We were told this is the best steak in Lexington. We have to agree. Really good experience. Delicious food, friendly and courteous staff and cool atmosphere. The endless salad was fantastic and bottomless. The upgrade on the salad adding apple and blue cheese was nice but a little too much dressing, I would order it again but ask for less dressing. The steak Giovanni had the ribeye, it was cooked perfect and he loved it, he ordered French fries as his side, they were crinkle cut and not hot, a little disappointing. I had the 8oz filet asked for medium rare plus and thy is what I got, the meat was cooked perfect and very good. Next time we go I will ask them to go light in the seasoning they apply to the steaks. It was a little salty. My side as whipped potatoes, delicious but I had to send them back because they were room temperature. The replacement was only slightly warmer. Solid (but not exceptional) service for 8 people. Everyone was pleased with their order. Steaks cooked perfectly. Food that was supposed to be hot was hot; food that was supposed to be cold was cold. Malone's has the BEST baked potatoes in Lexington! They are huge, hot & fully cooked. They are wrapped in aluminum foil, covered in kosher salt & you can order your toppings on the side or on the potato. Sounds like a bad pickup line, intended. I hate that R.Z. had such a bad experience here and it would be a expensive one, dang. I have had better luck here at Malone's though. First I had the Stripped Bass sashimi. It comes from the Aqua sushi bar menu (give credit where credit is due). Aqua and Drake's are both part of Malone's but function on thier own also. Its a pretty neat complex really. You can go to Malone's with your wife or date and have a romantic, upscale meal and then walk directly into Drake's from inside Malone's. Now you and your wife/date are ready to meet friends and have drinks in a more relaxed atmosphere where you can still get food items if anyone gets hungry. Anyway, back to the sashimi. I have to say that this was some of the freshest fish that I have had in town and we eat a lot of sushi/sashimi. I must admit that I was not expecting the sashimi to taste this good. The texture was very nice firm enough to hold together very nicely but had a soft almost velvety texture in your mouth. Each piece was sized very nicely, you didn't feel like you were trying to stuff Joe Namath's soy soaked head into your mouth. The presentation was well done and actually excited me more about the endeavor before me. There was also ample wasabi and pickled ginger which can be lacking at some establishments. Next was the Ceasar salad with anchovy slices. Very nicely done with the lettuce cut properly and a good ratio of bright green to lighter (less flavorful and hard) pieces. Nothing worse than a Ceasar salad that taste like dumpster water. There was also a perfect amount of dressing that was well mixed so that no dry spots existed. All adults know that a dry spot is not the right spot, opps. Now for the main course, the 12 ounce Prime Rib. they also have a 16 ouncer if you wish. I ordered my Prime Rib to be done medium and it was perfectly so. It was served with creamy horseradish and Au Jus. I asked for the server to bring me a bit of dry horseradish simply because I prefer that. I did however taste the others and both were very nice with the steak. The steak came out at the proper serving temperature not hot enough to burn your mouth which is what you get most places and that is simply unacceptable for a good steak taste. R.Z. is right about the juices spilling out but that is intentional on thier part and a result of the cooking method. However, I can see any delicate sides on the plate, like the fries, getting ruined quickly. I had the baked potato with butter and sour cream though. Malone's, hands down, makes my favorite steak in town. I have always had a great experience with the food here, including the excellent Walleye. The place is a step up in grade of meat, thickness of cut, and cooking method. I would call it the Ruth's Chris of Lexington. Its my opinion and opinions are like taste buds, everybodies got thier own. read more

The steaks are fantastic and great prices. I wasn't in the steak mood our most recent visit and ordered the fried chicken (chicken fingers). They were great. We love the bottomless salad...so good! Alright, I was in Lexington on business a few months back and the group of people I was down working with recommended this place and raved about it. I went and had some of the best food I have ever had. The atmosphere is perfect for Lexington. Has a nice dinning room and bar area. This is a steak house with some the best flavored well cooked meat. The beef potato soup is the best. Make sure your go here. They have 3 locations, all in Lexington. Meh. I brought my fiance here for his birthday in Jan 2008 and spent way too much for what we got, I think. My steak was soo absolutely fatty. I cannot chew fat very good, so I had a horrible time with that...I do remember liking my sides though...I also don't know too much about steaks, and ordered a NY strip...being from NY originally, I thought this was a good choice, lol. We came to Lexington for the first time and many friends recommended this place as a must eat. We started with an appetizer which was a sushi roll off the main menu. Overall it was good but would have been better if the avocado was cold. My wife ordered a prime center cut sirloin and I ordered a filet mignon with king crab leg. My wife's fault...she thought she was ordering a prime rib since prime was in the name. Regardless, both steaks were cooked well done all around and the centers were more medium well than medium. We finished our dinner with creme brûlée which just made our decision easier to never eat at this establishment again. The sugar was just that, not crystallized. Our waiter kept disappearing, or MIA as I like to say. Not sure if he was going to smoke or do something else. The restaurant wasn't busy as we came at 4pm. Everytime I come to Lexington, I get taken to Malone's/Sal's and I must say that I just don't really like this Steak and Ale remake. I ate the attempt at a California roll and feel like I got rolled. Then, it was on to the soup which was Cream on Chicken but looked like Oatmeal with some kidney beans thrown on top. The sourdough bread loaf was actually good but the garlic butter was too much. We have dined at this location for Malone's many times in the past and have been very happy. From the moment we sat down, we knew this time might be different. Our arms stuck to the table as we read the menu. The waiter explained that all the tables had been accidently sprayed with a chemical in stead of cleaner! They put a cloth down and we were set. We ordered a dozen half shell oysters and when they arrived, a horrible odor was on the air. My husband's nose is not as good as mine so I wasn't surprised when he didn't smell the odor as strong. He grabbed one and popped it into his mouth before I could stop him but then he spit it out! It tasted like sewage. It smelled like sewage! When our waiter came by again, I had him sniff one and he grimaced an apology. He later returned with an apology from the chef who was embarrased about having served something so foul. The waiter asked if we would like a half dozen shrimp instead. The shrimp was brought and the rest of our meal went as we are accustomed. Salad was fresh and steak was well prepared. My asparagus was inedible but at least it didn't smell like sewage. We were presented with the bill and were surprised to find that we had been charged $20 for the shrimp that replaced the sewage oysters. Courtesy would have dictated that they recover their error in judgement by offering shrimp to us (which they did) and comp them (which they did not). I'm sad to say I am disappointed in one of my favorite restaurants. read more

