Mai is the best!!! I first came to her to get my nails done for my wedding, and I've been coming back every month since. Before I met Mai, I had a fear of getting my nails done (too many experiences with being cut, etc.). I communicated these fears to Mai and she was so patient and accommodating. She gentle patented me through the first few sessions and now, I'm not scared at all! Her studio is clean and her tools are all sterilized. Of course, she is also a very talented nail artist. Her structured gel application has prevented me from constantly breaking my nails (it provides great reinforcement to your natural nails). I was weary about stepping foot into a nail salon with our current circumstances, but my hands and feet needed some loving after three months without any attention. I found this place on Instagram (@ohmaijoy). It's a boutique within Salon Row. They specialize in non-toxic nail polishes. Inside Salon Row, they have a waiting area with some comfy seats and even a selfie station with a ring light, where you can send your pictures to yourself. The boutique itself, has only two nail technicians who are the owners and operators. I went with my daughter. They made sure that we washed and sanitized our hands upon entry. So, I appreciated that and the exceptional service they provided. They have a lot of experience between the two of them and just decided to open the business together. They were both super professional and personable. I can tell they knew what they were doing. Mai was even able to fix my nail where the matrix was damaged before and now grows cracked in two places. I've been going to Joy for my nails for years now. In fact, I make it a point to drive down from West LA to have her do my nails because she's THAT good. Sure, there are nail salons closer to me (i.e., more convenient), but none of them give me the same level of care and attention to detail that Joy does. So when my schedule and COVID regulations allow, I book an appointment to treat my nails to some pure Joy. And the she is worth every minute of that 80 min round-trip drive. She used to have a studio up closer to me on the westside. Back then, I was going to her more consistently and my nails were the best, longest, and strongest they've ever been in my life. And for those who have naturally strong nails, let me explain, my nails are naturally paper-thin, peel, and are likely to bend back on themselves causing excruciating pain if not trimmed down to the quick. So for me to say that I was able to actually have long nails and be able to stick my hands in my purse without having to think twice that my nail would rip off my finger, it was heaven. During my last visit at the salon, Joy did my mani while Mai did my pedi and both were amazing. The products both ladies use always leave my skin and nails feeling fresh and healthy. And it truly is nail art. I don't think I've ever presented Joy with an idea that she hasn't been able to execute PERFECTLY. I also love the chemistry between Joy and Mai. You can tell they genuinely enjoy each other and work effectively as a team. Their positive energy creates a great atmosphere and who the hell couldn't use some extra positive energy these days?? The salon setting itself is chic and immaculately clean. For those concerned about COVID, there are the standard precautions in place (e.g., everyone is masked, ladies have on face shields/goggles and wear gloves, you can bring your own goggles if you want) as well as some extra precautions. For example, I was the only person in the space aside from Joy and Mai (talk about feeling like a VIP) and you could tell they take care to sanitize everything between clients. The location is convenient, with plenty of parking available in the nearby public lot and some foods spots nearby in case you want a snack. And an additional bonus is that there are other services available in the adjacent suites for things like facials, hair, etc., so you can potentially max out your pampering experience if you plan it well. Can't wait to book my next appointment. OH, and if you're planning on visiting for the first time, ask them about new client discounts. I'm not sure if they still have them but it couldn't hurt to ask. Just make sure to tip well. These ladies deserve it. read more

I've been searching for a nail place for so long where I'd feel comfortable and since the pandemic I hadn't had a pedi in over a year. I cannot recommend Mai enough! She did a gel removal for me and was so careful to make sure there was no damage to the nail bed. I had tried getting the gel removed somewhere else prior to her but they didn't take off all of it. She asked detailed questions ahead of time to understand the materials that were being removed because I wasn't sure. She tested on one finger first to see it removed well. I'm so glad she was recommended to me because I have my natural nails in a healthy state truly thanks to her! read more
