I'm already excited to try this place again. Everything we tried was wonderful. We started with a complimentary sticky rice and ordered the favorites sampler. The sampler gave us a chance to try four different items and came paired with four sauces. The meatball was probably the table majority favorite. There was also some meat wrapped in fried rice paper, that was my personal favorite. We were there in time for brunch and that was the highlight for me. Coconut chicken on top of a pandan waffle with coconut syrup. YUM!!!! French toast with flambé bananas and syrup, also YUM!!! There are quite a few options in that area, this is definitely a top choice
I used to come here all the time almost 8 years ago. I've returned three times in 2 weeks since I've returned. Loved their food. Their food is still delicious. It's homey and not drenched in oils and other heavy sauces. They start with their sticky rice and eggplant dip. Their peach iced tea is spot on for the Dallas heat. I've had their lunch specials and always spot on. Food portions are generous.
Thai Eggs Benedict, Spring Rolls, Imperial Rolls Never tried the brunch menu here, and it was such a fun one to try! The Thai eggs Benedict were so tasty and fun with the coconut biscuit! Such an interesting twist on eggs Benedict with great Thai flavors. The spring rolls and imperial rolls were yummy too
Very good service. Very good food. It did not take us long to get seated. The server was there quickly to take our order. They brew their beers in house and they are very good. I would try the Dopplebock. They have good Thai tea and other drinks that are so good. The sticky rice amuse bûche is actually quite tasty. The pineapple fried rice is really good. You can tell they use fresh pineapple versus canned pineapples. The drunken noodles were absolutely amazing, it will probably be the thing I get next time I'm there. A friend of mine got the Seabass noodle dish, but didn't love it. They offered to give her drunken noodles to take home and didn't charge us for the Seabass, which was kind. The restaurant and servers in general are just very accommodating and made sure that everyone was taken care of. And if you have room for dessert, please get the mango sticky rice. Theirs is so fresh and delicious and you should save room!
I popped in here recently to get out of the rain and was delighted with the ambiance. Everything was decorated in warm orange candlelit tones. This is a Thai restaurant, but they have a FULL menu of Tiki drinks which look outstanding. I wasn't in the mood for something boozy, so I tried an iced coffee. The bartender is a genuine pro... he mixed up a coconut inspired coffee drink for me on the fly, complete with fancy garnish. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Uptown to try more on their menu.
The menu had plenty of options that sounded amazing! Came on a Saturday and was able to order off of the brunch menu! The Thai chicken and waffles were the right choice! The servers were very attentive and the restaurant decor was nice! Would go back again to try some of the noodle dishes next!
Stopped by Malai Kitchen after a cold one-mile walk during "Dalaska 2026" and it was the perfect warm-up spot. The Thai lemongrass soup was comforting, and the tuna tartare really hit the spot after a serious craving for something lime-y and spicy. Friendly staff and always a solid experience.
I tried the Burmese tea leaf salad and was not a fan- I've had it from a Burmese restaurant previously and this was a terrible version. The drunken noodles are the way to go if you're unsure of what to order. The restaurant is in a great location, there is free parking and the ambience is nice but casual.
Malai Kitchen was such a great weeknight find. We walked over to West Village after a stroll on the Katy Trail. ATMOSPHERE: Warm, modern, and inviting without feeling pretentious. The space has a lively energy but still feels comfortable for conversation. It is perfect for a casual date night or dinner with friends after work. FOOD: The highlight for us was the appetizer sampler, which was an excellent value compared to ordering individual apps. It gave us a chance to try a variety of flavors and textures, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared and well-balanced, coming with two of each of their most popular apps for $18. SERVICE: Friendly and knowledgeable, though a bit slow at times. Nothing that detracted too much from the experience, but it is worth knowing if you are in a rush. PARKING: Surprisingly easy for Uptown. There is a large free garage nearby, which makes the whole experience much less stressful. Overall, Malai Kitchen is a solid choice for a relaxed weeknight dinner with great food and a convenient location. Minor service delays aside, it is a place we would happily walk back to again, especially for that sampler!
