Unfortunately, we ended up across the street at the Arby's drive thru for Father's Day. Our reservation was 6:15, we were seated 20 minutes late and as of 8:15, were still waiting for our meal. Our server (who was very kind and clearly over worked) asked us to stay to speak with the manager and comped the drinks and appetizer, but with three children, we couldn't wait to stick around. It seems like they made a poor choice to accept so many patrons if the kitchen couldn't keep up. read more

We had family in town, so we thought we would take them to a really nice restaurant. I thought we'd try Malone's because we heard how nice it was. We came in through the main door, the double doors with the huge Malone's sign over it. No employees to be seen anywhere, so we walked to the right until we found a couple of employees in back. They told us to seat ourselves anywhere. I looked around trying to find a decent table because most of the table were the tall type like you see in a bar. That should have clued me in I suppose. We sat down at a table and a waitress brought us out Malone's menus. We ordered our food. While she was gone, we discussed the fact that Malone's was supposed to be nicer than this. Then one of us went to the bathroom and discovered that Malone's was on the other side of the building. I asked the waitress when she came back and found out we were at Harry's. No offer to reseat us or anything. We were stuck eating at a bar but paying Malone's prices. To top it off, there was construction going on in part of the building and the front door was open. It was getting warm where we were sitting, and I had a fly that harassed me throughout the entire meal. After I got home, I called the manager to complain and basically got a sorry about that and a "have a nice day" from him. My first and last time at this place. read more

Typically the food and service is good. However, today it was not. I ordered online and arrived 5 minutes past the pickup time. First person came out and asked for my name. 15 min went by and a second person came out and asked if anyone had helped me. I said yes and gave him my name to check again. He came back out and said they didn't have my order so I and showed him my order on the phone. Third person came out and said they couldn't find my order but could make it quick in 10 min. Ate here for the first time. I loved the atmosphere. We had reservations and were seated immediately after they took our temperature. They serve a loaf of bread at the table, which was good. My husband and I both ordered filets. He gets medium rare and I get medium. The steaks were a little over cooked. I would say my husbands was a medium and mine was almost well done. We didn't complain though. They still tasted really good. We also ordered sushi as an appetizer. I cannot remember the name but it had steak in it. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the roll. It was super creamy because of the avocado and cream cheese in it. Probably one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. I got the jalapeño margarita which did not disappoint either. From the Bottomless Lexingtonian salad, to the Lobster Mac 'n Four Cheese, Sweet-n-Spicy Calamari, Baked Potato Fondue, Spinach and Artichoke Dip, and the Oscar-style Filets. I would recommend all. In fact, their menu may be a bit TOO widely focused, but that's no matter to me. The steak was cooked well and that was the first time I've had steak Oscar style. Awesome. Service: Very attentive. Took awhile for the main courses to arrive, but it was a Saturday night. Fairly busy. Price: A bit pricier, but much of that is because the ingredients and types of dishes they offer are already pricier on their own. For instance, their steaks are pretty normally priced, somewhere in the $25-40 range. Atmosphere: Very nice interior, a bit loud, walls are full of autographs from celebrities and athletes who have dined there. We love this restaurant and especially this location. I have used carry out often because it's so easy with their drive up process. We have also visited several times during Covid because we feel very safe there. The reason for my updated review is because of their new Chef's special called Chicken Piccata. It is absolutely delicious. Two chicken breasts, grilled with skin on are incredibly tender and served with lemon sauce with capers. There is a large serving of mashed potatoes and the chicken is topped with fried leeks that are so good. The other meal we ordered was grilled salmon and is always cooked perfectly. The hi-light of our meal was the dessert called "The World's Greatest Dessert" and it lives up to the name. It was my Mother's birthday and she thoroughly enjoyed it. One of my colleagues was flying out of Lexington and struck up and a conversation with a horse jockey. He insisted that my colleague had to try Malone's before we finished our project - and I'm so thankful he did. After calling for a reservation at 4 pm, the Malone's Palomar team was able to fit in our 20 person group that night at 9 pm, which was much appreciated. From drinks to appetizers to steaks, Malone's did not fail to impress. While the steak was excellent, I was incredibly impressed with the seafood. It's often hard to find great seafood in landlocked cities, but the crab and lobster at Malone's was just like any I'd get on the east coast. The staff was also great in staying open late for our party to finish up. Our trip to Malone's remains one of the highlights of my several weeks in Lexington. Highly, highly recommended for a dinner you won't soon forget. read more

