I have lived on Bee ridge and cattlemen my whole life and just this year began going to Madfish. I guess I always thought it was an all seafood restaurant which I'm not a fan of. But I was pleasantly surprised by the wide array of non seafood options. My favorite dishes are the jerk chicken wings, the Caesar salad (best Caesar dressing in town) and they specially make the chicken Marsala for me. Their Marsala sauce is amazing, it is so creamy and light. Everything is so fresh as well. Tonight I came in after the gym looking for a quick, not so heavy meal. I ordered the voodoo chicken with blue cheese sauce and spinach off of the summer menu and it is the best thing I've ever had!! I hope they keep this item always!!!! read more

Four of us ate there Saturday night, we had a reservation, so we walked into the restaurant and were seated right away. The food was tasty, I had the Chilean Sea Bass for $34. I liked the taste and quality of my fish, however, the portion was very small. I bet I had 4 or 5 bites of fish and then it was gone. We called in a carry out order this afternoon.... the service was fine but the food was disappointing. I ordered a fried green tomato sandwich and the tomato wasn't cooked at all. It was dense and hard and there wasn't enough sauce on the sandwich to make up for it. Both my friends ordered omelettes, which looked lackluster and tasted the same. Our food was cold but that was to be expected given that we didn't eat it until 15 minutes after we picked it up. I also thought it was disappointing that they didn't include any condiments whatsoever or ask us if we wanted any at pick up. Overall, it seemed like our order was an afterthought. I travel a ton for work, and eat at plenty of chain restaurants. So when I can find a great, family owned place, I'm in!! Not only was the bartender super attentive and nice, but they also had a great selection. For dinner, I ordered the bang bang shrimp bowl. I didn't really want breaded shrimp, so they prepared it with sautéed shrimp instead. The shrimp was cooked perfectly! If I'm in the area again, I'll be back. read more

This is my favorite restaurant for their coco mac shrimp. Its large shrimp with a coating of macadamia nuts pieces and coconut.It is then deep fried. Overcooked side vegetables, main courses swimming in butter and nothing unique on the menu; so many great restaurants in the Sarasota area, why choose something only average? Madfish grill has a great gluten free menu, and they even accommodated my need to eliminate some tough, commonly used ingredients. The food was fresh, and truly delicious. It was yummy and gorgeously displayed (I should have taken a picture, but I don't post every meal or drink)! My husband doesn't have food limitations, and felt his meal was equally wonderful. Madfish Grill - Seafood Near Me - Sarasota, Florida

Had dinner here tonight and was disappointed. Their seafood is overpriced for the quality and size of serving. I paid $15. for Pacific whitefish and the serving was a child's size. It was a small amount of fish on lots of skin. Their wine list showed the cheapest glass of white wine at $6.29, but the waitress sold me a chardonnay house brand (mediocre in taste) for $2.75! It was not even listed on the menu. Waitress was attentive but needed more help with her tables. read more

My husband and I live in Venice and went here for my 40th Birthday last year. We had such a fantastic time that we've been driving up once a month ever since! This is THE best restaurant we've tried in the area, and you don't have to fight the downtown traffic. I LOVE this shrimp martinique pasta dish, it's really decadent, and my husband has really enjoyed this sirloin steak with a blue cheese and bacon sauce. Twice I've ordered off the nightly specials menu and enjoyed an exquisitely prepared meal. The biggest draw for me, besides the obvious cravings, is the service. We are consistantly treated like guests instead of costumers. The few times we have had a problem, it was resolved quickly and graciously. I would recommend Madfish to anyone who enjoys good food and good people. read more

Five of us went to dinner in December 2012. I, of course, ordered blackened grouper. Now let me tell you, reader. I'm a grouper expert. I can tell you that fully 75% of the restaurants where I order grouper serve something else. This was grouper. It was about a 1/2 pound or more slab of fish and inch and a half thick. Beautifully seasoned and cooked to a T. Moist and flakey. My nephew picked up the check so I have no idea how much it was. However, you would not go wrong at $45 for this meal (served with rice and steamed broccoli). My wife had the crab cake dinner and the one large cake was chock full of large chunks of real crab meat with only enough "filler" to bind it.. The others ordered pasta dishes which they loved. Service was lightning fast and the server was knowledgeable. When my party ordered a "Whisper" (ice cream dessert drink), they called the head bartender for directions and made it perfectly. This was our second of many many visits to this fine place. A bit pricey but well worth it. Use your Christmas Club account. read more

