***2 1/2 stars*** I could easily see how certain people would be into this place; it's got a cool cottage-core vibe with vines and trellis action around the counter, which I assume is also the case for any standalone brick and mortar stores they have. Something tells me though that the vast majority of the fanbase is into the coffee side of the menu, which is not the section I frequented on this particular adventure, and I paid for it. I stopped by for a light lunch yesterday in the 1PM hour. I'm ambivalent about the Moynihan Food Hall; it's definitely spiffy, especially compared with that Penn Station dungeon across the street, but befitting a train station, it's usually crowded and a little chaotic. Unless I have a ton of time on my hands, I don't want to risk a situation where I'm spending most of my lunch in line waiting for something or seeking in vain for a spot to sit down. There's a few places I'd pre-order at to then quickly escape to quieter lands, and that's about it. I will say this - it was very easy to order at their kiosk off to the side, and within a minute or two, I'd received the first part of my lunch from a friendly fellow behind the counter. As far as I can tell, their customer service is the biggest selling point, which isn't nothing. I wasn't in a coffee mood (as mentioned, already spelling my undoing), so I opted for a sweet/savory brunch combo -a breakfast brioche and a blueberry goat cheese scone. Massive ehs on both, particularly the brioche. Some of this for sure is just a palate preference but I wasn't crazy about the seasonal filling in the bottom half of the brioche - it seemed to be like a bacon jam puree with onions, etc. in it. That was just okay; to me it clashed a little with the dairy parts of the brioche, but not the end of the world or anything. What I definitely didn't like though was the random, barely cooked bacon strips wrapped on the bottom of the brioche (most of which I just ripped off - super soggy and unappetizing) and the unpleasantly cold egg in the middle. Literally just wasn't heated up enough, and for $6.50, the whole item should be nice and toasty. That one is a solid miss for me. The scone was the better option, and maybe some of the other pastries are worth sampling as well. Good texture/consistency, but I wasn't crazy about the pairing of the blueberry and the herbs/goat cheese. To me there's a reason you don't see this particular item making regular appearances on breakfast menus. It's a lot of intense flavor colliding, and I'd opt for just blueberry next time. Given that it was lunch hour in a train station, the turnaround time wasn't bad; I had my full order within 10 minutes, probably a little less, and as mentioned, was almost immediately given the scone. They were clearly busy/productive back there, and there's an efficient system befitting a commuter hub. But based on what I sampled, this just wasn't my jam. read more

This shop, Located in Moynihan train station is extremely convenient for a breakfast or lunch in the morning or afternoon. We had been here just one time before as we came here to walk to our cruise ship and stayed for a breakfast pastry. Since then...This bakery has been on my list for a definite visit. I don't come to the city too often, but since I was here...I finally had the opportunity to go back. My wife and I have been here twice now, (I which there was one on Long Island), and have truly enjoyed their food and coffee. It's amazing to just look in their displays (see pictures) of all the amazing food they have. Lots of creative pieces in here and I confident they are all delicious. We chose the 'everything croissant' each and a 'chocolate babka' for a little "am" dessert. We could not have made a better choice. This food is over-the-top amazing. Soft, tasty, buttery, (did I say tasty?). Also, their coffee is also wonderful. There is a definite formula here and it works well. Their staff is also great. Always greeted with a warm-helpful smile. They take the order, you pay and get tyour food right there. (Coffee around the corner.) We hopped over to an empty seat and just enjoyed our delicious food and electricity filled dining area. Lots of movement here with commuters, travelers and families. Was so excited til I got my food and drink. What a disappointment. I've seen the TikTok's on the place. I love the menu and looked at all the pics before I ordered. Got my food and it wasn't even throughly heated. Outside was melted and inside was cold. I didn't tell them I wanted to cold and for $14 for a palm size sandwich I at least want it hot. Second disappointment was we peach matcha with lavender cloud. It came out n just looked like a regular matcha. I asked the woman making the drinks if it was the correct order before sipping it. She said yes and I tried it and it tastes and looks nothing like the picture. It literally just tasted like a regular u sweetened matcha. For over $20 for two items I'd say I would have had a better experience at Starbucks or oven dunkin at this point. Maybe they're on an off day but it was really disappointing. I won't be back here. I rather try next door at H&H bagel or something. It's not the experience I was expecting from the hype, prices and pics. read more

While I'm sure this isn't the most fun location to work at, it would be nice to feel like this kiosk matched the high quality of other Maman stores I've visited. I stopped by the Maman in Moynihan before departing a train for home last weekend. I ordered the Francine ham & cheese baguette (ham & cheese with butter & cornichons). It was fast and mostly delicious (I love a simple sandwich done well), but a little inconsistently assembled (butter not spread well, two cornichons whole in the center of the sandwich, so you only get cornichons in a couple of bites). Overall, not a bad spot if you want a pastry or a simple French-inspired sandwich. read more

I was trying all kinds of cookies on my NYC vacation. This place looked great. I got a nutty chocolate chip cookie (apparently featured on Oprah's favorite things at some point) and a creme brûlée cookie. I was going to eat them on the plane ride home, but didn't get to them, so I had them a day later. Of the two, the creme brûlée was my favorite (would have likely been better on the day it was baked). I would like a bit more of the creme on top if they are asking my opinion. :) read more

