Mama's Boy is my new favorite spot for a slice in Oakland. The pizzas I've had so far have been great. I like extra spice so peppers helped me get the heat I was after. The restaurant is kept clean with their service counter and prep stations setup right behind that. It's cool to watch the prep process while waiting for the food. The downstairs has some table seats and bar stool seats down the right hand side. Ample seating upstairs including a huge TV if you want to catch a game. It's always great to see a familiar face behind the counter. Jose is one of the nicest guys in the restaurant business and makes supporting Mama's Boy even better. Been on my radar for a while. Saw Portnoys review and kinda solidified it, I had to come. Definitely one of the best NY style pizzas in the bay imo. My partner and I have been wanting to try Mama's for a while now, so when we had a free day, we decided to make the trek. We ordered a burrata slice, white slice, and mushroom whole pie. We were originally going to wait until we got home to try it, but I'm glad we ate the slices pretty much right away. The burrata melted onto the pizza--I would have preferred it to maintain a little bit more structure to keep the burrata feel, but honestly the taste was still good! It wasn't as heavy as you imagined it to be. Super balance and actually pretty light all things considered! The white pie was a punch of flavor--super garlicky. It almost plays with the border of too much garlic, but we loved it. We probably wouldn't be able to eat a whole pie of this as it was pretty rich. Lastly, the mushroom pie was good and interesting! Probably our least preferred of the three types, but it had an interesting citrusy element to it. Overall, all the pizzas had a great crust and undercarriage. Walked by this place on the way to work and told myself to come back around after my shift to see if they had vegan slices. Glad I did because they DO have vegan slices and they are DELICIOUS. Walked in and not only did they have 1 vegan option, they had *multiple* vegan options - and good ones too! Not just boring veggie or cheese. I went for The "Fredo": vegan cheese, Alfredo, mushroom, onions. It was one of their specialty pies of the week so I had to get it. The man taking my order was so nice and looked very prod of their food. He heated my slice up and told me to let him know what he thought. I sat down and ate my slice, my eyes lighting up because I rarely get the opportunity to enjoy a slice of vegan pizza on the go, and especially one that tasted so good! Happy to have the chance to try Mama's Boy pizza today. It has been talked about by my coworkers and I have seen it gone viral on social media. Expectations were high, and it definitely met them. The pizzas I got were the garlic slice and grandmas pepperoni. I also ordered a side of garlic knots that comes with 2 or 5. The garlic slice was great. It was very tasty. If you like the thin slices, then they do it very well here. The pizza holds its structure perfectly and the dough is fresh. I loved the grandmas pepperoni. Detroit style is my favorite, and Mamas Boy does it amazing. It is fluffy and airy, and then the bottom is charred and gives you a crunch. The mix of texture is pleasant, and the char taste adds to the pepperoni flavor. Loved this pizza a lot. Their house made ranch was great too. It is $1 extra. I wanted to buy a shirt from them, but maybe next time I'll buy one. The vibe of the restaurant is like a New York vibe. They play hip hop and it is fun. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Ordered their Burrata pizza added pepperoni, pineapple on half and jalapeno on half it came out to $70. I heard all the hype I said okay fine. This was horrible. They put like 5 pineapples in one bite shows they made it lazily and it showed in the pizza. Then it was soggy in the crust. The burrata with hot honey was my favorite slice. All of the slices were good and reminded me of some of the pizza we had in New York. They have chili oil, chili red peppers, and oregano out for your pizza. However, they don't have parmeasean cheese. Street parking is available. There are seats upstairs if you choose to dine in. The upstairs is kind dim and not well lit. The slices are warm rather than hot out of the oven. The staff was super friendly. While the slices are big, they aren't BIG so I found two very manageable. The service was friendly and quick and after a few minutes I was digging in. Burrata: I really enjoyed this. I think some places throw hot honey on a pizza without much consideration, but all of the flavors felt well balanced. Pepperoni: A classic and didn't disappoint. What I will say about both slices is something about the flavor of the crust made me not love it. I'm still struggling to put my finger on it and it wasn't the texture or sturdiness. While I'd eat it again, I'd be curious to try their grandma slices