In town for a conference, myself and 5 colleagues dined at Mana + Pua. Most everything was sup-par. We ordered drinks, then ordered an appetizer for the table, then a bit later ordered our entrees. The appetizer came out at the same time as two entrees. Ten minutes later, two more entrees came out, then 15 minutes later the last two entrees came out, and they were dinner salads (the first two to get their entrees had already finished). The food was completely edible, but sub-par. Three of us ordered Ceasar Salad with seared Ahi. In all three cases the Ahi was completely cooked through. While the physical surroundings were nice, based on our experience, I can't recommend it and won't be going back. read more

Open air setting is nice as long as it's not too hot that day. Good addition to SALT and will keep this in the rotation as a place to meet people for early happy hour after work. i'm quite conflicted on this place. all i can say about my experience was that it was... awkward. we had a reservation for 5 at the bar top since it was the only table available at the time. not an issue at all i love bar top seating. we were waiting at the host stand for 10 minutes until someone came up to us. the hostess didn't really acknowledge us that much, she didn't give us menus and we were left waiting for 20 minutes with no water and no menus. i can't say how many times workers made eye contact with us and they just didn't acknowledge us. there's a guy behind the bar with slippers and board shorts who didn't know how to interact with customers, maybe the owners son? on another note my family and i heard screaming and yelling coming from the back. i'm not sure what was going on, the restaurant wasn't busy but we heard people cursing at each other and i saw the bartender leave in tears. mind you all of this happened before we even got menus on water. finally someone gave us menus but the whole ordering process felt condescending and snobby. after 45 minutes the appetizers finally came out. the fries were fries which were okay. i really enjoyed the candied bacon which was just crispy pork belly. i enjoyed my drink a lot as well it was super delicious. the dessert that they sponsored was fantastic as well. it sucks that the energy there was weird because it's a beautiful location. i won't be coming back to this place due the sheer awkwardness of our dine in. read more

We started with the bottomless Wycliffe mimosas for only $30 and then shared a few entrees which made the most amazing meal. We also go to hear the amazing singer and guitarist kimo, he played great songs and made the place feel great! The servers, specifically Karen, was so amazing and the vibe is so laid back it's a great place for a morning you need to brunch it out. read more

This place was kind of mid imo.. I enjoyed the original North Shore location a bit more than this one. I went twice since they opened a few months ago. The first time my bf and I went, we booked a reservation at opening just in case it was busy. When we arrived it was empty but the server still took 5 min to come and greet us. However, once seated, we had a great time. Their cocktails were yummy and so was their seasonal flatbread. Proceeding toy second experience. A friend and I decided to catch up over drinks and light dinner after work, and thought this would be a cute spot. After I arrived, I decided to get a table before my friend came. I stood there awkwardly for a good 5-10 minutes before anyone came to greet me and ask if I wanted to take a seat. Although uncomfortable, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they couldn't see me because of the big chair they have blocking their view? The server proceeded to ask if I would like to sit at the bar or the table, I chose the table and sat down to wait. During this time, I knew it was their happy hour but was not aware that we would have to sit at the bae to be eligible to order. When my friend arrived and sat, it was not till after that he informed us about that fact.. and because we were already comfy.. we decided to stay where we were. The drinks were still good and the decor of the place is always cute and charming. However, the flatbread was just okay. Mixed with the okay service, and napkins flying everywhere due to the restaurant being on a terrace, it was just okay. I don't know if I would pay $45 again for a meal. Also, sometimes I get a weird vibe in there(?) I don't know whether it's because I'm in my younger 20s so I don't look as sophisticated as others? I don't know... Catered an event in early May. Totally overpriced, portions of food was very little. Fish was over cooked & dry & so was the chicken. Tossed salad was ok. Ran out of water & the coffee served was Luke warm. A bunch of us went out to eat after because 17 people who paid for their meals didn't get to eat because they ran out of food. The pomodore meatball accompanied by the homemade focaccia bread . Clam chowder which my friend ordered looked absolutely delicious. Each dish that arrived at our table was farm to table each created with pride . The fresh catch of the day was Marlin and it was caught that same morning . So fresh and flavorful. This place is what Honolulu needs more of - great lanai for fresh air but not exposed, fresh tasty food, good menu size so your whole party can order easily, excellent service. As I thought about it, it's kind of a more casual Longhi's. Been three times, and left in a good mood every time. My guests were similarly happy. Owner comes around to talk story, and she is personally invested in the entire thing from photos on the wall to (of course) the food and wine. Hope this place becomes a local institution. read more

