We loved it. A cool modern space on First Street across from Punch Bowl Social. We'd read that it had a Michelin Bib. Of course we didn't know exactly what that meant, but Lil Frank looked it up. Apparently, it is awarded to great restaurants that are more affordable than a fancy full on Michelin Star place but still really good quality and service. We sidled up to the bar. The bartender brought out an ice cold bottle of water (big thumbs up from the Franks). We asked for a starter recommendation and he suggested their Chinatown Dumplings. The dumplings had a very good flavor although they could have been pan fried for a little longer for a more crunchy dumpling. Big Frank ordered the spicy noodles with pork belly and Lil Frank got the Steak and Egg Jian Bing, hold the sriracha (of course). Big Frank's noodles rocked the free world. Really fresh tasting with a hint of a citrus spark. He ate it like he was about to fast. Lil Frank's Jian Bing came out looking kind of like a sandwich. It looked so good, Lil Frank couldn't wait to eat her meal. The pancake, which was folded in half to make a kind of sandwich, was the perfect amount of crispy, the steak had a taste of Moo Shu pork. We loved the feel of the place: casual and relaxed but cool. The Gansta Rap that played the entire time we were there was... odd. But overall we give it a 4 out of 5. I absolutely adore MAKfam! I've been here twice now and each time has been an awesome experience. The modern take on Chinese cuisine is so yummy and everything tastes 100% homemade. The dumplings, noodles, crab cheese wontons. And the chrysanthemum tea was from actual chrysanthemums, not just a tea bag. I have not had a single bad thing from here and will continue to recommend this place to folx that I know. Service here is quick and kind. And the vibes? Immaculate! Food was ok fairly greasy and bland, I had to ask for soy sauce. Beans tasted kind of weird but pork sauce was ok. Corned beef fried rice was good. Needs better seasoning overall and the tip would've been better had I not received such an attitude from the bartender. Went to Makfam for lunch and was so excited from all the hype! Lucked out with parking as we found a spot right in front, which feels like a small victory when it's street parking. We got there about 30 minutes after they opened, and it wasn't busy, so we were seated right away. Since we don't usually make it to this area, we went all in and ordered a bunch of dishes. Here's the breakdown: 1. Four Season Pork with Green Beans - Solid dish! The green beans were cooked just right (not mushy), and it wasn't overly salty. 2. Sizzling Spicy Noodles - Favorite dish of the meal. The mala spice had a nice tangy heat that's not overpowering but flavorful. The noodles were thick, chewy, and just perfect. 3. Chinatown Dumplings - Meh. The dumpling skins were a little too thick for my taste. I prefer a thinner wrapper that doesn't feel as doughy. 4. Crab and Cheese Rangoons - Also just okay. They're shaped like dumplings (closed rather than open), and the filling was sweeter than I expected. It was also more liquidy--I was hoping for a creamier, cheesier texture. 5. Fancy Wonton Tong - Not what I was expecting. It came in a chicken broth, which threw me off. The wontons themselves were good, but I only ate one because I didn't love the broth. 6. Mala Wings - Really enjoyed these! The mala flavor was there without being overwhelmingly spicy. They were crispy, juicy, and the wings were a good size. Sadly, we lost half of them when we accidentally dropped the takeout box (RIP wings). 6. Jian Bing - Not for me. There was too much hoisin sauce, which overpowered everything else. 7. Pork Bao Bun - Underwhelming. The pork belly wasn't as tender as it should be and was a bit chewy. There was also too much sauce, which made it feel unbalanced. Wouldn't order again. The atmosphere is fast-casual, and while the staff was friendly, they don't really check in after dropping off the food. Overall, some hits, some misses. We had high expectations due to all the hype and Michelin recognition. While the food was good, it did not at all blow us away. The other problem was that the music was so awful and they played it so loud we couldn't hear the person next to us talk. A really impressive meal. Flavors were on point, and anything starch- noodles, buns, etc. - were the perfect texture. Fancy Wonton Tong- the broth was insanely good. Once the wontons were devoured I was still going after the remaining broth. Pickled vegetables- fresh and crunchy, wish there has been more hearty pieces vs. thin slices of carrot and cabbage. Pork Belly Bao Buns- best I've