I had the POllO POBLANO which is strips of grilled chicken in a creamy chipotle tikka sauce with roasted peppers and onions. Served with tortillas, house rice, black beans, crema & mango-pineapple. Delicious and enough food for a second meal the next day. My wife had the CAULIFLOWER TACOS ....Spice rubbed crispy cauliflower, exotic tikka masala sauce, sesame seeds, queso fresco, spicy mango chutney, cilantro. In corn tortillas with cheese. She said it was one of the best veggie options she has ever had at a Mexican restaurant. As the designated driver, I had a yummy Mango Lassi. Let me start off by saying I usually do a to go order at least 2-3x a month. The quality of the food has really gone down hill lately. The past 3 times I've ordered the food has been completely different. I ordered butter chicken entree and it didn't come with basmati rice like it was supposed to and it ruined the meal obviously because Spanish rice doesn't go with butter chicken. Today I ordered chicken enchilada and taquito and the enchilada is filled with things that normally aren't in it and it has a green sauce on it. We ended up with a variety of food but we definitely had a few stand outs which included the tikka wings, lamb Birria, and camarones masala. I can confidently say this is the best Indian Mexican food I have had at a restaurant. I got their masala burrito and it was a great blend of Indian masala flavors with a Mexican flare. The nachos were also good but I heard the fries are better (for next time). Their salsa also tasted fresh and felt homemade. The inside is quite busy and we were there on a Wednesday so plan accordingly. Seating is similar to your typical Mexican restaurant. Plenty of screens if you are interested in watching a game. I made a joke when driving up "we're going to eat lunch at USPS!" Anyways, the food is quite flavorful. The lamb birria was okay. It is a bit spicy, which I like, but I wouldn't say it was the best Birria I had. The Carne Asada was done really well. The beef was tender. The Masala fries was simple, but great to snack on. The Indian/Mexican flavors are amazing together! They also have a nice amount of vegetarian options that I want to try next time. I really wanted the lamb birria and it was such a good choice. With the added spices it just takes the birria to the next level My husband had the chicken mole which he also enjoyed, but it was so much food we had to take some to go. The chips and salsa they give for free tastes so fresh and flavorful we couldn't stop eating it, but we had to stop because we got the guacamole which was also fresh and yummy. The service was really good, you just flip a card when you need service and they are always walking around so they see it pretty quickly. Definitely busy on a Tuesday! We got the spicy tikka veggie fajita for one and two house margaritas on happy hour. The margarita house mix is extremely sweet but that could just be a preference of mine. Host stand was friendly, our waiter was awesome and answered questions for us. Drinks came out quick, selection on IPAs were limited, lots of margaritas. Blood orange margarita was good. Came here after work and enjoyed some of their happy hour items along with entrees. The ambiance is beautiful with Latin/Indian inspired decor and images. It was very spacious and had various combinations of high tops, booths, and tables. To start, I tucked into their chips and salsa - super flavorful and provided a great start to the meal. Tasted like a classic Indian side salad with cilantro which was refreshing. The Butter Chicken Tacos were INCREDIBLE! The roti canai, Malaysian style roti used in the dish, provided a light sweetness to compliment the flavorful tandoori roasted chicken with a spicy butter chicken sauce. The vegetables on top of the tacos were so fresh and crisp to provide a lovely crunch to each bite. I'm still dreaming about them to this day! The star of the show was the Masala Burrito! Such a large, well cooked dish that will leave you so full and satisfied with its bursts of flavor. All vegetables, rice, and meat were blended together well and allowed for the cheese topping to coat the burrito perfectly. Blown away by this place. I think because of it being fusion my expectations were pretty low. We got an assortment of food including masala fries, ceviche, camarone masala, tikka tacos. All food was highly talked about by myself and everyone in my party. I love that they give you free chips and salsa. The shrimp masala was beyond words. I loved the flavor. Service by the bartender was friendly and quick. Place can get busy so come early. Recommend sitting at the bar to get faster service; although it can take a while for the bar area to get cleaned off. Otherwise, there's plenty of high tops available elsewhere. Mama Tigre was a pleasant surprise to me! Perhaps the idea of Mexican/Indian fusion was really odd but at the same time so so so daring that I have to applaud the restaurant for being something unique to the DMV Area. This place is full of personality; there's lots of cool decorations on the wall including a cool mural. Inside it's very vibrant with the amount of people chattering at the bar and even the dining section. I was pleasantly surprised that there was so many people here wanting to try the same food. I went here around 7 PM and had to wait at least half an hour for a table. The wait didn't feel so bad as I passed the time by reading their menu and just talking to the staff. They are