We had another delicious meal at Mana + Pua last night! The food and wine list is so point here and there's definitely something on the menu for everyone. The atmosphere was wonderful at nighttime and they even added more seating in the dining room. However, the service was not nearly as good as our first visit. Our waitress/bartender was not attentive at all as she had friends dining at the bar who she was talking to throughout the duration of our meal. Guests were having to ask for silverware, shared plates and one party next to us even had to ask for menus. For a restaurant that just opened, you'd hope service would match the quality of their dishes and beautiful space. We'll absolutely be back because of the amazing cuisine and great ambiance and hopefully the service is better next time too! read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE me and my girlfriend walked in for happy hour, couldn't tell if the place was open or closed because the 2 staff that was working didn't say anything until I said are you guys open? The one guy said yes. That was it, no have a seat or how many people in your party. We sat ourselves at a table, got a menu and asked if they still have happy hour, he said yes it's at the bar so I asked if we can sit at the bar he said yes. Sat ourselves at the bar and waited for some acknowledged, notice there was ONE other customer who was on the phone the whole time. Finally asked to get a menu by the other worker who was a female. She was so nice and checked on us here and there. she said her shift was closed and told that's fine and we'll close out with her. We ordered about 6 drinks, the salad, mussels, flatbread of the day and an oyster shooter. The only good thing was the mussels. The " Caesar salad" was all lemon and pepper tasting with a weird dressing, the flat bread of the day had no flavor, we used the drippings from the mussels on the flatbread. We ended up re-opening our tab for one more round of drinks, closed that tab and left. At the end of the night I was just checking my emails and seen I got an emailed receipt from them. It was one more dollar then I know I put on there. I know it was just a dollar but the way this "owner" named Ashley handled was horrendous. I first called the number on the receipt literally when no attitude what so ever I just wanted then to double check it, she answered the phone and I said hey I was just there today at 6pm and I think there was a wrong charge for tip in my card. Here literal response "IM NOT THE RESTAURANT" ..... my response well that's the number on my receipt. Why you put your number on there and not the ESTABLISHMENT phone on there. I can see where the bad service stems from. She proceeded to say that she can pull up my receipt on her laptop. She found my receipt but not the copy where I signed and added tip. She had so much attitude for an "owner" and you would like that she would want people to come back but by judging by other reviews on here and even on google she's a special one. She then said she will check the receipt tomorrow when she goes in and personally Call me to make sure it says $4 instead of $3, never got that call,never got an apology and never got a sense that she care if people cameback or not. She literally a joke and will run this restaurant to the ground with her horrible attitude. Service was epitome of slow. Employees just sitting at the bar doing nothing as people walked in. 40 minutes in and they still hadn't got around to taking our food order. Prices are high compared to area spots. People seated after us got their drinks and food ordered before we decided to give up and walk across the way to Pitch and eat. read more

The ambiance and service were amazing and the place is super cute. There were just a few things that made it not worth the price: I made a reservation through their website to go with my family and I hadn't been here before. For some reason, on their online reservations - it had an option for "inside" or outside and I selected inside. However, when I got there we soon were informed (and saw) that the restaurant is on the 2nd floor and a [cute] outside only deck. So unsure why the inside option was there on their website but it was okay. Our table was ready for us which was great. We ordered the Burger, SALT platter, Ricotta Ravioli (V), and Pappardelle Bolognese. Out of everything, my favorite was the Ricotta Ravioli as it was very flavorful and had a great accent from the cherry tomotoes they put in. All the other dishes were WELL overpriced for the quality. The Burger tasted almost bland and was pretty dry, SALT platter was good but definitely not worth the $45 due to the amount of bread provided to try the meats and cheese with, and the Pappardelle was also dry and did not have much sauce. They did validate parking up to 1 hour (we were there for 2 hours and so had to pay $2 for parking). I think there was free street parking if you walk a bit farther but we circled once and didn't see anything so went to the paid lot. The paid lot rates weren't terrible. Overall, the food quality wasn't good enough for me to want to go back and pay that amount of money again but the atmosphere and service still made for a pleasant experience for my family and I so I'm glad we tried it once. read more

