This is one of my favorite places for drinks so my husband and I went today to have some. We sat down at the bar and my husband asked if they could make a mojito (which is not an unreasonable request at a place that also serves margs) and the bartender dismissively said no and pointed to the menu and said "this is all we have" and proceeded to rush away without asking what I wanted or offering suggestions. I am not sure if it was busy (didn't look too slammed) or if we are young adults so he assumed we wouldn't tip him.... Pretty disappointing so we took our money elsewhere! First time trying Mama Tigre and we will definitely be back. We went around 5:30pm on Saturday night thinking it wouldn't be too crowded. Boy were we wrong! The place was packed, which is always a good sign. We didn't have time to wait an hour for a table, so we opted to sit at the bar for dinner. We weren't the only ones with the same idea. The space had high tops that were all already occupied and then a bar which sat about 12 or so. We were given menus, water and chips with salsa upon sitting down. Chips were fresh and while I'm not a huge fan of salsa, this salsa was delicious. It did take a while for the bartender to take our drink and food orders, but understandable bc so many people were hanging around waiting for their tables. Only suggestion was they definitely need more help behind the bar on Saturday nights. I ordered the steak and cheese tacos and my husband had the tacos de carne asada. Both dishes were amazing, meat was delicious and well seasoned. We were both stunned by the amount of meat per taco. Each meal came with 2 corn tortilla tacos, the tacos had double tortillas bc we all know that's a must with corn tortillas. The dish also included beans, red rice and a salsa. Very filling! Who would've thought Indian and Tex-Mex could go together SO well? Mama Tigre has proved it! We stopped by here pretty early on a Friday night and they were already PACKED. Upon being seated, we were immediately served with chips and salsa (which were bomb). We ordered the lamb birria (as a recommendation per the waitress) and the masala enchiladas. Both were absolutely fantastic. I'm not a huge lamb person, but the spices and aromatics in the lamb birria were sooo good. The naan was great with the lamb and the sides. I would love to see a taco take on this since the naan was a bit thick to the go with the birria--nevertheless, it was great. The masala enchiladas were an obvious hit. We ordered this as per recommendation from yelp and our friends and this did not disappoint! I only wish that there was more masala spice in it. False Closing Time & Rude Service: Walked in at 8:35 PM, even though the kitchen is advertised to close at 9:15. In reality, it seems they start shutting everything down closer to 8 PM. The food: Tropical Ceviche, Masala Fries, and Chicken Tikka Taco - The Tropical Ceviche was very good and flavorful. It had a balanced level of acidity which I enjoyed and was bursting with flavor through the different ingredients. - The Masala Fries were good too. Standard fries with a light coating of masala powder. Albeit, while good, it would've been nice if the entire batch was mixed instead of only having a coating on the surface. - The Chicken Tikka Tacos were good. They were filling, but something was just off flavor-wise and I couldn't put my finger on it. - Not pictured are the Pomegranate and Tamarind margaritas which were good. Went to Mama Tigre last night and forgot to check in!. I worked in Burke, VA, for 20 years but I now live in Southern Maryland. We get together every quarter for laughs and good times. 10 of this time with a reservation at 6 pm. I got there early and sat at the bar and had an amazing House Margarita while I waited. NOT come here without a reservation. This place is popular, the food is good and the crowd in the restaurant is fun and lively. It's a Mexican and Indian fusion restaurant. I ordered the Kathi Roll and Masala Fries. It was amazing! But be careful with the fries as the topping is spicy. Everyone enjoyed the food. My mom and I went here for a late birthday dinner. Usually the food and service are nice but that night was awful. We were waiting what felt like 15 minutes just to be greeted, but never were. My mom had to go inside and ask kindly if anyone knew who are server was, to which this girl, who would be our server, gave her the most disgusting and ugly look I've ever seen. We were genuinely taken aback especially me since I forget people like that exist. Later, we put in our drinks and food and it was nice. We started with the Kati Roll with paneer instead of chicken, which tied for first place with our meals. It is just one roll, but large and cut in half. Well worth the price. Waited 45 min the second time around 6:30pm, but no wait at 5pm the first time. Despite the wait, still so worth it. Muskan was our waitress the second time and she was wonderful! So sweet, and gave so many good recommendations. All the food came out really good, and the margaritas were delicious as well. I had the butter chicken enchilada special for December, and it was very delicious but my favorite was definitely the paneer con pablone. It was so creamy and flavorful without being too rich, and the paneer was crispy and had almost a crunchy texture to it. It was cooked really well. Also the Baja shrimp was charred so well, the mangos were also crunchy with the shrimp from the char and so delicious. Harry was also a great team leader! It was nice closing out the night chatting with him. All the staff we talked to tonight were amazing, and the people made the whole experience that much better. To begin, WOW DELICIOUS!! the food was phenomenal, everything was so flavorful and I just loved the mix between Indian and Mexican - I will 100% be going again and again :) We started with the masala nachos which were such a perfect start to this meal! Super unique, super tasty new local favorite spot. We went on a Monday night and it was packed! People love this place, and it's clear why. NoVa desperately needs places like this, and the culinary scene is on its way there. I'm seeing complaints on here that service was slow, but even on this busy Monday night we received extremely fast service, and our food came out quickly. Indian Mexican fusion is exactly as delicious as it sounds. Our fav was the Masala Queso (be careful, it's spicy!). The Masala Chicken fajitas were also amazing, though we would have loved it even more with a sauce. The drinks were delicious, and I haven't had a simple Marg as good as this since we moved from NYC. My wife also got a frozen marg for her second drink which was HUGE. Prices are reasonable, and there are daily specials. Next time, we're going to try the Monday Happy Hour! We've already told our friends that we'll have to all make an outing here very soon. The only possible complaint I can think of is the location, which is apparently where an old Bob Evans used to be, but I'm happy to go out of my way for this place.
