We were a little skeptical the first time I came because of the lack of cars but decided to take a chance. My SIL and i loved it and the picky kids we have were even more delighted. Mandala is amazing. My husband and I used to go here all the time when we lived in Ojai. We've tried several of their different menu items and not been disappointed with any of them, but we mainly went there for the sushi. Ojai Valley has several good sushi places but this was our personal favorite. My husband loved the firefighter roll (he likes spicy) and my favorite was the red dragon roll. On top of the menu being both delicious and diverse, the staff are always great, very friendly and have even offered us samples of appetizers a couple times. Really nice people. Mandala has amazing food and you absolutely should try it if you are in/near the Ojai area. I really miss it. read more

I'd sure the people here are nice and sincere, but the service was very poor, with delays and mixed up orders. We had two active little ones, so the wait was not fun. I would have to say that the food is only ok. Not particularly flavorful and over-priced. We used the Axxes card and the owner would not honor the deal listed in the app (which was a 2-for-1 up to $10.00). He said he hadn't honored that for years. Then why is it still there! He did give us a 10% discount, but that was less. All in all a disappointing experience. read more

We just live near the Mandala Restaurant and been reading their good reviews so we have been planning to try this restaurant. And finally; today we ordered the lunch menu which is Chicken Curry (that came with rice, salad and soup) andSexy Crunch Roll and their wonderful Lemon Ginger Tea. Everything tastes so good, not loaded of salt, that we want to go back and try more of their other items in the menu. Prices are reasonable. Found this place on yelp after getting hungry on the drive to Ojai and was excited to try it! This place is really cute with a very chill and calm vibe that really gets you into the laid back mood of Ojai and nature. There is plenty of parking right outside their restaurant that is free. It's decorated in cultural images and flags. The food is pretty tasty. I was hoping to try their buffet option but it wasn't available when we went. They had a bento option which was very cool. A watered down, overly spicy version of what Indian and Tibetan food should be. No flavor, but overly hot. Utterly tasteless. The curries are just spicy and salty but without the flavor and richness and fattiness of authentic Indian food. It feels like Indian food for people on a low fat diet, and they try to hide the lack of flavor and richness with salt and fire. It's like the asian version of Indian food perhaps? Why is everything so watery? Where are the fats? The vegetables are dead tasting as well, like poor quality previously frozen stuff you would buy on a budget. No clue how this place can have good reviews.....I assume it is because no one has ever had really good Indian or really good Thai food. read more

This place was pretty awful. The food was overpriced and tasteless. The patio was dirty and the umbrellas were broken and precariously flopping around in the wind. Eating here is a beautiful experience. You can feel the serenity from the moment you walk in, if you even choose to walk in. With such an expensive comfortable patio you may be happier outside by the fire pit. Service is impeccable and the Tibetan food selection you won't find anywhere combined with Sushi. It's unique and delicious. We ordered beef Momo soup and the fish curry and both were top notch. The owner will make the rounds to make sure you're enjoying every bite. What I really appreciate about this place is their willingness and even eagerness to customize to your specifications. Too many restaurants are too fussy about their food, not the case here. Accidentally stumbled upon this place while waiting to drop off my kid at camp. Salmon teriyaki was excellent! Not drowned in sauce, but seasoned very well. My 17yo cleaned the plate including the vegetables. It was a large piece of salmon too!! About 2-3x the size from other restaurants. I had the Mandala sushi--also excellent! We had a light lunch of vegetable curry with tofu and side salad, all of which was incredible. You can tell they use fresh ingredients and are skilled at the items on their menu. The best part of the meal was the gracious people who work there-everyone we met was so friendly and kind and we thoroughly enjoyed the conversations we had with the owners. Very poor service and their food totally tasteless. Their naan is not fresh but store bought like the one from Smart & Final. They served it, Heated and dry-out. Like having a bread chip. The Indian Chai very weak it need flavor. Our chicken tika masala was very watery with potatoes under cook. I had to go a look for our server, she was sitting with a client talking. Went here with my parents for lunch while vacationing in Ojai, and we loved it. The service is fantastic, and the food is incredible. Ppl of Ventura and Ojai where are ur tastebuds? This was astoundingly painfully bland. The sushi roll was passable, but the sashimi served with my lunch special was chewy and fishy. Yuck. This was our first visit to Mandala and we were wonderfully surprised. The combination of Tibetan, Indian and Japanese cuisine sounded a bit unusual - but this place definitely pulls it off. The decor is nice, the Dali Lama looks out on the dining room, there is an outdoor patio but it is right on the Avenue, and seemed a bit noisy. There is a sushi bar in the corner. The restaurant is owned by a couple, the husband making sushi, and the wife waiting tables and supervising the kitchen. Cab service was prompt and friendly. The veggie moma's and mushroom cakes were delicious. We had a Poki bowl and the Eggplant String Beans - Both fresh and tasty. Even had a quite nice bottle of wine, unusual for a sushi restaurant.What a treat to know this little gem is right up the road in Ojai. read more

Theirs was a very different experience from almost all reviewers who had nothing but positive things to say about the service, atmosphere, and food. I am with those who had great experiences. Mine is not a one-off experience. I've been there several times and every dish has been delicious and perfectly prepared, service has always been friendly, warm, and patient, and prices more than reasonable. This is a great place for anyone driving to the area for a visit or who lives in Oak View or Ojai to experience delicious Tibetan food, excellent chicken masala, samosas, and great chowmein options, and sushi combinations. Had dinner at this place and all I can say is this place is no good. The only positive thing about this place was the lady staff member that sat us down, had a positive personality, turned on the dining lights, turned on the AC and gave us our ice waters. Then from then on it took a downward spiral quick. Our food did not taste good at all, experience was just bad. When I went up to pay the bill, the cashier asked how was everything, well I told him that the chicken in my dish had hard pieces ( cartilage/bone) still inside. He didn't seem to care and just said he will inform the cook. No effort in correcting or making my experience better by adjusting the bill/etc. I don't recommend this place at all, look elsewhere. read more

Best restaurant in Ojai - it's rustic and casual but the sushi is world class and the owners lovely. You sit on a deck and can choose from sushi, Indian and Tibetan cuisine.
