This restaurant seemed to be an upscale place from looking at their prices but the vibe and the food did not live up to that. The seating area was so close to the bar that there were people bumping into me while I was eating at the table and it was really uncomfortable. I wish there was more distance between the bar and the eating area or a limited amount of people could be in the bar area at a time. The food was also okay. We ordered the smoked fondue, which was quite pricy, and the cheese literally tasted like melted nacho cheese you get at the movie theatre. It however, is pretty large and can serve as an appetizer for 3-4 people easily. I ordered the Tavern Burger with sweet potato fries and my fries arrived cold. Without me having to even ask the waitress, which I wasn't going to anyways because I was okay with cold fries, she came with a new plate of warm fries which was really nice. I liked the customer service. Overall, I feel like their prices were unnecessary expensive and their restaurant vibe was not align with the experience I feel should come along with those types of prices. read more

Came here right at opening, 5pm. There were seven of us so we sat at two bar height tables. In an effort to not have anyone's back to each other we moved the tables from their 45° angle to a 90° angle and we IMMEDIATELY got reprimanded as if we were toddlers, a server screamed "We don't push tables together during the WINTER!" Mind you, the tables in their original state were about 3" apart, so we just turned them to be squared up with each other. We had our 70+ year old parents with us and since it was winter we couldn't sit facing each other? I noticed other servers telling their tables about the specials, drinks, happy hour, etc. But from our server...nothing. I do agree with the other reviews stating some of the staff have a little bit of a superiority complex, as if they are allowing you to be in their restaurant. Food was good, no complaints there. This place is disgusting. Will never eat here again, found a cockroach or some type of bug on my daughters plate when I was checking to see if she ate all her food. When I told the waitress she had the nerve to laugh and what upset me the most is her manager wouldn't even bother to come to the table to discuss the manner nor the owners who were both on site. Heard great things about this place, cool view for sure. The food was good. But, man, the service made the whole experience so unpleasant. Small requests seemed to be such a big deal and a burden to the staff. We actually cut the night short and went somewhere else. It was that bad. Maybe every one of them was having a bad day? Or a bad week? Etc. But, why take it out on patrons? I'd rather have great service and O.K. Food, than great food served with an attitude. There is no shortage of good/great food in Mammoth, why goto a place with poor service. Bummer, I really wanted to try the spicy chicken sandwich. Mammoth Tavern and CDC rules don't correlate. Besides the Tavern Burger tasting a grade above your gas station frozen section, my party and I cringed when we entered to make a reservation. No social distancing at all, clusters of people sitting back to back. The host was god-awful, assuming she was having a bad day. I'm truly at a loss for words. I called about the shepards pie (online menu stated it had mushrooms & i don't like those.) Eric, the fine gentleman who answered the phone, went to ask the chef if that was possible to remove them & they told me they had a brand new recipe that doesn't have mushrooms! so i popped in, absolutely amazing views instantly. top floor, full bar (i don't drink so i didn't get that experience.) beautiful architecture with wood & black accents. stunning to say the least. Jessie, the gentleman who sat me & took my order let me pick my table. menus & utensils on table upon arrival. lighting not to dark, not to bright. food was absolutely incredible. we got that shepards pie & shared it with a side of barbarian pretzels. it was the best shepards pie i have ever had - honest. (don't tell my mom.) the pretzels were so crispy & soft on the inside with nice warm pimiento cheese. now it was pretty pricey. i paid $29 for the pie & $12 for the pretzels & the best ice cold perfect water (free). when you have a damn near perfect experience like this, i have to give credit when due. these guys get all 5 stars! i will be back & i highly recommend recommend recommend! read more

Sad to be very let down. Locals of over 40 years and this was the worst experience at a restaurant by far. Sat down at 4:20 and family of 5. 4:30 we ordered drinks all on Happy Hour and oyster. at 4:50 staff came back with drinks and oysters. Family saw the long wait and decided to put in the full order at 4:50. Tables all around at 5:40 were receiving meals and myself went to see what was wrong. They stated that staff was having a rough time with family matters. 5:55 we received all food at once including an appetizers that weren't what we ordered on top of that wrong cocktails that they said would be compensated and wasn't. Overall we received barley no service nor responsibility on possibly messing up. I worked at a very busy restaurant in Mammoth for years. Yes, mistakes happen people may have rough days but it's taking responsibility. Hopefully this will not happen to anyone else . read more

