The food was excellent, the service was awesome, and the drinks were delicious! We ordered the sangria, which was fruity and light. The bruschetta was the perfect balance of tomato and garlic and the bread was perfectly toasted and not too soggy. We were having a hard time deciding between the short rib ravioli and Porcini Sacchetti, the waiter suggested the Sachetti. They were pillows of deliciousness! Perfectly cooked, and the sage butter was a perfect pairing. We also had the lobster ravioli special, it was a bit too rich for me with the creamy caper sauce, but on bites that had a little more lemon flavor it was really good! We had the tiramisu and lemon Italian cake for desert. The tiramisu was not overly soggy and very flavorful. The lemon cake was just a hint of lemon and the raspberry sauce was delicious! I wish it had a little more lemon flavor just to combat the creaminess of the frosting, but it was all super good! We will be back! read more

The only thing I didn't like about it was that there was a lot of oil or butter sitting at the bottom of the plate and the pasta was drenched in it (not in a good way). We had a fabulous dining experience at Mamma Mia. All of the staff were attentive and friendly. We thought the dining room was cozy and comfortable and had a lovely table by the window. First off, I need to apologize for no pictures. We were starved and I forgot. Arrived for lunch a little after 11am. You walk into the bar and nothing tells you what to do or where to go. I asked the woman working at the bar what we needed to do. She said to go right into the dining room. Walked in. Still nothing telling us what to do. A server noticed us and asked if we wanted a table. We were seated and checked out the menu. My friend was hoping they had a good steak. He ordered the ribeye with butter garlic spaghetti. I ordered the short rib ravioli and we shared a Mamma Mia salad. Salad was good. Lots of mixed greens with vinaigrette and Gorgonzola cheese and chopped nut dust. I wish there had been more candied nuts on top. We were also served sliced sourdough and butter. Food arrived. It all looked so good! The steak was a perfect medium rare with just enough grilling to make the fat buttery. So good! The butter garlic pasta was a little dry. More butter next time! My ravioli was ok. It was plated nicely. I really didn't like the texture of the short rib filling. It have been puréed so much that it had a kind of baby food texture, but dry. Flavor was good, but that texture was really off putting. I heard the table behind us getting the specials read to them after we had ordered. We weren't told of any specials. When you walk in you're greeted with a friendly hello that's a plus for us when going out to a restaurant not to mention this was our first time. We were here to celebrate my 56th Birthday... my husband, my daughter, my son in law and grandchildren, and my two sons. (Reservations for 7 and a baby) The restaurant is dressy or dressy casual. It has a classy upscale look. Our waiter Luis was Fantastic he explained the specials for the day which made our choices even more difficult to choose from. The food is TERRIFIC OMGOODNESS authentic fresh Italian cuisines. I will never want boxed pasta again after being spoiled by the superb tastes of Momma Mia. Your taste palette will dance after enjoying one of their delicacies. My daughter and I ordered the braised spare short rib ravioli, my husband had the Prime Lion Cut Pork Chop, My son and son in law had the Spaghetti and Meatballs, my grandson had Momma Mia Garlic Butter Pasta , and my youngest son had The JT Burger. I recently dined at Mama Mia, and it was quite the experience. The restaurant exudes a delightful old-school Italian ambiance that transports you straight to modern Italy. The staff was exceptional, and I must mention Tony, who went above and beyond to make our meal special. Now, let's talk about the food. The cuisine at Mama Mia is above average, but there's one small hiccup - it could use a touch more salt to bring out the flavors. Despite this, the dishes were well-prepared and authentic, making for a satisfying dining experience. The only downside was the drink menu. I was taken aback by the exorbitant prices, particularly the $20 charge for a Cadillac Margarita with Lalo Tequila, not to mention the additional $10 for Grand Marnier. To put this in perspective, a bottle of Lalo Tequila can be found for about $50 retail, which makes these drink prices seem exorbitant. Furthermore, the gentleman seated at the neighboring table also expressed his astonishment at the costly wine list, which featured several selections priced significantly higher than their retail value and what one would typically find in other restaurants. In summary, Mama Mia offers a wonderful Italian atmosphere, exceptional service, and delicious food, albeit a bit light on the salt. However, the overpriced drinks, especially the Cadillac Margarita, were a bit of a letdown. If you're willing to splurge, it's worth a visit for the overall experience, but be prepared for the pricey beverages. My overall rating would actually fall between 3.5-4.0 but I opted to round up because of the service and ambiance. read more

