My gold standard for banana pudding. I can't help comparing any other banana pudding I eat to Magnolia Bakery's. I think this is their signature item so if you have a sweet tooth and it's your first time, banana pudding is a must! If you want that photo of extra pudding on top (see attached photo), you have to ask for a large cup topped off with a small cup. read more

Another one of my NYC favorites in Chicago! I can't say enough good things about their banana pudding. I could eat an entire tub in one sitting. It's light, not super sweet, and oh so creamy. I also ordered some lattes for my friend and me, but I would definitely pass next time. I don't think coffee is what Magnolia Bakery is known for, so just come and get their banana pudding and maybe try some of their other desserts! Expect a long line, but it does go by relatively quickly. read more

Got the banana pudding because of how much people rave about it, but I may have overestimated how much I like banana flavor. I personally wish there was more vanilla wafer and less cream. The medium is a much better deal $/oz, so get a medium size to split with friends if you like banana :) read more

Tried Magnolia bakery for the first time and I got their classic banana pudding. It's really sweet and heavy for me. After a few bites it was enough, however, I used it for my overnight oats to cut some of the sweetness and it was amazing. Very good! read more

We arrived to Magnolia on a Saturday afternoon and walked right up to the counter but the cashier told us to walk past the counter to get in line even though there was no line. It was odd that she didn't just take our order. We ordered 2 banana puddings to go since that is what everyone recommends. As we were leaving I noticed the place was kind of a mess - overflowing trash cans, out of water, no spoons only forks. Not sure if they were just swamped earlier and didn't get around to restocking/cleaning up or if it's a lack of staff issue. Then to the banana pudding - it was good but not amazing. Maybe I had too high of expectations but I've had better banana puddings. Unfortunately it was just okay and not something I need to get again. read more

We were so excited to try out Magnolia Bakery after hearing how delicious it is for years. From the moment of walking in I was not impressed. The store was filthy. The staff behind the counter did not look happy. We asked someone behind the counter what his favorite thing was and his answer was he hadn't tried anything in the store. So so quality but horrible service! Making this review especially for owner otherwise wouldn't give it 2 sec of my time. The Asian guy at counter and the other guy serving are super rude and sarcastic. For them it's just a job for a season maybe but they are seriously affecting your business. Came here for one thing only. Their banana pudding. I bought it right before my flight back home. And I wasn't sure if I could bring it on the plane, so I googled it and sure enough it was one of the top searches due to its popularity. Unfortunately they only had a large left so of course I bought it. And I ate the whole thing before going through tsa. Do I have regret? None. It was amazing and the perfect dessert! I took some to bring home but ate it ... on the way home. It didn't last more than 10 minutes. Don't bother getting the small. You'll just inhale it before you can't even say banana. Soft, creamy, cakey, sweet. The cream, the banana, the wafer cookies. Get the banana pudding! You will not regret it. I am not a huge sweets person, I don't really care for cupcakes or cake, but I really love the banana pudding from here. I tried the salted caramel banana pudding a few months back but nothing beats the original in my opinion. It's light, fluffy, creamy, and has sliced bananas in it which is my favorite part. They have limited edition flavors as well, currently they have pumpkin spice banana pudding. They sometimes run out of the original banana pudding by the end of the day, so plan accordingly if you want to get some. read more

Terrible customer service. We ordered two cakes and called to change the date to an earlier day. The staff member who answered confirmed it. Fast forward to the day, we were told it was never changed and on top of that, their manager Amanda told us "it's not possible" that a mistake like this occurred. Amanda continually spoke over me, never apologized, and basically alluded to the fact that I made up this date change, cause "her staff would have changed it in the system if that were the case". For the price we were paying, with the way she was speaking to us, it was not worth and we cancelled our order. Please consider going somewhere your business would be appreciated. A very big shame. read more