to see if I have the same experience. Great thin crust pizza! What else can I say? Shop is in the middle of a busy block and parking is a bear but it's worth the work. Can walk in and get a slice or sit in the dining room upstairs. All 3 were hot and delicious but the White Garlic was probably my favorite, just a good balance of flavors with a good zip of garlic. Pro tip: spring the $1 for the hot peppers. My friend picked up two large pizzas for our group of six: the Burrata, which comes with tomato sauce, mozzarella, burrata, basil, hot honey, and Parmesan, and the Pesto, which includes pesto, mozzarella, fennel sausage, mushrooms, onions, sweet ricotta, and Parmesan. The pizzas here are definitely on the pricey side--$48 and $42 each before tax and tip--but they are absolutely massive. Everyone in our group had as many slices as they wanted and we still had half a pizza left over. With the Burrata pizza, the burrata was liquefied, which helped it spread evenly across the pizza while preserving its rich flavor. With the pesto pizza, I absolutely loved the fennel sausage, which was packed with flavor. You can tell a lot of thought went into how the ingredients work together; Mama's Boy does a great job balancing flavors. The pizzas here are as thin as they get. I like coming here for lunch at work, and now that I live in Adam's Point this is my go to pizza place even though there is a Round Table around the corner from me. First off, the take home pizzas are absolutely massive. They are 20 inches in diameter, most extra large pizzas from other places fall somewhere in the range of 16-18 inches, so this is like a XXL pizza, so don't balk at the price, you're getting an appropriately priced pie for for both the quantity AND quality you pay for. The crust is thin yet crispy and structurally sound, no floppy slices with the cheese impotently sliding off here. Once again I must mention the size, a single slice is larger than an adult head. Please note my attached picture with a tall can of beer in the shot for scale. Two slices are plenty for dinner, but the pizza is so good I housed about half of it in one night. I keep coming back to the white pie, mozzarella garlic and parsley with no red sauce, but the burrata with hot honey is also spectacular, not to mention the slices of Nonna's pizza, a variant with thicker chewier crust and square cut slices, and the delicious garlic knots. i have heard so many wonderful things about this place but unfortunately my experience was honestly bad enough to make it so i won't be returning. i paid $14 (including tip) for 2 slices of pepperoni pizza to go. the interaction with the worker who took my order was not the issue. where it all went wrong was when i was handed my pizza slices... they put the pizza slices in a paper bag with no plate, just straight raw on the bag and folded the bag so it was partly closed but still had a gap. i was shocked. honestly blown away that would even be an option for the food to be given to any customer. there was multiple stacks of pizza boxes behind them so i asked if i could get one as in my opinion that's the basic standard for pizza. i walked 2 blocks back to my apartment and the pizza was cold. in no world should my pizza be cold in a less than 5 minute walk. i thought to myself okay this pizza has great reviews let me eat it and it'll make all of this worth it. it was not. the pizza is basic, nothing exciting about it and for the price point i was expecting much more. even after adding hot honey and ranch the grease took over the flavor and i only ended up eating one slice before throwing it away. hopefully this was a singular experience, out of the ordinary and just so happen to happen to me only because for $14 i'm expecting much more flavor , better taste and pizza that stands out from the norm. i'm disappointed to say the least and overall upset that i wasted my money and my time on this place. read more

Best pizza around. Normally I'll order the pepperoni with Kalamata olives ( wish they offered feta) and I love it every time. I decided to change it up and got the sausage pie last time- unfortunately this one wasn't even close to the quality pizza I've had soooooo many times. Used Uber Eats- it took just under 2 hours and arrived cold ( not really blaming Mama's Boy for this) but the quality was not the same either- it had minimal cheese that wasn't spread out properly- the sauce was not evenly distributed it was pooled in the center- the pizza was thinner than usual-and some pieces didn't have sausage- just a poorly made pizza whipped out without quality control. I wanted to try this since Dave P went and reviewed it. Parked 3 blocks away. I was really disappointed. Smells good, looks good, tastes pretty good, but the dough was almost nonexistent in the center 10-12 inches of a full size pie and was a total flop( 1/16" thick maybe). Too floppy to fold even.
