We came by for lunch on a weekday and it was already quite crowded with a bunch of older folks dining in. It felt like a kind of seat yourself at whatever table is empty given that the waitress (who was manning the register and taking dine in and phone orders) was quite busy. We ordered the chicken satay, chow kueh teow kway teoh and fried pearl noodles. For dine in, they also gave a kettle of tea and tea cups. There was a chef in charge of all the grilled dishes by the entrance so our chicken satay came out first. The seasoning they used on it had just the right amount of curry flavor and it was super tender too. The most tender chicken skewer I've ever had. It came with a side of peanut dipping sauce which added a nutty flavor to the chicken satay. Next came the chow keuh teow dish and we could smell the wok hei right away. This was definitely one of the favorites of the table and a must try! The star of the dish was actually the smoky wok hei flavor of the rice noodles (there were pieces of small shrimp, chicken and pork as well). The portion size of one dish is more than enough for 2 people to share. The last dish to come out were the fried pearl river noodles. They added some char siu to the noodles which added a nice flavor to the dish. It didn't have quite as strong of a wok hei flavor as the other dish but still pretty good! The pearl river noodles had the same texture as eating the tapioca balls in bubble tea. The space inside the restaurant is pretty small and any seat is fine (maybe except the one right by the door since it can get cold during winter time and the one by the register which is also next to the bathroom). I think they accept card but for these types of small mom and pop shops, it might be best to pay in cash. I'll definitely be back and have to give the bbq skate fish and one of their curry dishes a try next time! read more

Disappointing food quality and dismissive service Took my daughter here for a treat and left feeling frustrated and honestly a little worried about what we ate. We ordered fried noodles, a noodle soup, and Chinese spinach. The spinach was visibly old, dry, and stale -- completely inedible. The noodle soup had an off taste, as if some ingredients weren't fresh. When I flagged this to the wait staff, I was flat-out ignored. No apology, no offer to replace anything, nothing. To add insult to injury, the spinach -- the dish we couldn't eat -- was priced the same as both noodle dishes combined. That's hard to justify for a vegetable side, let alone a spoiled one. At checkout, staff pressured us to leave an 18% tip, citing their low wages. I understand tipped workers have it tough, but a tip is earned through good food and service -- neither of which we received here. I'm reporting the food quality concern to the NYC Department of Health. I'd encourage others to be cautious, especially if dining with kids. read more

Malay is definitely one of the old hidden gems in flushing. Despite it being around for so long, not too many people know about it. We got the Cheong Fun, Roti Canai, and the Curry Chicken. As usual, the Roti Canai is a classic and really hard to get wrong, it tasted just like it should. The Cheong Fun and the Curry were very flavorful and had a nice kick. I went to an UYE here on 11/16/25, organized by Yelp Elite Andie. My favorite menu selections were the Sweet and Spicy Tofu, the PI-PA Duck and the Eggplant with Shredded Pork and Salted Fish. The Okra and Belachan Shrimp was a satisfying comfort food. My least favorite selection was the Satay Chicken with Peanut Sauce, the Beef Rendang and the Tom Yum (Seafood Curry Soup). The service was spectacular on a table that seated eight people. Our waitress frequently came to our table, delivering us food and drink. I was impressed when she provided us clean plates when we finished eating our first several menu selections. This restaurant is definitely a must for parties. On 11/16 I attended a wonderful UYE family style diner with 8 other people at my table and about 8 more at another table. So this restaurant maybe small but it's big enough to cater groups. The staff was overly kind, at all times, serving our 2 tables and not letting other groups lack for anything. I was honored to sit with a fantastic group of VIP's and break bread. We've been there before, and it seems like the prices have gone up. Typical, nothing special, small "chinese" feel type restaurant. I ordered a roast pork and chicken with rice which was OK. I think I enjoyed my meal more than my wife who had the chicken with rice. She said she went back there for the roti. This is a hole in the wall Malaysian place that has been here for decades. Upon entry you are faced with a small door way where you see the small fish and roti are made. You enter another door and see that the place looks worn down with very simple tables and seating. You are seated and they bring tea to the table. The place are usually known only by locals and can be busy during meal time. After taking few minutes we ordered the typical known Malaysian dishes. Highly recommended are the Hainanese chicken, squid with watercress in peanut sauce and the beef flank curry. Other dishes recommended are roti, satay, & taro basket which to my disappointment they did not have in this night. It took them a little bit of time and every dish arrived as it finished preparing. The flavor are deep, fragrant and varied. Definitely get chicken broth rice or coconut rice with the dishes. They have some amazing skewers! I've never tasted chicken skewers this good before! They have some cucumbers and raw onions on the side, along with a nutty sauce to dip your skewers in. I've been here a handful of times with a group and heavily prefer this over the other closest Malaysian spot, Satay. Yes