Shun Won is my favorite spot for Cantonese food in Flushing. I love their roast pig - it has just the right amount of seasoning, and the skin is always crispy. The congee here is perfect. Their roast meats are generally well done and most of the dishes out properly cooked. On my most recent visit, we ordered a plate of Crispy Roast Pig and roast duck, which were both quite delicious. Pork w/ Thousand Year Egg Congee was one of the better ones around the area. Somewhat thicker than I prefer, but tons of stuff and quite flavorful. I would say that the Shrimp w/ Egg Sauce on Rice was pretty decent too. On the downside, the Fried Fish Fillet w/ Bean Curd was not what I hoped for. While the bean curd was cooked well with plenty of flavor, the fish had a thick batter and over fried, not tender at all. Another underwhelming dish was the bland tasting Dry Sautéed String Bean. Food is good, service isn't. I came in the afternoon, it's not busy so it's just one waiter. I sat down as a party of one, the waiter put down their pot of complimentary tea then immediately asked me what I want to order as he's handing me the menu. I asked if I can look at the menu first. I ordered a bowl of the preserved egg/pork congee and a bowl of wonton soup. The food came quickly, maybe 1-2min. The waiter then proceeded to bend down close to my face (too close for comfort) and asked me in Chinese if I can finish the food or not. His mandarin is a bit hard to understand so I was a bit perplexed if I misheard the question and asked him again then he turned to leave and literally waved me off with his arms (ok..?) Food was hot and excellent. Each wonton piece had large pieces of shrimp in it. Overall delicious and yes I finished it! I haven't finished my wonton soup yet when the waiter puts the bill down on the table without me asking for it (what's the rush??). Price came out to be $15.75 for the 2 bowls. I was actually thinking of getting half of the scallion oil chicken to go. I asked him if I can order through him or by the meats counter he said he can do it and added the price to the receipt which now came out to be $31.75. I waited a few more min, he asked me if I wanted the tea pointing to the tea pot I said yes please leave it...he then pours me a cup and takes away the entire pot like he's protecting it from me, like what?! I was fuming by now but he came back to tell me like I can't read that my total is $35 (he said that bc he wants to make sure I'm clear to leave a tip...also when and what have I done to make him think I'm not tipping, I have never dined in without tipping less than 18% regardless of service...). I have been to this spot multiple times in the past - usually ordering take out. Today, my boyfriend and I decided to eat inside. I ordered one congee and one steamed rice roll with beef while he ordered a beef chow fun. The server mistakenly put an order for two congees for me and when I let her know it was a mistake when the food arrived, she not only insisted I asked for 2, but also put the blame on me when the kitchen asked what happened. If you like roasted meat like roasted pork belly, roasted duck, roasted pork or soy sauced chicken, this is your place. If you want some thing plain you can go for congee with beef, chicken, seafood, fish filet, shrimp ball, liver or pork with thousand-year egg. My top selections are pork with thousand-year egg and fish filet congee with fried bread. Their steam rice wrap or roll and wonton soup are exceptional tasty as well! I'm born and raised in Flushing and this is hands down one of the best sit down/take out spots you can go to. The inside is clean and there's plenty of tables to sit down and order at. They also have a great takeout station. Although the wait staff didn't speak much English, and I don't speak any dialects of Chinese , we were still able to communicate very easily :) Food is great, service is great and the location of it being right next to the library is always a plus! I tried the super sized soup dumpling and the entire thing was soup and no meat. You'd have to hunt to find any meat and you may find a few pieces of ground pork, maybe. I was hoping for a super sized soup dumpling with equal parts meat and soup. This was basically a soup dish. I didn't eat the doughy wrapper as it was pretty thick. The stir fried udon noodles were decent. The general gau's chicken was so expensive and you don't get much. Its also not the crispy type of chicken...more of chicken stir fry with sauce. Can't give five stars because I don't know how their in-house service was and I haven't tried all of the options there, only ordered food to go. We ordered roast pork and duck and boy were they good, family and I destroyed all of it the second we opened the container! I read a review somewhere that the workers were rude, but from my family and my experience, they were normal and took our order when it was our turn to go up. I was looking for some Chinese BBQ in the area and that's when my friend recommended Shun Won. I stopped in to pick up some dinner on a