Ambiance: 4/5: We went for late dinner on a Saturday and the restaurant had a nice ambiance. I hear it's a good spot to grab apps and drinks. Service: 3/5: Even though the restaurant was pretty empty when we went, the service was a bit slow. Not sure if they were trying to give us space to chat. Food: 3/5: The rice pancakes were really tasty. Definitely recommend. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and it was ok. I feel like it needed more flavor. Overall an ok experience. Will give it another shot sometime.

Good place to grab a meal before the movies, but not my favorite Thai place out there. Service was very good as were the mini rice pancakes. However ,the pad Thai left more to be desired. I did appreciate that it wasn't soaked in sauce, but it was missing some flavor on its own. Some chili oil helped liven it up. Go here for.... appetizers and a drink, especially when it's nice out and they open the large windows, exposing the bar to the outside!

Service was great, albeit it being a slow night. The gentleman who served us had a great spirit and was happy to provide us service. The mini pancakes were awesome! Such a wide variety of flavors and textures in one bite: Turmeric rice batter, ground pork, shrimp, mung-bean, coconut cream, house special sauce. Pad Thai was just okay. Big portions and the right amount of sauce. Lacked flavor and needed to request lime and spice on the side. Pro Tip: Right next to Tiny Pies and Lick (if you're interested in a post meal treat, that's not on Mandala's menu, or in addition to a Mandala treat).

Went here very late on a Tuesday night. It was a cozy, hole in the wall type of spot with decent music. The service was great and had a good menu. The portions are so big and have a great flavor. This was enough for 2 dinners! I have had deeper seasoning/flavor at other Thai food restaurants which is why I'm not giving it a full 5 stars

Used to be one of my favorite places for Thai food in the South Austin area - especially their red curry - but it's a drastically different experience now. The curries were not as flavorful and the noodles were floating on a plate of soy sauce. I don't know if ownership changed, maybe the chef did, or inflation has forced them to cut back on ingredients. But I am sad to say I was disappointed last week.

Cute restaurant, nicely decorated and friendly staff. The lemongrass chicken vermicelli was tasty although slightly higher priced with smaller portion compared to other Thai/vietnamese restaurants. The menu is quite limited with even fewer vegetarian food options. Pro tip: Parking is behind the restaurant in the garage next to Alamo.

Located on S. Lamar, Mandala Kitchen and Bar is a great place for your this food fix! My husband and I came on a Saturday afternoon, around 5pm, and were seated immediately. There were a few larger parties at the restaurant as well. Service was quick and cordial. We ordered the pad Thai and the red curry with chicken. The chicken was over cooked and dry in my opinion. The flavors of the pad Thai and red curry was OUT OF THIS WORLD good. The red curry also has a bit of a kick. Absolutely delicious! Overall, I would dine here again, but maybe with tofu or shrimp as my protein!

I'm not sure if the reviews are from dine-in only or just paid actors... but I ordered from Mandala to-go... and it was the worst, if not, most mediocre, subpar thai food I have ever had in my life. And I consume thai food almost every week. There was absolutely no flavor and after a while it felt like I was just eating globs of nothing. I don't know, the reviews tricked me - do with that what you will.

Great vegan options! Things are clearly labeled if they can be made vegan, I had the Thai fried rice made vegan with tofu! My boyfriend isn't vegan and got the Cajun fried rice, and he says it was so good! Drinks are also very tasty and cute! Service was good, we went on a weeknight and there weren't many people inside. We ate on the patio and it was the perfect spot!

My bf's family took me here and this place was amazing! The inside is so pretty, a perfect place to go for a casual bite or dress up and eat! There's also a bar. I didn't get many photos because I was too busy devouring the yummy foods, but I will note that I can definitely spend the whole day eating the mini rice pancakes! The mango sticky rice was of course, amazing as well! The chicken wings were delicious! I got pad thai (not pictured) and it did not disappoint, so so so yummy!!! Definitely will go back when I have time! :)

Quiet when you go at the end of the night but quick service, full bar! The food was very flavorful and arrived quickly to our table - definitely great for late night munchies and great portion sizes!! We also enjoyed the Vietnamese coffee liquors which were sweeter and stronger than normal coffee liquors (best of both worlds!)

After landing in San Antonio yesterday to kick off my summer vacation, the very first thing I did…read moretoday was ask my friend to bring me back to this restaurant. The reason is simple: we ate here two years ago, and it left such a great impression on us that we had been looking forward to coming back ever since. Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of either the quality or the overall presentation of the food. Everything is still delicious, especially the Pho Combo. To be honest, it's far better than most of the pho we've had in Germany. That doesn't mean the pho in Germany is bad--it simply means this place matches my personal taste much better. As for the downsides, they're almost exactly the same as before. Parking is still a major challenge, and I understand that's probably not something the restaurant can easily fix. We also tried calling ahead to reserve a table, but they don't take reservations, whether you're coming with a group of 5-7 people or just 2-3 people. We arrived at 6:45 PM and still had to wait about 40 minutes before being seated, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Coincidentally, there was live music tonight, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the sound system wasn't very good, so it was difficult to hear what the singers were performing. Then again, this isn't really the type of venue where people come specifically to enjoy live music, so most diners didn't seem to pay much attention to it. One thing I did notice was that either the kitchen has made a few changes over the past two years, or perhaps my own taste has changed a little. The food felt slightly saltier than I remembered, and the pho broth was richer and creamier. While that added some depth of flavor, it was a bit too rich for my liking, to the point where finishing the entire bowl of broth felt a little overwhelming. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender--so tender that a knife was almost unnecessary, and they could easily be pulled apart with just a fork. While many people would probably see that as a positive, I actually missed the slightly firmer, meatier texture I remembered from my last visit. That said, these are relatively minor issues. The quality may have dipped just a little compared to our previous visit, but this is still an excellent restaurant. If they can fine-tune those small details, it would easily return to being one of my favorite places. There's a good chance we'll stop by one more time before heading back to Germany.

Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely…read more After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire time I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. If anyone can do it, 1618 can.

The restaurant itself has a lot of indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a bar. It seems like a nice place to have a meal. Pad see ew with chicken - I liked their version and would probably get it again. Pad woon sen with pork - typically my favorite noodle dish and I think they did a good job. Garden roll - good but not as packed as others I've had, and at a higher price point. Pineapple fried rice with pork - I liked this but was a bit on the oily side. Tom kha soup - I thought this was very good and had a decent amount of chicken and mushrooms Overall I liked everything but some items I felt I had better versions of elsewhere. It's also on the pricier side. Still, if in central Austin I think it's a solid choice for Thai food.

There were so many new dishes that caught my eye, but I immediately gravitated toward the Creamy Crab Curry and it was absolutely the right choice. The curry was rich, creamy and packed with flavor while the fried soft-shell crab was perfectly cooked and added a great texture to the dish. Honestly, it's the kind of meal I could see myself ordering every week. My partner went with the Lost Recipe, which looked just as delicious. You can never really go wrong with fried chicken, and this version certainly didn't disappoint. The service was equally impressive. Our server was friendly, attentive and checked in regularly throughout the meal. She even brought us a complimentary crab pastry to try, which was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. One thing to note this place gets busy, especially during lunch so plan accordingly. That said, the food and service are well worth it and the menu is reasonably priced. Kiin Di has successfully made the jump from food truck to full-service restaurant and it's definitely earned a spot on my regular rotation.