Located in Moynihan train station so it was convenient since I had an hour to kill for my train. This bakery has been on my list for awhile and I finally had the opportunity to try it. Vanilla Mango Croissant Roll - the croissant was flakey, crispy, and soft on the inside. The cream flower was not super sweet which I liked. The vanilla bean filling was subtly sweet and smooth which contrasted the sweet mango filling. I wish the mango filling was less sweet. read more

Finally had the chance to try this Pumpkin Pie croissant cube, which I had been eyeing for some time. The filling was abundant and not too sweet. Very pumpkin-y. I probably filled up after eating only half of it, but had to force myself to eat the other half as I'm not sure how well these keep. I also tried the Apple Chocolate Chai tea cake. I been wanting to try this and how convenient that this is in Penn Station and close to Javitis Center. While walking to the center, there was another maman location en route. My friend got me a lavender honey latte and chocolate chip cookie for breakfast/lunch (ordered around 12 PM on a Friday). It took a while, good thing we weren't on a time schedule to receive the items. Loved the lavender honey latte and the chocolate chip was warmed so the chocolate chunks were melty (it's a bit messy on the fingers but that comes with the territory of a good chocolate chip cookie!) Decided to come back in the late afternoon to get another lavender honey latte before hopping on the train. We cut it close on the wait time but thank goodness the drinks finally appeared and we ran for the train. Do you know what? Loved this one even better since the lavender flavor was a bit more pronounced in this one. Have to come back to try the other items when I am not in a rush. How terribly disappointing. I ordered a latte with almond milk and the cookie dubbed Oprah's favorite. First of all, this is a location in a train station, so presumably, people are in transit and in somewhat of a hurry. So to watch the workers behind the counter just stand around and chit chat as I waited on my latte, was frustrating. The latte itself was the worst one I had during my entire time in Manhattan. An absolutely charming addition to Moniyhan! I really wasn't craving anything when I walked passed Maman, but the cookies drew me in. They're so elegantly extra, I had to buy one. So I picked up a s'mores a la minute cookie and a strawberry nectar to go. The cookie itself, wonderful. Large chunks of chocolate throughout, and the outsides had this nice crispy buttery edge to it. Kind of like the cheese that accidentally escapes a grilled cheese and ends up all crispy on the corners of the sandwich? Just like that. The marshmallow on top, wonderfully burnt. But to be honest, it really didn't add much to the cookie itself. Just felt like two separate components smushed together. But is that going to stop me from trying their other offerings? Absolutely not. The cookies are wonderful. The drinks are fancy (do not sleep on the nectar, super refreshing for the summer). I like Maman, I usually stop by for pastries when I'm near Moynihan. I got some coffee today since I had my $10 birthday credit. I got the Maple French Toast Latte with oat milk, which was $9. I was so disappointed by my drink. It tasted so bitter and had no sweetener. There was no maple or french toast flavor in my drink unfortunately. The coffee tasted like it was burnt. Considering it was $9, I definitely don't think the coffee is worth here. I think Maman's strength might be their pastries. I've had their vegan cookies and croissants and they taste amazing! There's always a huge crowd in Moynihan so this location is very busy, but you still get your food relatively quickly. read more

Heard about Maman and their cool popups all summer, so I wanted to pay them a visit. I went to the Moynihan Food Hall location and the speed of service was fast! I got three of their vegan items on the menu: vegan croissant, vegan pumpkin spice carrot cake and the vegan chai chocolate chip cookie. The frosting from the cake was not overly sweet and the cake itself was just sweet enough to balance with the frosting. Everything about the cake was delicious. I literally scraped the crumbs out of the pastry bag that it came in lol. The croissant was a classic! Flaky, top layer with a "buttery" taste to it. Plain, simple, but yet classic. However, the chai chocolate chip cookie was not my favorite. Chai has a strong, powerful taste. It's one of those ingredients where it should be the only star of the show. So, having two stars of the show (chocolate chip and chai) didn't create the balance it needed. In fact, the chai over powered the chocolate chip and made the cookie dry and easy to break apart. I do look forward to more vegan options they have in store this upcoming holiday season! read more

I stopped at the Moynihan Train Hall lower concourse on this trip into NYC and the Maman outpost there was just as wonderful as their other locations! The young woman at the register was a pleasure to talk with and offered quick (NY pace) small talk while taking my order. I had a baked pear danish, which was perfectly flakey and delicious, along with an oat milk flat white that was actually well textured and not overheated. I remembered I had been to the Maman location near my apartment. This is no where near as beautiful but the coffee and pastries are the same. One of my fav coffee places in NYC! Chelsea location is the prettiest. I stopped by this location with a friend of mine to grab a coffee and we ended up sitting here for few hours and just sipping coffee and eating the delicious Nutella chocolate chip cookie. They have tons of Nutella based desserts, if you are confused then go for the Nutella donut kinda thing. Cafe mocha in almond milk is my go to drink at any time of the day, and Maman makes it the best! The vibe and ambience makes me feel I am in Europe in some quaint coffee place. read more

We stopped into this location to grab the banana bread to toast it Aussie style. The bread was quite dense and not fluffy or light enough to our liking. Also decently surprised how well the pastries held throughout the day. We got the Nutty chocolate chip cookie, Kouign maman, a vanilla croissant roll (forgot the name but so so good!), and the Paris to NY croissant. All the sweets are perfectly decadent without being too overwhelming. The crunch of the croissant balanced out the intense flavors. The Paris to NY is a chocolate lover's dream!