Had dinner last night at Mama Mia for my mother in law's birthday. The food was delicious! I just wish the night could've ended better. When we asked for the cake we brought in (butterfinger cake from Luigi's Restaurant and Delicatessen ), we were told it had melted. Our waiter told us it was placed in the refrigerator. My sister in law specifically told the waitress that sat us what it was and that it needed to be put in the freezer. Our waiter also said there was nothing he could do except bring a slice of THEIR butterfinger cake for my mother in law. We asked to speak to the owner. Nelson, the owner, came over and what he said to us was totally unexpected. Not that we asked, but he said he would not replace our cake with one from his establishment because HIS cake was SUPERIOR to Luigi's. His cake costs $60 and it's not his fault that we found it for a cheaper price elsewhere. No desire whatsoever to do anything to fix the problem. I have never heard an OWNER speak to their customers the way he did to us. Our bill was not small and we were there to celebrate. Didn't even get to sing to my mother in law. Has anyone else had this type of treatment from Mama Mia?? Again, not knocking the food, it was amazing! But not worth that type of customer service. Will not be dining here again. read more

They have a wide selection of wine and a full bar. Their service is superb and staff knows how to hustle and provide best service. Restaurant opens at 5pm. We had a reservation at 5pm, but we got there alittle early and they sat us anyways. The waiter we had was welcoming, very knowledgeable and answered all our questions with a smile. He gave us our menus, but he also told us about there specials and while we were deciding, he brought out our drinks and bread with olive tapenade. We started out with an appetizer, Calamari Fritta. This calamari is different from other restaurants. Best way to describe it is the calamari is its shaped like a pork chop but is served cut up into bite size cubes, then poured with lemon caper cream sauce. I enjoyed this more than your standard Calamari at another restaurant. I ordered the special, a med-rare hanger steak with Penne noodles in lemon Casper cream sauce. That was very good. The steak was so tender and the Penne noodle covered in lemon cream sauce was also delicious. Totally recommended. My wife had there Bass special with a Sofia Salad. I didnt get a chance to take picture of her Bass plate. She ate it pretty quickly. She enjoyed every single bite. In the end the waiter brought us out a dessert (Lemoncello Tiramisu) for our Anniversary. This was an Anniversary dinner. Overall, we enjoyed our service, food and experience at Mamma Mia. I can see us returning back to try other dinner plates they offer. I only gave 4 stars because it was pricey. I had a beer and wife had water along with our plates and tip, bill was about $150 for two. I still recommended trying it out but be prepared to pay alittle more at Mamma Mia's. My boyfriend and I truly enjoyed our dinner experience here, the food was great, my sangria was just right and I honestly didn't expect to have dinner last minute here but I'm glad it happened! I got off of work at 6pm and called to see if they had anything available or if there was a wait and I was completely okay with there being nothing available because it's a very busy holiday for couples, but to my luck it was just a 30 minute wait and I was super happy! Our group of women get together once a month for dinner. Tonight we went to mamma mia. first, I have to say the waiter talks so fast we couldn't understand the specials. And before we could ask a question, he walked off. Eventually he came back. He took our drink order which two of us ordered a soda and one ordered a glass of wine he did not come back for 15 minutes, and he brought the two sodas and not the glass of wine. She waited another 10 minutes before she got her wine. I ordered the short rib ravioli, my friend ordered the Oso Buco ravioli, and our other friend ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. My order was so salty I could not finish my meal. My friend who ordered the Oso Buco said that the marinara sauce was cold so it ruined her dinner. Our other friend ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and was quite satisfied. I tried three times to get our waiter to fill my soda glass and as he brought us our bill, he finally brought me another soda. This is not a restaurant. I would recommend when they are busy because they obviously take shortcuts go on a night when there are not so many people. I'm not sure that we will try this restaurant again. read more