Saturday at around 6. There were a few people dining in and a consistent flow of customers coming into order their cha siew over rice. I was definitely ordering the cha siew and also hoping to get some siew yook but they were already sold out at that time. My next choice was the roast duck, which they were also sold out of. So I ended up getting my cha siew, and order of the chicken/salted fish fried rice, and beef chow fun. The cha siew was really good. Sometimes it can be dry but this was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The rice could use some work though. The salted fish was VERY fishy (think fish food fishy) but overall, the dish was still bland. Chow fun was pretty standard. I'd probably come back if I'm in the area but wouldn't go out of my way to do so. read more

The food is classic Cantonese food - congee, dim sum, rice with meat, noodle soup, etc. Conveniently located right next to the library. Parking can be hard to find. Inside, the restaurant is reasonably spaced out so you can sit down and enjoy a meal or simply order. It's more of a restaurant meant for a quick bite or a quick lunch meal than a nice get-together. Service wise -- old school Cantonese. While they can speak Mandarin, they are fluent in Cantonese. The service is pretty much yelling at the employees about what you ordered. It's normal. It's not friendly, but it gets the point across. The guy at the front taking orders is much more friendly compared to the stern woman with an upset look on her face. I normally come here for their congee (seafood, a thousand-year-old egg with pork, boiled fish, or boiled chicken (for my sister)) with fried dough. You cannot go wrong with the congee here. We recently checked out their dim sum selection, which is quite affordable. Shrimp rice noodles and other rice noodles were $3 for a container. The rice dishes are also good. An oldie but a goodie, that about sums up Shun Won when I think of it. It's been around for a while (my family has gone here for years, even the same location when it used to be a different restaurant) and we regularly drop by when passing through for some staples. If you're looking for Cantonese food, this is a great place to go. There's a lot on their menu and I certainly haven't eaten through it but we come back for our favorites. Congee. Let's start there, they literally have huge vats on the side bubbling away to dish this out quickly during both busy and off peak times. You can come and get several varieties (we like pork with thousand year old egg and my mom likes the combination of beef, pork, and squid congee). Spoiler alert, the thousand year old egg is not that old it's just a preserved duck egg. Prices are very reasonable and a tub of congee will run you between $6-8 depending on the type you order. Meats. If you like cha siu (aka BBQ pork) they have this hanging in the front and sell it by weight or over rice. The over rice option is a good lunch choice since it comes with rice, some veg and the sauce! Also, under $8. They also have duck and roast chicken as well if you're a fan of those. I like these too but am a sucker for the cha siu. Noodles. Chicken Pan fried noodles, sometimes also called Liang Mian Huang or double fried noodles are extra crispy noodles with a saucy mixture of chicken and bean sprouts and other veggies that you add on top (they're separated for takeout). Singapore Chow Mei Fun, or the thin rice noodles, are flavored with curry, small shrimp, pork and other veggies mixed in, another favorite. Fried Beef Chow Fun, or flat noodles stir fried with beef. Just recently, we tried a "new" veg (new for us) dish and have liked the variety. Called Tofu with Mixed Vegetables on the menu, this comes with the type of tofu that has a skin, loofah, celery, straw mushrooms, carrots, broccoli and potentially others that I'm leaving out. We've liked this and have ordered it to go. Note this place is a cash only restaurant. It's pretty busy and you'll see someone typically with a pad of paper ready to take orders by the front. Don't be alarmed by the hustle and bustle if you go when it's busy, they push out a pretty large volume of orders! Swing by if you're in the area for some solid options. read more

I used to live in Elmhurst where there was a Shun Won and I really like their dishes but I stopped going after I moved to another area. Came to flushing today and was craving for ChaSiu and soy sauce chicken!! So I decided to come to ShunWon. I was a bit surprised that It was packed on a Tuesday afternoon but was lucky to get seats. This is a classic place that my family has been going to for years. I would say we get their food at least once a month when we visit my grandpa who lives nearby. We typically get their congee, noodles, or lunch packs. The thousand year egg and pork are a fave. We also love their char siu, its one of our fave meats as well. I personally love liang mien huang which is like a fried noodles, topped with some saucy veggies and meat. We've typically ordered to go but they have a seating area as well.
