I've been searching for a Korean bbq burrito after my favorite one closed down so this place was a must-stop on our day trip to the East Bay. It's located inside of Lake Chabot Public Market to the right of the entrance. They sell branded merch that we were so tempted to buy! They also have a little grocery store section which is perfect if you needed to grab a few things. We ordered the kalbi burrito and bulgogi cheesesteak. She warned us of the wait time before we ordered, which we appreciated. She quoted us 20-25 minutes but it wasn't too long at all! We got our food in about 15 minutes but I appreciated their transparency. Had to take a bite of the French fries first - they tasted like McDonald's! My kalbi burrito was huge, and so good. The ingredients could be spread out a little better, I was eating just plain rice for the first 3 bites. And all of the kimchi was in the very last few bites on the other end. But otherwise the meat was tender, although could've been more of it! I also would've enjoyed some kind of spicy creamy sauce, maybe like a gochujang mayo. The size was plenty and I was able to take home half to eat for another meal. The burrito was closer to a 4 star but my review is going to be a 5 because of my husband's bulgogi cheesesteak. It was also very good size which is good since both were $15 each without any side or drink. The meat was so tender and there was a nice kick to the flavor. The tomato and lettuce were unnecessary since those aren't on cheesesteaks normally but I could eat those peppers all day. They were sweet and not overly spicy. I hope they read this review and tell me what kind of peppers those were because I need them in my everyday meals at home! Really great experience here - I'll definitely remember that cheesesteak!

Came to Mama Cho's after a day of fishing at Lake Chabot! Glad to find a place so close since we were starving. This place shares a space with other food stalls in the market. Mama Cho's also has a market where you can buy Korean groceries/drinks. I ordered the bulgogi cheesecake and Kalbi burrito. Not sure if it was because I was super hungry but the cheesecake was fireeee. I loved all the peppers in the sandwiches. The cheese and bulgogi went really well. I wish the bread was toasted though. The burrito was also good! I wish they had other sauce besides just tapatio but overall a good experience.

This is my go to place whenever I'm not sure what I want to eat. When I'm depressed and can't stomach anything, my friends know to get me something here for some food. This restaurant is located in Lake Chabot Public market where there are different food items like Boba, ice cream and ramen too. There's a pretty decent sized parking lot where I've never seen really run out of space. If the front is full, there's another back parking lot with more spaces. You have to order the food first, and then grab food on the other side. Whether you call in, order online or order in person, the people working here are always helpful and a pleasure to talk to. There are a lot of picnic tables to choose from in the market from small tables for 2 to big tables for 12 people. My go to at Mama Cho's is the Kalbi burrito. It's the best remix of a burrito using Korean style marinated meat. I'll grab a picture of it soon. I also love all of the appetizers like the macho fries, highly recommend with pork; or try their sweet potato tots; Their regular garlic fries are worth trying as well. I was feeling like a burger today and I also got me the burrito to go (please don't judge me). The Kalbi cheeseburger hit the spot with the right amount of onions, pickles and slices of cheese on a Kalbi patty that adds a hint of sweetness to the savory. The tomato's are a hit or miss for me on a burger so to me, they were just there. As hungry as I was, the burger was not enough for me to be full. I broke into a quarter of my burrito as well and left completely happy and excited for my next meal to finish the rest of my burrito. This place is a must try and I mean everything on the menu.

This is located in a food cafeteria type place where there are multiple food options with seating in the middle. Lots of parking available. Korean Fried chicken - chicken wings that were big, juicy cooked perfectly and nicely crispy but the flavor tasted strongly of salt and sugar. For some reason the way the taste made me think of cafeteria food. They were good but a bit like it was made in bulk if that makes sense. Price was okay, if it was any more $$$ I would think it was overpriced. Radishes were a nice touch but they did taste a bit stale or just not as crunchy and fresh as BonChon. If I got this again I would get a different sauce option.