Mama Mia is a fantastic little trattoria with such a lively and energetic atmosphere with a well appointed bar and very good wine list. The menu is fantastic with so many options, and so I appreciated the fact that entrees came with pasta. I chose the pork chop and I thought it was utterly delicious, it had a garlic, rosemary butter sauce that was amazing and reminded me of Tuscan cuisine that I had in Tuscany (and missed). Others in our group ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, filetto mignon, rib eye, and the New York; everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. After dinner we sat at the bar with the lovely bartender, Juliet who made us fabulous after dinner drinks. Eating at Mama Mia is such a treat. A friend and I decided last minute to dine here on a Friday night. Obviously we didn't have reservations. It was very full and busy but we were able to get a seat at a cute both in about 25 minutes so it wasn't that bad. I will say though that it was very confusing when it came to checking in with the hostess. Their was no hostess stand at the front entrance or bar entrance of the restaurant so it got pretty annoying trying to track a hostess down. Luckily we decided to walk towards the kitchen and ran into a hostess. The bar area was pretty packed due to people dinning at the bar so we couldn't even order a drink to wait. Which is understandable, but it just means you have to wait outside. I feel like more money could be made if they had space designated to order drinks only. Our dinning experience was exceptional! The food was so darn delicious! Our server made great recommendations on wine and entrées. We really loved the house red wine! Coincidentally it's called Mama Mia! It's a red blend, a bit more sweet than I'm use too, but it was very easy to drink and paired well with the food. We had the Bocconcini (mozzarella balls) for an appetizer. They melted in your mouth. They come in a red meat sauce so you can use the bread they bring you to scoop up the left over sauce. We had to do something to balance out our meal so we also ordered the Mama Mia salad. It had such refreshing flavors. The pistachios and lemon truly paired well with the pepper flavor of the arugula. It did take a while to get our main entrees but our server kept checking in on us and updating us on the status of our food, so we were not bothered by it. For our main course we shared the Porcini sacchetti and the White Pasta with chicken. They both had great flavors. The chicken was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. But the star of the night was the Porcini! They literally exploded in your mouth with flavor. I wish I could have them everyday! I'm telling y'all ! GO TO MAMA MIA !!! read more

SO. SATISFIED. with our meal here! We were on our way to Sequoia NP and decided to make a stop here in Bako for my mom's 60th birthday dinner. We chose Mamma Mia last minute and had to make a reservation just few hours before. Luckily they had accommodated our party of 4, and was even able to seat us ~30 mins early upon our arrival, despite a busy night! We had ordered Calamari, the Sofia salad, the rib eye with garlic butter pasta as a side, and lastly the spaghetti barese. Honestly, EVERYTHING was amazing. The calamari is not like the normal ring type ones that you get at other restaurants, it was more square/bite-sized, which gave it better texture. The flavor on the steak were also amazing. Those 2 were my top favorites! It does get a bit loud, but it won't be a true Italian restaurant otherwise. Would definitely recommend tihs place! read more

Mamma Mia! Yes...Some amazing Italian food in Bakersfield. I definitely am excited about this place! First of all, the staff is super friendly and made some great suggestions. We ordered some yummy red and bruschetta to start. It was hard to choose! But I'm glad they highlight recommendation items on the menu! I was having trouble choosing from the osso bucco ravioli and the braised short rib ravioli so i asked the server what her recommendation was and she suggested that i have half and half! Winner! That really sold me! And i loved them both! My companions ordered the pasta purses that reminded me of the Luigi's versión and the chicken saltimboca. They were both happy with their choice. Holy moly my dinner was amazing. Tried the lamb chops medium rare and they were cooked to perfection. Although the service was a bit slow on a busy concert night, the tasty food made up for it.
