We try to do our bit to support local businesses, especially during this pandemic. So, we ordered some food tonight. Found a roach. I wouldn't have posted had it been something minor. But, a ROACH in food is unacceptable. I called the restaurant, and to be fair, the owner was quite apologetic. The place was empty in the morning when I reached just 5 mins after the place opened. They were playing loud prayers I guess on TV which was surely not you'd want in a quite morning. I ordered Rasam idli and coffee. It was interesting to find out they didn't serve it like filter coffee. Instead they just served it in a paper cup, which was oddly surprising. The Rasam idli initially tasted very salty, but when I ate Rasam with idli, it tasted ok. So I guess they might not have salt in idli, but instead more in Rasam. Anyway, Rasam idli tasted awesome and was served quite quickly. I believe, Rasam idli is going to be my go to breakfast in Bay Area. read more

Went here last week on Friday night only to experience poor food, slow service and a horrible experience overall. We ordered rava dosa which I felt was not properly cooked. The uttappam also felt barely cooked. They said there was masala Vada available that day, but what came out seemed like microwaved tripe from the previous day. We threw it out despite the food arriving after 30 minutes. They just had two ppl (perhaps students) manning the entire restaurant and doing cooking, cleaning, waiting, etc. terrible at multiple levels. The location is also next to a shady 7-11 alley with hard to read signs. Only pros were their Sambhar and the new look of the place with ample space and good cutlery. But I guess when the food and service are so poor, of what use is the new cutlery? AVOID and drive opposite to Madurai Idli Kadai for better food atleast. read more

Went here as I was craving some South Indian food and heard this place was pretty good. Went to the stop and saw that this is a pretty small hole in the wall place with quite a lot of hustle bustle going on. We ended up ordering: *paneer dosa - the dosa portion was amazing but the paneer part was not so good as the paneer did not have much seasoning on it. However the dosa and the chutneys were really yummy * upma and vada combo- I basically came here to eat upma and I must say I was not disappointed! So my wife wanted Indian breakfast on a saturday morning and I wanted to try a new place and this place showed up on my search....place looked clean...reviews looked good..food looked appetizing...so we ended up going here.. 4 stars over all...5 for the taste...3 for the service.. The food was great but everything came to our table warm and not hot...It would kick it to the next level if the food was all hot. We got masala dosa, rava dosa, idli vada combo, puri, sambar idli...The mark of a great south indian place is good sambar and this place had one of the best I have tasted yet..I am a snob when it comes to sambar and this stuff is good.. Notes about the place itself...I can never understand why someone would just prop a restaurant door open and not turn on the AC...It was hot for the most part we were there untill the lady at the front desk went to close the door and they turned on the AC. There was only one person serving everyone and I believe he cannot walk any slower than he did..this could be part of the reason the food is warm and not hot...The soap dispenser in the restroom was broken and took effort to get some soap..the highchair had something sticky in it...I know its a highchair and kids tend to drop stuff but the staff should be cleaning them after each use.. But all that kept aside, I would still vote this place as one the very good south indian breakfast places to go to... read more

Finding cheap Indian food has become difficult (just like cheap Mexican, which has reached unicorn status!), but we're always hoping... A few weeks ago, we were lamenting the passing of good, cheap Indian food, and got the urge for some dosas. Ok, lower priced dosas... A search was initiated, and we came up with this spot. It was getting late, so I rushed over, only to be told that they were out of paneer. What!? That's like a Mexican place running out of queso! I didn't have my phone with me, so I had to wing it. A cheese dosa is close, right? Haha! I opted for the onion masala dosa for myself. The place is clean, and the staff is great. Had to wait a bit, as there were a lot of door dashers waiting. The good thing was that they had a good Indian movie playing. Ok, good is relative... maybe amusing would be better a better word, the acting was awful! When I got home we discovered that the cheese dosa had about 1/4 cup of finely shredded cheddar on it, nothing else. The kid was annoyed to say the least because she once got a paneer dosa elsewhere that had about the same amount of paneer on it, literally almost none! Fortunately, mine was full of onion/potatoey goodness, so we split them. Mine was excellent, hers was edible, but what can you say about such a basic item. We disagreed on the chutneys/sambar- I thought they were great, she didn't like the coconut in particular because it was really watery. I thought the flavor was great; very coconutty! read more