Upscale dining in a comfortable, casual atmosphere at a reasonable price - a rarity in Sarasota. No blaring music, just some soft unobtrusive background tunes. No pretentious waiters, just excellent, attentive service. The food is exemplary, fresh, imaginative, and just plain delicious. I won't list the offerings, you can easily go to the site and see the menu, and what we ate is probably not what you would order anyway. There is a small plate menu with numerious offerings and great variety, including appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts, even wine and a few mixed drinks, each priced at $6.33. You can order as many as you want. All six different dishes we ordered were superior. If you're plannign a trip to Sarasota and are overwhelmed with the restaurants offerings, we been to many and this one stands at the top of our list for quality and value. read more

We almost didn't try Madfish Grill because of a few really bad reviews but it was close to home and like humans, we have off days so we decided to try this place based on what we thought was a fantastic menu. We arrived at 2:30 PM and there were hardly any cars in the parking lot (another reason to be skeptical) but, hey, 2:30 PM is not a busy time to have lunch so we went forward into the restaurant. There were 3 tables filled inside and 1 table outside but the place looked comfy and clean. We both ordered off their lunch menu and we both ordered 2 different kinds of burgers. I personally have to report that the "Mombo Jumbo" burger was just about as good as a burger gets. I asked for it medium and it came out of the kitchen cooked perfectly. My companion ordered the Brendan Burger and he ordered it well done and again cooked to perfection. You might say, how hard is it to cook a good burger, well, let me tell you, not many restaurants cook a great burger. This was a great burger. The homemade chips were excellent served with a delicious dill sauce and also excellent coleslaw. I would not hesitate to try this place out. Ignore those 1 & 2-star reviews because they must have been there on an off day or maybe they just don't know good food when they have it. We've already decided to go back for dinner some day soon and try their fish. They had a great selection of both farm-raised and freshly caught fish. One last comment. Our server (Donna) could not have been nicer. She was very attentive and checked on us during our meal. We both loved this place. Thanks to the chef and thanks to Donna. My mother was in town wanting some seafood so we went to yelp for some advice. The reviews were very mixed and good seafood places are so hard to find here we decided to take a chance. Bad move trying Madfish. I'm still old school were if you charge a family of five 100 bucks for a meal everything should be perfect. The waitress seemed quite dismayed to see our two children. When my wife asked for Dr Pepper she simply said "We don't have that, we carry Coke products.". I had to drag out of her what Coke products include not being a Coke product expert you as you could guess. Otherwise she shaped up an ended up delivering satisfactory service. The food was a waste of money. My wife had sirloin tips added to her Caesar salad. They looked as of they had been boiled then put in the fridge because it was as cold as the lettuce. There was no carmelization like they had never touched the grill. My mom's crab cake was bland and disgusting. I had the coconut shrimp and it was about as good as something from Long John Silvers. Very disappointed and we will never spend our hard earned money there again. Sorry to the staff they tried to give good service, but the food was terrible for the price. read more

I've eaten here several times in the last couple of months and the place does not disappoint. I like the St Croix Salad which includes coconut and macadamia shrimp with greens in a very nice dressing. I've also had their seafood pie which I would highly recommend. We went to dinner at Madfish on Thursday, January 22. We were very sad as we had to end our vacation early.Our planned flight had been cancelled due to impending blizzard and we had to go home early. We were sad to be leaving our beloved Sarasota to go back to the frigid Northeast. I chose the coconut macadamia crusted chicken breast and my husband had the clams with linguine.We both had the clam chowder.This was the only dinner I had on vacation that I was able to finish the entire meal, it was so delicious. My husband said it was the best clam sauce he ever had (and he is sixty five years old and has has lot of clam chowder over the years). The chicken was perfectly done and juicy on the inside. The coffee was excellent. The clam chowder was absolutely wonderful and we live on Long Island, which is famous for its clam chowder.It was happy hour so the wine was reasonably priced. We had the chocolate bourbon pecan pie for dessert.Every course of the meal was excellent and each course was hot , which is much appreciated, and not as common as you would hope when you dine out. It was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience made even more so by the professional expertise of a wonderful female server, who was extremely pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu items. (she was originally from Buffalo, NY ) .You are lucky to have her! We asked her to tell the chefs how much we enjoyed) .It was a wonderful "last meal" in Sarasota, a memorable ending to a lovely vacation in Sarasota. We cannot wait to return.
