Food was good but not enough for the money. Service was a hit or miss. We did like the place. Hoping everything improves on my next visit

Food is ok 3service 5soup 1 no flavor and they also charge for tortillas even if you didn't ask for tortillas lemons are old spoiled

Food is hands down delicious, their fried rice is my favorite. I've lived in Texas for 7 years and the fried rice is the best Ive had so far and that's saying a lot for seafood place! If you haven't gone yet! You will not be disappointed! read more

We tried Mambos restaurant in San Antonio for the first time. we were not impressed. ordered the calamari as an appetizer..it was overcooked and extremely crunchy..too much batter and could not even taste it. Had the fried shrimp and fries. They were average at best. The hype I read about was overdone. This is barely better than Long John Silvers. I would not recommend nor will I go back..very disappointed. read more

Decided to give it a try since friends suggested it I was greeted by the hostess all was going ok we waited 10 min for table of 5 guests. We were seated and we waited another 5 min at the table and I see plates handed to tables next to me and their waiters and waitresses all very friendly, I was excited.. until OUR waitress arrives with an expression of if someone can roll their eyes without rolling them that would be her I quickly realized she (name tag : Azul) did not want to be there she quickly asked what we wanted to eat and wrote it down and walked away only to return 5 min later and say "oh yea what do you want to drink anyway " I suddenly knew this was gonna suck. She seemed very friendly and talkative to other waitresses and even smiling with them but not to us and her uniform sleeve even said staff trainer ! (Hopefully for this place sake she's not). Our appetizer came out it was the calamari it was ok no flavor and mainly breading then our entrées came and since our waitress did not explain how the plates can be customized differently with options the restaurant offered the plates were not what we were expecting also we ordered a cheeseburger with fries only to see it presented with white cheese and no where in the menu did it say white cheese so that was not a fun experience trying to convince an autistic child that cheese is also white but we tried to enjoy our meals and when we asked for additional limes which we got way into the meal which makes you wonder what's the point now and also a party of 5 trying to share 4 napkins because we never got more after our appetizer also never got refills on our drinks. I've never hurried to finish a meal to just leave we were ready to get out but we had to flag down another waiter cause ours just went missing we told the waiter her name tag says Azul and she's missing and his facial expression was like " ahh" like if he knew she's problematic he comes back with her and the checks in hand we present our cards and were more then ready to leave she comes back with the portion to sign and leaves ... and we're there with the checks and NO PENS !! so I get up and I ask another waitress for a pen. She looks at me with a bewildered look and hands me a straw A STRAW !!! I I was so upset I don't even know where I got a pen but I just signed for our ticket and left worst experience ever If you want sea food DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STICK TO SEA ISLAND OR LAGUNA MADRE at least you won't be disappointed and with waitresses like her this place will be closed soon anyway. read more

Heard about this new Restaurant Mambo's... decided to visit this week. First the waiter was excellent, well informed on menu and clearly described and recommended items on there menu. I ordered the combination with stuffed shrimp, stuffed crab, fried fish and shrimp and took the waiter's recommendation on the Mambo Shrimp fried rice and ordered a seafood soup as an appetizer. The soup was unique in that it had potatoes, cabbage with tiny bait shrimp and a coupon pieces of fish fillets, the flavor was super fishy. I added lime juice to cut the strong taste. The main course although sounded appetizing, was not worth the $20 price. It had 3 fried shrimp, butterflied very thin, 2 pieces of fried fish about 3" square , 1 stuffed crab and 1 stuffed shrimp. The rice was absolutely unpalatable, it seemed like steamed rice soaked with soy sauce and a few tiny bait shrimp. Over all not an enjoyable experience other than the pleasant waiter. There are much better options in San Antonio for seafood. Total thumbs down for this place read more

Arrived at 5 expected to wait but we opted for the bar, no wait time. The oysters on the half shell were clean with no grit or shell residue, so awesome! The fried shrimp was very lightly battered and butterflied, so tender and good. They offer a shrimp fried rice as a side and it's delicious. Good and yummy BUT music is TOO LOUD! It's hard to have conversation and enjoy your meal in a group because the music is blaring. The concrete floors, metal bar, wooden booths just bounce music very loudly. read more

the lady taking names was horrible she said could not tell us how long wait was and there was another person running around just asking who had been there longe. I don't know why they ask for your name and your phone number when they were not updating in the system she said she did not know how to work it. After a while, the gentleman came back and said if people wanted to sit outside in the patio and he said the kitchen was closed because they were backed up. This is ridiculous. Hire someone who knows how to work the system. No manager in sight. We left. read more

My 1st visit and the last. I understand this is new restaurant but they are not able to handle the amount of customers that show up. They staff is young and needs guidance by who ever is in charge. After waiting almost an hour to be seated, my food arrive and look like everthing was just thrown on the plate. Salad was mixed with hot food instead of in a bowl or separate plate. This place was packed and although there was a pretty good wait (40 mins or so) the food was delicious and it was worth the wait. The mambo shrimp blew our minds away. The adult beverages were delicious. Prices were actually reasonable and portion sizes were good. The calamari were perfectly done. If you like octopus try the octopus in the mambo sauce. I was excited to go and try Mambo in SA for the very 1st time. The setting is clean and the AC was just right on a very hot day. But then everything went subpar after being seated. First, our waitress was unfamiliar with the menu and kept going to go get confirmation when asked simple menu questions and still had no answers for follow up food questions. Second, our order took 42 minutes to get to our table and then when we finally got our food it was cold. When we told our waitress about this issue she looked at us with a strange look, as if we were wrong for bringing that to her attention. Her response was, well I hope you all come back to give the place a second chance..wow!!. Third, the manager finally came to our table to ask the same question and when we let him know that all our meals were cold and took a long time to get to our table his response was, "sorry to hear that" and then walked away. The veggies for our grilled fish/shrimp were not steamed or grilled and then to top it off we had no cutlery to cut into our veggies and salad that also came with huge pieces of tomatoes and jicama. The aguas frescas tasted like the flavors were either powder or some kind of artificial flavoring. We were disappointed in the service and the lack of empathy form the manager who couldn't even bother to apologize. Oh well I got to see Bruce Bowen eating a meal there and I let him eat his meal without bothering him for a pic or autograph. As for Mambo..you get one maybe two chances and then I never go back..I spent almost 100 bucks for three lunch meals and drinks..guess me, my money, and word of mouth will go somewhere else. First off, grilled shrimp was cooked perfectly but the service was really bad, walked in on a Saturday nite, when all other restaurants had a waiting line, Mambos was literally empty, I sat for 9 minutes with no one ever coming to my table, and I counted at least 8 wait staff walking around. I flagged down a woman wearing all black and thought she might be a manager and asked her for a menu, she looked at me like a deer in headlights, I said again, can I have a menu to order some food, she didn't understand a word of English and just walked off, never came back, Finally after another 3 minutes a real manager saw my frustration and promptly brought me my drink and menu, it turned out my waiter was next to me all the time talking to a group of people, don't know if they were family or friends, he comes by takes my order, and he never comes back to ask if i needed anything, I finish my meal and wait another 13 minutes to get the check, With service like this, it isn't a wonder why on a Saturday nite the place was nearly empty, If they keep this up, I'm sure they wont last and its a shame because the food is really good, I may go back, but I hope management from mambos reads this and straightens out the problem read more
