Fun, coffee shop, where you can order some pretty good coffee, pastries, sandwiches and omelets. Probably a bit over priced, but let's be honest what isn't these days. The inside of the shop is really pretty, great decor. The coffee here was delicious, when it comes to ice mocha coffee, this is one of my wife's favorite spots for ice coffee. The pastry's here are really good too. Definitely recommend getting the pistachio flavored pastries, those by far are the best. The snores croissant is a little disappointing, lots of chocolate cream on the inside, but the croissant is a little dense and not enough marshmallow. The chocolate banana bread is a little dense too, but is okay. If you're going to order food here, recommend either and omelet or a pistachio pastry. read more

Beautiful cafe, skip the entrees and go straight to the display case of delicious pastries! The pastries sell out by early afternoon (we came back the following week earlier in the day to snag them!) It gets pretty packed inside with a few tables outside. My hubby and I had a hard time finding seating at 9am on a Friday morning (luckily someone ushered us to grab their table as they were leaving). The beignet Nutella hazelnut filled donut and crispy Almond Croissant filled with creamy decadent frangipane (almond cream) was delicious! Both pastries hit the spot! The Sugar Bun filled with Chocolate wasn't that good. The Sugar Bun was tasty and essentially a cruffin, a croissant in the shape of a muffin, was delicious. The whipped milk chocolate cream wasn't tasty and ruined the Sugar Bun. I would opt for a different filling like Creme Brulee. I wasn't a big fan of the Raspberry Croissant for Valentine's Day. I thought it would be filled, but was just a raspberry glaze on top with a dollop of whipped cream cheese. While I didn't order any entrees at this location, I've had 3 dishes at different locations (Bethesda & DC) and sadly not a fan of any of them. I didn't like the Shakshuka egg tomato stew, Avocado Toast with under ripe avocados and burnt toast, or Papa's Bowl overloaded with home fries and not enough sauce or eggs. Great place. Not only do they have delicious baked goods, but other kitchen items are good too. There's plenty of places nearby for free parking, and friendly staff. It's a comfortable environment to grab a bite. You'll place your order and then grab a seat inside or outside. This cafe is so beautiful inside and outside, the menu has a wide variety of options and the staff and service were friendly and fast. It is a small cafe and lap top free environment, which is a good thing with such a busy and popular cafe. I went on a Sunday so it was really busy but I was able to get a table and place my order fast. My drink and meal came out quickly. My matcha was delicious and you're able to add flavors, I added lavender. I order the quinoa and chickpea salad and everything tasted so fresh, it was sweet and savory. We came for breakfast on a Saturday, and it was quite busy. While we were in line, people were coming in to hold tables and we had to go eat outside, so just something to consider on busy days. We ordered the Nutella beignet, avocado tartine, banana bread, almond croissant, and cheddar scone. The Nutella beignet was SO good, filled with plenty of Nutella. The croissant was good, but quite mushy in the center. Cheddar scone is always a great pick--one we commonly go to--it almost gives cheesy scallion cornbread vibes. The avocado tartine was very tart, maybe too tart. The avocado gets lost in the tartness of it, but it sure looks pretty. The caramel latte is probably the best of the ones we've had. The hazelnut latte was far "nuttier" than I prefer, and the mocha doesn't have as strong of a mocha taste. The caramel is a perfect balance. Super cute plates, friendly service! The food and coffee are hit or miss, so it's a bit overpriced for the risk. Just wish there were more places to sit. read more