Dropped by to get a snack of the Banana pudding. It was pretty good, a little sweeter than what I prefer though. I liked the texture however, it was soft and pretty fluffy. I liked how there were slices of bananas in it. The wait was pretty short and we were able to find a place inside the bakery to sit down and eat. read more

There are less menu items here than its counterpart locations in NYC, but I still like it because it has my favorite staples: Banana Bread Pudding and Hummingbird Cake. I recently also tried their Blueberry Cheesecake Bar and thought it was delicious as well. There is no seating inside, so grab all the sweets you want to-go and find a nearby hotel lobby to devour everything. read more

This is definitely a place you need to try! We got the chocolate pudding and chocolate cake and let me just say that it was so elegant and delicious. It's very hard to make basic things taste good but this bakery did. The worker was very pleasant and helpful. The shop felt like you were in Paris or somewhere fancy, and had a very nice ambiance. We also go the banana pudding and banana pudding cookie, which were not my favorite but only because I do not like banana. Definitely come here! read more

I went past this place and popped in on a whim to grab a banana pudding and a key lime cheesecake. Sadly, both missed the mark. The bananas in the pudding were weirdly chewy. The whole concoction tasted artificial and not freshly made. I've never had a rubbery banana before - it was incredibly off putting. The cheesecake was okay, but lacking in flavor. I've been going to this spot (in NY) since I saw them on Sex in the City, and I've loved them since. These days (in Chicago, HOME) I occasionally go for some of their banana pudding (which is saying a lot for me because I normally don't eat outside banana puddings). Low lit space that I'm thinking is trying to replicate an old sweet shoppe in NYC We shared a Carmel pecan cheesecake and regular brownie. I suspect they were shooting for a cake-like brownie. I'm from Detroit and this by far was better than any bakery I have had. Their baked goods are made from scratch with the best German chocolate cake i have had other mine. It tasted likes homemade German chocolate cake which NEVER happens with a store or bakery bought cake. I tasted mine and immediately went back in to get another piece for the road. Everything my family purchased that day said it was the best they ever had from the cheesecake to the double chocolate. They had wonderful customer service and the display made u want to try everything. I really wish they would bring one to Detroit ASAP! read more

I used to love coming here. Their pastries are always delicious. This place holds a lot of beautiful memories when I was dating my now husband. We always used to sit by a window and enjoy a hot cup of coffee. In the summers we get iced coffees. Unfortunately today was a huge disappointment Today hubby and I wanted to come after 5 years of not coming. Well I was super disappointed of how dirty the floors and table where. Got here on a Saturday around 1030am. Line wasn't very long, service was friendly. Unfortunately I was not able to try the original which was kind of insane they didn't have it available in a major city on Superbowl weekend/Valentine's weekend before the afternoon. However, the chocolate banana pudding was a pretty fantastic substitute hence the 4*. While it can seem expensive the individual medium packs a good amount in there. The cake pieces were so soft and the cream was delectably creamy. The chocolate pudding was phenomenal. Would love to try the original some day. read more

Ube lining was decent and smooth, just took some effort to scrape. However I expected the ube at the bottom of the cup to be mashed similarly and it was not. Boba was chewy on the outside but ripped apart easily in the center, almost firm.

I personally preferred the Ube coffee over the tea-based drink. The breakfast sandwiches, however, were the highlight of our visit. They were incredibly flavorful, and the tocino paired perfectly with the other ingredients, making for a delicious and satisfying meal. One thing that could improve the experience would be having a staff member outside providing estimated wait times. Without any updates, it was difficult for guests to know how long the line would take, especially since the restaurant becomes very busy and closes relatively early. From what I could see, the interior looked beautiful, modern, and very clean. Overall, despite the long wait, the food was well worth trying. If you plan to visit, I recommend arriving early or placing an online order to save time.

