Delicious food! We ordered takeout and the food was ready upon arrival, was accurate, and tasted great. The meals seemed to be pricy when we ordered but upon seeing how large the portions sizes were this was understandable. They have a good amount of menu items to choose from as well. Favorites include the orange teriyaki beef stir-fry, ribs, and BBQ pork sandwich. The seared tuna salad was good but the tuna was cooked more than what we had requested. The pizza here was so good we went two nights in a row. We are both big fans of thin crust pizza; Manchester's thin crust is the best I've ever tried. Thin & crispy, like a cracker. And they do not skimp on the toppings. The first night we ordered half Mexican, half Greek. The Mexican was AMAZING, but so was the Greek. The next night we ordered half Napoli, half meat lovers. Again, both were exceptional! There was so much meat on the meat half & the banana peppers & mushrooms on the Napoli half really set it off. I can hardly wait to go back & order another combination. First night we went was on a Thursday and they were busier than I thought they'd be on a frigid weeknight. The next night was equally as cold out & they were packed with a half an hour wait time. Since there was just two of us we actually we're seated immediately which was awesome. The wait staff is great. It was Dan's birthday & they treated him to a free dessert. Fantastic place. The food all seemed frozen and reheated. Gordon Ramsey and kitchen nightmares- this place needs your help. Additionally, the waitress left halfway through the meal. I mean, she was hardly there to get us anything even when she was present. The mixed drinks are trash, overpriced and terribly made. Oh and the wings! They're miniature wings apparently due to a "wing shortage"? Meh. All bone and no meat yet (as the staff disclosed to us) they're the same price as the normal wings they had before. Another wonderful find. My husband and I are transferring to the Raleigh area and found this great restaurant on yelp. The restaurant is located in a up-and-coming area in North Raleigh. The restaurant was beautifully decorated clean and the employees were all friendly. We were greeted promptly and seated at our table. Our waitress greeted us promptly and told us about the specials the restaurant was having for that day. Ok, we are really liking Raleigh!! Fabulous people and such a great city with even more fabulous restaurants!!! We ordered the Manchester pie, this pie was incredible, it had a thin crust and toppings galore, there were so many toppings you literally could not eat this pizza with your hands!! You first had to use a fork to scoop up most of the toppings before you're even able to lift the pizza. Fresh ingredients, accompanied by a wonderful crisp thin crust made for a fantastic pie! We enjoyed our pizza and also enjoyed the recommendations for the local places to go by our waitress. We did not try dessert ( this time) as the dessert menu looked wonderful, we were in a hurry and had homes to see. We absolutely will return to this restaurant once we are in situated in Raleigh. Ordered a large Supreme & calamari (they were out of chicken wings?!). This was an order to be picked up; was given the timeframe to be there so I picked up my order, got home looking forward to a good Father's Day dinner... opened the calamari, cold. Pizza, cold. I really wanted to like this place. I have been here 2-3 times at most and usually with the same family. They are from Chicago and love the Chicago style thin pizzas here as they remind them of home. I love thin pizzas but I am not a fan of their pizza. So a few days ago when we met again, I decided to order something different. I got the Caesar Salad with grilled shrimp. Can't go wrong with that, I thought to myself. Everyone enjoyed their pizzas and the side salad looked good so I was really looking forward to my lunch. It was HUGE (see photo) but the Romaine lettuce was the really dark bitter leaves - tough like kale or cabbage. The dressing and cheese was decent. The croutons were like sawdust and the shrimp? Not a grilled mark to be seen. They looked like heated up frozen shrimp. For the price I expected at least decent shrimp. $7.99 for the salad and get this add $8.99 for the 5 "grilled shrimp". Yikes! Now that the patriarch of this family has passed away there will be very little occasion to eat here and I for one plan to avoid it. The good, the bad and the ugly all happened at a recent visit to Manchester's Grill. Having never been before, we entered and opted to sit at the bar, which is fairly front and center when you walk in. After browsing the menu and inquiring on the beer prices (not listed on the menu and ranging from upwards of $3-$5/pint), pints were ordered--they do have Guinness on tap here and pour it correctly! As you look around the restaurant, you can tell that it's a local, family friendly spot. There were lots of children and we interacted with two bar patrons in the upper sixties that had been coming to this spot for 10-15 years. Service was fairly slow, but eventually returned to inquire about ordering. Before placing an order for the margarita pizza, we asked if they allow substitutions and the response was, "sure, do whatever you want!" So we subbed out the mushrooms for prosciutto and asked to add ricotta as well {they ended up replacing the tomatoes typically on their margarita pizza with the ricotta}. The pizza hit that early Sunday evening spot, it is served thin crust and cut into a "tic-tac-toe" board instead of diagonal slices. Pretty average, local pub food pizza. But after noticing the cook receipt tucked under the side, we were pretty startled. Someone (waitress or chefs, but neither would be good) wrote in the reference line on our order a comment that was both offensive as it was shocking. After showing this to the manager, he apologized profusely and comped our meal, the waitress also apologized and said it was an issue between the kitchen and herself and comped our two beers. This is not the type of behavior I'd expect at a family friendly hole-in-the-wall and I'd never expect to be insulted for what, ordering food? Asking if they'll make substitutions to a pizza? Asking how much their beers are? Honestly, it was an extremely awkward and a very unprofessional experience; I wouldn't patron this restaurant again. read more