This is located in one of those Marketplaces. There are currently 5 vendors.. Mama Cho's BBQ is so delicious. I love the Oakland Kalbi Ribs. Yesterday I tried the Bulgogi for the first time and it was a hit. The regurla plate is $17 (1-19-23). The Oakland Kalbi is an additional $3 and the Bulgogi is an extra $2. They are both totally work the extra cost. The plates come with rice and kimchi. All the meat is made to order and every bite tastes fresh. Here's What I Think...even if you're not in the neighborhood, please visit Mama Cho's.

10 piece fried chicken and garlic fries
    Dale S.

My husband and I had lunch here this week. We ordered a 10 piece Korean Fried Chicken for $16 that came with steamed rice and daikon and added an order of Garlic fries for $5 to share. It was an adequate amount for both of us ad the chicken pieces are very small. The flavor on the chicken was light and crunchy. The garlic fries are really coated in the garlic so be ready; They pack a punch and I was pleasantly surprised. Not much in the way of drink options but they do have a small grocery area with a beer selection. They have some unique options like bulgogi cheesesteak that we will definitely try next time we come and they also have a bar with stools inside where you can sit and eat.

Mama Cho's has been on my must try list for a very long time. Thankfully for food delivery services, I was able to knock it off my list. There were a couple items I wanted to try. I was in search of a new Korean fusion burrito. My regular spot I would go to had been gone for years. I see that they do Korean fusion burritos. Via a delivery app, I went on to place an order. I ordered the following: - Bulgogi burrito - Bulgogi taco - Chicken nachos The order took about 45 minutes from start to delivery. Everything was packaged very well and hot. The burrito was full of flavor and delicious. The bulgogi was tender. Kimchi, black beans, and rice all wrapped in a flour tortilla. For me, it was missing a fried egg. Unfortunately, there was no option for that, but would love to see it on the menu in the future. The chicken nachos were very tasty as well. The tortilla chips were crispy and chicken juicy and tender. All this topped with sour cream, guacamole, refried beans and cheese. The bulgogi taco was solid. Bulgogi meat topped with pico de gallo, cheese and sour cream. I most definitely will need to try the other menu items next time! A missing void for Korean fusion burrito has been fulfilled.

The Kalbi burrito was good. I wished they offered spicy salsa instead of hot sauce lol. The taste is good. It was not a big as your arm but it was about almost two third of the arm. The price was a bit on the high side. It was a treat so I couldn't tell about service. It is one popular spot in Castro valley so give it a shot. They also have soju as well

Bimbibap rice bowl with bulgogi beef slices $15
    Vi T.

Located in a food court with about 4 other vendors, called the Lake Chabot Public Market. There's indoor and outside picnic table seating if you want to dine here after ordering. Plenty of parking on the private building lot too. I ordered the bimbibap ($15) with bulgogi beef and tried their Korean Fried chicken wings($10), which apparently only comes in a plate order that includes a bowl of rice and pickled/cubed daikon. Both dishes were tasty and good quality. I'll be back to try their kalbi beef short ribs the next time I am in the area.

    Kalbi Burger add French Fries
    Moji O.

Not going lie, I was expecting more from the burger. Flavors were sweet and strong. I guess for $13 I was expecting it to be bigger. I was still hungry after and will next time consider a double double lol This burger is an ingenious idea! Hats off to Mama Cho. Flavor was good so I will be back to try the take home meat.

Oakland kalbi short ribs Spicy pork KBBQ Plate

Great spot for some delicious bbq inside a super cute market hall! Mama Cho's is a local favorite and this was my first time going after hearing such good things about their food. The Oakland kalbi is $3 extra while LA short ribs are $4 so I had to go with Oakland since I haven't heard of it before. It was yummy - the side dishes were good too and we picked up some kimchi and packaged cold noodles for a later meal. Spicy pork was good too - though it wasn't all too spicy it was definitely enjoyable! My partner got the burrito and he thought it was great since the kimchi went well with the meat. Give it a try! They also have uncooked meats for purchase that they have already pre seasoned / marinated.

