Small but super cute bakery with lots of options. We got 3 donuts and she gave us an extra one free. My kids were excited for that...AND they had pink French cruelers (sp?) and I can NEVER find those so that made me really excited. The girl working was quiet but very sweet. I woke up this morning and the first thing that came to my mind was BLUEBERRY DONUTS. My usual go-to for that is M&M Donuts, but they are usually out by the morning, so I decided to see what was around the area. Up popped Mag's Donuts so I poked and prodded the boyfriend out of bed to get my blueberry donut fix. AMBIENCE: It is just like any other donut shop. It is a small little store and it is quite busy in the morning. Donuts galore are just staring right back at you - I wanted to get each and every one of those glazed puppies, but no - blueberry donuts was what I came for and it was what I was determined to get! FOOD QUALITY: I got 4 blueberry donuts and a ham and cheese croissant. The blueberry donuts unfortunately seemed like they were about a day old. Also, it was not as soft, warm, and melt in your mouth like the ones at M&Ms. I didn't quite enjoy the fluffy muffin consistency it had to it either. The donut overall had a very artificial blueberry taste to it, which was not very pleasing to eat. The ham and cheese croissant, although heated up, was still cold when I bit into the middle of it. The price for 4 blueberry donuts and a ham and cheese croissant was about $7. SERVICE: Service was okay, but I wouldn't say outstandingly stellar. They get you in and out of the store as fast as possible. OVERALL: Although there was a lot of variety here, the one thing I wanted was a good blueberry donut, which is what I didn't get. I (shamelessly) like following new food trends, so when I read my first article about the legendary cronut, I knew I had to try it. I finally got a chance to go on a cronut hunt last night (visited three locations), and Mag's was my first stop. I bought two cronuts - the glazed cronut and a powdered, custard filled, strawberry cronut. The glazed cronut was very disappointing. Tasted like it had been sitting out for a very long time, the dough smelled of oil, and the consistency was hard - a solid 2 stars. The other one was better. The tanginess of the strawberries was a nice balance to the cronut, and the cream was very light and not overly thick. Cronut itself was lighter and not stale tasting like the first one - 4 stars. If I visit again it'll probably be for something else. read more

Not the friendliest service but the place is super clean and the selection was great. I came in on National Donut Day and didn't feel like driving far. I knew this was a place my company sometimes ordered from for events, but I wasn't sure where it was. My husband found it on Yelp and suggested it and I was curious enough to go. I bought four donuts (2 Maple Bacon YASSSS, one Boston Creme, one old fashioned) and they gave me a fifth donut free (chocolate cake with red, white and blue sprinkles). I'm not sure if that's standard or if it was because it was national donut day. The cake donut was just okay but the others were delectable and didn't last very long. An excellent cozy bakery store! They have such a great selection of donuts and their breakfast croissants are so big! The prices here are just right for their quality baked goods and I always leave always wanting more donuts! Lol my fav was the apple fritter. It has the classic cinnamon sugar taste inside and mine was soooo moist with the crunchy exterior. This had apple bits inside as well. No filling! I tried the fancy croissant donut with strawberry and cream and I felt like it was just okay really. The croissant wasn't so fresh when I got it and the cream was very light so the overall donut was bland. Next time I want to try their maple bacon and blueberry donut! Finally they reopened again. The place is smaller so they don't have a lot of the display cases. I don't know why they had to move into a smaller place when the original location was doing just fine. Now there is a Poke Me shop there where Mags use to be. I don't even know if this shop gets as much business as Mags does. I am thankful Mags is back in business. I've been to the Mag's Donut & Bakery located in Newport Beach, but I like this Irvine shop much better! First, they give you a CUTE box for all your delicious sweet treats, and it's totally photogenic. The NB location gives you a paper bag that gets all greasy by the time you take it home or to the office, so that kind of sucks. Also, I feel like the donuts and muffins at this location aren't as greasy as the NB shop and they taste much more fresh. My favorite item here is definitely the strawberry croissant donut (cronuts) filled with custard! They have whip cream filling as well but I prefer their custard much more. The cronut is so crunchy, crispy, soft, and sweet, all at the same time! My other favorites are the cinnamon glazed donuts and the blueberry donuts. The cinnamon donut is basically a glazed donut with cinnamon sprinkled all over, so you get the sweet vs. spicy in one bite. The blueberry donut was amazing and it tastes just like fruity pebbles!! It isn't too sweet and I could easily devour three or four. Also, if you have peanut allergies, make you sure tell them beforehand. I got the banana nut muffin since I assumed they were walnuts, but they were actually peanuts. So I was sad I couldn't try it but I gave it to my friend who said it was delicious! Parking is easy since there is a giant lot, but avoid the lunch crowd since there are lots of other restaurants in the same plaza. Definitely give this donut shop a try!! read more

Painfully slow wait time but good food! We ordered 2 sandwiches, 2 drinks, and 2 donuts which came out to $35, which is a fairly reasonable price for the size of everything. The sandwiches are bigger than you'd get anywhere else and are prepared properly with well-balanced flavors. They did great with that. The drinks were well-made and refreshing. Again, great price for the size. I like that you can choose your base for the smoothies (apple juice, regular milk, almond milk, etc.)... there's not very many places (that I know of) around here that do that. My only complaint is the service/wait time. I found it odd that instead of taking our order and preparing the food after, they prepared every item one-by-one WHILE taking our order. For example, we ordered our first drink, they went and made it, came back, we ordered our first sandwich, they went and made it, came back, and so on and so on. This made the process much slower and we ended up waiting about 20 minutes just to get our entire order even though we were the ONLY ones in the store the entire time. Overall, good experience. Not a very good place to go while in a hurry, though. read more

A cockroach was found in the box! After a few coworkers picked out some donuts, we discovered a roach in the box. We immediately threw the box and remaining donuts away. I went back to Mag's to show them the attached picture, but they did not take the incident seriously. They denied ever having a roach issue. I was offered a new box of donuts, but declined and requested a refund. I had purchased 2 dozen donuts but only received a partial refund for 1 dozen. I was told I needed to bring the box with the remaining donuts back to the store to get my full refund. Why bring contaminated food and a cockroach back into a food establishment? If you're going to charge $4 for VIETNAMESE coffee, AT LEAST HAVE CONDENSED MILK. That is literally one of the TWO BASIC ingredients. Got looked at like I was crazy for not settling for half and half in my coffee. This place charges $4 for iced black coffee and plays it off as Vietnamese. Also, their "eggs" are most definitely of the powdered variety. They use powdered eggs, but not condensed milk in their "Vietnamese" coffee. read more