I am so excited to be writing this review. I am very happy for Ashley and her Ohana. What a beautiful spot. I frequented the north shore location regularly, and was so sad to see them close. That being said this is a very different vibe. This is elevated dining, and cuisine with an island feel. I love that you get the warm hug of the breeze, with the open air set up. The food was fantastic - truly one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. I had the Mahi with the pomodoro sauce, and a Cesar. Really wonderful. Wine list was great. Service was great. Beautiful family photos on the wall. Not many spots can perfect Hawaii with a European flair - but this does it. So happy Mana + Pua is back. read more

We made reservations for 3 at the bar. The place is cute, and had plenty of open tables. We were seated quickly and given 2 food menus. And then that was the end of the services we received. No welcome from the bar tender, we were never given drink menus, and no one approached us to even drop off waters. The host and the server were dressing a table with settings and restock bar glasses and the bartender stood there and did nothing. I can see why the place was empty, we were the only locals there. We sat there for 15 mins with no help. We walked out quietly. But I'm expressing how disappointed I am here. My mom booked the reservation on open table as she was excited to try this place. She visits from out of island so these outings are special for her. We were the only locals in there. So maybe that's why we weren't served. I took my Mom and to dinner on Friday night for my mom's birthday. The wine list is very well curated and the staff was well educated on it. We got a flatbread and the venison/pork belly burger and they were both incredible! The burger had a nice aioli and was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested. The flatbread special was a lightly seared ahi with a tzatziki sauce and Mediterranean flavor profile that was perfect with a nice light crust and a crisp bottom but still tender. The service was great, not all over you every minute but they would come over just at the right time! It was pretty busy but we were very well attended to. This place has potential but our experience wasn't great and I believe might be explained by insufficient staff. 1. Made a 6PM reservation. There is no hostess so after 5 minutes we just wandered in and let someone know we were there. No menus were provided upon seating so I went back to the front and grabbed them. 2. The restaurant was nearly empty but it took 10 minutes to get drinks. 3. Food, one starter, one salad, and one entree took 40 minutes and that was after I checked on it. Drink reorder wasn't offered so we asked and then had to check on that as well. 4. Sashimi - 4 very, very thin slices. Overpriced. 5. Cesar salad with grilled shrimp - Costco grade salad. Shrimp were under seasoned. 6. Lobster gnocchi. Gnocchi slightly overcooked but overall not bad, but not something I'd reorder. Overall I wish them well but I wish it had been better. read more

This was a great discovery. We went to SALT to figure out what to eat for lunch and came upon this place. It's upstairs, seating is very comfortable and open-aired with quality shade. They have excellent drinks, and the food was awesome. We got the mai tai and the Nightbird, both were yummy and strong. I ordered the calzone, which came with a flavorful side of marinara and overall was very yummy. She got the poisson cru, a poke-ish dish which she enjoyed very much. Together we got the baked oysters (ostriche all'italia): they weren't fully baked, wasn't sure if that was how that was supposed to be as I've had baked oysters elsewhere that were fully cooked through. But they were good nonetheless. We also got the focaccia, it was very crunchy and came with a tasty butter spread. The service was spot-on, very friendly and attentive and yet not overbearing. The overall atmosphere was relaxing and cool. We had such a great time, we felt like we were on vacation. And the prices were acceptable!! We've lived in Honolulu for over 10 years. We've seen restaurants come and go. The nature of our island makes it very hard for a restaurant to hit the sweet spot of taste, portion, service and price. But Mana+Pua hits the bullseye. We've eaten there about 5 times (as a family, with coworkers, with customets) and every time we've tried something different. We've been very surprised how every plate exceeds our taste bud expectations. Personally, my taste buds are directly connected to my wallet. Don't get me wrong, you can find VERY tasty meals in Honolulu but the portions can often be small or the price you pay can make your eyes water. Mana Pua doesn't skimp. You can have a tasty meal in a great setting with great service any time of day. read more

