Just got takeout from Madison cafe for the first time and I have to say I am SO IMPRESSED and ecstatic to have found a Lebanese restaurant so close to home. My mother is Lebanese. I have been eating Lebanese food at home my whole life and preparing it myself (for special occasions, since it is generally very time consuming and laborious) since I was a teenager. I have been to many Lebanese restaurants locally, in other US cities and abroad. This Lebanese food is LEGIT. And not only that, it's all VERY well done. We ordered a mezza combo with falafel, baba ghanouj and makanek (sweet lamb sausage). The falafel was the best I've had locally ever (crispy, perfectly seasoned, moist inside), the baba ghannouj was smoky and lemony with not too much garlic, and the makanek was deeelicious. The kibbe balls were juicy and perfect, and the grape leaves (Warak eneb) tasted exactly like my mom's! (Aka, the best). The only complaint I have, and this is just really being picky (and It's a matter of personal preference) is the tabbouleh didn't have quite enough bulgar wheat and maybe was a tad oniony. But I'd still order it again! I can't wait to try other items from the menu! Possibly as soon as later this week. read more

This spot opened up just over a year and has become our "happy" place - it's a reasonable price for tasty food that is fresh, combined with good service. It's casual and easy, without having to resort to diner food. Despite the fact that it doesn't specifically cater to kids, it still made quite an impression with my younger daughter, who was only 3 when it opened, and now she points it out every time we pass by it on her way to preschool. Their hummus alone is a standout and I like to take home an extra container to nosh on for snacks. I am also a fan of the shish kabob platter - it's filet mignon steak which comes with rice, grilled vegetables and dollop of a garlic sauce that really packs a punch. I seem to recall a yogurt sauce I could order on the side that took it to the next level, but I didn't see that on the menu our last time, so I could be wrong. This has been my favorite dish from Day 1; I really should be more adventurous with so many things on the menu that sound delicious, but this had me at hello. The kids' menu and burgers is more than sufficient to cover younger palates, but if that doesn't work, the crepe menu is pretty outstanding and sure to make kids happy, as is the fresh lemonade they offer. All in all, this is a welcome addition to the area - my only caveat is they don't deliver! read more

Finally I found the place with the real taste of Lebanese food :) One day, a friend called me saying he want to show me a discovery, and want me to taste some shawarma. So he took me there, and since, I am always there. There is nothing from the outside or the Inside that tell you about the Lebanese food in the menu, actually menu is Lebanese American, but I really liked the place, plus they have My first time I ordered shawarma & falafel, and from the first bite I was able to feel the authentic taste. I am so glad we found this place. And since then, I tried all their menu, and nothing there I can complain about. Will keep going there for sure. Garlic Garlic Garlic Had lunch first time and order chicken kebab sandwich. Chicken was bland but pita was filled with grilled garlic and onions. It was basically inedible. The waiter asked how was the sandwich and I said not very good, too garlicky. His response was that he was not surprised! The chef loves garlic too much. Living in Jersey City, I'm no stranger to the Mediterranean food restaurants in JC, Hoboken, Edgewater, and NYC. Working in Bergen County, I'd never think to look for a Mediterranean restaurant while on a break from work... I'd typically just wait til I get back to my area. Boy, am I glad I took my boss' suggestion to come here.. Upon opening the doors, I was greeted by a woman with a warm smile.. and was totally not expecting such a huge space. She let me choose where I wanted to sit...I like that! My server came over and he was super nice. He gave me some time to look over the menu and I ended up ordering the hummus to start and the shwarma sandwich as my meal. Before I knew it, he returned with a sampler platter of chips, green olives, and this delicious garlic mixture that he claimed to love and put on everything. Tried it and loved it...and put it on everything as well! The hummus was delicious delicious! Had a nice garlic flavor...did I mention I love garlic?! My shawarma sandwich came out and was outstanding as well! It was pretty big, super meaty, and not so pita-y!! Great flavor! God, I really do love garlic. Forgot to mention, I was dining alone. My server was very attentive, and wasn't creepy at all. I feel like it's sometimes difficult to find that balance, but he did a great job. All in all, I had all wonderful meal! Just fantastic. All homemade Mediterranean food. The owners Diana and Charles are Lebanese. All the food is from their family recipes. We started with the Mezza Platter, Baba Ghannouj, and Hummus. You are served lovely breads with it, not the puffy tasteless pita bread you get in other restaurants. The labne was the best ever. They grill their eggplant by hand for their baba ghannouj. Awesome. Our entrees were The Madison Mixed Grill and the Lamb Kafta Kabab. You can taste the homemade love in all the dishes. It's casual and BYOB. We went to the Madison Cafe & Grill on a Friday evening, and were greeted with some very friendly and helpful staff. The menu is very impressive - a lot of Mediterranean classics and some good old American Fare as well. We chose from the salad selection, which was outstanding - an avocado salmon salad with red onion, walnuts, blue cheese and grilled salmon that was delicious. My Dad had a felafel sandwich with sweet potato fries. The waiter recommended we have the sweet potato fries with honey mustard dip in lieu of the usual ketchup. We did and it was great. Something I will keep in mind at home! My sister had the grilled salmon platter that came with a really nice rice and sautéed red bell pepper which was delicious. The presentation was very nice too. To start out they brought us some nice green olives with pita chips and a divine dip - not sure if it was made with greek yogurt or sour cream or both but that held us over till our meal came. To finish we had an Exotic Bomba - a mango, passion fruit and raspberry sorbet covered in white chocolate. Their were so many good deserts I will have to go back and try them all, next on my list will be the Copa Pistachio - a custard gelato swirled together with chocolate and pistachio gelato topped with praline pistachios. The Madison Cafe & Grill is exceptional in many ways - the top three are service, selection and value. The quality of food is fantastic for the price. Just had dinner here for the first time. Food was good. The service literally sucked! It was not busy just 2 tables occupied. The table next to us had left and the dirty cups just sat there. The waiter was just sitting indoors not even checking on the customers seeing if we need anything. He was inside on his phone. I had to go to the door and say hello and he asked if I needed anything. I said yes we have been done eating and need our check. Too bad customer service sucked. They need to train people better for there establishment. But the food was good read more

