i've had my laptop for over 5 years now. i've dropped it. i've spilled cocktails and coffee in…read moreit. i've exposed it to questionable online material many, many times. and still, it has been my hope to maintain a functional relationship with it. however, having had enough of my shenanigans about a year ago, it really started acting up. this was obviously really frustrating to me, being that my trusty friend and i had been through so much. suddenly, the tables turned and it began abusing me: losing files, crashing in the midst of great online conversation, seeminly dying for no reason. friends suggested perhaps i had developed a touch of stockholm syndrome with my relationship with it... sigh, perhaps so. which brings me to my actual review of On Time. i was referred to this hole-in-the-wall repair shop in Chinatown by a coworker. at first i was a bit leery because he didn't know the name of it and could only describe it by the little yellow sign on the right hand side. he said it was a great place for computer repair and generally very reasonably priced. no name, no phone number, no address was given to me at first. eventually, i got those things and went in to take my precious laptop for repair. although communicating with the staff was a little difficult at first, i left my computer and a few days later, i was called and notified that it was ready to be picked up. typically what happened next would get them one star... but the way they handled it is why they get four. you see, i got it back from them, and not even 2 days later, i was experiencing the same problems i had when i first took it in. i called them and told them about that, and without hesitation, they said to bring it back and that they would ensure it was properly repaired, with no additional cost. they kept it a few days longer than they did the first time, and while i felt a little uneasy about it, i was fine with it as long as it was fixed... and it certainly was. it has been working better for me since i got it back from them (the second time) than it had in years. the staff is friendly. it's an unassuming little establishment. the price for repair was great. and, supporting this small business felt rad. good job, On Time!

I dropped off my PC at 10 AM and he had it completely diagnosed and fixed by 3:30 PM - same day service when most shops would have kept it for days. But what really impressed me was how Garnik actually took the time to explain everything instead of just doing the work and handing it back. He didn't just slap on new thermal paste and call it done. He properly reapplied the paste, then noticed my fan configuration was all wrong and moved everything to the correct CPU pump headers and fan headers. He walked me through exactly what was causing the thermal problems and how he fixed them, then stress tested the whole system right in front of me so I could see it was running properly. Garnik was super knowledgeable, friendly, and got everything done way faster than I expected. It's honestly rare to find someone who knows their stuff this well and actually takes the time to make sure you understand what's going on with your build. This review is long overdue but I think of Vahan and Elen and the team so often and how they not…read moreonly saved my precious photos but were so kind, efficient and professional during my hard drive nightmare scenario... One week before xmas, I sat down to work and got a message and screen I'd never seen before - "no bootable devices found". I called my usual tech guys and they came over a few hours later but needed to take the drive to their shop. Of course, with the holidays, no one was working much and as much as I like my usual guys, I felt like I was getting the run-around and I wasn't getting any answers from them, they couldn't tell me what was wrong. I'm self-employed and do a ton of work over the holidays, so my anxiety and frustration increased hourly...I did get a new HD in the meantime, but I was very concerned about the data (and esp photos) on my failed HD. I found Five Star Data Recovery here on Yelp, I spoke to Elen and went to collect my failed HD from the other place and bring it to them. From the gate, I got updates every day or two and come to find out that it was the controller in my WD HD that had malfunctioned (Vahan is so wonderful in explaining the issues to a layperson!) and although there is a company that makes the little part to perform a "chip off" and therefore recover the data, there is not one yet for my make/model HD. However! As I still had my HD from previous to the one that failed, which had all of my pre-2020 photos on it (plus old docs, etc), Vahan was easily able to copy all of that over to a new external HD and I can't explain the relief and happiness that it brought me :-) I'm eager to come back when/if the little part for the chip off process becomes available for my failed HD, but in the meantime I'm just so happy to have my photos and eternally grateful to Vahan and team! Highly recommended. Crashed an internal hard drive that had significant data on it that I had,…read moreirresponsibly, not backed up to any other sources. The damage I did to the drive required Five Star's clean-room service, and they quoted a flat rate to me in advance. The effort of recovering the data ended up being very challenging and took longer than any of us expected, but at the end Five Star was able to recover over 99% of the files--and I'm happy to say, the 1% of files were not important to me, so the 99% they recovered covered everything I needed. Despite that significant extra work, they invoiced me only for the original quoted amount. I'm happy with the results but also the professionalism. When I first reached out to Five Star, they got back to me at the start of the next business day and, after answering a few follow-up questions, I had a quote and scheduled to drop off my drive the same day. Vahan and Elen were particularly helpful and professional the entire way through. It was really a pleasure to work with them and I can't recommend Five Star enough!