really friendly and even helped me figure out what to eat too. When I did get sat down, I got a tray of chips and salsa to start off with. A good sign that I won't feel like I have to wait even more for an appetizer or longer for the entrée to come out. My waiter was very nice and kind and even helped narrow down what I would probably get since it's my first time here. I ended up getting Lamb Birria, as I personally have never tried it out before. It came out in two different plates, one plate having basmati rice, onions, lettuce with chunks of fruit and corn, with Naan Bread. The other plate was the Consommé, a stew with herbs and spices with jalapenos and birria itself in it. There's no real way to eat it, so I just did what felt best for me. Add the birria and a bit of the consommé and mix it in with the rice. I also just dipped the Naan Bread by itself into the broth and ate it as is. There is a lot going on here but I can really say this; the birria is delicious by itself and is very tender. It was great with the basmati rice and when adding that along side with vegetables I enjoyed it with all the different components coming together. The Naan... probably one of the best Naans I ever ate in my life. I wish I ordered more to order to dip for the Consommé in. The dessert was also really good too. Simple yet effective I got Churros. Rolled in cinnamon sugar, these fried delights are just also equally good as the entrée. Caramel, Chocolate Syrup and Whipped Cream also makes this stand out more aesthetically in my opinion too. Overall I felt like the prices were on point, the quality of the food was extremely well, and I definitely enjoyed my time here at Mama Tigre. Another person at the table had ordered a burrito, and that one burrito looked much more filling and delicious than my three enchiladas. I will definitely try that next time. I had to ask someone at my table to physically move it away from me so that I would stop eating it :) Ambiance: The decor was a vibrant mix that reflected the restaurants Indo - Mexican features. Lighting was a soft yellow that went well with the light brown wooden floors and furniture. Service: I came in on a Saturday night with a party of 20. Acknowledging that Mama Tigre is a very popular place, and gets extremely busy on weekends, our group wasn't seated for more than an hour after our reservation time. The place was super packed, and there were a lot of people standing inside by and around the corner where the front and side entrances are. It was difficult for servers to get through and deliver food to the tables. A gentlemen who seemed like a manager, continued to tell us that we would be seated in 10 minutes - which did not happen. By the time we were seated, a lot of us were hangry. We had one server for 20 people, and received our food close to 45 minutes after being seated. Much kudos and respect for our server who handled our orders on an already high stress evening, while maintaining complete professionalism. I would suggest management at Mama Tigre to rethink the Standard Operating Procedures for handling reservations and guest overflow. Price: The price for the quality, quantity, and taste of the food is fair and affordable. This is truly one of the most unique fusion restaurants that I have been to - Indian and Mexican, inspired by the Indian chef's travels and culinary studies in Mexico. The menu has an innovative blend of Indian and Mexican elements, with mainly an infusion of Indian spices, sauces and preparations into Mexican dishes like mole, enchiladas, and fajitas. The drinks menu is even more innovative with the spices and flavors of both cuisines infused into some very fun and flavorful cocktails. Probably hands down, my favorite dish was the Desi Tres Leches, which was a light tres leches soaked in rosewater pistachio milk. Like no other tres leches, and a true fusion of Mexican and indican cooking which showcases both. The masala infused sauces and the tikka chicken dishes also have this same mixture of culinary fun, making a traditional Mexican dish into something different and also recognizable at the same time. This is a fun and lively place with attentive servers helping families with 3 generations in attendance celebrating a birthday or a couple on a date or a family of three enjoying a memorable dinner at the bar. There are nooks and crannies around the restaurant that allow tables to almost feel as though they are in a private room while still having the vibe or a brightly decorated and strongly themed interior. If I ever move away from NOVA, this would be one of the restaurants that I will pine for as there has never been this combination of Mexican and Indian food that I have ever come across. I shared the butter chicken enchiladas and the butter chicken tacos with someone else, and they were tasty, and much bigger than I thought they would be. I especially liked the butter chicken enchiladas, which weren't like traditional enchiladas in that they weren't rolled up, but it was super cheesy and saucy. The butter chicken tacos were solid as well, but I wish it had more sauce on it, as it was a little dry in my opinion. But overall, they were both great. The service was pretty solid. Our server was very friendly and energetic, and he checked up on us frequently. Apparently reservations can't be made on weekends unless it is a big party, but if you do have a bigger party, I definitely recommend a reservation. It was pretty busy, but the space is big.
