The only thing that threw me off was the cream cheese. My husband and I didn't want a plain bagel, so we asked to add cream cheese and were charged an extra $2 each. Over the moon that I found this one in Newport right by the airport!! I know 17th St. isn't that far away but this is even more convenient! Obviously, same great bagels, which are among the best on the planet, and fantastic service! Fewer seats compared to 17th but I got one just before my food was ready. We got the egg bagel with chive cream cheese and the nova lox on a cheddar jalapeño bagel to share with a friend. Both of them were really good. The jalapeno on the bagel gave the nova lox a little spice kick which was perfect. There are onions and you will have some onion breath afterwards so make sure you bring a mint or something. Since we had half half of the two, having the egg bagel while also eating the lox was the perfect combo since the lox did get to be a lot of flavor at times. Stopped by for breakfast before heading to a conference for breakfast. We beat the morning rush and got a table inside. I had the Californian on an everything bagel, minus the onion and tomato with bacon. It was delicious. The bagel had a chewy outside with a soft pillowy inside. The place was clean with seating inside and out. It is evident thst this is a local shop as customers greet the employees by name. Probably one of the most expensive bagels in OC but they offer fresh toppings and the bagels themselves are delicious.

Best bagels in the area. Been coming here and the Costa Mesa location for years. Service is pretty quick. Ambience is usually pretty busy. Only taking away one star because I think it's kind of annoying that certain bagels such as my favorite, the cinnamon sugar bagel, cannot be included in a dozen bagels purchase. Great location which is close to the airport, early hours make it convenient when you want to beat the crowds. A vast menu of breakfast and lunch to hit all of your sandwich needs. I got the everything bagel sandwich with bacon and cheddar cheese. The price was pretty normal for a bagel sandwich and the coffee (drip) was pretty good. My go to Shirley's location! The service here is a lot quicker than other locations and has shorter lines. There isn't much seating inside though so we took our food to go. Really good flavors for their basic egg and cheddar breakfast sandwiches. We got two, one with sausage and one with avocado. Love their jalapeño cheddar bagels, a must try! Having started life on the East Coast I've always appreciated really good bagels.  When I first found my way to the LB/OC area,  I tried a lot of different bagel shops, but most of them were lackluster at best.  Then, right before the Pandemic I found East Coast Bagel in Irvine, and recently I found Shirley's.   Until I found Shirley's, I would have given the New York Bagel "crown" to East Coast Bagel, but now that I've had both multiple times, I have to give the quality nod to Shirley's.  Not only are all their bagels the best I've found in LB/OC, their service and attention to detail is 2nd to none - especially this location in Newport Beach. They make fabulous sandwiches and everything is always fresh; their bagels taste the most like New York's finest of any in the area, and I especially love their "everything" bagels and their rye bagels.  The latter are so good here that no other bagel joint I've found locally makes one that even comes close to the taste :-) Shirley's is a really popular place, so if you decide to just walk in and place an order you may well be looking at a 20-40 minute wait, depending on how busy they are.  If waiting isn't your thing, the 2nd best way to place an order is over the phone; that eliminates the lion share of the waiting time once the order is placed.   Unfortunately, because Shirley's is so busy it sometimes takes 15-20 minutes before your call gets through to a human.  The very best way to place your order is using their online ordering system; the system is flexible, relatively bug-free, and you can add notes where notes make sense to make sure you end up with exactly what you want. I highly recommend Shirley's!  If I had my  license to Apparate, I'd probably give equal time to Izzy's Brooklyn Bagels in Palo Alto, but given that I was kicked out of Hogwart's for poor penmanship ("I will never tell lies" was never quite legible when I did it), PA is usually too far for me these days ;-) read more

Shirley's is my go to for quick and more affordable bagels. They have a good menu and I switch between their open face bagel and their Californian bagel (anything with avocado and I'm in). The CTA deluxe is for those who like extra creamy because you get it form the cream cheese and the avocado. The workers are nice and they take your order pretty quickly. The crowd is always a mix of people who order online and in person, so sometimes you have a crowd waiting next to where they call out names waiting for their order. Sometimes you'll get angry guests who have been waiting for their food. I usually eat it outside as they have two tables for a small group to enjoy their meal. read more

These bagels were amazing, nobody can eat just one! Stopped in here after landing at John Wayne on the recommendation of someone on the flight. When I saw the selection, I was like a kid in a candy shop. Certainly they had some of the standby's like sesame, poppyseed and everything bagels but what excited me were some of the not so common flavors like pumpernickel, oat bran, jalapeño and rye. The bagels were large and airy with a harder crunchy crisp crust. The cream cheese was expertly seasoned. The chive cream cheese was loaded with fresh chives, and I do not know how they prepared their plain cream cheese, but it was just better. Back to my introduction... being excited to try these fresh bagels I had to have one in the store before I left, had another in the car while enroute, and had another at my destination. CTA DELUXE on jalapeño cheddar is my go to every single time. Their bagels have a nice chew to them and the fresh veggies compliment the spice from the jalapeños. I love how thick the cream cheese is as well as it makes everything stick to the bagels. I have also had their lox bagel which was really good. Orange juice is great but never cold which is such a minor complaint. read more
