Maman! Really wanted to like this place after seeing the one in union market. But I had the green shakshuka here at the navy yard location and it was awful! Worst shakshuka I have ever had! It was basically a bag of defrosted frozen kale with eggs and feta and olives on top - I didn't even finish eating it. Come on Maman - you can do better. A place more concerned with vibes than food or service. Spent all their effort decorating and forgot to learn how to make a pastry. Everything here is pretty, almost nothing is tasty. I have now been here about 10 times. I keep coming back hoping they have gotten it together and improved. Sadly they have not. I really wanted to like this place, but man if you are a French patisserie and your croissants are worse than frozen Trader Joe's ones, you really have lost the plot. The only redeeming food item is the quiche, which is typically good, but inconsistent in quality. The one I had today was poorly made and the crust was not properly sealed. Overall hugely disappointing. I was excited to see a "legit" bakery open in Navy Yard with a good looking menu and a comfortable environment. They may survive if a Tatte doesn't open up here. If they ever see real competition, they are toast. read more

One of my work friends excitedly alerted me to this newly opened French cafe, and specifically requested that I wait to go with him for the first time. Once I looked at the menu, I couldn't wait to try it out! By the time my coworker finally coordinated his office day to coincide with mine, I had been there four times with other friends and even had two business lunches, it's that good! Considering the abundance of amazing restaurants in DC, this French cafe is a wonderful addition. The interior decor is beautiful, love the couch setup, as well as the more formal dining. Caramelized onions, etc. Came here to work for a few and leave but between the food, ambiance (lots of natural light and windows) and plugs/tables to accommodate my set-up I may have to stay longer to further "inspect" their menu. Wow! I found my new favorite coffee shop in the area. The coffee was amazing and the pastries, specifically the almond croissant, were delicious. The porcelain coffee mugs and plates add to the ambiance that is already extremely pleasing to experience. Beautiful place, great for a coffee and a quick bite, but don't waste your money on the proper cooked food here. There are far better places in Navy Yard and DC. Having been to a wonderful - and delicious - Maman in Jersey City, I brought my mum and dad here who were visiting me, for their first breakfast of their stay. I wish I hadn't. The food was cold, undercooked and/or lacking in flavour. We had to send two out of three breakfast dishes back. Extremely disappointing for a new place in the neighbourhood that has brilliant stores countrywide. read more

I rarely post any reviews, but today is the day. Whenever in the Navy Yard area, I frequent this place often for coffee and pastries. The overall ambience and coffee have always been great and amazing, but the service needs A LOT of improvement. Earlier, I ordered two separate boxes of cookies via online ordering, and as I entered to see where it can be picked up, that's when my experience with service became such a turn off. I have always read some of those reviews before, and have been subjected to several instances confirming that, but I always took the side of understanding where they are coming from, or perhaps they were having a bad day. But today is different. First, I approached the coffee pick up area. I understand the baristas were busy, so I quickly asked where I can pick up. Before I finished my sentence, he pointed to the other side. On the other side, I did go. When I saw a second person and asked that I ordered cookies for pick up, he just pointed me to the doordash pick up area, without even asking what order. No warmth or helpful notes at all. Lastly, and there I was, a tall man wearing a denim longsleeved shirt (maybe the manager) was there. He was warm and welcoming, until I told him I have 2 gift boxes to be picked up. That's when he changed his demeanor and said that he has them there because I had asked for it to be put in a paperbag, when I asked for a gift box. He then said "you confused the hell of us" when I put that in the notes. I simply said that I wanted the box, but had asked for a paperbag to bring them with me. In addition, he then said that my ordering was confusing because apparently, I chose nutty and oatmeal. I told him, my order is clear, and it's your system. I also said that he can put them all in the box and I can wait as I am not in a hurry. Being scolded and blamed for 1) a basic misunderstanding that could have been easily clarified and 2) for an error in your online ordering had are both lacking in client care and customer service. I love supporting cafes and the service industry, but instances like this that make customers feel bad and be treated without care is making me think twice of going here. I hope that the team, no matter how different cultural backgrounds are, learn how to provide respectful and decent communication for all their clients. While the coffee is great, service and care are part of the overall experience -- I hope you all don't forget that. Note that I am only writing this 1-star review because of this experience. read more

I love this place! The coffee is great -- I'm a black coffee person, so I can't speak to their lattes. They also have an awesome selection of sweet and savory pastries! I tried their ham and cheese croissant and it was delicious -- perfectly flaky. They also have an awesome ambiance it's very pretty inside -- very "instagram worthy" if that's your thing and I love their pretty to go cups. read more

While I've never actually had any of the soft serve that people rave about, their coffee bar drinks are great. Over the summer I would usually order and iced latte or Vietnamese coffee, both always made with love and care. The aesthetics of the space are top notch as well - I always feel so good once I walk in. Great option overall if you're in the mood to grab some coffee or ice cream on the go!