What?! I've never reviewed this Malones?! This is literally my favorite restaurant in Lexington. Maybe I didn't want to share about it because I didn't want it to catch on. Who knows, but here we go. This is one of the closest restaurants to Keeneland and it stays crowded during the Spring and Fall meets, so if you're planning on trying it around those times, schedule your reservation well in advance. Reservations aren't required at any point, but if you come on the weekends without one, it's usually about a thirty minute wait (during non Keeneland periods). When you walk through the revolving door and straight into class, you immediately get the feel of the atmosphere. If you're feeling more of a sports bar atmosphere, you can choose to sit in the Harry's part of the restaurant. Harry's is actually another restaurant in itself. Both Malone's and Harry's have separate menus. Both of which you can order from whether you choose to sit in the Malone's area or the Harry's area. It may sound a bit complicated, but it isn't actually. So, I'll also mention the third restaurant option within the place, it's Aqua Sushi. The Malone's menu consists from high priced steaks to reasonably priced sandwiches. I'm not a beef eater anymore, but people rave about their steaks. My favorite thing that they serve is the Lexingtonian salad. It's a bottomless, ranch drench lettuce, tomato and bacon concoction. Notice that I said that it's drenched in dressing, so if you don't like a lot of dressing, I highly suggest that you ask for your dressing on the side. A Lexingtonian comes with all of the dinner entrees and arrives before the meal, usually shortly after the bread and butter. It's an upcharge on the lunch menu though. The lunch options are basically the same, just smaller portions and cheaper prices. The lobster mac and cheese is another thing that I like there. I don't often order it, unless I'm up to splurging or rewarding myself with a carb fest. The jumbo shrimp is also great. The fried chicken meal is actually a massive order of fried chicken strips. If you're looking for Lexington's largest order of chicken, here it is. The wait staff and management are top notch here, as with every Bluegrass Hospitality Group restaurant. Yes, there are several of these groups of restaurants in the area. Last but not least... the courtesy shuttle van. It's free and operates during dinner hours... as long as you're located within 15 minutes from here. Why 4 stars? Because my surf and turf was a treat. --- --- --- Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm rich and order things like surf and turf. I don't know if it's because I want to feel better about myself, or if my stomach is truly making the decisions over my brain... but it happened again here at Malone's. There were a couple of mix-ups with some confusion over our order, but nothing a few minutes of patience couldn't fix. My food was wonderful, and Malone's was a great way to end my first trip to Lexington. I will have to mention, with full disclosure, that something from this meal didn't quite agree with my stomach. I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality service AND food here. It's always been a restaurant I've wanted to try out, but figured it was too bouigie. I ordered the 6oz sirloin medium (it was perfect) with the lobster mac n cheese... My husband got the cajun beef penne, which was pretty much to die for. The atmosphere is loud, bustling, and irritatingly "Kentucky horse or sports money", with tons of "celebrity" signed menus adorning the walls. Malone's is just hands down the best restaurant around. I have visited all of the other high end steakhouses in Lexington (you know like that one on Main) Malone's rises above all of them. By far the best value in dining! I have been visiting Malone's frequently for more than a decade now and I have never left disappointed. On the rare occasion something is not perfect the staff are extremely eager to resolve any issue. The food is terrific, the service is unmatched, the atmosphere is perfect. Malone's thinks of every detail of your dining experience from the crushed ice in the water to the music playing at the perfect volume in the background, I love it all. Still my favorite restaurant in Lexington. As you can tell by my other reviews, I am a big fan of steak and Malone's did not disappoint. I have been to over 30 steak houses just in Chicago and while would not be the best there, it would be very respectable and do well (and is better than any steakhouse in San Francisco). I had the bone-in fillet, which was prepared perfectly. Nice size, good flavor. Had it with asparagus that was also done perfectly. We started with a crab Rangoon roll that was interesting and tasty. Malone's is not selling itself as such. Try it. You'll really like it. For the main course I had the Stoop's ribeye and the wife had the filet. Both of us agreed that our steaks were some of the best we've ever had. The ribeye was seasoned and cooked to perfection. As they brought mine to me an old woman sitting a couple tables from us exclaimed, "My God that looks incredible!" It was. Last night was my 4th or 5th time at Malone's; I live in San Diego, CA. I have to say it was by far the BEST dining experience yet! Ironic because the restaurant was super busy and working on a 60+ min wait for walk ins! It was a gorgeous evening and I am pretty sure EVERYONE who was at Keanland decided to dine at Malone's! Let me be clear; my prior dining experiences were not bad by any means, last night was just more delish! I was able to find a seat at the bar (perks of dining alone while traveling on business!) in the midst of a large crowd! I strayed from my usual dish and ordered Filet Mignon with fried shrimp - it was amazing! The steak was cooked to perfection and the fried shrimp were so large and flavorful! I ordered