We've tried coming here oue last few trips to Sac, they were closed each time (covid). Bartender at Station 16 told us to give them a try, so we wandered down. The Bartender (though was one of his last shifts :( ) was knowledgeable without being a know it all, was honest on a few we asked about. We stopped in at Malt & Mash after meeting up with some friends for a late night drink after their concert at DOCO got out. Oddly it was only one of a few spots that were open past 11pm on a Tuesday, which I get. Tuesdays aren't exactly a turn up night. We were greeted by their doorman who never cracked a smile and seemed super intimidating, but I guess that's his job. Inside was dark with some booth seating and bar top style tables. There was a decent sized crowd of people but I'm assuming a vast majority of them came from the concert that had just let out not too long ago. I had a spiced pear hot toddy cause it was cold AF outside and it knocked my socks off. It was so delicious, warm and just hit the spot. I ended up having 3 in the short time were were there because they called last call around 12-12:30. I will say the bathroom situation everyone keeps mentioning is odd. There is a keypad but since it was fairly busy it was easy to catch someone coming out so we never had to ask for a code but we did watch people struggle. Only other thing I wasn't too keen on was the choice of music, it was country. Not my type of thing, but no big deal. Overall not too bad of a spot, and we'd stop in again especially for that spiced pear toddy! read more

I am writing a review to serve as a warning. A bartender told my husband 3 times they didn't have his credit card. My husband had just made the purchase and knew for a fact they had his card. He then asked the second bartender if his card was there. Lo and behold, it was there and they had it. The first bartender had 3 security guards literally throw him in the street. He weighs less than 200lbs and wasn't combative. They didn't ask him to leave so he didn't have an opportunity to exit the place himself. The best part is when I called them they made animal noises into the phone . I called them to ask when a good time would be to speak to their manager or what method I could use to reach out to address this use of excessive and unnecessary force and they made animal noises and hung up on me. Tldr; watch out. This place is dishonest, does not value their customers, and may or may not try to keep your credit card. I don't feel safe there and you provably aren't either. read more

I had the absolute worst experience here last month. Came in with a group of 8 other people on a Saturday night, we get through security and I go to the bar to ask for the bathroom code and I'm told I need to order a drink first. I inform the bartender that I'm not drinking but the rest of my group will be, he says he can't give me the code until someone orders.... Mind you, 8 other people are planning to order drinks and they have 2 other patrons in the bar. 2 of my friends order and he finally gives me the bathroom code, when I exit my friend informs me we've been kicked out. I guess the bartender didn't like that one of my friends questioned why he wouldn't give the bathroom code when they aren't busy, we weren't rowdy, and were clearly going to be ordering drinks?! He also refused to give another one of my friends the managers name. I would understand hesitation in giving the code if they were busy or we were overly drunk or something, but to refuse the code when there's only 2 other patrons in the bar and a large group getting ready to order drinks is absurd! read more

Rudest bartender "owner". My husband, our friend and I went to grab some drinks. We ordered our drinks and he gave me my drink and started to make my friends and husbands. Two nicely dressed ladies approached me and asked if I knew the code to the restroom. I said no I didn't, turned to the bartender and asked for the code. He rudely replies "I don't give the code unless they buy drinks". I said well I have to go and I have a drink. My husband then asks for the code and the bartender says "I'm not doing this." Then turns to me and asks if I want my drink. I look at him confused and he says "well I'm not serving them so do you want your drink?" Mind you, 3 of us ordered drinks and the other two were about to after they went to the restroom. We left without drinks and went across to darling aviary (better vibes, service and drinks!) My guy and I stopped in at Malt & Mash for a drink at about 5:15pm on Wednesday (5/11) before the Eric Church concert. The place was practically empty, except for four men who had already been served and were enjoying their cocktails while chatting with the bartender. There was also a 2nd staff person cutting fruit for the bar trays. After grabbing some water from the corner (and saying hi to the 2nd staff person), we sat at a table near the bar. And waited. And waited. Then a girl came in, stood at the bar, and 2nd staff person served her while we watched. The bartender stayed in conversation with the four guys sitting at the bar. I'm not sure he even looked at us. We were never acknowledged, and never told, "Oh, hey ... you need to come to the counter to order." So we left. We ended up going to Sauced, where we enjoyed $7 Bulleit and two trays of fantastic barbecue. Owner: Check your cameras. This absolutely happened. Malt & Mash is conveniently located downtown, about a block away from DOCO. The location and whisky selection is good, but the ambiance leaves me wanting more. The interior feels as though little effort was put in to make it pop. It is dark and could use more windows. The outdoor area is better, though it is next to an empty square. Instead of being able to people watch, the appeal is mostly that it feels less stuffy than the seats inside. Obviously, where Malt & Mash does shine is in its whisky selection. This is my British friend's go to spot. As a whisky lover, he continues to go here, citing them as having one of the better selections in town. If you like whisky and live in the area, you should definitely come by Malt & Mash at some point in your life. There are not a lot of bars in the area that have extensive whisky selections and for that reason alone, this place is worth a visit. However, for a night of bar hopping, I would probably leave it off the list. read more

