I have gone to Mama Kim's three times already and it is fair to say that I love this little hole in the wall poke place. You have eat there if you can! The bowls are made to order and you have the option of having complementary miso soup with your food. You can eat inside or outside and I prefer outside because there are tables with chairs versus the counter area with stools. I've tried the BYOB poke, which is really fun to make because you choose your poke, sides, and toppings. But it can get expensive because the pokes made with Ahi are market price so it could be a couple dollars more. I got a two choice poke bowl with creamy wasabi ahi and spicy ahi, tamago, crab salad, and ocean salad for my sides, and all the toppings and it came out close to $18. No regrets though! It was so good. I've also tried their specialty bowls such as the Crunch Bowl- shrimp tempura had the perfect crunch, the Red Dragon Bowl, and by far my favorite, the Hamachi-Jalapeño bowl (which I sampled from my husband the last time I went). Oh my goodness the simplicity of hamachi in ponzu sauce with a slice of jalapeño for each slice of hamachi is perfection. I have to get my own bowl the next time I go back. Highly recommend! I don't recommend the spicy ahi poke don because the poke had a bitter after taste. It was really weird. Finally got to try this place out! It's located in the kaheka professional building on the s king st side around the corner from longs. I think they don't validate so it's best to try and find street parking in front of longs side. I think they are only pen til 3pm?. So hurriedly went at got there around 1, it wasn't crazy busy but had a few people waiting. I decided on a build your own bowl, menu easy to read and cashiers friendly I was bale to ask their suggestions. I got the two choice bowl of spicy ahi and creamy Wasabi ahi. I noticed it said minced next to the spicy ahi and I asked about it and he said they actually have minced and option for cubed! Great! because I don't prefer the minced up type so I got the spicy ahi and Wasabi ahi cubed. I got sushi rice and you can choose up to three sides (add on more than three is extra $) and got crab salad, tamago and takuan. Free toppings I got garlic chips and fried onions. Two choice I believe was $15.95 and once choice was $12.95. On the side wall by the cashier they have some misc bento items like fried mandoo and they had $5 salmon collar? with rice bento! My mom got that and she loved it. My bowl was good portion! I think they give a lot of rice but it was good ratio with the ahi poke. The spicy ahi was so good - not too salty or overly dressed and the heat was just right! Also loved the Wasabi ahi!! Wasabi not over powering and it balanced with that creaminess it was so good! Both I would get on its own as a one choice. I liked the crab salad but it was borderline too salty but was good enough when mixed with everything else. The tamago was just two pieces of it but was good. I don't think I would get the takuan next time as it was more pickled and not as sweet as I was expecting but it is good pickles just I don't like too much salty things. I will try the other sides and see which combination works well. They also have other bowls that I would like to try like the jalapeños Hamachi and their unagi bowl. I came here with my friend that was visiting from out of state. She wanted to try poke and I've been wanting to try here for a while so it was a perfect opportunity and She loved it! It's a very small shop but there are seats outside and some inside and when you dine in they give you miso soup! It's not a fancy place at all but the tables are clean and it was perfect for a casual hang out/eating spot. Parking was pretty easy to find. I parked on the street and put some coins in and walked over. It wasn't hard to find parking since it was a weekday lunch hour. Recently discovered Mama Kim's sushi and chirashi bowls and let me tell you, they are amazing! The fish is fresh, their flavor combos are tasty (hello hamachi jalapeño) and the service is great! Our favorites are salmon ikura, seared garlic salmon and hamachi jalapeño! Parking is a little tight, with metered street parking around the corner in front of Longs. Two minutes for Punahou grads and one minute for Iolani grads. Yo Mama Kim's menu is so appetizing, it took a long time for a public school grad like me, to read through the whole menu. I am one of those friends in your group that is responsible for gathering the order and call it in but I didn't have to pick it up so I can only comment on the ordering process and the food. Based on Instagram recommendations, I called the order in advance. The lady on the phone was very courteous and friendly. My order was all "build your own bowl". My recommendation is: follow the process per menu and start with how many protein in the bowl. It was a breeze by the time I got to the 3rd bowl. Practice makes perfect right? Food: order