OMG!!! I'm shocked that I'm giving this place 2 stars, but Manchester's Grill deserves it. I normally like the restaurants I go to, but not this one. I had to go to a meeting and we decided as a group to come here after the meeting. We got bread to start and it had felt like it had been sitting for a while because it was sort of stale. Our other food was average. I got a clam chowder to start. It was a little bit salty, but I liked it. For my entrée I got the chicken Parmesan. It was your average chicken parm with watery noodles and wet tomato sauce. The chicken to me was decent. My dad could cook a better chicken parm than they did. The food wasn't great, but the time we had to wait was outrageous. Service took so long! I had to wait 30 minutes for my soup. By that time most of our group had left and got a to-go box. Some stayed including me and had to wait another 30 minutes for the parm. We couldn't even get the bill until we asked really loudly. I don't know if it was that it was crowded or that the kitchen was backed up, but the time it took to get our food was unacceptable. Disappointed! Have had great pizza here for dinner, but just had the most disappointing lunch. Ordered their turkey sandwich with BLT and cheese. They were kind enough to substitute a brioche bun for their white toast. The sandwich looked great on the plate with fresh coleslaw, but tasted horrible. It was the turkey- they used a rubbery turkey loaf instead of real oven roasted turkey. The texture and flavor were awful and ruined the whole sandwich. Really low quality and simply gross. Wont be back for lunch anytime soon. It was not cheap either. They charged over $10 for a small piece of cake - you get twice as much cake at Cheesecake Factory. Hands down, the best local bar and grill in Raleigh. It's within walking distance from my house (so maybe I am a little biased-but I feel those who don't live close would agree) so it's very convenient for a bite to eat. I can honestly say I've never had anything bad from Manchester's. From their homemade soups to their salads to their burgers to their pizza - there's something for every taste bud! Not to mention the friendly management, bartenders, and servers who are ALWAYS on top of it make for a well-rounded dining experience. 3rd visit to Manchester Grill. I must say they're always busy for lunch and dinner. Stopped by for lunch, was quickly seated and given our menus which included the lunch specials. There was a wait due to having one waiter taking orders and bringing out food for the large section we were seated. The host/manager came by our area after a couple of tables flagged him down to take food orders. After our orders were placed the food came out quite quickly. I must say regardless of the crazy lunch rush the food came out fast and tasty. I ordered the 1/2 sandwich and salad from the lunch menu. I choose the chicken salad with a house salad, food was good. I like they change their lunch menu often. Second dish was the Parmesan sandwich with chips. We enjoyed our food like always. Due to the lack of staff in the front we had to wait again to flag down the only waiter to ask for our check. We were on a time crunch but nonetheless it was a great lunch. read more

The kitchen time is a bit slower than average, so when my buffalo chicken pizza came out drenched in so much bottled buffalo sauce I couldn't taste the cheese or chicken, I didn't swap it out because I didn't have the time to wait for something else. I did taste an undrenched portion of crust, which tasted like a paper-thin, plain matzoh cracker. My dad's quesadilla was surprisingly good. My wife's Reuben was not bad, but a bit dry. Looking around the restaurant on this Saturday afternoon, it's nearly full of loud, obnoxious 40 to 50-somethings drinking beer and shouting at each other--at 4:45pm. This place is probably ok if all you want is beer and bar food, but it's not worth a trip back in my opinion. read more

This place is a good local joint. They have a decent beer selection but by no means great. I've visited at least a dozen times and the bartender knows everyone and everyone knows him. The problem I have with this place, and the food is "good" is the menu was made by someone that has no idea how to price things appropriately. Here are a few examples. 6 wings are 5.99 (1$each), 10 wings are 8.99 (.90 each) makes sense so far. 15 wings are 13.99. ?!? (.93 each) mozzarella sticks are $7.99. Really, Eight Bucks for cheese stix? A Salmon and Poached Pear Salad is 12.99. If you get a Greek Salad ($8.99) and add grilled chicken ($4.99) it's 13.98? Hamburgers are 8.99? This is not a premium establishment. It's a good "Cheers" kind of place. (But not in Chicago). Overall, if they fixed their prices I think you'd get what you pay for. read more

