Well anything Ron and his lovely wife have created is top notch . I used to work at the Ritz Carlton when he came on board to run the dining room.. I've been to many of the places he's created his magic and wonderful touches on his ravioli small plates and I feel so welcome coming alone and sitting at the small counter. Of course it was divine. Of course it was delightful! After several months of looking at their menu online, the stars finally aligned for us to come dine and it was just as delicious as expected. The halibut with butter poached lobster was excellent, the ribeye as well and the local squid with uni was a standout. The service was smooth and polished. Absolutely fantastic meal. The miso-lobster shot was ethereal, like a creamy milkshake that stays with you. The Mt. Lassen trout had a beautifully rich and meaty texture and the skin was rich, like cracklins. The tasting menu is a tour de force. With Ron at the helm, you're in for a treat. (Like he's my buddy calling him that-I've followed him for years so I'm taking liberties :)Such credentials and a storied resume, his food is interesting and inspiring. I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said a hundred times. If I went again, I'd opt for the chefs tasting menu. It's clear that that is where he'd light you up. Let him do whatever he wants and you'll surely have a less curated more exciting and interesting experience. We didn't do that. Should have. The presentations are pieces of art, but you're palate isn't peaked by what you see. Your mind is curious but it stops there. Then you taste the filet or the avocado rolls or the velvety corn soup and marvel. Bit of a disconnect but each bite is superb. It's a neighborhood place but not. Can't hang out there at the bar it's too small so it's a destination place but doesn't have the omg how special this place is feel. Yet. New Year's Eve was a prize fixe menu that did not disappoint. Friendly staff in a cozy environment with creative combinations were on offer. All were presented with a touch of Asian that made it even more interesting. The sauces were some of the best I've ever had, many based on Winter citrus and light on the dairy. Whether it's filet on black truffle risotto, Mt Lassen trout, or almond cake with silky ice cream, you won't be disappointed. How many ways can I say wonderful? I have been a fan of Ron Siegel's since Charles Nob Hill and have followed him from Masa, to The Ritz Carlton to Rancho Nicasio. He is one of the best chefs in the bay area if not the country. We are fortunate that he opened this gem in an intimate space in San Anselmo. A friend and I had the tasting menu and as each dish came out it became our favorite. The redo of the space is excellent, the art is interesting, the dinner ware has an organic sensibility, it feels comfortable. Our server was helpful and he was truly excited about working with Ron. The corn soup with toasted pine nuts was superb, the duck was wonderful, even though I am not a big duck fan, this was something special. We shared a big beautiful bottle of Darioush Cab which was excellent. The tasting menu was in the $80 range which is very reasonable for the caliber of food and way less than most prix fixe menus in the city and wine country. We have had three incredibly special celebrations at Madcap. We are so grateful to have such an exceptional restaurant so close to us. We chose the tasting menu each time ... each course was a perfection. The service was excellent. We left each time feeling like we could not have asked for a more perfect place to celebrate. Our third dinner was in the outdoor dining area. We were blessed with perfect weather, but layers would have addressed any variation with the weather. My boyfriend and I went there tonight and had the most delicious meal that we've had in a long time. We started with a light and complex green salad with pistachio crumble. So fresh and rich. And then a rabbit tortellini with combu and a Parmesan cream, omg. And the the most flavorful and tender seared scallops on a ginger and carrot purée. I could eat this every day and be so happy. And we finished with the tiniest strawberry cake with strawberry sorbet that tasted like the freshest summer strawberries. So delicious!!! We will be back for sure. Food was good but we did not feel it lived up to the hype. Good service some of the same people from Lincoln Park who were good.

Service was excellent. Our water and wine glasses were always taken care of. The bread that they serve is delicious. We had a few baskets of it! We did the tasting menu. They were able to accommodate half the party being vegetarian and half regular which was really nice. We got about 8 small courses. The portions are really small but it ended up being plenty of food. I think we had: a clam miso shot, a little fried sardine/asparagus with a sauce, chilled asparagus soup, uni panna cotta, salmon or trout, Makeral with strawberries, yuzu gel, rice crackers and soy salt, rabbit tortelloni/white corn ravioli, a small piece of rib eye/halibut with lobster and dessert. Overall everything was really good. I wish we knew what we were getting ahead of time and how many courses. read more