I ordered take-out for my son and myself last night...2 falafel sandwiches with fries. The person who took the order on the phone and those who greeted me when I picked it up were friendly and welcoming. And the food itself is delicious. Great falafel sandwiches depend on balance...the thickness of the pita, the amount of each ingredient, the amount of tahini. These guys have it perfected. And the addition of mint is a real treat. Food was delicious! Had grilled branzino ($24) and chicken kabob platter w rice and grilled veggies ($14). Both were excellent!!! Started with a combo appetizer of dips - yum!! Hummus and olives and a yogurt dip! Kids had chicken tenders and fries- nice portion. Food was great! Met the owner who was so nice and took our suggestions to heart immediately (dim the lights!! And turn the large screen tv off during weekend dining hours). Made for a much warmer atmosphere! Dessert was crepes w Nutella and Ice cream! Wowza! Outstanding food. If they keep the lights dimmed at night and keep the TV off on the weekend dining hours we will come back often! They have a bfast and lunch which looks great too! And it's BYOB! Visited the Madison Cafe for the first time this past Saturday with my wife and picky 7 year-old daughter. I had the pancakes, which were good...my daughter loved her chocolate chip pancakes, however my wife's sajuk sausage, spinache and feta omelette was the highlight. Just went back today with my parents and sister and got the sajuk omelette...delicious! Coffee is very good and Dad got a Boost smoothie, which actually was quite delicious despite its green appearance. Staff is VERY friendly and attentive. Great job so far, we will be back! TERRIBLE SERVICE Food is decent but service is always SO SLOW. We were the only table occupied and still sat there for 15 minutes after finishing our meal before the waiter came over. Even then he didn't come to clear our plates or ask if we wanted dessert. The staff needs to be trained properly. I've been in there several times and every time I feel ignored by the wait staff. Terrific place that I wish more people knew about! Come on people - it's in the Madison strip mall next to Sunrise Homes in Cresskill. We went for breakfast and my friend goes there for Lunch , dinner because the Lebanese , burgers , etc so good. I was so pleasantly surprised at the variety of different items on menu. Come here for eggs and waffles and crepes...... very lovely service and nice place and reasonable price. The 3 of us shared delish , plentiful Greek Omelette and fruit waffles. Came for dinner after kids school concert. It was 8:30 and they close at 9. Waiter acted like we were bothering him. Huffed and puffed after every request. We ordered shish kebab platter which was good, but the shawarma platter was the most disgusting thing. Dried up strips of beef. Funny thing is we asked which meat would be the juiciest and he suggested shawarma. We promised kids they could get dessert, so we ordered chocolate ice cream 15, minutes later "I'm sorry the ice cream melted so I tried to freeze it again". WHAT?!? Bad food, bad service. First off I was welcomed with a warm friendly hello as I entered the door. I ordered the tabouli salad- it was so fresh.
