This is my local breakfast place, and I love it! I'm there most mornings, and have developed relationships with most of the employees. They are a fun group, and like to tease when you get to know them. Food is excellent (or I wouldn't return)! What I like about this operation is all the wait staff help each other. We had 4 buffet lunches here today ($11.85). I enjoyed all the options I tried and the food served was hot and fresh. They had a server for the buffet which was appreciated during covid. She sever was nice and polite and didn't mind you coming up for multiple trips. Would return! I also went the wrong way down the off-ramp like a previous reviewer. read more

Mama Jeans is not practicing social distancing but from what I'm told you can be a full capacity. So wear your own mask. The staff did have on mask. Ordered the biscuits and gravy and cheese grits. The biscuits and gravy were good. But the cheese grits were nothing to write home about. They currently have a buffet. Which in covid times I can't partake in. They have servers serving but the food is not covered when not being served. If you're looking for a cheap quick breakfast this is the stop for you. We visited for breakfast. The buffet appeared to be the draw for most diners at this restaurant but we typically do not enjoy the buffet experience. We ordered off of the menu. The French toast was very good. The grits were good and the bacon tasty. A huge surprise was the scrambled eggs were really bad. They were kind of like rubber. It's just like mama used to make if your mama opened a can and overcooked whatever was in it. The goods: my grilled flounder was nicely seasoned and cooked, the fried squash and hush puppies were delicious, and the service was ok The bads: everything is either frozen or comes from a can. My daughter's fried fish was way overcooked to the point of being burnt so it was inedible. My husband also wanted me to make sure to include that the ketchup was nasty. We aren't buffet people, 3/4 of us ordered off the menu only to find out that half our order came from the buffet. My son had the cafeteria style buffet and said it was fine, but he's easy to please. It's also a little pricey for what you get. We probably won't be back. read more

Visiting from Indiana, simply had to visit as my 98 year old momma is named Jean. Yes they spelled Mama wrong, but that's okay. The service was uber attentive and the food was wonderful. I went for a special ... chicken and waffle ... a favorite of mine when you add a little hot sauce. I got pecans on the waffle (which I didn't ask for - but all good). Driving down the highway in the south what do you do? Stop at a local spot! Well Mama Jean's is a stand out off the road. Definitely not "Dennys or Ihop" love it. From the street you know you were in for a treat. Upon walking in you could tell it was local spot full of regulars and travelers like myself. The epic part was that I was informed Mama Jean herself was tending the food bar. Great start to our vacation in the Carolina's - Greens, Okra, Fried Chicken and so much more. I went simple and had a BIG bowl of grits with toast and Okra of course! Our waitress very kind and patient with her Cali customers made it all go very well. The overall experience was perfect! We were trying out different "Southern Style" restaurants to pick one out to cater Kims birthday party. We sampled their fried chicken and pulled pork barbcue along with cole slaw and potato salad. The food was good though the chicken was a little more greasy than we like. We eventually picked another restaurant (Simply Southern, see review) to do the catering. But Mama Jeans is still good and would try it again when in the area. read more

We travel to South Carolina from New Jersey every year for the last twenty years. We accidentally found Mama Jeans while we were driving around, what a find. We've been going to MJ for about 10 years or more. MJ is always our first stop, the food is excellent and servers are outstanding . MJ is definitely a find. read more

This was my second time in Myrtle Beach and I and my family were looking for place close to where we could get good food and still feel like down home. So we ordered the breakfast buffet and there was a lot to chose from and it was very good. I had some waffles, eggs and the first trying grits cause being from the north we don't get grits. WOW! This has definitely turned into a favorite eating establishment whenever my family and I come to Myrtle Beach. On a recent trip we had heard about Mama Jean's so we figured to check it out. I decided to do the lunch buffet and their selection was very nice. I especially like the fact that they provided you with gloves when you went down the buffet line. On the buffet I got the fried chicken, turkey, the mac & cheese, the fried okra, biscuit, corn bread, mashed potatoes, and a banana pudding. All delicious! Very very upset. I've never left a bad comment about any restaurant EVER for the record. Today on the way back to town my wife and I go get the lunch buffet. The food is subpar except for the fried chicken. I get up to get a second round and try some new items just to get back to my seat and find out our table was given to one of the 'regulars'. Keep in mind my wife and I are two people of color. We let someone know what had happened and then come to find out NOBODY wants to claim these actions or apologize. I WILL NEVER BE BACK. The ONLY reason I give this a 4 is because some of the seating is super close together & since it gets packed quite often, that may be an issue for some BUT the food & staff are amazing! They have breakfast/lunch buffets along with regular meals to order, yum! (I'm not big on French toast, but theirs is amazing). Other than that, it's a good place to go. This is where the locals go. The food is over priced. My grandson and I ordered the buffet. The chicken was about the only thing we could eat. The service is terrible after your order is taken. I ordered a meal to go and it had one item that was correct. The other two items was not what I ordered. My wife would not eat the meal. It was thrown in the trash with a cost of $12 for one meat and two vegetables. When I called back to let them know that they had made a mistake, the waitress knew she had it wrong. The waitress don't know the difference in dark meat chicken and white meat chicken. She substituted corn for mac & cheese. The cabbage had a ham or bacon taste. Could not taste the cabbage. The manager told me when I went back she would make it right. The Problem is, I don't plan to go back. The restaurant has seat your self guideline's. Everyone stands around waiting on a table to open up. When the restaurant is fully occupied, it makes it very difficult to figure out who gets the next open table. Once you are seated the waitress will get your tea and take your order. If it is buffet, you get in line and help yourself. The atmosphere is like a country diner. I would not recommend this restaurant. It is very unorganized. read more

Breakfast buffet lots of options four or five different types of breakfast meats fruit homemade biscuits gravy and all the fixings I do not eat eggs and they have non egg options I had the oatmeal which is not instant and toast. Service is wonderful there was somebody coming by literally every minute to check on coffee or if you needed anything.