my baked potato with the "butter they serve with the bread"! I am a HUGE fan of the Lexingtonian salad, even though I am not a salad fan! The service last night was great! My water glass was never empty and all of my needs were attended to. Even though the bar was several layers deep I never had a long wait for any request - including my food! I was very impressed! Haven't never really been a fan of the steak at Malone's, but many of the other dishes and sides I think are spectacular and so is the service 9 times out of 10! Due to the wonderful pandemic we got mothers day dinner to go from this location and I was worried things would go haywire and to their credit that was NOT the case at all. Two Salmon dinners were cooked to perfection. Sides and salads travelled well and everything was correct with the order. If I were to completely nitpick I would say that for four meals purchased maybe two bread servings should have been included instead of just one, but that is just nitpicking. We always enjoy the food here. We don't get to visit as often as we like. On one occasion the service was extremely slow but the manager noticed we had been sitting there for awhile. He came over and asked about the situation. He went to the back with some of the waiters and things went to warp speed after that. They brought our food and even things we hadn't ordered for free. Cameron was attentive, inquisitive and positive. She was the true highlight of the wonderful evening. She was very knowledgeable about the beers and bourbons. I have the large sirloin and it was very flavorful. The crust added to the steak without overpowering the meat. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was totally worth the upcharge. It was impactful yet delicate enough to still showcase the lobster. The apple crisp dessert was everything you want in an after dinner treat. The cinnamon balanced well with the sweet and the crust was heavenly. Cameron even made us her version of a Bourbon Cream drink and it was the perfect nightcap to the evening. Malone's is a Lexington classic - a *local* chain of several co-located spots with different foci (a steakhouse, bar food and a sushi spot) where guests can order from any of the available options from any of the seating areas, though each area certainly emphasizes their fare, in ambiance alone, if nothing else. (Just to note: if you're ordering from one of the spots you're not actually sitting in, the server is likely to be less than totally able to answer all questions...They're good servers, but it would take a superhuman to recite details for three menus, particularly when seafood is involved.) If you're not from 'round here and interview for an executive level position with one of the major manufacturers (or other significant commercial players) in the area, it's pretty likely you'll wind up here for a meal or two...or well, more than that. And if you're a consultant who works regularly in the area...well, enjoy exploring the menu or feel confident in hosting clients here! This one is my favorite, but several of the chain locations are the general "go to" spots for senior level executive level companies due to the reliably professional service and the very reliable menu. There's something for everyone - especially when you consider all three menus, but even with regards to flavors on each of the three. Food isn't boring or from the 60's (though it's probably not likely to be full of culinary surprises, especially if you're visiting from anyplace accurately described as "urban" or on either coast). Ingredients are fresh and quality. And service is good: reliably good, unobtrusive and less formal than a fine dining spot (steakhouses - kinda like Texas - are their own thing, regardless of how fancy or pricey, they never quite hit true "fine dining service" standards, IMHO, which is fine, but may be the source of other's complaints, dunno). Love the Lexingtonian, Chevy Chase, and Steakhouse salads, each of the steaks I've had during dinner service, mac and cheese (always!), croquettes (sometimes) and several of the "sandwich" options (the open faced salmon BLT has always been amazing!). Parking / driving is easy; they tend to start up slowly on weekends, but otherwise maintain a fairly busy service. read more

I ate at Malone's today and they food was ok. The billing was substandard. and degrading. I was paying the bill with a credit card (my mistake) and they come to the table stating my daily limit had been exceeded on that card. I have no daily daily limit on that card. I tried another card and the management came to the table, in an insulting fashion, stating the card had been declined, bullshit. I paid with cash and left the restaurant to never enter it again. If they are having those kind of issues with the card readers I wonder how secure the card readers truly are. read more

I have eaten at Malone's twice. The first visit was fine, but my most recent visit I ordered the California Cobb salad. The cobb salad comes with cut up chicken that tastes exactly like it was poured out of a bag of already prepared, poor quality chopped cooked chicken. It was rubbery and awful, like it was boiled with some spices. I worked around the chicken as the rest of the salad was okay, but not great. The waiter finally came around and I mentioned the poor quality chicken. He said that if I had mentioned it earlier that he could have addressed it, but that he would take $2 off of the cost of the salad. I can get excellent salads elsewhere. I doubt that I will be back. read more

Food is good and service is ok, once you get food sometimes your drink is hard to get replaced, but can I find more than one place in Lexington that can cook a steak to temp??? It is usually wrong when I get it and I eat it with out complaint but I have mentioned to management and it still has not fixed issue.
