Waited 35 mins for 1 small drink. When we finally asked they had just forgotten the drink on the counter. There was a girl with black hair there that immediately apologized and made the drink again. She even gave us a free drink for the following time and is the only reason this review is getting 2 stars. There was a male working there that was distracting them the whole time and when they saw my drink on the counter he said we should just give it to them like this. A drink that's been sitting there probably for 15 minutes. He followed it up with more jokes about us and it was extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable because we literally did not interact with that man. This was on a Sunday at 5pm 10/12. read more

The food and drinks are great. I think they need diversity training or better customer service training with their staff. The cashier yesterday was busy socializing with other customers when she was already taking our order. She was all smiles and looking pretty and cute but she was so distracted saying hello to other customers to our left and right that she literally did not hear my friend say "hot" for her maui latte like she said it 4 times, but she doesn't hear her coz she kept interacting with customers behind us in the line. Like her eyes were glued to other customers trying to catch their attention when we were the ones in front of her and she was the one asking if my friend wanted her maui latte iced. Also she assumed she wanted it iced and she immediately put in her register "iced" and when my friend had said several times "I'd like it hot, please", "hot" and "hot, please", etc. she could not hear coz of course she was busy looking at other people beside us. She was so hooked with trying to get the toddler's attention and a couple of guys behind them. We ended up laughing coz we felt stupid just standing there, ignored. So how does that make anyone feel? Anybody in our shoes would feel ignored and disrespected. I even mentioned we have a distracted cashier and she ignored that too and never apologized, just kept flashing her pretty smile. And so I observed her after we took our seats and then she looked so serious and intent with the customers in front of her. She was so locked in on her job, looking the customers in the eyes like she should. She did not look distracted at all. So then I realized, her behavior earlier was just for us. We felt unseen, like "I don't want you here in this cafe so I will ignore you and socialize with other customers while you're trying to talk to me with your order." Please do better for your future customers. There's a thing called bias training and cultural diversity trainings in the corporate world that Makenna coffee might want to introduce to their staff for better customer experience. read more

Price is so good, flavors are bomb. It's like a Dutch bros! Only complaint is that the drinks are SWEEETTT lol. I love sweet and I usually get regular or extra at places and this place even I have to ask less sweet haha. Because it's so sweet, it feels like dessert more than morning coffee which isn't a pro for me, so I learned to get simple flavor drinks when I go in morning or less sugar or extra shot. Also - just get a large because you'll finish your drink on way back if you get regular size. It's a 12oz but I think it's just a lot of ice :) read more

