As much as I was hoping it to be so, this fall short of a gastropub. I've eaten there a few times and I really want to love this place for the pleasant outdoor patio, dog friendly attitude, great location by the lawn, but I just can't get there with a few exceptions: The smashburger, the quesadilla and their coated thick fries are good, especially with the dipping sauces. Unfortunately I can't eat like my 15 year old son, so hard to make this a regular haunt for me. I have tried the steak - mine was bland and grizzly. Tried the braised short ribs with mac and cheese and crispy grilled onions, this was just one big fat bomb, but without a lot of flavor or acid to offset all that heaviness. The grilled shrimp soft tacos, other than the flavor of salt, was another textural and flavor disappointment. The coleslaw was a missed opportunity to add some tang. Sometimes the staff is super friendly and the service is great, but mostly a place you want to go if you have plenty of time and aren't really expecting much. I've been there in both peak and off peak times and it seems to be server specific and have far less to do with how crowded they are. I know other people really like the place, and I do hope they succeed. I will try a few more times, hopefully they'll rotate some new items onto the menu, and hope to make it a more regular haunt, as it's so convenient. read more

My fam and I were craving a burger after a very hot hike to Escondido falls and we stumbled upon Malibu Brewing's smash burger. The head chef told us about the whole menu, which sounded great but I had my eyes on the prize...that smash burger tho! The server said it's like an in n out burger on steroids lol! It goes above and beyond an in n out burger. It exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to eat this burger again with more people so we can all talk about how good it is haha! Ooooh and the fries, so crispy and well seasoned. They serve this burger with homemade potato chips, but I highly recommend swapping it out for their heavenly fries. I can't speak to anything else on the menu just yet, but the smash burger is 10/10. I wanna try the fish tacos next time, but let's see if I get anything besides the smash burger. What a wonderful night we had here. (Sorry for the long review). As we walked up to the brewery we were a little scared we weren't going to be able to get a table on a Friday night along with the concert they were having outside. We put our name on the patio wait list. Luckily we found a high top table in the bar to sit at while we waited. (First come first serve in the bar). We were greeted promptly by the bartender and ordered drinks and apps. I was dying to try the BUFFLO CHICKEN DIP SKILLET and boy it did not disappoint! Next time I'm ordering my own. It's also gluten free! My husband decided to order the LIFE-CHANGING SOPAPILLAS to start as well. We all enjoyed snacking on those throughout the night. About an hour later we got a notification our table was ready outside so the hostess brought us out. I had the SANTA FE SHORT RIB SANDWICH. It had the perfect amount of spice and great flavors. The only thing I would change is the way the meat was cut. Each piece managed to slip out of the sandwich when I would take a bite. My husband and friends enjoyed the SMASH BURGER AND MUFFULETTA WRAP. everyone was raving about their meal. As for the beer HAPPY DAYS, Amber, and Swartz beer were great. Highly recommended by the guys. Our table outside was perfect over looking the concert going on. Make sure to ask for a lamp. It gets very dark at the tables. Service was impressive. Wow, what an awesome experience! We did not plan to stop here however it looked so welcoming and clean we gave it a try. It was wonderful! The mushroom pizza was delicious and the service was friendly. The beers were great and they had non alcoholic options for this soon to be mama. They accommodated our large group of 18 with ease and were incredibly flexible when rain was forecasted--Denise graciously moving us inside in advance. On the day of, the skies cleared just before our reservation, and Denise thoughtfully called to offer moving us back outside to enjoy the beautiful Malibu weather. The service was fast and friendly, the food was excellent, and the beer was outstanding--especially the Stargazer, which was so good I left with three growlers. Hubby and I decided to celebrate Valentine's Day/weekend a bit early. Planned a whole day in Malibu and this was our third stop. It did not disappoint. Hubby ordered the nachos. I ordered the skirt steak. I swear I think I saw hub's eyes pop out a little because of how excited and strongly he felt how delicious the food was. Cute.... Concerning a bit ... but cute. He even mentioned something about "best nachos he's ever had" - hmm. :) Overall, everything was delicious. Even ordered dessert. The sopapillas 10000/10. (Was never really great at math) but y'all get the picture. Okay okay so I do have 1 slight constructive criticism that I must add on here. We have to discuss the restrooms. For such an amazing establishment, restrooms are definitely on the list of "important things to check off" list. It needed a lot of TLC because of how many people had to use it .... Went with my boyfriend on Thursday for our anniversary and our server, Colby (she said "like the cheese!" Haha). We ordered the chef special from her suggestion and it was amazing. Score! We're always on the hunt for good craft beer places when we're on vacation, we sure found a good one here. I tried a flight of their 'hoppy' collection, no disappointments. They were all wonderful, my favorite being their First Point IPA, my better half prefers hazy and she really liked the Wild Grove. She also had a wonderful salad with huge prawns, I had some sliders off of the daily specials menu that were beyond great! We stopped here after a hike up to Mugu Point. We were seated right away and served water. The waitress gave us a little time to browse the menu. We started with nachos and added chicken on top. Three sauces were served alongside the nachos - an avocado sauce, a red salsa, and a pineapple habanero salsa. The waitress also brought out a hot sauce that the chef had just finished making experimentally. We were the first customers to try it. We really enjoyed the pineapple habanero and the hot sauce - both with slight sweetness in the beginning, then a little kick at the end. For my meal, I ordered the grain bowl with an addition of chicken. It was really refreshing and good, although I only ate half as I indulged in the delicious nachos. I sampled my husband's short rib sandwich, and while usually not my cup of tea, the meat was so tender, and the bread was incredible. Our waitress was very friendly and quick to check on us. The food was delectable and the environment contemporary yet earthy. And the price? High, but this was Malibu, so that was to be expected.