Maman was definitely a vibe. This location is busy, small, and pretty crowded. Not the best spot if you're looking to sit and relax for a while as it's hard to get a table during peak hours. Maman (translates to Mom) is a French inspired cafe that originated from NYC and we now have a few locations here in the DMV, yeah! There is also currently a $10 off coupon if you spend $20+ and must sign up to claim the award online. This location at Mosaic District has a tight seating arrangement and I felt awkward staring down at folks for a table to open up given the limited space. I felt that there was no other choice other than to patiently wait as it was raining cats & dogs and didn't want to take the items to-go and/or eat outside at their patio space. My friend stood in line to order our food while I was on the look out for an open table. Luckily, our wait time was minimal and under 5 minutes (score)! Now, it was our turn to be stared down at while we ate our food haha. The staff are lovely and offered to warm up our cookies. The plate wear is beautiful and would order all of the items below again . . . with the exception of the nutty chocolate chip cookie as I don't think it is unique compared to other other chocolate chip cookie with nuts. My assumption would be the original Mamam staff members though thanks to Andrea for introducing a lighter and "refined" version of what would normally be a bagel with lox. I ate it as an open faced sandwich and liked that the pickled onions were not too overpowering. I would have enjoyed my experience a bit more if it weren't for the initial awkward experience of watching other diners like a hawk. While eating, I had the lingering feeling of being rushed to eat as there was a queue of other guests waiting to be seated. Contrary to some opinions, I actually appreciated the no-laptop signage. I hoped it would encourage people to sit and enjoy coffee with a friend, and make it easier to find a table. However, the space is so small that there's very limited seating, and what is available is tightly packed. As a result, it doesn't quite deliver the cozy, inviting experience you're expecting. To be fair, the food itself was good. That sad, I don't usually fixate on "little details" at cafés or bakeries, but I do when the price point is higher. A cup of steamed milk, tea, drip coffee, a small pastry assortment (three croissants), and avocado toast comes in just south of $40. For that cost, sitting at a table that barely fits the order and places you inches from the next guest is not ideal. Because of that, it's not a place I'd plan to visit again. read more

My matcha wasn't overly sweetened but I did ask for some vanilla flavoring. Service is good as well. They were busy but worked 2 registers and the line moved quickly. This was my first time at maman and it did not disappoint. We went on a Sunday, so PACKED is an understatement. The line to order was short, but the wait for drinks was almost 15 to 20 minutes. The special drink menu was posted on a wall behind customers standing at the counter.... Which is a little strange. Typically it's behind the counter/barista so it's easier to see when ordering. Instead, behind the counter was a picture showing the different types of espresso beverages. We didn't look for any seats inside the establishment since it was already crowded, instead we found seating across the street. The decorations are very cute, the wallpaper matched the espresso machine, speaking of which, why was there only one espresso machine for such a busy establishment! Because we were already on a coffee marathon, I decided to order something different and chose a salted tahini honeycomb latte & Martha's crème brûlée sugar bun. The drink was a little heavy on the tahini, but I was grateful that they added very little ice as requested. The bun was delicious, although it could have used a little more of the sugar on top and I just wish they had the ability to warm up the pastries that are sitting there for hours. Compared to the other Maman's, at least I had room to sit down inside and had time to admire the floral aesthetics of this location. Over here it feels rushed; I was able to get my drink and dessert but was scrambling to find a place to sit down. Unfortunately that same visit was also the day where it started to rain. It wasn't too bad but it was enough for me to question considering on getting a togo cup for my visit. I ended up getting a Matcha Latte and a Cinnamon Roll. The Matcha Latte was warm and it was a bit bitter; not too sweet but when paired with a bite of the Cinnamon Roll, it complimented both flavors. The sweetness from the Cinnamon Roll made up for the bitterness of the latte and I liked the taste of it. Overall I don't have much to say other than Maman is a hit or a miss for me. I've been to the other locations; some good, some just plain awful. This one is in between. read more

A beautiful little cafe serving delicious and inventive pastries like the cinnamon roll kouign aman as well as satisfying salads and sandwiches and hand crafted European style coffees. Stopped in with a friend for coffee and ended up getting pastries as well. We were lucky enough to snag a table inside. The decor is charming and feminine with food served on delicate blue and white china and floral garlands on the walls. There are a few tables inside and some 2 seater tables outside but not nearly enough seating for the amount of people lined up for food and drinks. I heard a lot of hype around Maman, and with it being a very aesthetic cafe, I was excited to try this place out. I ordered a quiche (the vegetable one) and my husband ordered a latte and pain au chocolat. I probably reorder the quiche I got again. It was pretty bland. My husband thought it pain Au chocolat was ok - nothing special, but he did enjoy his latte. I didn't try anything else, but wouldn't mind coming to try something else in the future. All the pastries and food items look delicious. Everything is served on beautiful dishware, so that does make the experience feel nicer. The staff is nice, and the place looks well maintained. There is seating inside and out, however, I heard there is a no laptop policy, so I wouldn't recommend this as a place to sit down and do work. read more

