Was last here years ago and the place looked exactly the same. Drinks are flowing, people are talking, karaoke was going strong on a Sunday evening. Very loud, of course...but fun to visit with friends. Didn't stay horribly long but everyone was friendly. Restrooms seemed clean. Hopefully I'll have more to say someday soon. read more

I have reported unsanitary conditions at this establishment to the City of Cincinnati Health Department. There was a live cockroach twitching its antennas on a white towel that was sitting on the countertop behind the bar where drinks are prepared. The male bartender was standing directly over the clearly visible cockroach and didn't do anything about it. This happened near closing time on Thursday 11/29/18 (early Friday morning). Needless to say I will warn others of the unclean conditions here and suggest they avoid coming here, as I will in the future. This bar should be condemned and demolished, and "Junior", the owner should have retired long ago. read more

We passed this bar on the way to the casino and came back for the drag show. They were so accommodating and drinks were not expensive. The bartender remembered all of our drinks, the guy took all of our empty cups regularly, the drag queens were attentive to our party and they played great music all night! We visited this bar tonight. It was a little sketchy walking in but we wanted to give it a chance. Do not recommend this place. Sketchy is an understatement. It's a drug bar. Did not deal safe here. Main Event is the relocated The Subway, forced out of the Metropole building to make room for the 21C Hotel that will open sometime in 2011 or 2012. Some friends and I ended up here after one of my friends insisted that we should leave Arnold's and hit a new bar. Since Main Event was close by, we went there. Now, admittedly, this isn't a promising start to anything. After all, this is why most people end up going to an Applebee's--it was close to something else. The cover was $10, and when we balked at the full price, they let the three of us in $15. (It was kind of a miniature groupon--there need to be more discount clubs. I should note that I was with two attractive blond women--that likely had something to do with the discount.) I've heard in the last week that Main Event is supposed to be a good house music club. We were there on a Saturday, and the music was nothing special, but more in that Tsk-tsk-tsk club noise range. While Subway was a straight-friendly gay bar, Main Event doesn't seem to be particularly gay-oriented, but does have an all-are-welcome vibe, particularly if you'll buy one of the regulars a drink or give them bus fare home. (No, I'm not making that part up.) So about that clientele... do you ever go to a neighborhood bar, and there's always that one aggressive person that insists on talking to you, and is loud and drunk? Do you ever wonder, wow, do those folks have a place to call their own? Well, a pretty big group of those folks hang out at Main Event. In a side note, I'm amazed that I'm the first person to review this place. There should be a special category for people in Cincinnati that review night clubs. I mean, there are like 30 reviews of Neon's on here. Don't people ever try anything new? :) read more

Went here after taking care of some business downtown. After a very stressful day I thought a drink would be nice. It was happy hour and the bartender SEEMED pleasant, putting on a small show behind the bar. I noticed his comments started becoming rude to other guests but must have been regulars. I suggested that he do something from Hello Dolly. He took offense to this and started becoming belligerent and screaming names at me. I was so humiliated and embarrassed. I was in tears as i walked out. I will NEVER go here again and if you don't want to be called names like your being bullied in school may I suggest another more mature environment. read more

Great place! When the kitchen is open the food is tasty and original. The drinks are moderately priced and the bartenders are friendly and fun (especially that hottie Brian!!!). The Main Event was a good hang out if you are not looking for a nice looking bar. The Cabaret show was decent but not as exciting as Below Zero. The drinks are very reasonable and the people are friendly. They do have a pool table if you are a pool shooter. read more

I was walking around downtown Cincinnati yesterday, looking for a place to grab a couple beers while waiting for a friend to pick me up. After walking 15 or 20 blocks in circles passing bar after bar, I came across Main Event. As soon as I set foot in the door I was greeted with a hello and how ya doin from the bartenders and customers alike. This was refreshing to me because the last time I was in downtown Cincinnati I made the tragic mistake of going to Cadillac Ranch, which is a total a**hole fest. Main event is the exact opposite. The beers were cold and inexpensive, and the bartenders/clientele were friendly and talkative. Great spot. A hidden gem! I will be back! read more

Had a great first time experience this past New Years at this place. A DJ friend was going to be spinning here so our group took the chance and went to this new place. We are all glad we did. (To answer Shawn's closing question, not that often...but my group tries to.) Cover was an easily palatable $5 for men and $3 for ladies. Our group came in and was quickly down with the dub step house type music that was blasting from the DJ booth. We all danced ourselves silly before heading down to Fountain Square for the midnight fireworks. We came back later and once again danced like fools and really had a great time. I believe that the bar tender at the main event on main St. has stolen money from me. I was there Monday night when I gave him a fifty dollar bill to pay for my drinks. He gave me five one dollar bills back. I reminded him that I gave him a fifty. He said oh and gave me 2 twenties and one dollar back. I was there Friday night and I was buying drinks for me and my sister I know I did not spend the seventy dollars I had even if I was high. I came home with 4 dollars. Eddie must notice how high person is getting and realizes that when he gives change back people don't always count their money. I took for granted he would not cheat me. I will never enter that bar again. And Eddie may think he getting away with basically robbing you. Count your money when you get your change back. He got me good. read more