It's semi-outdoor seating with an open slat roof that can close if it gets too sunny or rains. I don't think there's air conditioning but we went in the evening and the weather was nice, not too warm. Ambiance is light and fun. We went for happy hour. There wasn't a host or server to greet or seat anyone coming in either even during dinner hour. My friend got there before me and had her wine when I got there but the bartender didn't come back to take my order until awhile later after our other 2 friends arrived. We were at the bar. For some reason when I asked about what red wine they had for happy hr (it says to ask on the menu) the bartender ignored me, made a comment about rose and told us if we all drank rose we should get a bottle. He seemed set on serving the rose. Whatever, there was probably a spiff for the restaurant to promote that wine? We weren't all planning on rose but he wasn't really listening so we took the bottle of rose? Lol. We ordered the flat bread and didn't realize it had a clam topping. It was "meh." The bartender came to check on us and commented that our flat bread was served way before the other dishes because it was given to us by mistake and should have gone to another group. I guess it was nice of him to explain if we had commented about the delay in our other dishes (we had not) but at the same time he made it sound like it was our fault we got the dish early. He could have just said the other dishes were coming out a little later and left it at that. The other dishes were a smoked fish spread on toast and moules pommes frites. The pomme frites were okay. Here's where there's an issue though. My friend found a hair in the smoked fish spread. The bartender's reaction was "do you know if it was there earlier or did it fly in later?" Like a breeze could have carried it from another customer to the spread. Possible but from a customer service perspective not the best multiple choice answer for him to select imo. And I have worked in restaurants. My friend was grossed out it and although he said he'd replace the fish spread she declined. Like what if it didn't land in there "after" and started out in the main container they kept the spread in? It get's better. My friend's bf shows up and starts chatting it up with the bartender, because he's a charming chatty and social guy, about sports and boy things. Then orders a beer. They hit it off. At the end of the night we asked to close out the tab. My friend's bf offers to pay and when the bartender brings him the check tells him that's he's comp'd his beer. Not the dish with the hair in it. The beer. I get it, maybe he didn't have the ability to comp the food but could control the beer? Maybe the beer was the same price so he figured it offset it fine. Donno. That's kinda not the point and my gf was super annoyed and pointed it out on the check to me but by then I was "whatever" and figured that's kinda how they run it there . I do think the regular dinner menu looked better. We left later during dinner hour and the food looked good? Their website menu looks great. Maybe stay away for happy hour for now until they figure it out. They've only been open a month so they might still have to settle in. read more

We received a gift card for Mana+Pua so we figured we'd try it out. We went on a Monday night for dinner- 7:10 pm to be exact. When we sat down it took a few minutes to get menus. It seems like there was only one server and I believe the manager was assisting. He did more harm than good because we ordered our appetizers (duck fat fries and smoked fish spread), it took 30 minutes for our fries to come out and that was the only thing that came out because they put in the wrong order instead of the spread. No one checked in on us to order our mains so at that point we cancelled the fish spread and asked for the check. The guy was apologetic that he missed placing a ticket but at this point, it was almost 8 pm and we hadn't had a chance to order our main entrees. Don't get me wrong, the food (fries) was great. The service was just really shitty. We still gave them a tip because really, I can't blame the server for being by herself. Management needs to do better. Would I come back and ~try~ to eat here again? Absolutely not. Would I recommend this place to others? Only if you don't mind waiting 30 minutes for your appetizer and don't mind wrong orders on your table. Other than that, n o. Anyway, you've been warned. read more

The staff for not being busy really unprofessional and took forever to greet and check in on us. The place is really cute. Had the mussels and fries. Fries were hot mussels not and it was in an overly heavy cream sauce with an added funky blue cheese. The limoncello spritz's were good but my husbands glass was fuller than mine guessing no measuring used. We asked about dessert and the staff no clue but luckily a guest who might have been a kitchen staff having his after shift drink saved the day by knowing. I'd go again maybe. read more

The mussel were the best I ever had. the fired Brussels sprouts were light crispy and tasty! The Charcuterie had wonderful selection of meats, cheese and veggies. If I could give this negative stars I would. My experience at Mana + Pua Salt was extremely disappointing. The staff completely forgot to take our order, and after waiting for an extended period, we found out they were out of almost everything we wanted. The worst part is that no one informed us of this until we spoke to the manager and 1 daughter was left with no entree. Instead of offering any sort of apology or solution, the manager just told us they were out of her food. This kind of disorganized service and lack of communication is unacceptable. I won't be returning, and I suggest others avoid this place as well read more