I heard about magnolia from a chef at work, she said the cupcakes were very good, especially the red velvet, which i love red velvet and had to see for myself. Now, i am a baker, i make cakes for a living, so when i get a chance i like to stop at local bakeries to try their product. I bought 4 cupcakes from here, and sat down to eat one, which was red velvet. The cake itself was great, i prefer very moist cakes, and this was not as moist as the red velvet recipe i make, but very close to as far as flavor a texture. Although i had cream cheese icing and it was way to sweet, sort of store bought taste, the icing didnt taste like natural cream cheese. They also had whipped cream iced, but i didnt try them, maybe they were less sweet.. It was a bit confusing at first, as to where to order, there seems to be different sections to order, but i was in LALA land admiring the look of the bakery, Very cute old fashion decor! The merchandise for sale was all so very cute, but super pricey, i couldnt believe it was $68.00 for one simple cake stand! Overrall i enjoyed my hot chocolate, cupcake was good--except for the icing.. I live in the suburbs so i probably wont be going there often, but love to stop into the little downtown bake shops for a little relaxation from all the walking. read more

During my last visit to Chicago, I made a stop at Magnolia Bakery, conveniently located in the Loop area near the Chicago Theatre in a lively area filled with shops, restaurants, and things to do--perfect for anyone visiting from out of town. Having previously visited a Magnolia Bakery in New York, I was excited to try this location and see if it lived up to the same standard. I went around 2 p.m. on a Tuesday, and to my surprise, there was no line--a rare and pleasant treat for a place this popular. I ordered their famous banana pudding along with an iced matcha latte. Both were as delicious as expected. The banana pudding was rich, creamy, and perfectly sweet, just as iconic as I remembered. The matcha latte was smooth and well-balanced--not too bitter, with a nice, earthy flavor. The inside of the bakery was spotless and welcoming, with a small seating area where you can relax and enjoy your treats. It's a cozy spot that offers a break from the downtown buzz. The staff was friendly and helpful, and I appreciated that they accepted credit cards without any additional fees--a small but thoughtful detail. All in all, this Magnolia Bakery location delivers the same charm and quality it's known for, and I'd absolutely return on my next trip to Chicago. read more

All I have to say is, try the Banana Pudding. If you have not tasted the banana pudding you should not be allowed to write a review for Magnolia. The banana pudding alone is worth a 5 star review. There is a reason why Mama Depandi from the TV show Giuliana & Bill had it delivered for her birthday party in LA. If you are ever trying to make someone's day, have a pint of banana pudding delivered to them from Magnolia Bakery and they will never forget it. This legendary banana pudding is delivered to our office weekly because of how addicting it is. The best part is whenever we want to surprise a client with some random sweetness the Manager Nikki uses WeDeliver to deliver cupcakes, banana pudding, cake or anything else for us in minutes. went here based upon the recommendation of the hotel concierge and tried their yellow cake with chocolate frosting-it was so dry and had my friend try it and she felt the same. So, I went to the counter and told the sales person about ti and she said to choose another one and I chose the pistachio one and instead of apologizing she asked me to pay 2 bucks which was the difference in the price of the dry cake and the new cake slice that she gave me. And, I told, her that I would pay it and she was so impatient that she sent another employee to my table to ask me to pay the difference. I would not recommend this place as there are so many other top of the notch desert places in Chicago(having great desserts and quality customer service) read more

Magnolia bakery is known for its Banana pudding. This is the only thing that you want to pick up and get away from the restaurant as soon as possible. The restaurant is touristy and a prime target for some pickpockets. So much so that they have recently put up notices in 3 or 4 places (Nov 2018) to be careful of your belongings. We had a bag stolen while we were eating pudding here in January 2018. It is such a shame that they aren't investing in video cameras and working with law enforcement to keep these unsavory elements out of this savory location. Between visits we also noticed that they have drastically reduced the number of tables. So there isn't a lot of place to really sit and enjoy a true cafe vibe. read more