Season's Tidings! Back for another update. Maribel's Quinoa & Chickpea Bowl - this was a really refreshing salad! The lemon sumac tahini dressing has a creamy sesame lemon taste that elevates this salad to another level. The candied pumpkin seeds were a fun pop in the mouth, and the greens were crisp and delightful! Everything worked so well together and the different textures all complemented each other and made this really fun to eat. Camille's Spinach & Beet Salad - the apple chunks and pomegranate seeds add some sweetness to an otherwise bland salad. I also didn't like the herbed feta, as it gave it a bit of a sour taste. Olivia's Green Goddess Bowl - the farro had a nice and pillowy texture that was fun to bite down on, and the roasted zucchini was an interesting addition to the salad, but I didn't really enjoy the beets and cucumber. It was quite jarring to suddenly get such a hard texture in an otherwise light and delicate salad. Also, I don't know what herbs were added to the green tahini dressing, but I much preferred the lemon sumac tahini dressing from their other salads. Blueberry Lavender Brioche Wave - this was much heavier than the usual brioche offerings. It tasted more like a turnover pastry with blueberry filling, and I couldn't taste the lavender at all. Pina Colada Overnight Oats - a granola bar in a cup! This was the first time I've tried overnight oats, and it was sweeter and much thicker than I expected. Farmhouse Granola Parfait - this, however, hit the spot perfectly! It wasn't overly sweet and there was a mini cup inside to keep the granola separate so it was still crisp and crunchy on mixing. read more

As my husband and I were heading to the Sunday Farmer's Market at Mosaic District, we thought we'd stop by Maman, a new brunch cafe in Mosaic District. After reading some reviews from other Yelpers about how disappointing Maman can be, I thought we should give it a try. When we got closer to Maman, we saw they had some lovely outdoor seating. It's a cozy little café with a French theme. The staff were really friendly and eager to provide services as soon as we walked in. Most of the tables were already taken, about 85%. When we walked in, their bakery display on the left caught our attention, and we headed to the register to order drinks. Everything looked so esthetically appealing, even the to-go cup and the bag for baked goods. It's definitely an Instagrammable spot. I'm not sure if Maman has any unique menu items that set it apart from other brunch spots in the area. If they do, I certainly missed it. They had a really good crème brûlée sugar bun, which I wish was warmed, but it was very flaky and croissant like. The cream cheese blueberry scone was creamy on the inside but only in the center, also would have been nice to be warmed up. There was a lot of hype surrounding the opening of Maman, so I had to check it out while I was in the Mosaic area. When I arrived, I was a bit confused by the setup. There are two separate areas for ordering and picking up drinks, and with two different lines, it wasn't immediately clear where to go. Some additional signage would definitely help, unless I missed it entirely. I ordered the viral Salted Tahini Honeycomb Latte. While it was tasty, it didn't blow me away, and I wasn't quite sure what all the buzz was about. I also tried the Citrus Olive Oil Loaf Cake but only managed a few bites. It just wasn't for me. Maybe it's a flavor profile others enjoy, but it didn't appeal to my palate. The space itself is charming and well-decorated, and it's definitely a popular spot to catch up with friends. However, I wouldn't recommend it for studying or working since it's pretty crowded and not very spacious. We had been waiting for the restaurant to stabilize after opening to give it a fair shot. Unfortunately, service both to order and also to receive order is very slow. Stumbled upon this spot during a trip to the farmers market and decided to check it out. The line for coffee was really long--it took at least 15 minutes to finally get inside, and once we did, the place felt a bit cramped. Aesthetically, though, it's gorgeous. I loved the vines and greenery both inside and out, and the decor is beautifully done. As for the coffee...it was honestly nothing special, especially given the long wait. There were only two baristas handling the big crowd, which made things pretty slow. I did enjoy the almond croissant--it was flaky, fresh, and definitely worth trying. Overall, I'd rate my visit about 3.5 out of 5. I'd love to go back and try brunch sometime to see if the food and service are better than the coffee experience I had. read more