Update! I went back and gave it another try after the disastrous first visit a year ago. It's safe to say it's somehow managed to get worse. Dirty counters, rude and slow staff, cringe music that's way too loud, and there was a hair on my drink. I couldn't imagine ordering food from here. 0 stars if it was possible. I pre ordered two coffees, and when I arrived to pick it up. I only had one coffee and the other one was just an empty cup with a sad face on it. So I stood there at the counter for 4 minutes waiting to see if all 4 girls would stopped and ask me if I needed anything. They all kept ignoring me until I asked one about my coffee. She told me. We ran out of oat milk and I did see another girl loading up the refrigerator with cartons of oat milk, almond milk, so I pointed it out to her and ask if she could please make that coffee, and she said no because we don't have oat milk. Anyways I asked her for a refund and she said that she would do it at the end of her shift. It's $7 and I still haven't seen my refund. We have been here quite a few times and tried different iced coffees on their menu. They are sweet coffees, which I like. We have also ordered their plain black coffee, smoothies, and baked goods, which have all been great. The location is cute and trendy. The wait times can be long depending on the time of day. I have experienced two times in the last few weeks that Makenna was out of supplies. The first time they ran out of 32 ounces cups. My daughter and I had both our hands full carrying 4 16 ounce cups. The second time they ran out of matcha which was the only drink I wanted. It is very concerning when a place runs out of basic supplies. Accumulated review from 4-5 separate visits. The first three coffees from Makenna were delicious. The caffeine was strong and the flavor was balanced. But for the last two coffees the caffeine seemed to disappear and so did the flavor. With this being said. I will definitely give Makenna a few more shots because they are newer and I understand businesses take time to get settled but next time I will definitely ask for a remake of a drink. I heard many good things from my Simi Valley friends about Makenna and have been waiting since December for this place to open. First time coming here and I was honestly a bit overwhelmed by the menu. I am a simple cold brew with a splash of oat and occasionally, butI will get a Vanilla iced cold brew. I thought I would try their coconut cold brew to change things up. I also got one of their Croissant sandwiches to pair up with my sweet cold brew. The coffee was quite sweet even though I asked for half sweet. The menu and coffee taste reminds me quite a bit of Dutch Bros. If you like sweet and flavored coffee, you will love this place! The sandwich was okay as I left still a bit hungry, though I may actually recommend the Flying Yolk next door as they have real breakfast sandwiches. I believe the combination of having these two places next to each other is amazing. The inside is not too large and the line can get long pretty quick. I believe this place has outgrown their location. Too small and too crowded. Approx 11-12 employees working at a time but the wait time is much longer than places like Starbucks. I don't drink coffee but I had my first taste of an iced matcha a couple months ago from Starbucks. Too me a few try's to actually like matcha.... More than enough Gen Z employees, but somehow this place struggles to turn out simple caffeinated beverages when there are more than ten customers (read: be prepared to wait 45 minutes for your order at peak times). Speaking of Gen Z, I am not sure if it's down to this ambivalent cohort, or perhaps due to poor training, but the floor and tables are unfailingly filthy. In-N-Out associates would never... Think I've spent my last buck here, which is a shame. I really wanted to love this place. Final facepalm moment today: I drove across town to order a couple coffees (arrival time: 3:30pm; posted closing time: 7:00pm). After ordering, I asked for the WiFi password. The teenage girl (I assume supervisor?) flippantly told me: "We are actually about to close early because it's Father's Day, but you are welcome to use the WiFi outside." POV: it is 90-degrees and there is a wildfire raging nearby = smoke and ash everywhere. I told the young lady they should have posted their modified hours before kicking out customers (look--I don't love Starbucks, but I would have opted for a table there, had I known I was about to be unceremoniously tossed out). We love the coffee here, but we've noticed lately they have been inconsistent with the taste. We always get the hawaiian honey and north shore almost every day, and some days it tastes way too milky or something. I've brought this up to the barista everytime to get the drink remade, which I usually don't do but honestly the coffee is on the pricey side. I wouldn't want to waste $13 on a singular drink that wasn't made correctly. However whenever I bring this up to the barista, they always seem to try to get me to just accept the drink the first time. It's just really unfortunate because Makenna is probably the best coffee shop we've got here because the taste is always consistent and rich, but lately they've been messing up and I don't want to always have to ask for a drink to be remade. read more

BUSY & LONG WAIT SOMETIMES...which goes hand in hand when you have amazingly good coffee! The ambience is fun, cozy and welcoming for all types of people. On days when it's not busy at least. Haha. Otherwise, it is a bit chaotic & can be kind of a wait to order, and get your coffee. So definitely avoid lunch time & Sunday church service...PEAK HOURS! Except I think it's worth the wait, and don't understand the complaints people have shared. If you see a line at a coffee shop, and wait to get some only to complain about the wait? You're being ridiculous. You obviously thinks its worth the wait, especially if you're going back for more...which I personally have! The staff is always polite & willing to offer suggestions. The food isn't too bad either, the pastries are a big seller as well. The iced Cabo San Lucas is my favorite. Despite the sugar & cream in the drink, you can still taste the roast of the coffee. Great coffee baristas are super helpful with recommendations we got Mexican Mocha and Waikiki iced both with almond milk and wow. They are a little busy on Sunday mornings because of RLC but definitely worth it, they even have outdoor seating as well which is super comfortable. read more

I stopped by Makenna Koffee on Saturday thinking it would be a decent place since it's owned by Real Life Church, but I was clearly wrong. The drinks took an incredibly long time to make, which was frustrating, especially when there were only a few customers in the shop. What made it worse was the attitude of the staff. The girls working there were rude and seemed uninterested in providing good service. It was not the welcoming or friendly vibe I was hoping for, especially from a place owned by a church. Overall, I was really let down by the poor service, lack of professionalism & DIVERSITY. Walking into the store I only saw blondes behind the counter. I am very disappointed... Ohhhhh if you want some good coffee with a different flare than the over abundance options...go here! We had been talking about coming here since we saw the sign going up and finally had the opportunity. We went this Saturday and be prepared it is BUSY! We waited half an hour after ordering but we weren't trying to rush either. You can tell the workers behind the counter were hustling and really took the time to make every order right. We noticed some people who ordered after us who got their orders first but didn't complain. I washed it up thinking mine was a hot coffee and may take a bit longer. Either way, the coffee was delicious and the lemon blueberry coffee cake was epic and just the perfect amount to split. We will be back again (on a slower day) and hope it sticks around! read more