had. Buns were perfectly fluffy, pork was moist and shredded (so no fatty pieces) and the perfect amount of sauce and scallions on top. Sizzling Spicy Noodles- got this with pork since it was so good on the buns. Again, great chewy texture of the noodles. Ideal level of spice. Tried Makfam after dozens of food blogs recommended including Yuan Wonton. I went with a friend on a Sunday night and we were seated immediately. Space is small and you order at the counter. I'm from NJ and knew this place was not going to be traditional but it was a fun twist! Food was flavorful and spicy. We got the mala wings which were delicious and have that tongue numbing heat I love. Chinatown dumplings were good but I felt the dumpling wrapper was a bit too thick for me. Recently had an opportunity to try MAKfam for lunch. I was excited to give this place a try after so much hype on the foodie scene. We had the Chinatown dumplings which were delicious, for the size and price, it left me a little wanting and I should have ordered two. We also had the fancy wonton tong which in both the Chinatown and fancy wonton you could tell that the ingredients used were super fresh. I personally didn't like the sauce for the fancy wonton tong as much as I would have liked to. Again for the price, there was very little of the order. Lastly we tried the crab and cheese which is not like a normal crab and cheese wonton. First, be careful because it's hot and at risk of burning your mouth, second it's way sweeter than other options like this. I enjoyed them, but definitely not what I expected. Overall a fun option if you're near Broadway, but make sure to order multiple things to feel full! Service was good, the location was nice and had enough seating for a lunch time on a Saturday. The lighting was a little tough but that's just this time of year with the sun hitting a southern facing building. read more

Ambience: first off, it is hard to find. Signage is subtle. It is next door to the Quayle Hotel, which does have a visible sign. Then there is parking, which can be a mild challenge in this busy location. Lots of street sweeping rules and local owner/renter parking only. We parked about 2 blocks west of the restaurant on 1st Ave (legal only on the south side of 1st Ave.) The restaurant has only recently opened and is very clean and shiny with bright lights. Service: was rather confusing for us today. Order at the counter but you have to identify your table# if you are sitting in a booth. We could not figure out our table # and that resulted in some confusion when they eventually delivered our food. We were asked if we wanted a refill on our iced tea and were mildly surprised when that cost us another $14. Food: Very different, very good. Dumplings and Mala wings each worth a try. Wings have moderate heat from the interesting and tasty Chinese spices on their crispy surface. Sizzling spicy noodles were not sizzling but had moderate spice and we enjoyed them. The spice left a metallic taste in my mouth. Salt and Pepper chicken rice plate was one of our favorites- less spice than the other items we ordered and chicken was cooked nicely, again with Chinese spices and a couple of dipping sauces. Overall: this is a fun place to try, unique among the Chinese restaurants we have visited in the Denver area. It is brand new. We hope they work out some of the minor kinks we found today. read more

We went on mozzarella stick Monday and tragically they had run out of mozzarella sticks! First the good: sauce work was pretty solid, so I am not sure why the seasoning and flavor stopped there on almost every dish we ordered. The salt and pepper tofu seemed to have neither, nor did the rice or anything else in that dish. The tiny dish of sauces with the tofu was delicious but not nearly enough to make up for there being no seasoning in the dish. The scallion pancakes had a nice texture and a great sauce, but without flavor on their own. The food at MAKfam is really good. Lots of great flavors and the right amount of options from small to big bites. We absolutely loved the cocktails, too. The staff was really friendly and managed the packed restaurant well. There were some snags with how long a few dishes took to come out. My main criticism for the restaurant are the stools. The seat of the stools are very small and I felt like I was falling out of them the whole time. And now, the next day, my legs are actually sore from this! The majority of the seats in the place are these tiny butt stools. There are a couple of tables but they were marked reserved. So note if you aren't a tiny little thing, you might struggle to be comfortable. read more