the mashed Okinawan sweet potato if they have it. It's mixed with coconut milk... Sooo good! The fish is fresh and the toppings balance the bowl so well. How have I not reviewed this place yet? I come here like 1x a week because it's that addicting!! My favorite is the seared scallop bowl w/ add on of ikura! Delicious and a MUST TRY! It's a very small shop so it's seems very compact with just 2 customer's inside. They do seating inside (almost like a bar top that sits 4 people) and a couple or tables outside. For the food, they have build your own poke bowls, seared bowls with rice, and their specialty bowls. They also have kim chee for sale in containers, I'm guessing they make it in house. The first time we went, I had the jalepino Hamachi which was amazing!!! Really fresh Hamachi on a bed of sushi rice and the Hamachi topped with jalepino and tobiko. My Husband had the seared salmon which was also very delicious. My Stepson built his own poke bowl which he said was okay. The second time we went, I decided to try the seared scallops but too my surprise, was very garlicky. I couldn't taste anything but the garlic so that was kind of disappointing because of how good the seared salmon was. I'm always looking for a new place for my poke bowls so of course I had to check out Mama Kim's after seeing it pop up all over my Instagram and Yelp. Location is not the best, although it is very centrally located (on the corner of Kaheka and King). Why is location not the best then? Simply because there is not much parking in the area. If you luck out and find street parking, then you have to make sure you have coins for the meter (if memory serves me, the meters in this area don't currently take cards - I could be mistaken though). I don't usually carry coins (or cash to be frank) on me so I had to rummage around for a few quarters to feed the meter. To make matters worse, they're not even open on Sundays, the one day where you don't have to worry about looking for coins to feed the meters. Moving on to the food, I decided to order a crunch bowl (shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, crab salad, unagi sauce, bubu arare, and garlic chips), and phoned in my order once I found parking. I found the bowl to be a little on the pricey side at $13 a bowl, but definitely not outrageous (fish to rice ratio was a bit lacking). I'm happy to say that the shrimp tempura was still nice and crispy/crunchy, but I'm not sure if I would get this bowl again in the future. Half of the bowl was covered with spicy tuna and the other half crab salad. Personally I would have preferred more spicy tuna and less crab salad but that's just a personal preference. Overall I would definitely go back, but probably not alone. I really wanted to phone my order in ahead of time but was afraid I wouldn't find parking. If I had a buddy, I could just run in and out. I've never really come across places that make seared salmon bowls. This bowl has a special garlic sauce on it that is kind of sweet and it completes the dish! I LOVE neba neba bowls! And this one is definitely one of the freshest ones I've ever had. This neba neba bowl came with nametake(prepared mushrooms) which I am not really a fan of so they let me sub it out for a different topping free of charge! You can really taste the freshness in every bite! My boyfriend ordered the deluxe chirashi. He's not really a good critic but he did admit that it was worth it. went right after they opened, they hadnt even put the menu boards up on the monitors yet lol lucked out with parking. as soon as i turned down the street the first metered stall was open AND it still had 15min left!! got the hamachi jalapeno, on salad, and added (3) piece of salmon for like $5 more. love that you can customize your order without any issues. made fresh to order, and since i was so early i didnt have to wait very long. presentation and taste were on point. because i got it on salad they asked if i wanted dressing, and they had a ton of different ones to choose from. but since the hamachi already had a ponzu sauce, i didnt even need to use the dressing. a lot of flavor. nice cuts of sashimi. tasted pretty fresh too, though the ponzu masked it a little bit. not much heat though since the jalapeno slivers were really small. chirashi looked good, and i had debated getting that or the hamachi. next time i'll try the chirashi. overall it was tasty. a little pricey though compared to other places. parking is also hard unless you luck out like i did. staff was super friendly and helpful though! they do have some outdoor seats so you can enjoy your meal there. also a nice selection of banchan available in the cold storage areas, and some fried foods on the shelf by the door. i think was too early though for any of that to be ready since they only had 2 things out. read more

