Mag's has great donuts and ham and cheese croissants! My favorite donut is the blueberry donut, which they are well known for. I've been a few times during the pandemic, and the workers don't always wear masks. They are however, kind and friendly. I came here initially because they have Cronuts. On my first visit I wanted Maple Bacon Cronuts and there were none on display. I asked for them and they made them to order (base Cronut was already made). I ate it on the spot and it was amazing! I ordered some Cronuts with whipped cream filling and took those to go. On my second visit I ordered donuts and Cronuts. The donuts tasted like regular donuts from anywhere else but I'll keep coming back for the Cronuts. The prices are high as it will run you $40 for a 10 Cronuts but they are so damn good! The service is friendly and they have assorted coffee flavors there. Hubby and I DoorDash Mag's donuts a few months ago after seeing all of the highly rated Yelp reviews. We did not have the best experience upon receiving them. We got a few of the chocolate old fashioned donuts since Hubby had a massive donut craving. The donuts were extremely oily and the frosting dripped everywhere. Hubby took a bite and had to toss the rest away. Nonetheless, this was our delivery experience. Mag's is SUCH a classic in Irvine, and I've been coming here since high school! It's one of those very reasonably priced, delicious donut places that never disappoints. I've been ordering a dozen donuts from a different donut place each week, and I knew I couldn't skip Mag's. I ordered an assorted dozen and was so impressed by how much they've upscaled their branding. Their new boxes are so cute!! I added a good amount of specific requests and they listened to all of them, so shout out for the attentiveness. The donuts aren't like out of this world, but all the donuts were super fresh and delicious and worth the prices. I have a thing for cake donuts and old fashioned donuts (I was pretty sad they only gave one old fashioned), and the donuts were so decadent! When I was growing up in the early 90s in Irvine, Mags always had the best donuts (way better than Donut Star) and outlasted Krispy Cream. They were here before Duncan and Voodoo and any other donut shops. Tried, true, reliable. Best Apple fritters, maple bars, jelly donuts and the usual fair. I was craving donuts and didn't want to leave my house. Mag's popped up on postmates so I decided to give it a try since I've seen the storefront before. I got my go-to, maple bacon and a blueberry donut. I ordered in the morning so the donuts were fresh. I was a little letdown by the maple bacon. The maple itself was delicious but the bacon was a little soggy. However, the blueberry was deliciously baked and tasted amazing. I'm a customer to mag's 2 to 3 times a week, I spend at least $10 every time and leave a tip. This afternoon around 4 PM in need for a pick me up, went in for a cup of coffee, a bagel with cream cheese and a doughnut. There was a gentleman working who I know is an owner and is married to one of the sweet ladies who work in the morning. He poured my cup of coffee and handed it to me. There was no steam coming out and it was only lukewarm. I asked him how long the coffee had been sitting because it seemed like it was old and not hot. He rudely told me to try it out and then tell him if it wasn't good. I told him that I could see that it wasn't even hot and I would prefer a fresh cup. He went on to brew a fresh batch but didn't speak the rest of the visit and then gave me my bagel not toasted. Sadly, I won't be returning. It's not my first encounter with him, so I can't ignore it any longer, he's always rude. read more

Its been awhile since my last visit at this Mag's location and since I got a coupon for a free donut, I'm due for some sugar rushes. From the premium selection I got a "Maple Bacon Donut". It's pretty good, so far this is the best I've tried around the neighborhood because their version of the donut is softer. Once you bite into it the frosted maple glaze is infused sweetness along with saltiness from the bacon pieces. In the end it's really sticky. I paired it with an iced coffee to complete the experience. Also, my son loves their "Everything Bagels" which is topped with poppy seeds, garlic and onion flakes, salt and pepper. So that too was a good start of the day. I noticed that they remodeled inside, but the spacing gotten smaller than before. On busy mornings the line can be outside the door way to the front counter. When waiting for your coffee to be made, you're standing with other people waiting and you gotta make sure you don't bump elbows with someone in the limited space, especially those who are already holding their coffee. But the shop is nicer and the lighting gotten brighter. The people working the counters are friendly. Will definitely comeback for those donut, bagel, and Folgers type of mornings. read more

Friendly, prompt and efficient service. We had a big order for a party and called this location a few hours before pickup time. They were able to get together eight dozen donuts - fresh and assorted - and had them ready by the time we got there. The donuts were fresh, chewy and fun to eat. The selection was great - glazed, maple, chocolate, jelly donuts, bars, twists and other kinds I don't know the names to. What's great was that they didn't skimp on variety, as some places can if you get the assorted/dozen pricing. I had a coupon that came out to getting a free dozen (Buy 2 donuts, get 1 free - limit one dozen) - and the friendly woman was able to honor it without fuss. Only downside is the parking lot - which was packed, busy and full when we came around 6pm on a weekday. Not really the business's fault though. I go to 3 different donut stores and find THIS bakery to be the best one by far of the 3. Example, the Cinnamon Roll comes in glazed (like all the others), AND sugar cinnamon. I have not found a donut shop/bakery that does this. Mag's has 3 locations within 15 minutes to each other: Newport Beach (Bison), Irvine (Culver), and Costa Mesa/Tustin (Von Karman/Walmart). Mag can be found working in the back or on the counter at the Irvine bakery. Drop by and say hi, then see what specials she has for the day. Inefficient. I've tried this place twice and left disappointed each time. Last week I stopped and ordered bagel, toasted w cream cheese. I was the only person in there, and it took unusually long for one toasted bagel. I got to work and realized it had never been toasted. Just a cold bagel w cream cheese. Today was busy. 07.16.2018 Little O was taking a skateboard camp at University Park so of course I head out and start walking everywhere. I ended up at the plaza where Mag's Donuts was and... GAME OVER!!! These yummy blueberry doughnut holes are to die for!!! I bought a dozen, ate two, and had to tell Little O not to eat them all and save some for her sister and Dad. I was excited to try this place for their jelly donuts. For Hanukkah, they are a must have for dessert. Went there in person, ordered 8 plain donuts with raspberry filling in advance. After dinner I served them and my guests and I were shocked and saddened when we took our first bites. Three of the eight were lemon filled! The "raspberry" filled ones were horrible as they were a gelatinous mess of artificial ingredients. I had children at my dinner and it was difficult for their parents to not let them eat it. We happen to find this bakery on yelp but were hesitant because it was near closing and felt bad for stopping in last minute. We took a chance and when we got there, the owner was already cleaning. Whoa..do they fry their donuts an extra three times or something?...under the layer of whatever goody donut it is, ie, maple or sugar, there is a thin crispy layer that is hard to miss. It gives a lot of their donuts an extra crunch. Their glazes are also way too sweet, even if they are thinly layered on top. I tried a good mixture of all of their donuts, and the only one that stood out as a solid donut is their blueberry one. I might be biased because it's usually my favorite alongside the maple, but theirs was packed with flavor. It also didn't have the crispy layer I was talking about. It was just a good ole blueberry donut. The location is too convenient for me to say I'll never be back, but I'd rather make a trip to Janny's if possible to satisfy those cravings. read more