Well, I went back after a bad vanilla cupcake experience. The general manager couldn't have been nicer to me after I complained a few days earlier. He really wanted to please and that is a plus in customer service in this day. I tried the key lime cheesecake and it was delicious, moist and flavorful with just the right amount of lime. Very very good. I also tried a red velvet cupcake and that was moist and flavorful but I didn't like the frosting, prefer cream cheese and this was not. Also had a sugar cinnamon muffin and it was flavorful and moist. So overall I would go back and try other treats. The cheesecake at Magnolia Bakery is one of those things. Cut the slack - bypass the cupcakes (which are only decent.) For the price of not even eight dollars you can have an ECSTATIC EXPERIENCE. Buy the cheesecake. Buy the cheesecake. It is the lightest, fluffiest, most cloud-lile cheesecake there is. The key-lime pie is excellent, with the softest most gentle whisper of real, sharp lime. this place is whatever. the cupcake trend is slowly dying and although the cupcakes are good here, they are not good enough to make it on their own. the service is actually pretty terrible - I ordered a dozen cupcakes 24 hours in advance with special birthday decorations for my sisters birthday and when i arrived to pick them up, 1 of the 12 had a happy birthday flag. I am not forking over an extra $10 for decoration for 1 stinkin flag. took me like 20 min to get them all made up in an acceptable way and at that point I could have just done it myself. going to sprinkles next time. read more

Love, love, love Magnolia Bakery. You can go to my Facebook Page at Garden Gate Cafe to see many pictures. It's as cute as can be. I had a very nice conversation with the general manager. They are a little overwhelmed right now since they just opened. I am certain that they are working hard to make it the best cupcake shop in Chicago. I have visited the original location in NYC and it's great to see that the owners have now expanded to Chicago as well as a number of other locations. Keep up the great work! Horrible service! I purchased some cheesecakes that my friends and I love so much - and while paying and signing the bill I asked the girl if its possible to break me $20 and she said that she can't do that unless I purchase something with cash - even if its $0.50. Ummmmm - I just did made an purchase I think! Manager was not interested in apologizing and she made a comment that staff is not authorized to do change only MOD's (that was not what I was told) and while I was leaving she barked at me - "Well do you want the change or not?".....Never coming back here! read more

Honestly, this bakery is expensive and the cupcakes are simply not as good as they should be for such a high price! The thing is that the actual cupcake is good, but it is RUINED by the topping especially if you get an cupcake with vanilla icing. The icing is watery, that's how I would describe it. Red Velvet, which is actually my favorite cupcake, is a FAIL here. Located in Block 37 building on State Street side, this New York bakery in Chicago is pretty awesome. Its signature red velvet cupcake is as good as advertised. But chocolate cheesecake is a must for anyone who likes rich dark chocolate. What they call icebox is essentially cold versions of pies and key lime pie versions of it is strongly recommended. This place isn't cheap. But it is a great treat very once in a while. read more

He picked the chocolate coconut slice. Not only he likes it, he gave it a 5/5! He was like "it's moist. It's chocolate! it's coconuty! Great balance!". He never give such score on cake, let alone a full sentence review (he is man of few words. He usually devour the whole thing before you get to taste/try it, or automatically push his food to your plate type...)

The young lady behind the counter was nice and friendly. I ordered the Oreo cookies and cream crushed chocolate cookies, chocolate covered shell with vanilla soft serve cream. After one taste and I wasn't impressed. Just a bunch of cream with crumpled up cookies. Not worth the money for these desserts.

Ratings: Croissant (Prosciutto) 4.5/5 very yummy! I do wish they toasted the croissant so it was warm. Quiche: 4/5 I loved the flaky crust. I wish there were different types Canelé: 5/5 for sure an item that we go to Hendrickx's for! The ambiance is a cute bakery. There is some seating indoors and some outside. The service is quick and they are very nice.

The only thing I didn't enjoy was their dense and heavy biscuit . It wasn't good on its own and it wasn't much better with jam and butter . This place operates as a bakery as well which is good and makes alot of their bread-y items from scratch which is a huge plus .
