I have eaten at Malone's twice. The first visit was fine, but my most recent visit I ordered the California Cobb salad. The cobb salad comes with cut up chicken that tastes exactly like it was poured out of a bag of already prepared, poor quality chopped cooked chicken. It was rubbery and awful, like it was boiled with some spices. I worked around the chicken as the rest of the salad was okay, but not great. The waiter finally came around and I mentioned the poor quality chicken. He said that if I had mentioned it earlier that he could have addressed it, but that he would take $2 off of the cost of the salad. I can get excellent salads elsewhere. I doubt that I will be back. read more

Food is good and service is ok, once you get food sometimes your drink is hard to get replaced, but can I find more than one place in Lexington that can cook a steak to temp??? It is usually wrong when I get it and I eat it with out complaint but I have mentioned to management and it still has not fixed issue. Family likes to eat here so I will continue to do so but will maybe order rare and extra crispy fries (to be actually hot) and get something I like to eat better...... only reason for the three stars is the inability to cook to temp... read more

Malone's Prime Rib or Sirloin are my favorites. If you are not too hungry, is great potion for two. The stakes I only want to give 3 starts but the 4th star I gave is for the pretty drinks, the caribbean mojito is quite pretty and taste right (right among of sweetness and not spice, very fun and sparking), the dessert is good, brought a whole cake back to share with friends. As an out of town visitor to Lexington, I very much look forward to a trip to Malone's! We made a reservation via OpenTable 2 weeks in advance of our event for a party of six. The fresh, warm bread and butter make for a great start to the meal, and the Lexintonian salad never disappoints! I ordered my go to entree: filet with mac and cheese as a side. It was cooked to perfection, and the mac was amazing. I assumed the reservation was hard to get because of the Keeneland spring meet, but quickly realized there was another reason it was a popular night: high school prom! Our server made a comment that they make it a point to treat the students well, as they will be repeat guests in the future. The service was good, per usual, although if I could deduct half a star, I would, as they were a bit distracted and neglected to put in the order for one of our friends. As soon as they realized they hadn't put his steak on, they immediately brought out an extra side for him to eat while he waited for his full meal, which was a nice gesture. Overall, a great experience at a Lexington staple. I'd love to see a Cincinnati location! read more

The service was out of this world the young ladies who waited on us were busy refilling our drinks, clearing plates and dishes. To top it all off blueberry-lemon cheesecake oh my God worth every calorie. One of my favorite places to eat when I'm in Lexington. This was a hard one to review as I have been here so many times over the years. I had not visited in about a year. Front desk is the same, nice and energetic young kids willing to please and follow protocol. Crowd is about the same of locals and regulars. Service is a step below previous but I am being critical because of their prices where you would expect top notch service. My salad was forgotten, water glasses not filled, etc. When my salad did finally arrive 2 minutes lasted my dinner arrived which is a major oops in the fine dining world. They should have held my steak or fired another one. Server and kitchen error. The biggest difference was the steak. I would always get the fillet and this time it was terrible. Ordered it medium and it was dry,dry, dry. They used to have the best but was not the same as before. Only ownership knows what has changed internally I can't answer that. read more

Worst experience I ever had at Malones. OK, the main dining area was closed for renovations so we dined in the attached Harry's. Was promptly seated at a table. Server took our orders then we did not see him for about 15 minutes. Another server brought drinks and about 10 minutes later we flagged down a yet different server to bring bread to the table. Five minutes later our salads arrived then TWO minutes later our main courses arrived. My steak and baked potato were good but the salad did not taste as good as usual partly because of large pieces of lettuce. Very disappointed. read more

