I went to Madcap and had an amazing time. This was my first dining at a restaurant with a Michelin Star and my expectations were met. I loved the close and intimate dining area and the way we were presented with the dishes. All the waiters were kind and professional, answered any questions we had about the dishes and described each dish with much detail. The menu was delicious, fish forward but with the different ways it was prepared and the vast variety of types of fish; it did not feel at all like we were getting an over amount of fish and the same thing over and over again. We decided to add the supplemental course that was California queen caviar, with crème fraîche, macadamia mousse on a cardamom cake. The caviar and the crème fraîche was delicious but, the cardamom cake did over powered the caviar. My favorites were the ayu fish with pickled cucumbers, ice plant, smoked trout roe and haricot verts and the dry aged flannery rib eye, pesto, nectarines and banyuls reduction. I enjoyed that every dish and loved how delicious and different every bite was.

I came here for a birthday dinner and had a great experience. We were seated promptly and the waiters were super professional and explained each dish well. The interior of the restaurant is also very cozy and friendly despite this being an upscale place. My favorite dishes were the black cod and jidori egg while my boyfriend really liked the ribeye. I didn't think anything was standout amazing, but the freshness of the ingredients paired with solid flavors make this place worth going to. Also, look at the food presentation! Wow.

We love to try out fine dining restaurants whenever we celebrate birthdays and since this is our 10th yr anniversary, we decided to go to a Michelin star restaurant. We live in RP so we chose to go closer and found out that MadCap is in San Anselmo. Its 11-course tasting menu! Food is amazing! My favorites are the honey nut squash tortellini, the slow cooked egg and the fish dishes. Service is also amazing but I put 4 stars because I feel like the staff esp in Michelin restaurants can be more a bit enthusiastic about the food and how they can describe it to the guests. Sometimes, having to mention their personal favorite and their knowledge about the food make the guests enticed and excited about what they will eat. The ambiance is warm and cozy but we were seated beside a group of men who were a bit louder so me and my husband, we couldn't really hear each other well. There were more seats for 2 people in a little corner were other couples were and I wished we could have sat there. Its no biggie but I think its good for people to know so they can request it next time. Desserts are amazing as well! I probably will go back to try their next tasting menus in the future.

This is one of the best places if not the best place to eat in Marin. It's one of those places you come for special occasions. I've been here twice already and can't wait to find another time to visit. Every dish was delicious, creative and very tasty. We are lucky in Marin to have a Michelin rated restaurant like Madcap here!

I don't always have a car, but when I do, I like to use it (to go places I wouldn't otherwise go.) I booked Madcap because it was a Michelin star restaurant in the North Bay and I wanted to explore! It was easy to get a reservation a week or two in advance. It was hard to do the week of. Last-minute, I had to change my time to an earlier one so I called and they were very accommodating. Madcap is located on a busy street but they have a free parking lot. When we walked in around 5:15pm, it seemed like the staff were all gathered around each other talking waiting for customers to arrive. We were the first customers there and it slowly and surely filled up with girlfriends and couples. Service was very good and my boyfriend got the wine pairing and I sampled some. One sake came with the pairing as well. We enjoyed some courses more than others--standouts included - Shrimp hasami, tempura and satay - Jidori egg slow cooked topped with toma cheese, black truffle - Caramelized sunchoke tortelloni, thyme jus and broccolini - Seared stonington sea scallop topped with pork belly, trumpet mushroom puree and trumpet mushrooms - Seared Sonoma duck breast, cauliflower puree and purple cauliflower, carrot curry Everything was fresh. There were some unique dishes and some risks were taken--some paid off, but some didn't. There's only 1 bathroom. I like the dark decor. It was good and special but I feel like we've enjoyed other similar meals closer to home in SF.

Great dining experience. Went here for an anniversary dinner. Shared the wine pairing. Presentation was beautiful for the food. Food tasted great. Would come back again.

My friends and I dined here to celebrate Galentine's Day. Our reservation was at 5:15 pm. At first, we thought they were still closed due to the large curtain by the entrance and dark/dim decor and lighting. However, once we passed the curtains and saw the staff, we were directed to our table quickly. There was an 8-course Valentine's prix fixe menu. I could not eat raw fish or meat, and the staff clarified my dietary restrictions before serving the food, which I greatly appreciated. All the dishes were delicious, but our favorite was the dry-aged flannery ribeye steak. It had a beautiful crust and was perfect medium rare. It was so earthy, and the meat was tender. I could go back here just for their ribeyes. Overall, my friends and I enjoyed our visit to Madcap. Although we spent almost three hours here, it didn't feel that long. The staff was great and friendly throughout our visit.