Malai Kitchen was not one of my more memorable meals this year. The service was good. However, the curry was not. I asked several questions about the menu before I ordered. I've eaten at ALOT of Thai restaurants around the world. Chicken with red curry is pretty much the same (give or take the spice intensity). I'm not sure why it was so complicated at Malai Kitchen but I did ask if coconut milk was in it. I did want the typical dish that does have coconut milk in it. They reassured me that it would have it in it. The dish came out and the sauce tasted almost like yellow curry with a tang to it. It was not the same. I'm not sure why it tasted this way and I'm not one to send food back (I really dont like sending food back!!) However, I couldn't eat it. It was inedible. It did not taste like it had any coconut. The restaurant accommodated me and asked me if I would like something else. I ordered soup. It was better.
Malai Ktichen offers up a Thai/Indian and more fusion array of dishes that are perfectly seasoned, balanced, and curated for even the pickiest of eaters. My friends and I ordered the vegetable samosas, red curry with side of fried rice, roti for starters. For drink, I ordered the Iced Vietnamese Coconut Coffee and it was one of the best Vietnamese coffees I've ever had. It wasn't too sweet but perfectly blended with the coconut and espresso flavors, with shaved coconut flakes added on top. For main dishes, I ordered the Chiang Mai Noodles with shrimp, which came in a green coconut curry sauce. The noodles were good and there was a large helping of fried wontons for garnish. My friend ordered the drunken noodles and they were very tasty and flavorful. Overall, service was a bit slow, but the food was worth the wait. I definitely would come again and try more of their noodle dishes and their mango sticky rice for dessert,
Had bookmarked this restaurant and am happy to have tried Malai Kitchen. The restaurant was quite busy for the evening but we were seated immediately as we walked in. Service was outstanding from the get go. They have a full service bar with good options of beer, wine, sake, spirits and cocktails. Enjoyed the house IPA and will recommend it. Sticky rice with sauce was served as a complimentary appetizer while we ordered the starter and main course. The shrimp spring rolls was a good starter and the Bangkok Street Fried Rice and Glass Noodles were excellent entrees. The flavors were great and the spice levels were as ordered. The ambience of the restaurant is cosy and modern. Mall and street parking available. Pricing: Moderate high but there's good value for money.

I've been dying to try this place out for a long time, and I'm glad we ran into it spontaneously driving through West Village. The birthday girl hadn't had Thai food before so we had to check it out for her. There's a big bar are when you enter, and the drinks looked amazing, but sadly I didn't make it in time for happy hour. Literally made it 5 minutes AFTER, womp womp. Oh well, next time. My bday girl and I shared the Sweet and Sour Crispy Noodles, which included shrimp, tofu, and chicken in a bed of thin, crispy egg noodles and also topped with an assortment of veggies and sauces. Sadly, this wasn't as "sweet and sour-y" tasting as I'd prefer it to be. But we both did enjoy it, still. I'm just so happy the Thai food-virgin loved it, so expanding friends' taste bud horizons is always a plus! Next time, I'll probably try a curry dish. My friend had the vegan version of the Iron Pot Green Curry with substituted tofu and that was delish! Savory and flavorful and it came with a ton of sauce and tofu, so there's a lot to eat/share. I love curries, and this green curry did not go wrong! A tad pricey for something of this size, but we ARE in West Village. Outside seating was available, but it seemed too muggy outside when we ate here, so we got a comfy booth right by the kitchen. The staff here are so nice, and our server was AMAZING. She explained everything in so much detail that I couldn't even keep even 80% of the ingredients she listed in my active memory. When my friend needed vegetarian arrangements in her dish, she was patient enough to tell her her favorites and how the chef will limit the oils and everything to the pristine detail. This is by no means a complete review because we only got an appetizer while waiting for family to arrive, but what we did have was delicious. Our service was lovely and we were offered a complimentary sticky rice since it was our first time. The sticky rice came with this eggplant mash of sorts. The eggplant was so flavorful I could have eaten a whole bowl. We ordered the tuna spring roll and this was quite possibly one of my favorite foods of the trip. The tuna was seared rare and the roll was crunchy and fresh! If we're ever back in Dallas I would totally come and check out more of the menu! Highly recommend! read more