I have had these doughnuts numerous times and the quality is very inconsistent! Sometime there is a good one and most times there is a stale one! One of our co-workers brought some in today, the buttermilk with chocolate icing was so stale, one bite and into the trash and the maple iced cake doughnut tasted like curry. If you're a *very* early bird and looking for a donut, then Mag's is the place to go. I was looking for a place that opens early in the morning (5AM) so that I could grab some fresh baked goods for a coworker's birthday breakfast and that's when I came across Mag's. The donuts look good and they are packaged very cute. The prices aren't bad, especially if you want to get a few dozen donut holes ($2.50 for a dozen) but the whole donuts can get a little bit pricey. Still, from my first experience there, the donuts and donut holes tasted pretty good and I needed something tasty and good-looking to bring to work. They have boxes in all sizes so packaging your donuts as a gift works well here. I also bought a couple strawberry cronuts which were delicious. They made them fresh so I had to wait a few minutes but it was well worth it. It was fluffy and crisp, and the strawberries were very fresh. They have a wide range of other specialty donuts (such as the cronut) that I am looking forward to trying. You can also pick from various types of filling. I had mine with custard filling (delicious) but next time I think I'll try the vanilla creme. I also had a Vietnamese iced coffee, which was okay, not the best but it was a pretty cheap coffee and I prefer my coffee very sweet not bitter (Viet coffee is sometimes bitter and not for me). If Mag's is the only option then do it but if you have the luxury of time and have the opportunity to venture further away from the UCI area I say go somewhere else. I love a classic donut shop. I am a no frills type of guy. A sugar twist, a glazed twist, or a chocolate bar is all I need in a good donut. Mags offers these classic flavors and the also popular blueberry donut. While the taste and flavor of the don't are good what is really disappointing is the price that they charge for these basic donuts. Currently, it costs $21.99 for a dozen donuts which personally seems like highway robbery for basic donuts. I definitely understand rising costs due to the pandemic but $22 for twelve donuts is a rip-off...I find it hard to believe that the costs rose that much across the board. Before the pandemic, I remember that Mag's charged $17 for 12 donuts; still pricey but I somehow was able to justify it. It's just so disappointing because I love to bring my staff donuts every so often to show my appreciation but it makes it difficult to do that with these price hikes for the same basic product. Like the donuts didn't get bigger and a dozen donuts is still equal to 12. Cronuts were amazing and deserve 5 star! As well as the breakfast croissant. However, I ordered a Vietnamese coffee and the girl served at least 6 people after me, before she even started the coffee. And she wasn't working alone, it was 3 of them but she never once asked them to start my order. When asked how long was going to take "I'll get to it shortly". I ended up waiting 15-20 min for a mediocre coffee while everyone else was already gone with their happy self. I had a donut craving after work one day and decided to give mag's a call. I got lucky when I found out they were making fresh blueberry donut holes!! I sped over and waited about 10 mins for the fresh blueberry donut holes. The workers here are so nice they're a family and this branch is the original mag's! They're not the same as the one in Costa Mesa. I only wanted 4 blueberry donut holes but they gave me extra for free so sweet of them :) I was able to mix and match the donut holes so I got some glaze and crumb ones as well. I have to say the glaze was my fav!! The blueberry donut holes were good definitely a lot of blueberry flavor but I think I prefer eating the whole donut instead. The texture of a whole donut is better but I like having poppers of these. I've also tried their fritter and their customer service is so good here! The lady was nice enough to ask did you want a crunchy one? Then she tapped a couple with the tongs to see which was crunchiest! That won me over cause most donut places just grab random ones to throw in the bag for you. The fritter wasn't the best I've had, i felt it needed more apples in the filling. My work also ordered some of their cronuts and its good! Just wished it were more crispy. However, the cream and strawberries were fresh. Came here for the cronuts like everyone else and could not decide if I wanted the vanilla creme filled or Nutella and seeing they had glazed cream filled, i went with that and the Nutella cronut. At less than half the price the regular donut won in price but more important taste! It was fresher, softer, tons of filling, perfect all around, I could get a dozen of those. The cronut, while also good, was not the freshest and also didn't have as much Nutella as I would have liked, a bit dry.
