Love this place! 10/10! It's our go-to for Hawaiian food. Love the build tour own concept. Chicken katsu is delicious. We just tried the kalbi last night. Sooo good!! The Kalua pork is so juicy and tender. The mochiko chicken is delicious as well. Mac salad is on point. Kimchee slaw is great as well as the garlic edamame! Get the musubi if they have any left. Staff is always very friendly (even when I'm changing my mind). The only downside is that I always leave wanting to book a trip to the islands!!! Definitely try them out! read more

WHAT HAPPENED?? I've eaten at Makai many times over the years but this last experience was beyond terrible. Absolutely nothing was right and the taste was off. Ordered online directly via Makai's website for delivery. Restaurant immediately called to inform they were out of all poke so I had to replace the main item in one of my bowls. Unfortunate, but I placed my order 45 min before close so it's understandable. HOWEVER, once my order arrived it was entirely wrong AND cold. The delivery distance was less than 2 miles and didn't take long to arrive after leaving the restaurant, so this means the food was already cold when the driver picked it up. To add, NONE of my meats or sides were correct! With a detailed receipt attached to this order on the bag...why even bother? Ordered two bowls: medium and small. One bowl was given chicken teriyaki instead of Kalua pig. Ordered (and paid extra for) Mac salad to replace rice in both bowls but only one was given Mac salad. Also, asked for garlic edamame as a side in one of the bowls but was given CORN. The rice given was brown instead of the requested white and the katsu sauce was KETCHUP! Why play in my face like that?? I know they both start with 'K' but c'mon!Ketchup isn't even the same color as katsu sauce. I was thrown whatever they had left for the day with zero regard for customer satisfaction. The bowls were filled with tons of old, gross corn. The chicken katsu was disgusting and not fresh with ketchup being passed as katsu sauce. There is no excuse for any of this and most of what I ordered was thrown in the trash. I won't be returning. I have been very anti making myself lunch lately and I was craving their delicious mac salad, so I had to order some Makai for lunch for delivery. They had a special on their medium bowls. Even though a small bowl is typically more than enough for me, I ended up getting the medium. I got double the amount of mac salad and double the amount of chicken katsu and it also came with the rice. It was soooo good! I love their chicken katsu, it's so tasty. And their mac salad is probably some of my favorite mac salad ever. I have been in here once, but it's been a while so usually I get it delivered. Definitely recommend this spot! read more

So service was excellent as far as helping down the line. The girl that helped me was so nice and very friendly. The place was absolutely empty at 7p on a Friday night. I was a little shocked when ordering a 2 plate and getting the same protein and side being charged for double even tho a medium plate comes with two proteins and two sides. As for the food it was just ok. The chicken wings are not as flavorful and sticky as they use to be and the Mac salad was salty! I hadn't been here in awhile and honestly I don't know if I'll return. It was disappointing to be over charged and having lack luster flavor in the food. read more