I saw The owner of the restaurant compete against Bobby Flay making green curry. Coincidently, i had a meeting in Dallas the following week. I convinced a handful of colleagues to join me for dinner and this place did not disappoint. The decor and ambiance, the craft cocktails, the service and the food were impeccable. We decided we loved so much on the menu, we would order a variety of food. We started with the chicken wings, mussels, Fried shishito peppers, and the Thai tacos! All of them were delicious. Asking me to pick one is like suggesting I have a favorite child. They offer gave us complimentary sticky rice rolled in banana leaves and served with an eggplant dipping sauce that was superb. Following our appetizers, we ordered several entrees to share. All were delicious...drunken noodles, lemongrass chicken, vermicelli salad, and the green curry. Surprisingly the lemongrass chicken was my favorite, it was so flavorful. The green curry is beautiful! For dessert we had to try the mango sticky rice. The best I have ever had! Besides the fact the food, Yasmin, the owner is extremely nice. She came to our table and told us it the history about the Restaurant. The food here is soo good. We got the shrimp spring rolls (the best ones i've ever had and i've had a lot), fried imperial rolls, shrimp pad thai, sweet and sour vegetable soup, and the mango sticky rice smash. All of it was AMAZING. I would definitely recommend getting any of those. I also wanted to add that the quality is the same even when ordering delivery or take out. Came here for dinner, and got the green curry chicken. My friend asked for spicy and y'all... it was not spicy but salty af... I got the same thing... it was so salty :( and I don't understand why ppl hype it up so much but we also got the iron pot juggle shrimp thing. Tasted pretty good! And their pho tasted good! Came in during the first "real" coldfront of the season and they were out of beef pho which was disappointing! But I got the chicken instead and it was delicious! It comes with the chives, parsley and bean sprouts already in the bowl and you can add optional basil, jalapeños, sauce, and lime. I asked for some extra jalapeños and they brought me some spicy peppers ground up that were sooooo good but VERY spicy if you just stick it straight in your mouth! Will definitely be back! read more
Stopped by for the first time for their Vietnamese street food pop up! 50 cents for a pint of beer? Yes, please. For those who are curious, Bia Hoi beer is one of the cheapest Vietnamese beers ever. Not sure about the price actually in Vietnamese but wouldn't be surprised if the exchange rate makes it 50 cents USD. Tastes really refreshing and almost with a citrusy flavor. Shared only one dish (lemongrass chicken with rice $9) but the flavors were really good. A toss between authentic and fusion, but they seem to know what they're doing in that kitchen! One thing that I didn't like about the pop up were the "seats" on the patio. While I understand that it's supposed to mimic the streets of Vietnam, the plastic tables and chairs literally could only seat five-year-olds comfortably. Very very very good! Hubby and I went around lunch time on a Thursday and we were the first ones there. Very clean and trendy on the inside. We were greeted with many smiling faces. The free sticky rice appetizer is yummy...but cmon...why give us only 1 to share? It's the size of a saltine cracker! I ordered the drunken noodles with medium heat. It tasted more like they dumped an entire bottle of cayenne pepper on it. I can't imagine what the hot tastes like. Very flavorful...portion was perfect...not too much...not to little My husband got the wings and chicken soup...the wings are BOMB! Oh my goodness and boy are the big. The garlic and other sweet spices really come together in this appetizer. I didn't try his soup. It looked watery but he said it was very good ! Fresh food...fresh look to this place. Great prices. It was more like a 2.5, but the overall 4 stars they have is so misleading. - Plenty of seating inside on a dreary, rainy evening, but without asking us our preference, the hostess led us outside to the muggy, covered patio, presumably because of my kid. We were seated within reach of a rowdy table enjoying the perks of Happy Hour, which looked like a great time, except when everyone on that patio, including said kid, can hear every foul word and topic. Nothing against those people, but shouldn't a hostess have a little more situational awareness than that? - See photo for Happy Hour appetizer specials. 2 for $9. We tried everything except the Spicy Edamame. The wings were decent; Imperial Rolls were ok, as were the meat patties; the chicken satay tasted mostly of burnt turmeric so I didn't even try the pork one. Between 3 adults and 1 child, we were almost full, with room for dessert. + Coconut Cake was large and luscious! It came highly recommended by our server, and for good reason. $8 I see that many people enjoy their entrees, but when the appetizers aren't very appetizing, I find it hard to believe that the dishes are delicious. read more

The pho was disgusting, I didn't like the thai basil which ruined the whole thing. I tried another plate and that had the same basil taste in it. The only thing I did like was the sticky rice because it had no flavor. read more

