When the review starts with I'm from ..... you know it's a snobby eater who thinks Florida can't get it right. True story though . Mamasamas gets it right. Everytime. Marissa was our server last night. She was adorably delightful and our service was perfect. (She served our party of 10 effortlessly)The restaurant has a homey yet elegant feel. We were checked on a few times by owners?, management? Not sure. I was greeted by name upon entering, and checked in again during and after our meal by their team. They asked for my opinion and I'm always glad to give my 2 cents. The menu needs a vegan item, they said they are working on that . We had 1 in our party with some newer food restrictions and a solution was easily given by Marissa and my friends meal was perfect and didn't miss any flavor. I think it was made to be vegan so there is that option it's just not on the menu. I have followed Mamasamas since they did a pop up shop in PV and was heartbroken when it disappeared one day. I was ecstatic to see it is now at the beaches and folks get on over there so we don't lose a good restaurant. I rank it above Catullas (I think I'm the only one that is just not a fan of their food) and I also did not like Salumeria 104 (snobby staff and food over salted). Just my option folks . Mamasamas is a mixed bag. Restaurant really cramped and very noisy. Food is rustic Italian and well prepared-like a Sunday afternoon at an Italian grandma's, sauce and Sunday gravy that's cooked all day, home made pasta, but at premium prices. Which is fine as some of the dishes are unique, such as the pistachio pasta, but other offerings are very ordinary. I love arrabiata sauce, but would have liked to have seen it offer with other types of pasta than just gnocchi. I had to raise an eyebrow at the $5 charge for an order of bread. FOUR slices of bread. Every order, no refills. The bread was... bread, nothing special-heck, Costco's baguettes are nicer. Menu is limited which is fine as everything is prepared well, but again, premium pricing for some very basic dishes. $25 for 4 meatballs is a little much. The meatballs are very good, but nothing you haven't had before. Referring to Costco again, they have meatballs in their frozen section that are as good, if not better. If the pricing was more in line with the style of food, this would be a go-to once a week, regular spot. But as it stands, it's like paying exclusive dining prices to eat at your friend's mom's. For high quality restaurant family style Italian, you're probably better off at Maggiano's. If you haven't experienced a traditional at-home Italian Sunday dinner, give em a try. If you have, and like to cook family style, you probably won't be overly impressed. read more

Best Italian food anywhere in Duval county!! Hands down and welcome to flavortown! We're hooked! The owner is wonderful and likes to talk to everyone. The staff is amazing and seem to love working there. The menu may be small, compared to chains and other places but the quality far surpasses any other place. We didn't wait very long for our meal at all even thought the place was packed with very happy clientele. We will definitely be back many times and are even considering catering an event with mamasamas! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Mamasamas. There were 4 of us, and we starts out with a bottle of Chianti, nice wine but light. So we ordered a borolo, which paired with our meals well. Ordered the meatball app, delicious with a stellar red sauce. 4 meatballs, one for each. The bread was tasty, lightly toasted. I had the pepperdele ragu pasta which was a unanimous table favorite! The guys ordered the veal, nice and thin but would have been improved if served with my ragu sauce. The other lady enjoyed the sea bass very much. We will go back. The prices are a bit in the high side, but very quality food and wine. I am grateful to the other reviewers who steered us towards the meatball app in their reviews! I do read the reviews and count on their honesty. We also had the salad, one arugula and one misto. Nice, but not worth $14 each, they were larger so easily shareable. We look forward to a return visit read more

The food is excellent but......when the bill arrives it states that if you pay by cash you save 4%. We paid with a credit card and our friends paid with cash. But the prices on our bills did not change. In fact all of the prices on the bill were higher than what was on the menu, higher than 4%. It looks like they added 11% and then, of course, 7.5% tax. Not a very ethical practice. And the prices are high to begin with. $25 for 4 meatballs? Oh, and we shared entrees and salads but had to split them ourselves at the table. Messy and ridiculous. Add a split plate charge if it's that is so hard to do in the kitchen. We didn't complain about the inflated prices because our waitress made us feel like she could have cared less if we came back. And we won't be back. There's other excellent Italian restaurants in the area that make you feel like they are happy that you are there! read more