No "aloha" here whatsoever & I really wanted to like this place since the Teri Chicken was decent. It should have been obvious it was my first time to check em' out but the girl at the register said NOPE other side. OK. The other girl plating the food, not much nicer but at least I got my food. I was a total inconvenience to them or so they made it seem. At least the girl mopping the floors was friendly. My advice is until there's some people with genuine "aloha" working there, I'd go a few miles down the road to Mo' Bettah's and get you some of their Pulehu chicken instead. The music was calming and going along with the videos on the tv screens. My spicey and regular poke were both well balanced and proportioned. I've been a loyal customer for years. With all of the new competition in town I thought Makai would try to shine. Instead, they try to squeeze their customers. Normally a plate would be filled completely. Instead, I watched an employee pick out strands of kimchi slaw from my container after giving me a half full scoop of Mac!. The entire order was light and I was forced to interact with employees who did not want to be there and had no concerns about customer satisfaction. This is a great bang for your buck meal. For the medium, you get a ton of meat and sides. Potentially enough for more than one meal depending on how much you eat. Meat was well cooked and seasoned. I love that they also offer options for my friend who is gluten free. They also have a good Mac salad and spam masubi. The masubi is kept hot under a heated area so it was difficult to open at first and did not stay together after a bite. The staff provided great recommendations for meats and sides. So you follow in formation and you can start the ordering process. Everyone at the counter was very friendly. You pick and choose your meats, and your sides. Pretty good Hawaiian plate lunch food. Tried for the first time through an Uber Eats deal and we enjoyed it. Knocked a star off only cause the kalua pork was a little too salty. We loved their fresh poke. Haven't been back in a while, decided to stop back in. Found a bathroom in terrible shape. Food is no longer delicious. The way the poke looks, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot stick. Cashier just seemed confused. Lots of teenagers running around. Seemed more like a social experiment than a business. I love Makai Pacific Island Grill for the wide variety of combinations you can create. I have days that I'm craving Hawaiian food and Makai hits the mark every time. It's a quick casual concept like a Chipotle where you move down the line and the food is hot and ready to be served. I'm usually greeted by more than one employee every time I go in. I usually get a medium combo where you get two proteins, rice, and two sides. My favorites to get are the grilled chicken teriyaki or the teriyaki steak and for my sides I love the macaroni salad and corn or edamame. This last visit I tried the mochiko wings which were huge and crispy. I like how they offer regular or spicy teriyaki sauce, I usually get both. They also have poke and salad for healthier lighter options. The service is always friendly and quick. I walked in and got no greeting. The cashier had her past the shoulder length hair out and about and was drinking boba at the register. Already completely unprofessional and a turn off as a customer. Of course she wasn't wearing a name tag so I couldn't get her name. I wanted poke but they were out for the day so no big deal. The same cashier then walks over to the food area and touches her hair right above everything. of course i end up finding a hair in my food. not sure if it was mine or hers but it was likely hers since she had it down in all areas of the kitchen. just gross. not sure why i tipped but still didn't get a thank you for that of course. Consistency is definitely a Makai strength when it comes to food quality. The dining area is always clean as was the restroom. We ordered food to go for ourselves and the kids. We live at n the NW but the kids live in Henderson. We appreciate that no matter what location we visit, the food is always great. The employee who put our food together was fast efficient and friendly. The young man who rang us up was likely new bc he had a hard time ringing us up and our food was bagged kind of sloppy. I got the small chicken katsu plate with Mac salad, spicy poke and musubi. Nothing stood out as amazing. It was all just regular tasting. The spicy poke was awful! Normally I can just about anything. This poke tasted spoiled. I tried to force myself to eat it but couldn't. I spit it out and threw it away. Not sure if this is normally what their poke taste like but it was horrible. Everybody is tightening what they're giving and also charging more. I've been here several times and generally have been real happy with what I got in the past. I showed up with no one in front or behind me in line. I ordered the large that comes with three meat choices. First thing I asked for was chicken katsu. The girl behind the counter sliced up the piece of katsu and put it on the scale but the last small thin slice I guess that would have gone over the scale weight but geez I couldn't get the full piece of chicken? Even the same with the teriyaki chicken she put some on my plate then took some off. My other plate was going to be a small but there would have only been three small flats of chicken wings so I had to up size to a medium (double meat) to get a total of 6 small flats. This place has become a money grab. Maybe they've got money troubles cause this place is never full. Kind of sad I liked this place. I dont know that I will make it back with another Hawaiian place that just opened just up the road. I wish them luck but there has been a change here not for the better. read more

The food at Makai is good. I usually get the grilled chicken or steak. The issue with this place is even though they weigh the food, it is ALWAYS incorrect. I asked before, and they said you get 4.5 ounces per serving. As someone who has been weighing food for years because I try to stay as lean as possible, I can eyeball 8oz of chicken. Today, I ordered (online) 3 8oz containers of grilled chicken (24oz). When I got home, I reweighed the containers because the servers never gave the correct amount, and I tracked the protein. With all three containers on the scale, the weight wasn't even 20oz, including the container. When I dumped the chicken by itself onto the scale, it only weighed 13oz. They are flat-out stealing from the customer. At least update your site or train your staff on how to use a damn food scale. This happens pretty much every time I go there, and I finally decided to bitch about it :) read more