this place is a bit divey, and yes, it could be a bit cleaner, but the food here is outstanding especially for certain dishes. The prices have gone up over the years but then again, every place has gotten more expensive so it comes with them trying to stay in business. I would say in general that the curry dishes, the seafood dishes, and the pia pia duck are the stars here while the noodles are better in some other spots such as Curry House in Manhattan and at Coco in Elmhurst. We have had the following dishes and then some- Beef Rendang- this is easily my favorite version of the "dry style" rendang in the city. The beef is extremely tender, just spicy enough for a kick but not too much to overpower, and has just enough sweetness. I know the price of this dish keeps on going up but I will order this or insist others order this regardless of how much it goes up by as it is that good. If you're going to go here, order this without exception. As someone who loves rendang, I love this version (though for the wet version, go to Coco.) Pi-Pa Duck- We got a whole this time and have gotten a half or whole other times. The duck hasn't always been the most consistent in quality but when it's good, it's outstanding here and even the just okay versions are still tasty. Very tender duck though perhaps a little bit too much sweet sauce on the bottom. BBQ Skate Fish- Very tasty version of this uncommon fish. You can order a large or small and the large is plenty big with a lot of tender meat. Said fish is served with sambal to add a bit of a spicy kick. I'd recommend this also. I would also recommend similarly the Belacan Crispy Fish which I believe is made with tilapia which is a little bit more and also excellent. Okra & Belacan Shrimp- Solid version though I prefer other spots which have a stronger belacan/shrimp paste flavor such as Coco. Still tasty and the okra is cooked better than most other places. Eggplant With Shredded Pork & Salted Fish- Very solid version of this Cantonese casserole classic. Eggplant had a solid texture though it could have been a bit more salted but the pork was nice Seafood Curry Stew- Unfortunately contains squid so I only tried a very little bit of the broth which had a good coconut flavor and a bit of spice being reminiscent of a curry laksa though not as shrimpy. Bak Kut Teh- I ordered this once as I couldn't eat several of the dishes as I wasn't expecting there to be squid. It was a bit less herbal than the rare occasion I've had this prior being almost a bit more ginger forward but there was a good amount of tender meat especially for the small size. I felt like this would be perfect on a cold winter day. Hainanese Rice- wouldn't really recommend the substitution. I prefer the food in general here pretty heavily to Satay but the rice here is worse. It's fluffy but it lacks the strong scallion flavor I expect from said rice. Was nice that they didn't charge us for this. I hope this place stays in business though I'm not exactly sure how long it will. What this restaurant lacks in space and decor/atmosphere is made up for by the attentive and helpful staff, and flavorful dishes! I honestly didn't know what to expect other than my party ate everything family style, which I like. The dishes were unique, well-prepared, and made my taste buds happy! I first found the hole-in-the-wall/hidden gem spot years ago and finally doing a review on it now. Since then, I've come here several times introducing various friends to this underrated Malaysian spot to which they all love as well. The main reason I find myself coming back is: 1) the price is super fair. Even with inflation and rising cost in foods all around NYC, they manage to keep their prices low. You can spend around $20 with a fairly cheap entree and appetizers and get really full. 2) My favorite: Curry Chicken Noodles. The first time I had this dish, I loved it! The flavors of this warm curry with the good portion of noodles hit the spot for me! That first memory makes me come back each time. This is my order almost everytime along with appetizers to share with friends. 3) You don't have so many Malaysian spots around Flushing as it's filled with so many other asian cuisines. We had the Malaysian Lobak and the Malaysia cheong fun w curry sauce, which was enough for my parents and I, but if you have a larger appetite, you may want to order one more dish. The cheong fun is my favorite and I keep coming back to this restaurant just for it. Huge plate of cheong fun noodles with a stuffed pepper, eggplant, and tofu, with some dried tofu skin in curry sauce/soup. The Malaysian lobak was decent, but not revolutionary. My family and I frequent this place a lot now that it's the only Malay restaurant on the block since Curry Leaves left. We usually have a good experience but our most recent visit wasn't up to par. Popped in around 3pm on a Friday night so there wasn't a lot of wait and immediately got seated. Our server came across and served the hot tea per usual but when it came time to taking orders, they forgot a couple of items we had ordered...which is fine because by the end of the meal, we were already full and decided to cancel the items. I ordered the Assam Laksa, Char Kueh Teow, Satay, Taro Bowl and some other items to go. I loved my Assam Laska - it's what you would expect. Bit sour but has bits of fish at the bottom and pineapple. I forgot how much I missed this and can't seem to get the flavour right myself so this is the place to go! Taro basket is always a favorite.. so crispy with every bite and has the perfect amount of ingredients to complement it. Satay was also great - no complaints there. No frill kind of place.. service is alright. The chef in the back did come out and check on us to see how the food was.
