Mama Bird's Ice Cream has their newest location in the Sweetwater development in Apex. We stopped in to grab a scoop and enjoyed it. My husband ordered the love potion #9 in a waffle cone and I ordered a kids scoop of the buckeye in a sugar cone. I really enjoy all of their interesting flavors and can't wait to return for more. Their original location is in Holly Springs which is more convenient for us but check them out at one of their locations. read more

Pretty great ice cream. Flavor and texture is quite good, and the variety of options allows for something for whatever your ice cream preference is. The space itself is quite nice, with plenty of seating inside and outdoors, being in sweetwater it's also quite nice to grab some and just walk around. The Deets: Arriving to the Sweetwater Town Center complex in Apex a bit early before the Yelp Elite event at Fratelli's Deli, I did a little exploring and came across Mama Bird's Ice Cream. Intrigued, I popped in to see what they are about, and because, I'm never against a little treat before meal time. Entering inside, this shop is bright, clean, and neat. There were not too many people in there and that may be due to there is a pretty small seating space inside (with outside seating available when it's warmer). I surveyed their display case and menu to see what I'd fancy. They have "staple flavors" and "guest flavors" for ice cream served with different size scoop options (single/double/triple) with a few cone offerings including waffle cones or cups. Specialities include ice cream sandwiches, brownie sandwiches, sundaes, milkshakes, floats, pup cups, and pints to go. Beyond the soda floats and milkshakes to purchase for beverages, there is free water provided with cups also but did not see other beverage offerings. Ice cream cakes are also available. I chose to make it simple, a single scoop cup with one of their staple flavors called Cookies 2 Ways. Anything with cookie dough and you got me. Their single scoop size offered plenty for a small treat. The ice cream itself tasted great, very rich and flavorful, with just enough of cookie goodness to enjoy within that tasty ice cream. I enjoyed this pre-meal treat, it was creamy and delicious, but just enough not to spoil my appetite for later. Service was nice and helpful here also. I would say 4.5 stars here, good ice cream in a clean, nicely decorated shop. read more

This was my first time at any Mama Bird's location. I liked that they had cake and specialty options to mix things up from a typical ice cream shop. I ordered an ice cream sandwich. Before ordering, I thought they might be made to order but was directed to a freezer with premade ice cream sandwiches. I had the Milk & Cookie remix, a cookies 'n cream cookie, and milk 'n cookies ice cream, and it was the best ice cream sandwich I have tried. The cookies were very flavorful. I appreciated their unique guest flavors. The inside was spacious, so if they were busy, there should be plenty of space to wait. There is limited seating inside, but there is also outdoor seating. This was a great treat, and I plan to return to try other flavors and creations. read more

Super cute spot with lots of flavors to choose from and friendly service. The kids both had Scooby Snacks, which was dry and not great. They also had Moore Mint and Buckeye, which were better than Scooby Snacks. We all agreed, we wouldn't order those flavors again. read more

Some of the best ice cream I've had! A great selection of flavors and my favorite is the Salted Crackamel!! A little salty, a little sweet, completely delish! I love that it can get a sample to try out a whole bunch of flavors too. The Strawberry Honey is also superb too! A soft strawberry flavor with ribbons of honey that isn't too sweet and perfect for summer. You can also get ice cream cakes and sundaes here too! Good service overall and modern vibes! read more

So nice to have another local ice cream shop in the area & in a great location too! There's plenty of parking with a parking deck nearby as well as street parking. There's some interior seating & plenty of outdoor seating once the Sweetwater activities get underway. There's interior is clean and modern with a tables. The main attraction obviously is the ice cream. They carry some unique (& delicious) flavors that you won't find elsewhere. I had the Kulfi (a South Asian inspired flavor with cardamom & pistachios) & the Phil Collins (biscotti ice cream with homemade pistachio brittle). They were both fantastic! I was super excited that the new ice cream shop opened in the area. And it was more excited that it was not a generic chain, ice cream shop like Baskin-Robbins. However, after tasting the ice cream, all my hopes and expectations came crashing down. We were four of us and between the four of us we tried out six different flavors. There was not a single flavor that we thought was above average. It's not bad. Don't get me wrong. It just tastes like generic store-bought ice cream. I just wish they were half as good as Andia's. Our daughter wanted to try Mama Bird's instead of Fresh. The establishment was clean and well organized. However, the young lady who was making waffle cones decided to eat the crumbs from the prepared cones while wearing the same gloves with which she continued to make new cones. She licked her fingers and continued to use the same gloves which were now contaminated with her salvia. Disgusting! Unhygienic! Illegal! I noted this and advised my husband and daughter to avoid buying the waffle cones. We ordered vanilla, biscoff (can't recall the actual name), mint chocolate chip, and cookie flavors. The ice cream was delicious. However, in addition to the aforementioned health code violation, one of the servers was very rude. I asked our server if I could have the brownie sundae with the brownie in a separate container. She said she didn't think they could do that. Then, she asked a young man who worked there, and he asked another worker. The other worker refused, stating it was against their policy. I then asked if I could buy an additional container. The worker (not our current server) said no. I asked if she was telling me that there was no way that I could separate the brownie from the ice cream. She said "I'm not telling you anything. I'm too tired for this." Then, the young man said that I could buy a brownie and pay for the ice cream separately. Okay, fine. I'm willing to pay for what I want despite the level of unprofessionalism of the rude worker's statement. I paid an additional $3.50 for a brownie in a separate container instead of paying the price for a brownie sundae. I can live with that. The issue is the rude worker's unnecessary statement. If you're too tired to work, go home. Needless to say, my family never return. The only reason we stayed after seeing the worker eating and licking her gloved fingers was to appease our daughter. She was the first to order and the first to receive her ice cream. She'd already eaten half of her serving before my husband and I ordered. I should alert the health department. Small portions with a hefty price. Feels very uninviting when entering Nothing like the Mama Birds in Holly Springs which we loved for many years. The waffle cones are brittle but still tasty. The single scoop with hot fudge at 7.50 was such a small scoop and hardly any fudge, just disappointing. There are many competitors throughout the area, I hope they can get it together. Also, they recently advertised new monthly holiday flavors on IG and upon arriving was told they would not have until the next day. read more