Malai never lets me down. Every single thing that I've tasted on the menu has been so good. One thing that I will faithfully get every time is the chicken wings. They are very consistent with the flavor, it's a must have for sure. The Vietnamese iced coffee is a favorite of mine as well, I am a cocktail drinker but when I am here I have to get the coffee with condensed milk. I love Malai. A date introduced me to this place, but since then, I've brought my parents, my roommates, visiting friends, etc. I'll take everyone who is willing to go. Service - 4.5/5: I took half a point off because the one time I made a reservation through yelp for here, their system was broken and so I had to wait an extra 20 min for a table. They were very accommodating though and worked hard to get a table for us as quickly as possible. But otherwise, service is top notch across the board. The servers are so friendly, attentive, and almost always at hand. Sometimes when it's a bit busy, you can lose sight of your waiter, but generally that doesn't happen. Depending where you sit, it can get a little loud and you can be a little out of the way, but usually that's not a problem since Food - 5/5: The food here is amazing. Malai is honestly one of my top go-to restaurants in Dallas. The green curry is my favorite, along with the wing appetizers. The wings are the perfect amount of crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. And the sauce is powerful but not slathered, which I love. The sticky rice you get as a complimentary appetizer is also not bad, although the rice could use some help. The eggplant puree though is delicious. A little spicy, but so flavorful. I love eggplant, so I'm biased. I've also had friends recommend the shrimp pad thai. Although I don't think there have been much complaints about the menu in general anytime I went. Drink menu is also fun and extensive. Recommend the mule - it's the perfect blend of a strong bang-for-your-buck drink that still tastes delicious. Location - 5/5: It's in West Village, which is an area I love, and there's conveniently garage parking right by the restaurant, and it's free which is always a plus. Street parking is usually pretty common too, especially later at night when the shoppers are gone. The ambience on the inside is a little crowded and frenzied, but the outdoor seating is spacious and nice. A little for everyone. One random thing - the floors are super slippery by the bathroom haha. I guess I should chalk some of it up to the shoes I was wearing, but generally every time I've been here, I've had to be careful around that area. Tip: The green curry is all it's cracked up to be and more. But the real tip is to come during happy hour and get their appetizers deal and get two orders of the wings. Came here for brunch on a Sunday, and I loved that it wasn't super crowded! They also have a dog-friendly patio, so I'll be sure to bring the pup next time. We ordered a couple of $3 mimosas, the fried imperial rolls and thai chicken wings (appetizers were 2 for $9), and the bahn mi french toast and thai eggs benedict for our entrees. The imperial rolls were not too good--the fried crispy rice paper wrapping were more just hard than crispy. The chicken wings and the entrees were all super tasty though. And the coconut biscuits that were the base for the eggs benedict? SO good. The two entrees that we ordered definitely seemed the most interesting on the menu; nothing else sounded particularly good. Went here for Sunday brunch. We received a complimentary dish of sticky rice, wrapped in bamboo leaf with a side of eggplant sauce. Loved the sauce. So here's what we ordered: Vietnamese Iced Coffee - $3 - not too sweet, but had enough kick. I'm a fan! Vietnamese "Meatballs" (Xiu Mai) $6 - tasted like "thit nuong" or bbq pork that normally goes in banh mi. (By the way, I noticed their Banh Mi are priced at $7 (add $2 for pate or egg). Kinda ridiculous as most are $2.50-$3.50 each, with a $1 egg add-on. Thai Chicken Wings (Peek Gai Nam Daeng) $6 - we ordered it "spicy." It may look spicy, but it was more sweet to me. It wasn't spicy at all, actually. I ate several slices of jalapenos and even those weren't spicy. Parts of the wings (the drumstick portion) were overcooked/tough/dry although the outside was marinaded pretty nicely. Thai Eggs Benedict $ 11 Decent. They used a coconut biscuit, which is different. I substituted pork instead of the shrimp. Pork was on the sweet side. I've stated in several of my reviews that I don't like my meat sweet, so the dish was just okay to me. I do notice that this is a really popular dish during brunch though. Fried Rice "Over Easy" $9 - this is probably my favorite dish from what we ordered that day. It was good! Fried rice is always good. Red Curry Georges Bank Cod $17 - although the cod was cooked perfectly, the saltiness was overpowering and we couldn't taste the curry much. The rice comes already in the soup so if you don't like mushy/soggy rice with your curry dish, you won't like it. You can probably ask that the rice be served on the side? For dessert---mango sticky rice. This dish (beautifully displayed) comes in a half coconut shell with dried coconut shavings as décor. I tried eating it, by the way. Not recommended. The mango and coconut cream was delish (just enough sweetness)! Wish they gave more sticky rice. The dish also has rice crispies for a crunch. Unfortunately ours were crumbled and floated around the coconut cream by the time they brought out the dish. Portion was really small too. I do enjoy dining at Asian fusion restaurants and I would to say I'm a fan of Malai Kitchen. Love the outside seating during nice weather. Prices (most items) are decent. Although most of our dishes were just okay I will definitely consider coming back to try other items. Service was great. read more