Ordered the Martine's Steak Sandwich, the Croque Maman, and the Papaya Lemonade. Heads up--the Croque isn't your typical version where you cut into a melty, fork-and-knife dish. It's a sandwich. The bread was nice but really needed to be toasted. The béchamel was fresh which was nice. The steak sandwich was just okay-could've used more seasoning, especially black pepper. Was a bit bland. Overall, not bad, but definitely felt like an average lunch. Not quite sure it lives up to the hype (yet). read more

Having been to Maman locations in Union Market, penn quarter and ny I was excited to see one open in nova. Unfortunately, this location leaves more to be desired. There are limited menu options which is to be expected given the small location. But even the drink/specialty coffee selections were lackluster in comparison. On a Tuesday morning at 9:15am it took 17 minutes to receive a lavender latte. The store was not that packed so I can't imagine what the wait is on a weekend. For reference, when I first got in there were only a few people inside. They called those people plus about 3-4 names of folks who came in after me before my name was finally called. The worst part of it all is that the tops for the hot coffee cups are not a perfect fit for the cups they provide. A light squeeze to the cup (such as picking up out of your cup holder) will pop the top off. My latte came out almost way too hot so I decided to let it sit for the drive home. As I picked it up out of my cup holder, the top popped off and now on top of an unexpectedly long 25 minute in&out coffee shop visit, I have coffee all over my car. read more

For grand opening, store was packed and almost all seating indoor and outdoor was taken. My rating is not based on the grand opening itself but for the items on the menu. Pastry display looked to be selling out fast already at 12 noon. Ordering process was fast and I paid using their app. Drink - (seasonal) wild blueberry caramel iced lattes with customized milk and double espresso Custom milk an extra $1 charge. This drink didn't taste like blueberry nor caramel. Just tasted like a normal iced latte so I was pretty disappointed and it wasn't even a good iced latte. We had to add extra sugar packets to this because it was bland and watered down by the ice. Pastries - Everything croissant and Cheddar Scallion Scone For both, I wish they toasted or warmed these up. Everything croissant was nice and flaky. Tastes exactly like the name: a croissant with everything-bagel seasoning. Cheddar Scallion Scone had good flavor for a savory treat. Not "hard" as a scone you would expect. I'm definitely a sucker for brunch at maman, specially when the only after brunch plans are browsing the stores around. We decided on grab different pastries and some savory mains to share between the 3 of us. All the maman locations around the DMV area serve the same menu items, so it's just about how fast they sell what's on their pastry case, besides the eggs ratatouille (which is my favorite savory item of the menu) all the savory mains/all day breakfast are available everyday of the week. This is my first time visiting this location, definitely gets packed on weekend morning, I was very lucky to find a table outside, even though it's getting colder, the day was pretty sunny to enjoy our meal! I decided to try their seasonal drinks and pastries, the pumpkin matcha latte and their pumpkin spice cube croissant! I think the matcha-pumpkin lacks of flavor, it's definitely not a ceremonial grade and barely can taste any pumpkin syrup or pure, as well all the hot beverages were room temperature not even warm it's mostly the pumpkin spice mix on top. It's not worth to try, the main reason I take 1 star off. Drinks are presented beautifully, but they're not great nor served hot. As for the pastries, my mother in law got a cheddar scone that tasted "alright" for the price, we all split the pumpkin spice cube, presentation = lovely, the cream inside wasn't neither custardy or fluffy, it almost was split, lacked pumpkin flavor and most of the sweetness really came from the merenguine, the flakiness of the croissant was decent, definitely I was really excited about this cube since I love all things pumpkin, but it was a major let down. I think the star of the show was the crème caramel cruffin, layered beautifully, both the custard and the buttercream were done perfectly and well balanced I was glad I ordered this one for "how pretty and inviting" looked!
