Truly amazing. The food is awesome, I had the chicken curry panang, appropriately priced, most dishes are about $10 - $13 or so. The sauce was amazing and came with a sufficient amount of food. We also tried the garden rolls, which I would say I was disappointed in. I have found it difficult to find good appetizers at thai food restaurants and they are all overpriced, $6-$8 for spring rolls or what not. The food is well plated and the restaurant is clean and very nice. The service was ok, my water seemed to be left empty at times so waiter service is just ok, not terrible by any means. Overall: Best thai food I've had, give it a shot. Skip the appetizer. I haven't tried the sushi but it is not authentic so I wouldn't try the sushi. I will return. read more

Mai Thai Georgetown is just one block away from M Street. I had an enjoyable late lunch experience at Mai Thai. I ordered the pan curry and Phoenix sushi roll, while my friend ordered a duck noodle soup. Our server was sweet (really cute) and prompt with service.Their servers like to stand near the bar area and watch over the dining area. Kinda hard not looking over at this girl. Like I said, realz cute. The Pan curry and phoenix roll were okay. I enjoyed the surroundings and the company much more. Sure, I would come back here to try the food here again. I'm here in DC for a conference. I went to Georgetown....lots a great restaurants and a great atmosphere to find a place to eat. My buddy likes Thai and being from Florida where you just don't get good ethnic food for the most part...I was in. Nice looking place right off the main drag of Wisconsin and M. Had the Chicken Satay with peanut sauce...excellent...nice portion...you get 6 strips along with a little salad. The garden roll I thought was served hot but was not. missed veggies wrapped in rice paper. again a nice portion. entrees....plenty of food again. Chicken with cashews...lightly breaded...great flab=vor. buddy had the Pad Thai. Servie was excellent. Would recommend to friends and somewhere I will come again when I am back in DC. read more

I've been here three times now and I have to say I like it. I've only gotten two items, Pad See ew and Crispy duck, and both were very tasty items. In my opinion, the duck was much better and was pretty spicy. The food isn't the most authentic but it is good enough to have me come back.If your in the moos for some generally good tasting food at a price that isn't that bad for where its located, then stop on by. The parking at this place sucks but so does parking in Georgetown in general. Its basically 'gg' when you arrive (nerd joke). The service here is pretty meh. My waitresses are gone most the time and are never there when I need them. My water remains empty till I usually finish my meal. Not to complain too much but if they were attentive at the least then that would be great. The food has been good every time I've been. However, do not get the sushi. It is terrible. We got the spicy tuna roll (a very basic roll) and the sushi was oddly just mush. It looked like they grounded up the tuna and put a teaspoon portion in a wrap (which were also small). read more

I personally recommend the Panang Curry with chicken, and the chicken satay and dumpling appetizers are also very good. Mai Thai is my go-to neighborhood Thai restaurant. Living in Georgetown there are so many options for good eating but when you are looking for Thai food, value, and great costumer service, look no further. I've had multiple dishes here and can recommend the following for noodles: Drunken Noodles, Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. The Drunken Noodles do pack a punch but are amazing. Also the Pad Thai has a solid balance of sweet and savory notes. The Green and Red Curries are both fantastic; very balanced in terms of flavor and consistency. Lastly can't forget to mention the Tom Kha soup, certainly the best place I've seen prepare it. Wrapping up this review I would say that one of the highlights of this place is the portions--you can definitely get two meals out of a dish here! Also the service is excellent, when placing an order for pick-up it usually only takes 10-15min max for it to be ready. Definitely worth the many trips I've taken here! read more

I wouldn't even give this place a fraction of a star! The only thing this Mai Thai has in common with the Mai Thai on 19th street is the food. The service completely sucks! When my wife and I sat down we had one waiter take our drink order and 10 seconds later another waiter takes our order and then 30 seconds later a third waiter does the exact same thing. The waiters were clearly not coordinated. The original waiter takes forever to bring our drinks. When we finally ordered our food, I get the Ka Pow with chicken and beef. The waiter tells me that it will cost $2 extra. My wife ordered the Pepper garlic beef and asked to add shrimp, the waiter says that it will cost $3 extra. When the food comes out, my Ka Pow doesn't have chicken in it. My wife's food comes and there is only 3 shrimp in it. So if we are being charged $3 for extra shrimp how is each shrimp $1. We ask to speak to the manager and he says that the waiter was being nice because they usually charge $1.50 per shrimp. The manager than asks her if she would like more shrimp for more money. Right after she says no he immediately leaves while we are still talking to him. After I receive my food with chicken we were not checked on by any waiter. It felt like no one came to our table for 20 mins. After we were done eating, I had to get up and walk over to the original waiter and ask him for boxes and the check. It took him 10 mins to bring us boxes and the check. Overall, this place has very poor customer service. Even when to place is not packed the waiters still take forever to check on you. And the manager doesn't care as long as you pay your bill. My wife and I will never come back to this place, the only reason we went there in the first place is because we had a groupon. read more