The hosts are very helpful and the hostesses are very helpful! I saw what look like feathers on a pole, someone say they called Boas! Boas, as in snakes? Where the snake, to me, looked as pink feathers, yellow feathers, blue feathers! The one person says one can wrap around the neck, okay, it did feel soft, no itchiness such as when people wear jewelry! At least unlike the snake, these feathers will not suffocate the person when the person wraps it around their necks! He was pissy and his PH factor was at 10 or more, so I let it go, but dude was a complete and utter prick. Walked in very randomly on a Monday night to grab an after dinner drink with my hunny and some of our friends. Yelp said they were closed but they weren't? Odd. The guy working the bar was incredibly knowledgeable about their whiskey offerings. We don't really know anything about whiskey except that we like to drink it, so we had a few questions and he provided us with the answers we were looking for and then some. Music they were playing could have been off of one of my Spotify playlists. Metallica, AC/DC, Tom Petty and a little 90's emo type songs from The Used, NFH etc. mixed in. I loved it! This was my second time coming here and both times we received good service by the bartender. We ordered the old fashion and it was well made. It was a little busy there, but the bartender accommodated us as quick as he could. There were some TV's inside that had some of the college football games on. There's a bunch of pictures everywhere from what looks like we're taken in Ireland. Be prepared to show your ID at the door to the security guard, they actually scan it into a system. There's a bunch of different whiskeys that I would love to try but maybe next time we can. The vibe here is pretty nice and laid back, I will definitely be back for another drink. This database has little protection and pretty much anyone who subscribes to it will have access to your name, DL#, home address, photo and all other info contained on your identification. My dude and I go to a ton of bars and restaurants, the only time I can recall having an issue is when we came here. We walked in, sat down to order a drink, while we were ordering my boyfriend asked for the code for the bathroom, Patrick, the man behind the bar said "once we get drinks and payment I will give you the code" which I can understand due to the area. My issue was, the tone. He spoke to us like we were far below him on the human scale. While we sat to finish our drinks, he spoke about numerous topics, mostly how covid vaccines are stupid and how he will "never wear a mask". Malt & Mash Irish Pub may finally break the losing streak of this particular restaurant location in downtown Sacramento. This small pub is between 7th & 8th Streets along K Street, right in front of the St. Rose of Lima Park and Ice Rink. This is primarily a 21+ bar that serves a limited food menu. It is hard to find a bad thing about this place, except for the overall small size of the pub. Drinks are great with a large beer selection. The staff are pleasant and friendly if not a bit overworked. The seats are large and comfortable with lots of HD televisions around to watch the game when your date is not looking. Malt & Mash has a decent, albeit small, food menu with several loaded fries including a great duck poutine. The good combination of upscale small plates and large drink menu make this pub a standout. This is also a great place for pre or post game activities near the Golden 1 Center. It is also adjacent to the ice rink for some great adult fun. Prices are high, but you are paying for location. This place will probably be packed during peak periods, but the drinks will be cheaper than inside the stadium. read more

This place has a ton of potential but needs to step up its game to realize it. With its location and being one of the few restaurants open around the arena it can really get a foothold on the arena traffic if it can fix the small service hiccups and get the food dialed in. The service was friendly but a bit absent minded. Forgotten orders. Meal served without silverware etc,. They were busy but there appeared to be plenty of staff. The beer selection was nice but they also were out of a few selections. I did order the Track 7 Panic IPA so I was plenty satisfied. The food was a bit of miss as well. I ordered what the menu called "not your classic Ruben". It is house made pastrami with Swiss, Russian Dressing and spicy Kimchi on toasted rye. The menu had me drooling but the execution was off. The pastrami is smoked in house and was ample but it was burned and really only brought a charred flavor. The kimchi was a bit overwhelming and the smoothness of the Swiss could not mellow it and without the saltiness of the pastrami the meal turned into a kimchi sandwich. Fix the pastrami and I think they will have one helluva sandwich on their menu. The flaws aren't fatal but with so many restaurants opening up in the area soon they will need to be fixed. Overall, they have a nice bar and the staff I encountered was very friendly. 2.7 stars and I will round up to 3. read more

Went here with friends and coworkers on Friday night and I received the worst service ever. My friends who were Caucasian were served right away. My friends who were Mexican or Black waited over 15 minutes, while the bartender didn't look their way or my way on separate occasions. We had to have our Caucasian friends order our drinks and they were asked what they would like within a minute by the bartender. I will never come back here again. Very cool bar in a great location across from the new Golden 1 Center. The ambience is fun and can get pretty lively when there are games on the huge TV's. I have an obsession with soft pretzel and the one offered here is huge! It's more bread-like in texture but super tasty. The dipping sauces that come on the side compliment the pretzel very well, especially the mustard seed one. The service has been great the times I've been there and the servers are always making sure you have something to drink. I like this place and I will definitely have to come back to try the other menu items. read more

This place is 50-50 for me. I would give 3 1/2 stars if I could. It's in a decent location, but a little bit a ways away from the main stretch of bars, so you do you have to drive/walk/Uber a little ways to get to more places to drink and have a good time. I've been here a few times, the pours are fairly heavy and the drinks are good, it gives you a nice change of pace from DeVere's for the Irish pub atmosphere and it's much nicer on the inside. Clean, newer, pride in decor no doubt. Not exactly a fan of the dead deer head on the wall, and it's gross and doesn't really fit, it's a new addition and I can't say I appreciate that. Came for happy hour once and had their poutine with turkey gravy, the fries were just OK, your typical pre-frozen fast food french fries but the meat, cheese curds and gravy were quite delicious. You could see they used fresh herbs for the gravy, tasted homemade. Always the same bartender every time I've been, not exactly a friendly guy but then again, I wouldn't be super friendly if they Had me working all the damn time.. LOL. The husband ordered a shot of Jamison and Guinness, he easily poured closer to two shots for the price of one.
