Despite what everyone below me would say, I thought the place was excellent. A little crowded, no privacy and noisy for my taste but who cares..I was there for the food. Everything we ordered was excellent. Bragging about their famous fried rice was on point! This is the best fried rice I've had in Texas! If you go for anything, go for the fried rice. Staff was very friendly and attentive (plus I loved looking at the waitresses) I would recommend this place for a cheap-but-good meal. You'll probably go home with a doggy bag. read more

It may look like your average neighborhood restaurant, but Mambos is anything but! I wandered in with two friends on a Thursday night, and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff (Mili) and incredible aroma. The restaurant was filling up quickly (it was almost 7:00 pm) but we managed to snag a good table. Mili was outstanding, super nice, patient and gave us great recommendations. Will be back for sure! Was pleasantly surprised. I have passed this place a thousand times while in Houston. Pinched for time I decided to stop in for lunch. The service was great the restaurant was very clean and the food was very good. Will eat here again. The grilled shrimp and fish were very good. We stopped here because we saw that it was popp'n but the service was lack luster and the table looked like the floor of a soup kitchen. Usually when you start a meal off on the wrong foot its hard to redeem yourself and one way you can do that is with great food. Amazingly fresh, and they let you know by including a fish market INSIDE the restaurant! Every plate is tasty, and for those not wanting everything deep fried, they have great grilled options too! My wife really enjoyed her grilled fish and shrimp (skewered). The Mambo Fried Rice is delicious. I personally enjoyed the Spicy Fried Rice. They give you tons of it! I didn't understand how some people could eat it on its own before going in, but after tasting it, I see why. I ate what I ordered and I had to take some to go :D Great unique atmosphere. I ordered and got my meal. I thought I ordered grilled fish and shrimp but it came out fried fish with ranchero sauce. I said not what I ordered the waitress got the manager Lorena. I normally like Mambo but once again I was disappointed with the service. It was very confusing trying to explain to the waitress what we wanted. I asked for a pound of shrimp with the chipotle sauce & she said they don't sell it by the pound, I ended up ordering the shrimp appetizer. Once I finally got our food ordered I was looking over the menu again & found the shrimp by the pound, cooked in your choice of sauce, at the bottom. I was staying at the courtyard near the airport asked the front desk where I should go for dinner, they recommended Mambos. I asked the bartender for whatever he recommended and I was not disappointed. Unfortunately I'm not even sure what he gave me, I had a shrimp appetizer that was in a spicy garlic sauce and a grilled fish with rice, and both were exceptional. Also the service was fantastic!!! I've always been curious about this restaurant because I saw pictures on FB and according to my friends, the food was good. So I decided to take my parents here for dinner. It was such a disappointment! It was so crowded so it took forever for the waitress to get our order and for the food to come out. The music was so loud that we had to talk loud in order to hear each other. Food came out greasy. The fried rice had the burned oil smell. Shrimp cocktail had a funny taste. Fries was stale. I was a regular at the edgebrook location until today.. took my mother there for Mother's Day for a early brunch. Was told there would be about a 30 minute wait. No problem. After a hour wait, I went in to check status and was told they were not seating anyone due to too many carry out orders. There were several tables open. I don't get it. I've only been once but I'm hooked! This unassuming little seafood restaurant has a great friendly, attentive waitstaff and superb food! I was a little skeptical of visiting this place at first because from the outside, it doesn't look like a great seafood restaurant. My friends and I almost passed it by. I'm glad we didn't! This Mexican/seafood fusion eatery has something for everyone. From hamburgers to chicken to seafood, the menu is quite varied. They even have a menu showing pictures of the menu items. Everything looked so good it was hard to make a decision. I eventually settled on the grilled Monterey chicken and my friends got seafood plates after a starter of fried calamari. The calamari was lightly breaded and there were fried butterfly shrimp also included on the plate. The cocktail sauce was spicy and had a great flavor. My chicken came on a bed of fried rice. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the chicken was moist and tender. I didn't even need to use my knife to cut it. I practically licked the plate clean. Since crawfish season and a big fan of the mudbugs, I am again on a seasonal mission to try crawfish at as many restaurants as possible. Thought to try crawfish at Mambo, the eighth restaurant in the last two weeks. Service was very good and attentive. Even the manager came by and chatted. A bit about the crawfish and accouterments. I first tried 1 lb along with a corn cob and potato. All very close to perfectly cooked such that the tail meat was firm, tender and flavorful. There is a caveat, though, the boil is not very spicy in terms of pepper but super loaded with garlic (more than 20 chopped cloves came along in the tray with my 1 lb of crawfish). I guess this is what is meant by Mambo style -- it's different, and I actually liked, although could imagine some patrons not appreciating. After consuming the first 1 lb and putting this #2 for crawfish in restaurants tried this year, I ordered another 1 lb. Oddly, this came out a bit cold and overcooked, but with the same intriguing garlic sauce. The second batch would be in the middle of the pack of places I have tried. I guess need to work on consistency, but overall a good experience for crawfish. read more

My wife and I always get treated with absolute great service and all the patrons are friendly as can be. The curbside is completely disorganized! Not only do they not have dedicated curbside parking but the curbside parking attendees lack any effort of actually finding the vehicle there to pick up the order. When waiting for almost 30 min after pick up time scheduled and having to honk and wave my arms out of my window to grab attention, something is being done wrong. read more

I love this place but came to this location and was very disappointed. It took 45 minutes to get our food and another 15 minutes to get our rice (mambos regular shrimp fried rice). By the time we got our rice the rest of the food was cold. I showed the waitress a picture of what we wanted when ordering and what I got was completely different. When I asked them they said that things don't always look like the picture. I will let everyone be the judge to see if I got what I ordered. read more

I asked if I could substitute the rice for the habanero rice , I wouldn't have mind paying the difference, however I was told it couldn't be done . I've been a F&B manager for many years and as a person who knows how to run a business i would have never lost an up sale . Keep you're food cost low with high profit margins is how u capitalize and grow . I'm having a hard time understanding why u wouldn't allow a simple customer request , I wasn't asking for you to debone a fish for me or being very particular . Simple request denied . I went here for the first time today. The crab cakes were really good, mambo rice was a large portion, fried shrimps were lightly batter, which I liked a lot. Nice clean food, clean restaurant, friendly staff, I gave the waitress a little extra since it's Christmas. read more

First impression of the place is that it's dirty... VERY dirty. Smells like mop water... there's mop water all over the floor... literally! The food wasn't bad, but the cleanliness of the place doesn't help. I had the #3 fish fillet with rice. The waitress only came to our table twice. We had to flag her down in order to get our checks, she finally came after about 15-20 minutes of trying to get her attention. Best crawfish in town. It's obvious that they clean there crawfish thoroughly, they use tons of garlic, and plenty of spice. They also have amazing oysters. Their micheladas are also the best in town. If it's not spicy enough for you, they're always happy to add more. read more