In all fairness, I do eat a lot of Thai food, but it's amazing in hindsight that I have no vivid impression of what I ingested. This I guess is neither good nor bad...I clearly didn't hate it or love it. Bangkok Bistro gets 3 stars because our party of 4 had an enjoyable time, and there were no complaints about the food. We had delivery from Bangkok Bistro last night. In terms of delivery time, it was pretty standard and I have no complaints. The chicken satay was amazing and the chicken practically melted in your mouth. We also ordered the drunken noodles and pad thai. The menu indicated the drunken noodles would be really spicy. I have to admit, I was quite disappointed as it was a lot more bland than I expected. The pad thai was decent, but also slightly on the bland side. I have been to a lot of thai restaurants and I would say this one is mediocre. This doesn't mean to say I'll never try their food again. It just won't be my first choice. read more

Sigh...I don't admit this often, but I have an irrational love of coconut shrimp.We ended up at Bangkok Bistro because a friend suggested it after happy hour, and she convinced me by telling me about the deliciousness of the coconut shrimp. The shrimp, which ARE great because they're not fried excessively, were served in a bed "crispy papaya salad," which turned out to be just a little too much for me, but was good. Anyway, other selections we sampled were the fried calamari (won a "very good" from friends), the Thai Tea (way to sweet for me, but others loved it) and the Pad Jae Basil (I didn't try it, but heard it was delicious). The side salads were appreciated, and surprisingly good. Service was quick, and atmosphere was nice. They didn't complain at all about us all lingering and talking, even though it was a Friday night. I've lost count of the times I've been here. It's not the best Thai food I've had, but it serves to satisfy the cravings when I want Thai food or just something Asian in general since it also has sushi. My go-to dish is Pad Thai with chicken. I've learned that if you get the Pad Thai for delivery (after working some late hours in the Gtown area), it is a humongous portion that can last me three meals. The noodles are just the right texture and it tastes like every other Pad Thai I've had at other places, so good I guess? My favorite dish is their pineapple fried rice! The fried rice is OK. I mean, it's fried rice. I've yet to have any that has changed my life. It's the fact that the dish comes in a huge portion, not to mention it actually comes inside a pineapple! I still find that awesome after going there for more than 6 years, when it was still Bangkok Bistro. I've also had their curry before, the yellow and panang curry with both chicken and pork. I always find their meat to be overcooked and just not tender enough. I guess since they use lean meat it's harder for the meat to be tender and juicy like I'm used to with less lean meat. What I don't like about their curry is the soupiness of the broth. Yeah, Thai curry isn't as creamy and thick as Indian curries, but it's still weird to think of it more of a soup texture than creamy. It's also way too watery compared to the amount of rice they give you. Speaking of rice, this was the first place I was ever charged for an extra bowl of rice at an Asian restaurant six years ago! Having grown up in Houston, which has a huge Chinese population, I've never been charged for asking for more rice! Then, move to DC to college and BAM! $2.00 for a bowl of rice! When I was still in school, this had always been the top choice whenever there's a birthday gathering. I don't know if they still do this, but the birthday star gets a free meal, given that one goes with a group of friends. I liked the following entrees: Gang Pah, Gang Ped Yang, Green Curry, Crispy Duckling, Feast of the Sea (Sweet Thai basil with chili and garlic sauce), and Drunken Noodles. I wasn't particularly impressed with their Pad Thai, but their Mango with Sticky Rice and Banana Flambe awesome. Also, they have an extensive menu for drinks, and I used to order their Fresh Fruit Daiquiri (Mango was my favorite). I love this place for its convenience and huge portions. Seriously when I get the pad thai to go I can eat it for at least 3 meals straight. Great value for the amount you are getting but honestly I only get one of two things so I have no idea how the food is overall. I mean it. Something about the food makes me not want to leave anything on my plate. This place is an excellent spot to go to if you are searching for a nice get away from the hustle and bustle of Georgetown. This place is on a less busy street right off of Wisconsin. The restaurant lies on a quiet street one over from the busy M street. We were seated immediately in a half filled restaurant with a lot of group seating. The food is reasonable priced for the area with most dishes at 12.95. The portions are large. I would have been very happy with the experience, except that the pork in my green curry was tough. The curry had the right flavor and plenty of vegetables, but so-so meat is a dealbreaker. If the restaurant can focus to make their meat delicious consistently, this can fantastic restaurant. Ok I had to update my review because I'm very disappointed. I ordered from Mai Thai and decided to try something new from my normal steak noodle soup. So I ordered the red curry. For delivery the purchase has to be a minimum of 15$ so I decided ok let's add shrimp. I paid 5 extra for 4 mediocre basic shrimp. They gave me the option of paying $3 or more for $5 so I'm wondering if I decided to add shrimp for $3 would I have only gotten 2 shrimp? As if that's not enough, I'm just not feeling the dish. I'm currently sitting here try to push it down anyway so that my $21 for lunch in Georgetown doesn't go to waste. This may be a meal for some but it isn't a meal that I will be tasting or ordering again.,.the coconut milk in the curry is just a no go for my tastebuds. This place had a name change from Bangkok Bistro to Mai Thai. The food and service seems better (Bangkok Bistro started to go downhill). Their happy hours are great: $3 sushi rolls and $4 drinks. Awesome mojitos. They're 3:30-6 M-F. Best happy hour in Georgetown. Their Panang tofu is decent, although it's a bit sweet. A few friends and I ordered their food for take-out for the first time yesterday. We all loved it. The food arrived in less than 15 minutes (this is surely a record), and let me tell you, the flavor and entree sizes surely made up for the semi-expensive mid-afternoon cost. We were able to have Bangkok Bistro for lunch AND for dinner. And there were still leftovers! Trust me, we are hearty eaters as well. We ordered the duck curry $18.95, the drunken noodles $9.95, and the Bangkok Fried Rice Combination $11.95. Yummy! And for dessert, we ordered the spiced, caramel bananas with their own vanilla ice cream. We couldn't have been happier and we will be ordering from them again soon! Delicious! read more