We went to Mamasamas last night and had an amazing experience! Loved the decor, simple but sophisticated! The staff was so accommodating and helpful with. suggestions. Some of our groups favorites included the meatballs and burrato for the apps. The top main dishes were the veal special, the beef carpaccio and the rigatoni...AMAZING! At 7:00 p.m., my friend and I had a reservation at the establishment. I arrived at 6:53 p.m. and was not seated until 7:42 p.m. I inquired about the two empty tables that had been available since my arrival. The hostess informed me that a party of eleven was scheduled to arrive and that she had to reserve them for them. After patiently waiting for approximately 30 minutes, the manager offered us a complimentary drink at the crowded bar. However, we were again required to stand and wait. We ordered a limoncello spritzer, which was refreshing. Finally, a couple departed, and we were offered a seat at the bar. After conversing for a few minutes, a table became available. Our server was exceptional. She provided a comprehensive overview of the menu and made excellent recommendations. We ordered the Burrata e Pomodorini, Pappardelle 24hr Ragu, Arugula, and Budino. The burrata and Budino were delectable. I recommend exercising patience and potentially bringing a fan, as the establishment is small and quite crowded, and warms up rapidly. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! Espresso martini was THE best I've ever had! Burrata was on point and I smashed the ragu! I'd have to say Catullos actually has competition now. iykyk. However I must mention a few things-it is a bit tight inside and feels cramped when pulling out your chair and walking thru. The chairs have got to go- metal folding and with a weird gap that almost made feel like I was going to fall through. Caught me by surprise when I sat down. Lastly, it was HOT! Lots of people fanning themselves with their menus and it's not even summer yet. I've been going to this establishment even when it was Dos Vatos so I'm use to it I suppose. We do not mind paying higher prices for an exceptional experience. But for mediocre food served in a blah setting, not so much.

Let me start by saying the food was delicious; however, this is no Catullos, Salumeria, or Mezza Luna. We had to wait ten minutes after we seated to be given waters, asked what we wanted to drink, or if there were any apps. the server recommended. This was our first dining and based off of the paper napkins and lack of uniforms, it was not worth the $5 bread service or rest of the menu cost for that matter. Additionally, they were confused as to who was assigned to our table - and made that known. After we received the bread, I had asked for black pepper for the oil and it was never brought. Additionally, there were no recommendations upon taking our order, once the food arrived (which again was delicious), our waitress didn't check in to ask how everything was tasting, if we needed anything, nothing. My fiancé waved her down for a second glass of wine, even though my empty glass was sitting on the table for a decent amount of time. Given the casualty of the restaurant, lack of service, attention, I will not be back for awhile. read more

Headline: Way overpriced- ok ambiance. Was excited to try this place and we waited until the hype died down to do so. They did a great job updating the place from what was Dos Vatos. The space was cozy and charming. We sat at the corner bar seat. All started off great with our drinks, but then the servers were bussing their drinks right in front of where we were sitting. (Update: as we left, not sure our martinis had much alcohol in them as upon reflection we had 2 drinks each and neither of us felt as if we had done so.) They definitely need an area for bussing glasses where guests are not seated so that was an immediate turn off. Then as I put my basic paper napkin on my lap and saw I had to pay $5 for 4 pieces of basic store bought warmed bread with olive oil and balsamic (not dressed up in any way), I was immediately annoyed but tried to have an open mind. We loosened up a bit and decided to move forward and ordered the arrancini. Not sure what made them special as they were 3 small pieces for $20- maybe saffron? These felt insignificant as an app. No sauce, they had a squirt of some kind of aioli on top. Then we waited 40 minutes to order the ragu. Why wouldn't one of 4 items on the menu be ready for dinner service on a Saturday? An employee advised if I want the ragu to order it Bosciola style. I love a secret menu so took her advice but I received a $28 pasta dish which was like pasta swimming in cream of mushroom soup with no braised meat. We then got the $20 meatballs which were nothing to write home about. The social media person then asked if he could get in our space to get his shot. I think these guys are probably best with pizza and have some things to learn about service and value. If you are looking for an amazing Italian experience at the beaches, stick with Catullos. They do it right, have amazing service, you wont be disappointed, and they keep the bread coming. read more
