I have travelled around Hawaii at a few islands and have not had one real Mai Tai. Every version is full of Random 'tropical juices' and they still have the audacity to call it a Mai Tai. This is the first Mai Tai in all of Hawaii I have had that is a real Mai Tai. The bartender showed me the ingredients he used and I was impressed. High quality Smith & Cross rum as well as a macadamia nut based orgeat. It tasted perfect and was not full of any random juices. I am saddened every time I order one and expect an actual Mai Tai but this reaffirmed my faith in cocktail culture. The view and traditional tiki decor is also perfect. My friend and I went to the Lydgate beach to swim. We noticed this bar that was on the Hilton Garden property. We checked out of our hotel at the Sheraton and we were just trying to kill some time so we went and got some drinks only after the beach. We ordered the Ali'i Tai (pretty good), Kool in Kauai (like a minty gingery taste), and Shipwrecked (they literally smoke your drink in front of you using some kinda box and torch). We didn't order any food because we weren't hungry. Our bartender, Mo is super cool and helpful. This is a fun tiki themed food stand. Ironically, there are not a lot of tiki themed restaurants in Hawaii (at least in Oahu and Kauai) so this was a fun find. The menu had a good selection of tiki drinks like their own take on a mai tai and painkiller. The Mai tai was tasty. The burger was delicious as well. There is a pineapple relish they add that really makes this burger special. However it took almost an hour to get our order. I know it's tough on the islands right now but it would have been nice to at least been warned about a wait longer than 30 minutes. Other than that, it was a great experience. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wailua, Kaua'i for my Son's wedding and was looking for somewhere to meet up with my Besties. I was so hungry and Mamahune's was the only thing open at the time. The food was basic. Burger was okay, not juicy. Skip the nachos, barely any pork. The truffle fries were delicious. The seating was uncomfortable, adirondack chairs are not for the tall. We sat uncomfortably at the fire pit with zero flame. Not enough tables. No one greets you at the entrance, you have to stand there until you get someone's attention. The daiquiri was not strong, cost $40, and comes with paper straws. We didn't expect paper straws because everywhere else on the island offers plastic. Some of the lighting was out, the music had commercials. There are plenty of other restaurants to choose from but many close at 9.