My girlfriend and I dined at Mai Thai this past Friday night. We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arriving. The waitress was very quick to bring cold water and took our order for sashimi and dumplings right away. The sashimi was very fresh and delicious. The dumplings were hot and fresh as well (served with veggies too). For our main entrees we both got Pad Thai (she got pork while I got chicken). The dishes were VERY large and we could barely clear half the plates. Definitely a place where you will be taking a box home with you. I had delicious Pad Thai for lunch the next day. All of the food was very fresh and the service was excellent. Make sure to leave a nice tip for nice service :) The atmosphere was not too loud at all - but we might have been a little before the super busy dinner rush. Even so, the layout seems to allow for many conversations while not carrying voices a long way. Also, the dining seats were very comfortable. The prices were affordable and we ended up spending around $50 for two people (no alcohol, though). I would strongly recommend checking this place out. We will definitely be back. read more

So I'll start off by saying the food was really good! All of it. Pad thai was amazing and so was the sushi. However, this is the worst service I've ever had. My friends and I went here for dinner last night because we hadn't had a sit-down dinner in forever. I was extremely disappointed at our treatment at this restaurant. When we first sat down, the service was good. Our waitress brought our drinks and took our orders promptly. However, my friend who got sushi's order came out 20 minutes before ours and our orders took over 45 minutes to make. This would be fine if the restaurant was packed, but we were one of maybe 3 tables in the entire place. When we finally received our food, the order was completely wrong. The waitress came by to ask if everything was ok and we said this wasn't what she ordered, but she didn't want to send it back since it already took 45 minutes to make and we had to leave shortly. When we received the check, the waitress had put the wrong order on the check, which was double the price of the original order and also added an automatic 18% gratuity. We told her that we shouldn't have to pay for her mistake and she returned with the check and removed a $2 iced tea from the order. Naturally, we asked to speak to the manager. Our waitress returned 15 minutes later to collect the check with no manager. I then asked again to speak to the manager and proceeded to wait another 20 minutes for him to arrive. When the manager arrived, he began to ARGUE with us. He then blamed the error on a "language barrier", and never apologized. He took the check back and put the original order on the ticket along with the iced tea that waitress had taken off. The fact that the order was wrong was not what I'm angry about. It's the fact that the staff did absolutely nothing to fix it and then proceeded to blame the issues on us. As someone who has worked as a server, I would never treat a customer like this and am absolutely appalled that the manager did basically nothing to fix the issue. The least you could do was grab the manager promptly when you realized there was a problem. We waited at least another half hour after we received the check the first time to speak to a manager, who was even less helpful the waitress. I understand mistakes happen, but as a manager, it's your job to fix them, even if they aren't yours. So, the bottom line is food is great, management sucks. read more

I haven't been able to eat here for over two years since I moved away from DC, but I still think about it often and here's why: the green curry. The portion (at least when you get it takeout) is giant with lots of delicious eggplant and bamboo shoots. My roommate and I used to order it all the time, and were convinced that they put some form of crack in it because we craved it so badly. Very good customer service- my friends and I came in ten or twenty minutes early and they let us sit inside from the DC heat. I didn't get much, only rice and miso soup but it was satisfying. Although the rice barely noticeably dry, it was super fragrant and it reminded me of the rice i eat at home. When they brought us our check, it was all in separate receipts which was extremely helpful. I'd come back if my stomach was feeling better and I had more money. read more