Went here for Fathers Day. This is hyped in the Lexington area as being a top notch steak house, but this location did not offer what you would expect at a top of the line steak house. I asked the server what kind of oysters they had and he said he had never been asked that before. There are a million types of oysters all offering different flavors for the palette. He asked someone else and it was just your average .50 cent oyster from the local store. The steak was over cooked and I was brought another one. I ordered medium rare and the second one was a hair over cooked as well, but I did not want to wait another 10 minutes. And there was no offer of a discount on my check. It just felt like a glorified outback. This chain is overhyped. A $100 dinner should be impecccable service and outstanding food. ***the management contacted me and recently sent me a gift card to come back. Been coming here for years and have yet to have an item off the menu I haven't enjoyed. My favorite is the Aqua Sushi Bar. Steak is great but I have to be in the mood for it to enjoy. I always opt to get a sushi roll with the Lexingtonian salad. The salad is a great concoction of leafy greens, crisp bacon, tomatoes and their signature dressing. As self proclaimed foodies, this definitely in our top 3 places in Lexington. We adore Malone's. Even the sushi is top notch, but you can't miss the steak or Lexingtonian salad! We like to get sushi as an appetizer followed by a steak dinner, that way you enjoy all the best. Cocktails are great too. Growing up, I used to think it a chore to spend even one waking second in that godforsaken town, but ever since that fateful day last summer when I took a detour south to Lexington to try Malone's my life was forever changed. Let me set the stage here: as a fan of the greatest football team to ever exist, the thirteen championship game-winning team known as the Green Bay Packers, I was immediately welcomed home to a part of Packer history by having been given the distinct honor of sitting underneath the plaque affixed with the name of UK alumni wide receiver Randall Cobb. Ever since that day, I long for the chance to return to my beloved Bluegrass State, throw back a couple Woodford Reserves, destroy at least three bowls of bottomless Lexingtonian Salad among with the endless supply of the fresh bread and garlic butter, all before being served the main course consisting of my favorite type of filet cooked medium rare and prepared Oscar style. After traveling most of the day, I took the hotel's recommendation to come here. On a Sunday night they were fairly busy. Being very hungry I ordered a large prime 12 oz sirloin and sushi. I asked for it to come ASAP. Their regular salad is tossed in a heavier dressing with crisp bacon. It was very good, and the personal bread loaf with a vegetable seasoned butter was a very good start. The steak was cooked very well. For a thicker piece, they cooked it as requested and had a rolling levels of pink. The exterior was a tad too salty, understandable because of the cut of beef but less seasoning is something I would recommend. The sushi was a nice addition to this local steakhouse. Getting white tuna and spicy crab definitely added a new level to "surf and turf" What makes this place 5 stars is their smile. I traveled alone and they were very cordial and accommodating to my seating request. I sat at the bar and the bar tender was on top of refilling water and took care of me better than most servers at other restaurants. I appreciated their kindness to a traveler rolling through their town. I would recommend this to anyone who has 45 minutes for a nice well cooked meal. read more

The twin filets must not be the same quality of meat they normal have. Reminds me of the cheap filets I can get at Kroger in the prepackaged meat section. really great steakhouse. since there are a few Malone's in Lexington, I had expectations of a chain-restaurant experience, but this one was really good. there were five of us and no one was disappointed. three of us had steaks and argued over whose was better. I had the NY Strip and I still insist it was better than the filet :) The creamed spinach was the biggest hit as a side. they bring a nice bowl of salad for the table before the apps and refilled it after we demolished it. nice touch my only complaint was the mixed drink. Kentucky, so bourbon, right? I ordered an Old Fashioned which tasted more like sweet tea than anything else. so much simple syrup it killed and bourbon, orange or bitters flavor. I had to send it back and ordered a martini instead but they were super cheerful about it and took it off the bill. service overall was excellent was definitely a worthwhile stop and we will certainly come again next time we're in the area read more