Gonna keep it short and sweet; Best meal I've ever had in my life. Wine pairing was perfect. Service was fantastic. Add the caviar bump!

We have been wanted to try here for a very long time and finally made it to celebrate my sister and aunt birthday. It's a beautiful quaint place with vibrant atmosphere. My family truly loved the experience but I just eaten at 7 Adams the night before and the menu was so similar mad ethe starch contrast of not hitting the mark a bit more obvious. The service was great food was good if you have nothing else to compare it to. Sadly it didn't cut it for an 5 stars exceptional meal, I know my family who live near by will come back but with SF offering of food choices it will be harder for me to say I would want to come back again. Just a bit lack of luster in flavor I gave it a try though and truly appreciate the warm service and the hospitality that the staff offered.

A good restaurant with a variety of dishes. None were bad, but none were good enough that I distinctly remember them. A fun way to spend a few hours, fair value for the price, but for a restaurant of this caliber, I'd love to have something memorable.

My husband and I went for our anniversary. This was probably the best meal I've had in my life. The staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. Thank you all for an amazing experience!

A perfect evening at Madcap! From start to finish, Chef Ron Siegel and the entire staff delighted us with an incredible 11 course tasting menu and impeccable service. So lucky to have this spot as our neighborhood gem!!

Kept trying to push us towards a "fun tasting menu" which I believe was their way of trying to get old food out of their kitchen. Food quality was not good. Not fresh, steak looked like they pieces together scraps from a few different cuts. Frites tasted re-heated. Ambiance -- there were piles of boxes in the corner, place seemed dusty. We also brought a friend in for a birthday and we were one of two parties dining on a Saturday night. There is a good variety of food with the stars I think being their escargot (the garlic butter being the best). Lots of little touches of snail decor around the restaurant is really cute. I've had their ahi Niçoise salad and it is excellent. The potatoes and ahi were a surprisingly good combo for me. Oysters are a refreshing appetizer but I recommend the frog legs (tastes almost like a very lightly fried thinner chicken wing). I often paired it with a side of mushrooms. My family has gotten a variety of their menu. Onion soup is good and ahi tartare is great to share and munch. Warmed baguette bread and butter are always available. They have such good appetizers I think they even beat out the entrees. But I can say their steak and poulet/chicken frites are not bad too. I'm very glad they can do substitutions for the frites with roasted vegetables and got my poulet with green beans instead which still were a good pairing for the meat. Desserts are great too to share and finish your meal. Creme brûlée is standard in a lot of places and theirs hits the mark but I love Augie's Crepe Suzette more! A tangy orange based crepe topped with vanilla ice cream with bits of crispy orange bits throughout. I hope I come back again to try more dishes. A lovely spot in downtown. As a huge fan of French cuisine, I'd been following RÊVE for years and decided to book a table for the graduation dinner. I made a reservation about three months in advance just to be safe, since the restaurant only has about eight indoor tables. The restaurant was tucked away in a nondescript strip mall, but upon entering through the side gate, I felt like I was stepping into a Parisian neighborhood bistro. Our friendly waitress walked us through the menu and seasonal specials and even pointed out the can't-miss dishes. Thank goodness we followed her advice - the frites were among the best I've ever tasted! We debated ordering another cone of frites but decided to pace ourselves because we also ordered the gougères, RÊVE salad, and escargot to share. Additionally, we received complimentary fresh baguette and butter. For my main dish, I decided to try the quenelle, which can be described as a soft dumpling made from seafood purée that resembles a velvety soufflé. Every bite had a rich seafood flavor that, even now, I can't stop thinking about. Even though we were quite full after dinner, we were tempted by the dessert menu and decided to split the chocolate mousse and French opera cake. Both desserts were exquisite - they were small portions but packed a lot of richness without being overly sweet. Our dinner was made extra special by the restaurant staff, who remembered that we were celebrating a graduation and signed a card for us. From the team going above and beyond to the excellent meal, this was one of the best meals I've had this year. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