Looking for a new local place to get some poke/sushi bowl? Mama Kim's got the hookups! Had to check this place out after seeing them reviewed on Yelp, and I have to admit this was one of the better places I've been for any fish. Comparing these bowls to something from Kozo, Domo, or even Tamuras and Taniokas, Mama Kim's is probably one of my new favorite places now. Ordered both a Garlic seared salmon bowl, and one crunch bowl. Both portions are amazing for the prices, and the fish is super super fresh. Especially for my Seared salmon bowl, I saw them cut the fish right in front of me; prepared and torched it too! Both bowls were great and the flavor was something that can't be beat. I also got a wasabi Tako on the side (hard to find these around the island) and was pleasantly surprised by how well it was prepared. But if that's not your taste, they also have kimchee, seaweed salad, and other great sides you can choose from when you're there. Located on King Street, parking may be the hardest thing. My best suggestion would be to park on the street if you can, or find parking nearby in an open lot. I would call in beforehand too, probably would be best to get in and out so you can be on your way to start eating. Either way, they make it quick (but with quality) so no matter what you choose you're getting your money's worth. Staff is really friendly, and they all seem to communicate well with each other so for me, that's always a big plus to a smaller business like theirs. Always with fresh ingredients, I can't think of a better place to get a fresh and healthy poke bowl. Saw they had king salmon special so went by before the kolohe kai concert. Very, very clean spot in a little complex that wasnt that great across from a homeless park. Really good COVID precautions and friendly service. I also splurged and got a slow cooked egg on top (additional $1) which was the best decision I've ever made because it was cooked perfectly and DELICIOUS!! The fish was extremely fresh and perfectly seasoned. The spicy tuna there is my new favorite! My husband decided to get one of their signature bowls, the hamachi jalapeño and it totally makes sense why it's one of their most popular bowls! One of my friends posted a picture of their food on their IG story and tagged this restaurant. I immediately did some IG snooping and wanted to check it out ASAP before I flew back for school. Luckily, a friend was available for dinner the same day hehe. It's located in the Kaheka Professional Center where Longs Drugs (CVS Health) is located but facing South King Street. There's no parking structure and minimal street parking. There's a lot across the street on Kaheka Street, but it's paid parking, I believe. My friend and I both got the Crunch Bowl which contained shrimp tempura, spicy ahi, crab salad topped with unagi sauce, bubu arare, and garlic chips. My friend also got their combo inari rolls (which consisted the exact same toppings as our bowl excluding the tempura smh). The spicy ahi and crab salad were nicely layered on top of rice (fresh and not hot either!). My toppings weren't cooked by the rice which was great. First bite into my tempura, WOW. IT'S STILL CRUNCHY after 15-20 mins! That means this was freshly made yesssss. It was also not oily or hot either. WOW, I wanna learn how to make tempura like this! The spicy ahi wasn't exactly spicy ahi. It was more on the sweetish end (not sure if that was the intention). Wished it was a tad spicier. The crab salad wasn't drenched in mayo which didn't make the crab soggy. I really enjoyed this bowl! I think the fact that there was bubu arare and garlic chips put in the mixture made the bowl even better. The taste of those two mixed really well. Aside from their menu, they also sell their homemade kimchi (cabbage, cucumbers) and inari bombs as mentioned earlier! The kimchi looks freshly made and spicy! I definitely will be back to try their garlic seared and sashimi bowls. Price isn't too bad for the amount of food you get too! read more

Located in Kakaako the parking is behind the building It can be a little difficult to navigate where it is but it's on the corner of S. King St. The place is very small I suggest ordering out for pick up. I loved everything we ordered here and will definitely come back to try other menu items. The poke bowls were unique the fish is fresh, the service was great. There are so many different varieties of bowls to choose from it can be overwhelming but take your time to read over the menu before you arrive or order online. See ya all there read more

Notice they opened today so went by to check it out!!! Their specialty bowls are the way to go! Although their pokes are *chef kisses* immaculate! My favorites are their spicy tuna, and salmon and ikura bowl The seared donburis seem to be their popular item, I over heard other guests ordering those bowls so I will try the next time I go! They have nice air conditioned seating inside, and some outdoor seating and it's nice because it's tucked away so there are barely any major foot traffic. read more