Went to Malone's in Palomar tonight to celebrate a birthday. Their computer system was down so they would not brake up our bill. One person had to pay for the whole bill. They were manually entering credit cards. Whats the big deal to split it up. Now I have to get money to the person who paid the bill. Look I have tried this place again and again, mostly because when friends come to visit they have read somewhere it's amazing. No, it's average and there are WAY WAY better steaks and food, and service in Lexington. The pixie stick martini is delicious, so is the crab Rangoon roll, however the wings have gone down hill, and honestly I just feel this place is a glorified chain now. If you want steak, a good steak, one that ACTUALLY tastes good and not, OK, got to Tony's or Blue Heron. The first time I brought some clients here, the food was meh, but we had a good time, until we left. The it took a turn for the worse. We had paid out bill, tipped very well (the girl was awesome, but had to leave, so we paid and enjoyed our last bottle of wine) but as we walked back to the trucks we were chased out by the bartender screaming at us to pay our bill in front of a full house of patron sitting at Harry's outside bar. It was embarrassing and he was rude and threatening. Apparently his friend was the other waitress and I guess wanted a tip for us just sitting there.....not sure what really happened. We went in to talk to manager, but the 20 something a-hole was rude. We left and had not been back in three years. Then, my friend from NOLA came in, and really wanted to try Malone's, so we went. The crap Rangoon - yummy, the martini - delicious, however when the salads and baguette came out we could not get our hands on silverware. Our little waitress was busy, but three people were asked if they could get us silverware. So, by the time I walked into the restaurant and got silverware the salad was warm and the bread was hard as a rock. The salad tasted like lettuce floating in a sea on mayonnaise, with bits of real bacon to save the day. The baguette was a loss, we could have used it to bludgeon the Rowan country clerk , the manager came over and apologized about silverware asked if we wanted something but then never came back. My steak was not good, I had the petite sirloin... the lobster mac, boring. My steak had a strange flavor, but I eat mostly 100% local grass fed beef, and this is not. My friends filet, she enjoyed but had wished we had gone to Tony's, her crab leg was great, her side of mashed potatoes - meh. My point - there are better restaurants in Lexington, which serve local fair, better food, and have better service. For that reason I am done with Malone's. next time I have clients or friends in town who want to come here, I'll just drive to Tony's. However if you want to sit outside, enjoy a drink and have some apps, Harry's/ Malone's is good, the high-tops are nice, and if you want to watch a game there are T'V's everywhere. read more

My expectations with this place are always too high. Tonight I ordered the $59.99 '10oz. cold water lobster tail'. I was served a bleached, ammoniated, freezer burned, mushy way less than 10 oz tail. I expected so much more for 60 dollar entrée and sent it back. Oysters where flat empty dead flaps of grey matter masked with blue lights under ice. Asparagus was the size of my fat thumbs, cold onion rings, amateur staffing, and no bread. Disappointed again. Delicious! Stopped in Lexington for a weekend and tried this place based on the yelp feedback. Fantastic. Coming from NYC, we can be tough critics re steak. My sisters both went (one still attends) UK, and my parents recently moved to Lexington for their retirement. Every time I go to visit, we go to Malone's. And now I look forward to dinner there each trip! Living in Boston, we don't get steaks of this quality with out a hefty price tag next to it, so this is a real treat. I have yet to have anything that wasn't delicious. I love that we can get fresh sushi with our juicy steaks, and the Lexington salad is always a good idea. I also love the oysters Rockefeller. The food is very good, albeit a bit overpriced. There is a wide variety. Steaks, sushi, seafood, etc. The food is all fantastic. The bad part is the drinks. There is no nice way to say it. The drinks suck. The mixed drinks are WAY overpriced and VERY weak. I got a gin martini and it was horrible. The straight drinks such as a bourbon are very overpriced. There are no draught beers. Ive been coming here for years and over COVID it has understandably gone a lil down hill but tonight was terrible. Wrong drinks wrong food orders no knowledge from the staff about menu items and options. The service was a shell of what it used to be the SA came to the table one time, the drinks were weak and tasted awful. Top shelf bourbon and ginger ale in Kentucky, that's like a staple and it was just bad. Fries were over cooked and hard, wings ordered well done were cooked but just barely done, far from the order, waiting for the check took 20 min, I know things are hard because of COVID but you guys gotta get it together.