The food was good - not great; Sambar was different from other restaurants - so I give them brownie points for that. Chutneys though watery was tasty. They do skimp on the sides - ordered Poori with kurma - for 2 Pooris they gave me Aloo and kurma - both together would have been sufficient for just one poori. I give them 3 stars because I ordered food to go and the lady told me it will be ready in 15 minutes; I go there after 20 minutes and then she says let me get it ready for you and makes me wait for another 20 minutes. Absolutely no concern for other people's time. It wasn't like they were super busy - she simply did not even bother getting the food ready!! She did this to 3 customers as I was waiting for my order. Food is decent, but the manager guy talks horrible and has a very bad attitude. He doesn't know how to treat customers with respect. The guy who works inside the kitchen sometimes comes to the counter and takes orders, and he behaves more rude than the owner. I wonder what he really thinks about himself! LMAO! If you want to have good vibes, then AVOID this place. There are lot other places where there is enough respect for customers. Other South Indian breakfast places tend to get pretty crowded, this one does too, but they are big, have more space, somehow are quicker. I really wish I could them no star. I came for a to go of mini idlis when I came to the restaurant. The idols they gave me were super cold, I asked them why it's cold. They said we make it & keep it. They microwave for customers at the restaurant. I'm like - whattttt??? Pathetic ...they are not clean & give you stale food. Just be aware if you are getting your kids here, hygiene is not maintained, avoid this place by all means. I love this place. Great south Indian food. Their sambhar is just out of this world. Reminds me of my mom's sambhar. Ordered idly sambhar, onion rava dosa and Kara masala dosa and Gobi Manchurian for the table . The Gobi was so so, maybe best to stick to southern delicacies at this place. But oooohhhheemmmgeee the rest are just awesome. Definitely gonna make it a weekend regular go to. read more

I don't usually write reviews but today after going to this place I felt like I should. We have been seeing this place for quite a few months now but usually it is not very crowded so we never try it but today we decided to give it a try and I am so happy we did! This place is cheaper, bigger and way less crowded than Madurai Idly Kadai and the food was equally as tasty. We ordered Sambar vada, Podi masala dosa, Mysore masala dosa and 2 Filter coffees. Both the dosas were delicious...so light and crispy, the masala very tasty and the right amount of spice. Will definitely be ordering them again. The sambar vada was also good but would have been better if the vada was a bit more crispy. We asked for the coffee to be strong and they gave us extra decoction which was a nice touch. Overall definitely worth a try and I will surely be going back for the Podi masala dosa!!!! read more

This place is a hidden gem. Having brought up with idly as the breakfast all through my life, I know how idlys are supposed to be made. They serve the best idlys in the entire bay area without any doubt. Undoubtedly, their sambar and mint chutney is also the best in town. They are overtaking Madurai Idly Kadai overall, but there a few things they can do, to improve their business. 1) They take too much time to prepare and deliver. It is not a big deal, as long as they maintain their quality. They can hire more employees to make it fast. 2) The guys at the counter are usually good, especially the long hair guy and the lady are nice. But, there is a Tamil speaking lady (I think the owner), who is angry faced all the time. It definitely adds value to the business by having a welcome face to the customer. 3) They dosas are over crisp. Still Madurai idly Kadai makes the best dosas. Dosas shouldn't be too crisp, that it taste bitter. It should be slightly soggy to make the best tasting dosas. Please copy what "Madurai Idly Kadai" makes. With your Sambar, it will be the best dosa in town. 4) It was very hard to find your place. The first time I came here, I was going round and round in circles and never could find the place. Please have a big name board that is lit during the Night time. Again, copy "Madurai Idly Kadai". 5) Even though, they are at a prime location, because of less overall activity in that particular crossing, they are not noticed by many. I strongly suggest them to buy a shop in the same complex as Madurai Idly Kadai and run their business there. But, be prepared for excessive increase in business, by hiring more people. read more
