During my visit to big bear I was craving some good pizza. I came to Maggio's and it was amazing. The crust on the pizza was a little crunchy and had a crisp to it that made it that much more amazing. Slices are big We also ordered a meatball sandwich and the bread was made there. Meatballs were flavorful and it was topped with a good layer of cheese. Service was great the ladies were very kind and welcoming and the young man was attentive My favorite part of the whole place was the music choice. AVOID. Search for another pizza place close by, don't come here. I give it one star because the meatball sub is ok, the rest of the food we had here was a waste of money. Some of it we just threw in the trash. I'll go over the 4 items we ordered. The chicken wings, not good. We ordered them dry with sauce on the side. They came covered in a gross red sauce. The wings themselves were slimy and fatty. When you order dry, deep fried wings you expect crispy wings. No thank you. Next, we had the meatball sub. The meatballs tasted like they came out of your local grocery store freezer. The sauce was watery and flavorless, seemed like it came straight out of a can of diced tomato sauce. We think they threw the ingredients into the put and then melted the cheese. The bread itself wasn't toasted, so the inside of the sandwich was soggy, it fell apart. The cheese helped to make it edible, we finished it with forks and dirty hands, as the sandwich exploded. Next we had the original house specialty pizza. Once again, a failure. We were happy to see a pizza with so many veggies and meat that we like. The crust was way too thick. I'm not sure if it's made in house or from a food service company. Either way it was thick and chewy like cardboard. Also, where's the cheese. We thought this pizza would be loaded, it was not. There were a good amount of toppings, but barely any cheese. We also threw this in the trash. Lastly, the chicken Parmesan. They should take this off of the menu, or maybe do a better job. Imagine that you pull an oversized chicken breast from the freezer for dinner and defrost it. You'll then want to cut it in half to work with it. They took an oversized chicken breast, baked it and that's it. They then put it in a to go container, right next to extremely overcooked pasta noodles with the same horrible tomato sauce that they use on the meatball sub. The cheese did its best to help cover the horrible chicken. I took a few bites and this dish also ended up in the trash. Neither of us liked it. The chicken was huge, dry and we had to chew it like there was no tomorrow before swallowing it, and needing water to wash it down. Let me be clear, the chicken has no breading, the breast was dry on the thick part of chicken and the small part of the chicken was even worse. Check the menu and see how much money we wasted. I don't mind paying too dollar for food. But this was a shame all around. We will never be back. Buyer beware. read more

We came in around 3 p.m. We wanted to sit in, but they told us that there was a long wait and we should get a take out. It took one hour and 20 minutes to get the Pizza. When i mentioned it to the employee that i was told that i was told that the pizza was going to be ready in 45 munutes. She said that they were busy and she was rude about it. The Pizza was okay, but was not a big deal. You could get a similar pizza somewhere else much faster and better customer service. Definitely not coming back. read more

While visiting Big Bear, we had a craving for pizza. Maggio's Pizza was recommended to us as having a great pizza. We ordered two XL pizzas for pick-up, which was the perfect amount for our party. Pizza was tasty, but nothing extraordinary like we were told. I don't know if you can request different crust pizzas, as it was not suggested to us. The crust we had, again tasty, but extremely thin. It was very difficult to grab a slice, as all the topping would fall off. Even when trying to fold the pizza in half to stiffen the crust up a bit, the topping would still fall off. We had to slide the pizza slices onto our plates and slide to the edge of the plate to eat. We did not eat at the restaurant since it was a pick-up, but I found the ambience of the location to be very nice and did have a good amount of clientele there eating. I may try it again when in the area, but most likely try another pizza location first. read more

I should've asked for a side of marinara to help with the dry pizza. My fiancee and I didn't even bother finishing it to not waste the stomach space on it. O M G!!! The cheese pull on their pizza is Turtle's in a half-shell turtle power style!! A MUST pizza place to try when visiting Big Bear Cheese sticks were cheesy and calamari was just okay. It's the ring-style calamari with lots of breading. I prefer the lighter style of breading. The Marinara sauce was delicious and robust. At the table, there is plenty of parmesan and red pepper flakes to top your pizza with. Pizza came out fairly quickly since we were the 1st ones there. Clean atmosphere including the restrooms. It's very unfortunate to see the staff standing around, especially in the area where salads are prepared. I've been here for 25 minutes and watched as they repeatedly touched their faces and even adjusted their clothing inappropriately--without washing their hands afterward. I have to clarify, I'm Sicilian, and grew up with great cooking (and cook pretty well myself). That said, I'm always going to be harsher on Italian joints. We had a beef dip, salad, spaghetti & Calzone. The size of the portions were impressive for the price. I was underwhelmed with the service. Friendly, definitely. I expected full serve, which isn't what this is. They seat you wherever you like, then you order at the counter. They bring it to you as it's ready, so don't expect to be served all at once. I was a bit peeves to be asked for a tip upon ordering. If I'm standing at a counter to order, I'm not tipping. As for the food. Salad and bruschetta were on point. My boy liked the beef dip, but the Au jus was closer to jello. The marinara on the spaghetti was quite good. Even better with the garlic bread. The calzone left me underwhelmed. Was supposed be sausage/pepperoni, but had one piece of pepperoni and so little cheese, I didn't get any until the final walk bites. Very thin breading as well. This place has never disappointed! My wife and I have been making this place a normal stop for over 30 years now. Today we returned for a quick BB getaway and we had to stop. We noticed the antipasto salad is now being made with the lettuce weeds so we asked if we could have only iceberg lettuce. At first the lady behind the counter said no because it comes in a mix and so she checked the lettuce and said that there was no way they could separate the salads. So we ordered our pizza and breadsticks. We sat down and then she came running out of the kitchen saying their chef was going to make a whole new salad for us. Amazing!!! Who does that??? I note " no tomatoes please" Guess what they put no effing sauce loooool like they took it so literal that not only did they not add the sun dried tomatoes the "A hole" chef decided no sauce either. Tipped twice just to have dry pizza. Cardboard dry I'm choking. This whole complex is just terrible with customer service. If you have eaten at Olive Garden, then the marinara sauce here is better at Maggios. We ordered chicken parmigiana and Italiano Calzone. Both were yummy, however the meatballs were so so, but they add lots of mozzarella. The chicken to me was better than the meatballs. My bf liked the calzone alot, so if you love "simpler" food for kids or not expecting a $30-40 dish then again this restaurant is perfect. Lots of room to seat large parties. This is pay first then the food is delivered to your table. Service was great, one of the servers asked if the music was too loud so she can lower the volume. Every time I come here I am super impressed. The staff is always really friendly from the start. It's a true family restaurant with a family environment. The food is amazing. If you're gluten-free, you won't be left out of the awesome food! The GF pizza and pasta tastes legit!! You won't feel like a secon-class citizen here! The biggest marker of great service is how they fix a mistake - in our case, we forgot the salad with our pick up order (cue the wife reminding yet again to ALWAYS check the order).
