Notice they opened today so went by to check it out!!! Their specialty bowls are the way to go! Although their pokes are *chef kisses* immaculate! We finally got to try this place out! Mama Kim's has been on our list to try for a while now but the short store hours is what's kept us from getting here sooner...totally worth the wait though! The fish is FRESH FRESH! We got the Jalapeño Hamachi and the Spicy Ahi (ultimate? Can't remember what it's called) and both were amazing! The Hamachi was cut fresh when we arrived which was nice to see versus some other places where the precut fish dries out a bit. The flavors of both were very well balanced definitely a notch (or two, or three) above other poke bowl shops. In area for work and had to grab a quick lunch. One thing to note is google maps shows it's off of Kaheka. It's actually facing S King. A little hard to find. At no fault to the restaurant. Got the spicy salmon and tuna poke. Topped it off with all of the toppings. Experience was great from start to finish. Order came out quick staff super friendly. Presentation of food and inside was clean. The poke bowl was really good. Toppings added a great crunch of texture. If you like spicy, I would say this was about a 4 on spice level. Worth coming to if you're in the area. Don't think it's worth a long drive out of your way get here. Come support them! You will not be disappointed. read more

King St. The place is very small I suggest ordering out for pick up. I loved everything we ordered here and will definitely come back to try other menu items. My daughter recommended this place and it did not disappoint. It's my new favorite poke place. Only trouble is finding street parking. I ordered the build your own bowl with Maguro ahi, Hawaiian style poke, kim Chee daikon, won bok kim Chee, seaweed, sushi rice, and all the toppings that they offer for free. I also had to get a side order of shrimp tempura. Nicely fried to the point that you could even eat the tail! I was surprised when you dine in they included a bowl of miso soup too. I grew up hanging out in this area across from the old police station since my Dad's office was across the street. Have been wanting to try this place and finally went.. and I think it has become one of the go-to's for poke bowls. The garlic salmon melts in your mouth, packed with flavor, and included crunchy flakes on top for added texture. The unagi was really flavorful and the spicy ahi had a mild spice flavor, wasn't too spicy, which I prefer because I can actually enjoy the taste of the ahi. 10/10 would recommend! Food in this place is 5/5. I got the crunch bowl (fried shrimp, spicy salmon, and crab salad). Fish quality was very good and everything else tasted awesome. The portion isn't huge but it was enough for me to get full! My husband hates fish and especially poke bowls but he tried this one and said it was fire The only thing is that I asked if it was possible to sub spicy tuna with something else, and the guy at the counter told me no. Mama kim is so good. Took my mother here for lunch and she loved it. She's a very picky eater but she said her Red Dragon bowl was very good. Everything in the bowl was fresh and delicious. I ordered the byob 2 choices. I had a choice of spicy ahi and hawaiian ahi. Both were fresh and flavorful. I'm so glad I finally got the time to try this place out. Service was friendly and great. Portion is a key ingredient in customer satisfaction. Quality is important - but quantity needs to be on point as well. The protein / quantity was seriously lacking. I had the most expensive item on the menu ($18 for the sashimi a salad) and the protein quantity was seriously lacking. As well only a single small cup of gojuchang sauce was provided for dressing. The result? Underwhelming single flavor dish largely comprised of salad and rice with a scant amount of fish. My wife had a bowl that was lacking in quantity as well. To be fair the place is clean, the fish was fresh, the menu was extensive. But for the price? No value. read more

My go-to is the chirashi bowl, but they also make hand rolls and other delicious items. Employees are kind and friendly! Each time I've gone in, they were prompt, friendly, and took my order accurately. There is indoor seating (3-4 chairs) and outdoor seating right outside their doors for a fresh breeze. I was notified about this place because it was recommended to me on yelp's algorithm. Out of curiosity I looked over their menu. The menu looked good and the reviews were positive. Also it was close to where my parents live. Great. I decided to take my mom here because she loves chirashi. So I ordered two chirashi deluxes for us. My mom was impressed with the quality and taste of the food. She's an older asian lady that doesn't like local asian cuisine. So her liking their chirashi was a big deal. I too enjoyed their chirashi because the fish slices were thick and the rice was cooked well. My mom liked it so much she was able to convince my sister to walk over and buy another chirashi deluxe for her a few days later. That's how good she thought it was. PARKING: I parked in the paid lot kind of across from this building facing Longs on the right hand side of the street since there was no street parking available. You pre-pay at the machine and put your paid ticket on your dashboard. I believe it was $1 per hour. FOOD: I ordered the Crunch Bowl (Shrimp Tempura, Spicy Ahi and Crab Salad) and my hubby got the spicy ahi bowl. It was delish and fresh!! I do want to try more of the options/daily specials as well as their kimchee, which I heard they make in house. PRO TIP #1: I highly recommend phone ordering so that you guarantee what you want is available! I called shortly to order same day after they opened. They have really great service. Food is made to order and very little wait time. I believe they take phone orders too. Super tiny hole in the wall place near kaheka that is definitely worth checking out! I heard about mama Kim's from a friend and finally got to try it the other week. Let's just say it did not disappoint! The workers were so friendly and the food was so fresh and yummy! I got the crunch bowl and my bf got the jalapeño hamachi bowl. They were both soooo good! Ever since I saw my friends' postings about this new poke bowl place Several weeks ago I've been eagerly awaiting for the opportunity to try them. Last Sun when I was hangry after a mid-morning whale watch sailing I was very excited (and hangry) to stop by but was so sad they were closed on Sundays . I don't live nor work around town so had to wait for another chance. Luckily I was needing to do some errands this past Sat so made another attempt and was ecstatic they were open! And no line (missed a big group by 5 min ). I had their Chirashi $15 and my husband decided to BYOB (Build Your Own Bowl) with Shoyu Ahi poke, crab salad, kimchee and cucumber salad topped with furikake $11.95. Both were very fresh tasting and filling. Prices pretty reasonable too. Looking forward to returning and trying some of their other menu items. Mama Kim's also sells her hone made kimchee in packaged containers. We parked in a metered space on Kaheka. Not sure if there is free or validated parking available. They are located at the ground floor of the Kaheka Prodessional building on corner of King and Kaheka. read more

After seeing amazing reviews for this place, my friends and I decided to try it out. Mama kim's is tucked away in the corner of South king street and kaheka. When you walk in the shop looks very clean and neat. They also have homemade kimchee you can purchase and small appetizers like chicken karaage too. For parking it is probably best to street park and walk over. Hamachi Jalapeno $13 - I was most excited to try this because I love eating hamachi with ponzu sauce. You get six generous pieces of hamachi on top of rice ginger, some onions, and wasabi on the side. The japaleno gives a nice crunch and kick but its not too spicy. The fish was fresh but I found myself wanting more flavor. The ponzu was very light so I wished they added more sauce to it. Maybe next time I can ask for extra ponzu sauce on the side. Garlic seared scallop $14 - I never had seared scallop for a poke bowl before. The scallops were really fresh and soft and my bf really liked it. For me personally, I had to add some soy sauce for some extra flavor which they id provide. Poke bowl (two choice) $13.95 - The bowl actually costed one more dollar because of the market price for fish that day was increased but that was understandable. The two choice I tried was wasabi masago and spicy ahi. Both were really flavorful and fresh. I really like how you can also pick up to three sides and topping are free. Overall, Mama Kim's uses really fresh fish for their poke. The price for the bowls are a bit more expensive tho. Service was great! read more