Oysters on the half shell with traditional mignonette and fresh horseradish/cocktail sauce. Special oysters of the day with mango, green onion, radish, tobiko salsa. Fun and beautiful presentation. Grilled artichoke with roasted red pepper, parmesan, lemon and a garlic aioli. We couldn't stop eating it and again, beautifully presented. Strawberry arugula salad with asparagus, quinoa, marcona almonds, feta and poppyseed dressing. Added chicken skewer to it. Substantial. Creative. Heavenly. This was a late lunch. This was a culinary disaster. We were told it was a 45 minute wait. 1.2 hours later we were seated next to the door. Worse, we were told by the hostess that due to the over long wait they would wave the $25 corkage fee. So when we then bought s bottle of wine across the hall only because of the hoatess' accommodation, management refused to honor the accommodation. When we asked the manager to at least reduce the corkage due to the wait and promise, his response was rules are rules. Take the stairs up, we felt terrible going into the Thai restaurant and not giving them business. Firstly, if you're getting drinks - their signature drinks are AWESOME! From the looks of it, they mix it up - so keep an eye out. We ordered the Pandamonium and it was A-MAZ-ING! The food is also great! We got a mix of surf and turf - Blackened Ahi Tuna - It's an appetizer, but serves as a main dish as well. The peanut sauce that it comes with, I would drink that if I could. The tuna was seared, could have used a few extra seconds on each side (to my taste). But nice and pink, tender and on the inside. The thin, spiraled cucumber is also a great touch, adds freshness to the dish. And don't let the small drops of green sauce fool you - that's wasabi and it's potent! Braised Short Rib Grilled Cheese - perfectly cooked short ribs, enveloped in a balanced grilled cheese, need I say more? The short ribs melted in your mouth, the bread adds a great bite, and the combo of cheese - it brings everything together. You just need a good cook on the meat to really make this sandwich, as the grilled cheese adds the richness, salt, and texture. And the short ribs are just that! Separate food available at different parts of the tavern, and not very impressive menus selection. I didn't like any of the beer. They had a Marzen, which is usually my go to favorite. This was our last night in Mammoth and by FAR our best meal and service without a doubt. We had oysters, spinach and artichoke dip to start. Dip was not your usual dip, has to be house made. Had the butterfly kiss cocktail which was smooth and not sweet. For our main course we had the stuffed flounder and the Ahi Tuna. Both were cooked just right. The flounder was one of the best fish plates I have ever had. Had the lemon sponge cake with grilled peaches and raspberry puree, great way to finish off the night. Can't say much about the food but the drinks were top notch. I got the upside down which is a crazy concoction of Bourbon, coffee, Fernet menta, Lime, banana, and walnut. Sounds insane but it has the coffee kick at the front and a nice smooth bourbon finish at the end. Great food, great atmosphere, super friendly service! My husband and I never get out to enjoy a meal kid free, so it was nice to sit and chill while drinking a cocktail (or two haha). Our food came out fast, and all was exceptional quality! We started with the shrimp ceviche (bomb), my husband ordered the seared ahi, and I ordered the Turkey sandwich. Great food, gorgeous view, easy-going yet nice atmosphere. It's not a big place, but we never felt crowded at our table (must be the expansive views of the mountains on three sides). The bar was nice to hang around in (and it has a good happy hour), and we chatted with others about our day on the mountain. Was also nice that it felt a bit more adult and upscale--not the usual apres ski party place. They offer a mix of good inexpensive food (ex., meatball sub), while doing a nice job on more fine dining. I had the chicken breast, which was cooked perfectly. It was served on bed of very good gnocchi and roasted butternut squash and zucchini. It was light, fresh and very tasty, and I cleaned my ample serving off my plate. They had excellent service, and also had a couple of good wines on their list, mostly at fairly reasonable markups. This is now one of my favs in Mammoth. read more

The first time we went I gave this place 5 stars. There is a chicken dish with a Jalapeño Corn pancake.. I keep ordering this hoping for a different outcome. The best food I have ever tried! Fondue is the best! Service is quick and friendly! Tried the chips and dip, don't let these dip past you... you gotta try them! This is the type of restaurant where locals and regulars rule. It doesn't seem like that type of vibe would be good for business, but maybe they make enough from their regulars? I thought the food and cocktails were great, five stars. We got there after the dinner rush so there were a handful of open tables and were sat right away. Not nearly as packed as I've seen it before. A couple who was sat right after us were served their drinks and appetizer before we could even ask for water at our table. The staff told us "oh, we didn't even know you were sat there." LOL, well who sat us? Such a small place with such a BS excuse. Anyway, we waited about 20 minutes to be approached. The drinks came out about 15 minutes after that, and we didn't get our water until we were halfway done with dinner. They seated us on opposite sides of the tavern after we specified that we wanted to be seated together to celebrate our engagement. When he brought my salad home, I was shocked by the chicken. For $7, I got 3/4 pieces of dry, hard, cold chicken. I guarantee that was maybe 1/3 of a chicken breast and was not cooked to order.