The order: Soy Garlic chicken wings -These wings are currently the Standard Bar which other Soy Garlic Korean Fried Chicken Wings are compared to. Medium Spicy Chicken Wings -The batter was well seasoned, and the spice takes a second or two to kick in. The spice level of medium is probably as hot as I would enjoy (normal enjoyable max spice level is hot Cheetos). To me, it is soy garlic with a kick up underlying spice. Sweet Potato Fries -A nice toasted sweetness on the outside and a very soft sweet potato inside. Goes great with the sweet and sour dipping sauce. Onion Rings -The batter on these were surprisingly tasty with a nice crunch to them. They weren't soggy and they had a delicious like taste to them (maybe corn batter). If you like onion rings, then these are worth a taste. Rice -Their rice was as perfect as rice can be. I always enjoy eating some rice with my chicken. The rice also came in handy to cool things down when eating the spicier wings.

My order came with bean sprouts, broccoli, fish cakes, potatoes, kimchi, eggplant, and tofu. My favorites were the stir fried fish cakes and the lightly sweetened potatoes. *Kimchi Jjigae: the broth carried a pleasantly fermented kimchi flavor. There was also a generous amount of soft tofu incorporated throughout the stew. This leaned more heavily into deeper, aged kimchi notes. *Mul Naengmyun: the chilled broth had a naturally tangy and slightly sweet profile, so the side of mustard felt necessary to sharpen the flavors further. The buckwheat noodles were pleasantly bouncy, though they had clumped together a bit at the bottom. Unfortunately, the toppings were the weakest part, as both the meat and egg were noticeably overcooked. *Corn Cheese: surprisingly mozzarella forward. The cheese was melted well and paired nicely with the bursts of sweetness from the corn. This complemented the hotter savory dishes especially well. Overall, this is a solid takeout option with efficient service and dependable packaging. I would still like to see more depth and refinement in some of the broths, but the foundation is definitely there.

When ordering, you have to order 2 plates minimum, but if you order pork, that's not included in the 2 plates. You'd have to order an additional 2 plates to mix & match. The server told us it's because you need a special cooking top for the pork so it doesn't cause a fire. Understandable, but still a bit disappointing. We opted just for the beef & seafood pancake. Beef was marinated well. Seafood pancake was alright. It came out last since it took the longest to come out. I felt there wasn't an equal ratio of seafood to green onion and just more green onion. It was a bit on the pricier side.

Since I hadn't been here for a few years and my driver got to incorrect place to celebrate his bday, I might as well revisit to see what this place was up to. Three stars will go for food only: spicy octopus, seafood pancake, and seafood soup. I also enjoyed the spicy kimchi, bean sprouts, regular seaweed and spicy seaweed. Jenny unnie was super nice, the kimchi was fresh and other banchan were perfectly seasoned. We tried their Galbi tang and bbq bulgogi. It was so good, the beef was tender and the soup bone broth was rich. We came with a large group of 30, they swiftly handled the request and seat us in no time. The food came out pretty quickly within 15mins. We are so satisfied with the service and quality! We will definitely be a regular here! Love this place.

In a humble strip mall with minimal decorations and a simplistic menu lies Tang's Haus, one of my…read morefavorites that I will return to time and time again and will recommend to anyone in the area. I have noticed that through the years more items have been added to the menu (now includes a back side!), but that does not compromise on the quality. The seolleongtang ($20) always comes out light, rich, and packed with umami flavor. For a dish with three components (broth, meat, noodles), there is nothing to hide behind, and each one is executed to perfection. Flaky salt is added to your own taste, which is always satisfying to scoop and stir in. Tang's Haus also features tableside service, from the cutting of their housemade kimchi to them packing up your leftovers. One of my favorite aspects of Tang's Haus, and I'm glad they continue to dedicate themselves to quality service after all these years. Check always comes with chocolates (Hershey, so good quality). I always leave satisfied and never feeling too heavy. This is your local Union City hidden gem.