Have always enjoyed an evening at the bar at Manchesters. We are "regulars", but not nightly/weekly....more like monthly. We missed them during the pandemic and went by last night and we were happy to be able to be seated and Shawn's service was great as always, but he sure was busting his butt. Were you down a server by chance? Food was good as always. Being served in to-go containers was kinda weird when drinks are served in glasses. Not sure I understand the psychology behind that. What disappointed us? We walked up to the bar and chairs were tipped which could not be used (HINT: just put them away), and there was a sign saying "This table cannot be used due to Covid" and they were placed every 2 chairs with space between. Perfect. We took 2 chairs, felt comfortable. Next thing you know...some weekly regulars show up, move the signs, shift the chairs...and bam he's sitting right next to my husband, and the MANAGER helped him do it. What? Right then and there we should have said....do you need us to move somewhere? It was impolite, rudely done, and just wrong. At the end of our meal...it happened again on the other side of the bar....weekly regulars came in, didn't like that they couldn't sit where they wanted, tossed the signs, shifted the seats and were almost sitting on top of another guy. Again, the MANAGER was good with it...he helped them sit. I get acknowledging your regulars, but Manchester's management, shame on you. Your REGULARS should be helping you...not taking advantage of you, breaking your rules you are trying to adhere to so your restaurant remains open, and helping you succeed. YOU should be looking out for ALL your patrons, not just them. Might be awhile before we come back. Very disappointing. read more

Going into this review, you should note that Manchester's holds a ton of sentimental value for me. I worked here in high school and college and even met my wife while working here. But, that only adds to the charm of what is *the* neighborhood bar of my days in Raleigh. Ownership has changed since the days of yore when I could be found happlessly wandering the dining room filling drinks or throwing pizzas in the oven at a furious pace. Under the new owners, Manchester's has become less pure bar and more of a restaurant and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I don't see as many of the old regulars along the right side of the bar, but a few still remain and the bar is still full when I've been on weekend evenings. The new owners have also added beer on tap which was corrects a major oversight that lasted far too long. The food at Manchester's has always been decent but it's become more consistent over the years. While the pizza here is a long way from a legit, coal oven fired, Brooklyn pie (hey, the South still dominates pulled pork barbeque but my adopted home here in Brooklyn crushes the pizza...it's just a fact), it's still solid. The buffalo tenders (formerly Texas Tenders) are my jam though. I can't help but stuff my face with deliciously fried chicken doused in buffalo sauce every time I go to Manchesters. Manchester's isn't necessarily going to blow you away with food, but it isn't shooting for that market segment. This is a straight neighborhood joint. The second time you go to Manchester's, you'll see at least a few faces that are familiar from your first trip. It's been over ten years since I lived in Raleigh but this is still the place I come when I go back to visit and I still see faces I remember from ten years ago. Came here for the first time last night with my husband. He got the Buffalo chicken pizza and I got the meatball sandwich. Both were really good! The only thing we didn't care for were the homemade chips. They were very bland and could use some seasoning. Our waitress was very friendly and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The atmosphere is comfortable and it is neither too large nor too small/cramped, so it doesn't lose that local feel. The staff is friendly, the portions are fairly large and the food is good. Fairly diverse menu provides a lot of different selections for ordering. Good beer battered onion rings, nachos, and other appetizers. Burgers are thick and with several different variations to choose from. Also, they have alternative sandwich options, like a very good philly cheese steak sandwich. The cooks load up the sandwich with "steak". Entrees such as pasta, steak, and fish are also available. Daily specials are listed on a chalk board on the right wall as you walk in. Not really a sports bar although they do have several TVs around the bar, there are only 2 in the dining area. If you want to watch a game you will probably need to sit at the bar. They have changed channels for me on a couple of occasions so I could see a game I was interested in. Now for the pizza: Like almost all Chicago stories start with.... "I know a guy", the same is true for me. I know a guy that grew up in Chicago and moved here after college. He says the pizza they serve here is just like what he grew up with. According to him, most of the local pizzerias in Chicago serve thin-crust pizza, although Chicago-style pizza most of the rest of the country commonly thinks of is deep-dish style of pizza. He calls the deep dish Chicago pizza "the stuff you get downtown and in da' malls". He comes to Manchester's to get his Chicago pizza, and says this is just like "da' stuff" that was around my house. So, I figure he must know, and that is good enough for me. The crust the Manchester's pizza is thin and crispy. Regardless of what you call it, the pizza is good. This place was such a pleasant little surprise. My friend moved out that way and the shopping center where Manchester's is located was nearby. The day I helped her move, we stopped in and had some of the best food I had eaten in a while. For me, I'm a sucker for a good, fried goat cheese salad, and their fried goat cheese salad with shrimp is fantastic! I also recommend the salmon & poached pear salad. The pears are ridiculously good! (like as in, you will be talking about it for days) Every time I go, there are families scattered about with kids during the day and people at the bar having HUGE burgers and watching sports. I'm sure the burgers are amazing, but I've just never been that hungry. They look delicious. It's a little off the beaten path, but seriously... do yourself a favor and drop by. Well, it was horrible and my daughter could not eat it. My meal was terrible too. I had the chicken philly which had so much gross fake velveeta on it that is was inedible. I ate chips for dinner. My husband had potato skins and they were pretty good and he had wings which were ok. The only one who really enjoyed her meal was my littlest who has a small cheese pizza.