We had a reservation, however, we were seated in the back of the restaurant where the large parties sit. We should have insisted on moving but host assured us that it would be quite. It was for approximately 20 minutes then they moved tables very close to our table and made room for a large and loud group. Do not let them seat you in this area. Waiter was pleasant and polite but he spent his time taking care of this large group so the service was slow and poor. He actually knocked over a full beer directly into my lap as he was reaching over the table. I was completely wet but was with family so I just sit there in soaked clothes and smelled like Blue Moon. He had the nerve to charge me for the beer. Really! My wife ordered Tuna and it was cold and dry. I ordered Cals Chicken and it was actually hot and tasty. (Maybe they felt bad about drenching my lap with beer) Haha. Daughter's Filet was cold and so were my sons mini hamburgers. We have eaten here many times but have not been satisfied the last few times so we're done with Malone's, especially since there are many new restaurants in Lexington and several new highly recommended steakhouses. read more

Was not what I was expecting when they say this is "Lexington's steakhouse". It was an overpriced Outback Steakhouse.

Malone's is called a steakhouse for a reason: their steak is awesome -- would you go to a sushi bar if you wanted to eat good steak? Malone's grills their steaks to perfection and has an array of delicious side dishes to complement them. Virtually every time I go to Malone's, we get an order of oysters on the half shell, they are bigger and better here than at any coastal seafood restaurant I've been too. Each entree at Malone's comes with the bottomless Lexingtonian salad, which is a relatively innocuous but delicious mix of diced iceberg, romaine, tomatoes, onions and tossed in a nice ranch dressing. As far as the menu goes, I've sampled a number of different dishes having been with girlfriend or groups, and I've never had anything that wasn't at least "very good," but I personally recommend you stick to the steaks! Lastly, if you have room for desert, try the (I think it's called) World's Greatest Desert, it is literally to die for (don't think about the calorie count). read more

The atmosphere is good , a bar / steakhouse bit a bit of a upscale feel. The swordfish was wonderful, the crab rangoon roll is my wife's favorite. The steaks are great 9 out 10 times, I have had only one underwhelming experience there with a steak, but it was during mid afternoon.I've never experienced bad service. Went here with a group of 15 on a business trip. I had read the service had gone down so I was a bit skeptical about that place at first. During my visit, the service was excellent. I have no complaints. The manager even came out to ask us about the service. I had the Fillet Mignon with mac n' cheese on the side. Both were delicious! From making the reservation, to dinner, to the A/V equipment they let us use, to the service, it was all terrific. Jamie is in charge of the banquet facility and she made sure everything was perfect. Went here with a large party had reservations, waited, got seated, waited again a while, got drinks... you get it. We were not in a hurry so it was not a huge deal. Most people got steaks and there were no complaints there but it is a steakhouse so that is a good thing they have them all from about 6oz to somewhere in the 30's. My non-land-dwelling-animal-eating self got their well advertised sushi. Sushi at a steakhouse? Yes I had it, it was just marginal, the meat was kinda not good quality and if you dont like it fried the selection was limited. Being kind of buzzed already (post bourbon trail and a beers) I also ordered a bottle of Cab, my own fault entirely, that really did not go well with the sushi. read more

For years my favorite steakhouse in Lexington, BUT, IMO slipping over the last few years and gaining stiff competition. Main complaint: SALT. With a good cut of meat, tons of salt not needed, but the last few times over the top. Scraping off the steak to eat it salty. Manager: "Yeah, we season heavily with salt and pepper." I've been eating at Malone's for well over a decade and I am definitely a fan. My favorite of the locations is the one in Landsdown Shopping Center at Tates Creek. The atmosphere is very nice, your classic/timeless steakhouse charm. (if you prefer the casual sports bar atmosphere, you can actually sit over at Drake's and order off of the Malone's menu.) The menu has changed some over the years but the food is consistently delicious. (and I'm not even a huge steak person.) The prices are very much in line with any prime steak house- especially seeing as you get a bottomless salad and a side dish with your entree (many prime beef cuts to chose from as well as fish.) I particularly enjoy the shrimp cocktail (HUGE shrimp cooked absolutely perfectly), the salads, and many of the appetizers. The sushi menu is quite good as well. I often order some combination of smaller plates versus a huge entree but my husband's steaks are always cooked perfectly. The service is PHENOMENAL in my experience. Our waitress tripped and spilled a little of my husband's cocktail on her way over to us the last time- which frankly wasn't that big of a deal to us. She brought us another cocktail (he still had 3/4 of the first one) and cash to cover the dry cleaning (for the 3 drops that might have landed on his jacket. Classy place, I tell you. Now if only I could teach them a thing or two about how to make coconut cream pie... they just might get the 5th star. read more