I absolutely loved Malai Kitchen. When I first heard of the concept; I was a bit skeptical. Thai/Vietnamese for brunch? Definitely worth a try though. I have now been to Malai Kitchen three times in the past 2 weeks...no I am not ashamed. I am proud to be a Malai Kitchen lover! On my first visit I had the Atlantic Char with extra veggies instead of rice. The flavor on this dish is incredible! The seared veggies have a light soy sauce glaze and the fish is perfectly cooked. I had never personally had Char before but it is a very light and yummy fish. The second time I dined here I had the Char again...because well...it was insane the first time. Yes, it was just as good on the second. My third visit takes the cake though...figurative cake...I tried the over easy fried rice mild. The flavor in this is incredible as well! The sticky rice and eggplant dip appetizer is delicious as well. The mimosas are heavy on the champagne and easy on the hand squeezed OJ which is ok with me. All of my serving staff was attentive and friendly. I was seated quickly even during rush brunch hours. My only sad point was that the bathroom in the area that I was in only has one stall so there was a bit of a wait but I found out that there is another set of bathrooms by the kitchen. We have been here a few times and this is a place we'll continue to visit. The atmosphere is nice, you can choose outdoor seating as well and the food is amazing along with the service. Ordered fried rice and drunken noodle via yelp. Food came in about 35 minutes after ordering. For me, food was over seasoned. Flavor and freshness of ingredients were okay. I can tell they don't use frozen vegetables for the fried rice because of under cooked crunch diced carrots in the rice. I prefer to have under cooked vegetables instead of frozen stuff. Will try again, with asking less salted. read more
Malai has a great reputation around the DFW area, and for good reason! After our second visit last night, I'm now confident all 5 stars are appropriate and well deserved. First, the fare is flavorful, typically coming in mild, medium or VERY spicy so that everyone can enjoy. Our favorite items currently are the tuna tartare and the drunken noodles with beef and shrimp. The soups and salads are always tasty and fresh, but FYI the cucumber salad is more of your standard salad (lettuce, carrot and other stuff) with cucumbers on top, not JUST cucumbers. We always have impeccable service and especially loved sitting at the bar with a really knowledgeable and friendly bartender serving us. Wish we had caught his name. He knew all the specials and how they were prepared and we even ordered one because of his recommendation and loved it. They were corn cakes with a ton of herbs and spices and the best teriyaki dipping sauce ever. Finally - awesome beer selection for all you craft beer junkies out there. Their head brewer was one of the first in DFW to brew NEIPA's! Can't wait to go back!!! read more

We came here based on reviews on yelp and we were not disappointed! The food was really good, very well flavored. We first got the veggie samosas, we were surprised to see Indian starters here but we trued them and they were pretty good! The winner was the drunken noodles. I got them with shrimp but you can substitute for other meats or tofu. I got it medium spicy but I did end up adding their homemade sriracha to make it spicier, and it worked really well with the noodles. It was reasonably priced too, especially in such a nice area. This place was packed last night and we waited for a while even with reservations made in advance. Bar service was super slow, but the drinks were good and unique. Food was large portions and well plated but lacking in flavor. I got the chicken pad thai that looked visually appealing but really lacked in flavor. I didn't get any sense of an authentic pad thai taste. My friends got the coconut soup which they thought was good as well as the massaman lamb shank. Overall, we thought the drinks were worth coming back for, the food not so much. Plus it's super loud and crowded, it was hard enough trying to have a conversation over dinner with all the noise including the overhead playing music that made it worse. read more

We were in from out of town shopping, looking for a good place to eat, and we found it! Our waitress was very knowledgeable and helped us make our choices. I had the chicken pad Thai which was amazing, husband had the shrimp pad Thai, and our girls had the kids shrimp tempura with the shrimp chips. My boys aren't quite as adventurous so they chose to just eat side of eggs (scrambled) but the sticky mango rice was a hit with EVERYONE! Service was top notch. 10/10 highly recommend! read more
