I tried Mandarin Buffet for the first time this summer after a big workout. My friend recommended it and so I decided to go with. Dinner is a little over $30 per person. I later learned that it is owned by the same owners as Haiku (which closed up permanently in Redmond) and Feast in Tacoma. Feast and Mandarin Buffet serve basically the same food, but feast is about $10 cheaper because of where it's located. Mandarin Buffet has a huge sushi selection. It's obviously not great quality, but much better than I thought it would be. The fish is pre-frozen and you can definitely tell. They also have a Mongolian grill bar where they will cook noodles, meat, vegetables, etc. right in front of you, on order. Other foods they had included: Kung pao pork, green beans, steamed fish, sausage, sticky rice cakes (sweet and savory kind), soup, assorted seafood, choy, rice, and noodles. The best item by far was the braised beef- the one you have to cut with a giant knife at the serving station. The beef is moist, fork tender, and just melts in your mouth. So good! Desserts were meh. Ice cream is the stuff you get at like a school cafeteria- "frozen dessert" inside pre packaged styrofoam cups. The cakes and cookies were also not good and I never trust the chocolate fountain at buffets due to hygienic reasons. Speaking of hygiene, they provide optional, self-serve, disposable plastic gloves next to the serving stations which I thought was nice. Bathrooms were clean too. It was crowded on a weekend evening and somewhat loud. Lots of families and kids were running around, scrambling from one station to another so beware of your surroundings. Since it's a self-serve buffet, there's no server interaction other than when you pay at the register and when they come by to pick up your plates, which they were fairly prompt to do. Located in Bellevue. It is an ALL YOU CAN EAT. Here's my thoughts about it. Food: Variety of sushi, Asian, and American food. Knocking off a star because the snow crab was cold and not very tasty. Every time I cracked the crab, there was water coming out more than there was crab. They did have fruits, a couple of desserts, and pudding. They do have a chocolate fountain, which is my favorite. They do have ice cream cups (strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate). Service: You pay before you eat! Waitress did refill our drinks frequently and collected our empty plates in a timely manner. Great value buffet. $25 including tip (service charge) for a weekday lunch and you get to eat your fill of moderately cheap Asian food. Sushi selection isn't horrible and the Mongolian grill has a solid selection too albeit they forgo the egg. Service is no frills and the atmosphere doesn't contribute or detract from the experience. I was immediately impressed with the customer service here. We can checked in and seated so quickly even at their busiest hour on a Saturday. The staff were constantly restocking, cooking, cleaning and our waters were never left empty. None of the utilizes, trays or condiments were left empty. TL;DR: pretty good all you can eat buffet place. Come here to get stuffed and a food coma! Honestly, the food isn't really high quality but it's a buffet. The sushi was generally pretty good and I loved the diversity they had in the choices. They had basically all the items people would want from a sushi buffet. I do think the hot food items could probably be better. Lots of the food wasn't much more more flavorful than salt and oil. The grill was also pretty alright but again the food was really oily. One wish is that they prepared the sashimi a bit more elegantly. Sure it's all the same once you eat it but having pretty slices of salmon just makes it all that much better! I recently tried this place as it have vegan/ vegetarian options. I am not happy with the taste of food served. Yes it have huge spread of food but hardly 6-7 vegetarian entree and that too significantly low on taste. Firstly the waiter and severs doesn't actually understand your requirements. Secondly they have option where you can choose your noodles and vegetables and chef will cook in sauce you want. I liked that concept but I asked him to cook on separate pan and tongs which he didn't to it all , not sure they understand a vegetarian thoughts , when restaurant is asking everyone to wear gloves before touching serving spoon why can they cook on different pan for vegetarian ? It's way expensive for $20+ taxes on weekday for both non veg and veg food. For 5-6 veg dishes 20$ buffet is expensive they have same cost for veg and non veg which doesn't make sense . Very good service as in filled water and cleared plates, but the food itself is meh. We went when it just opened so the food was kind of fresh, but we rarely see any restocking despite some of the food is gone and most of the food quality is kinda low. You can tell the clams were bad quality, string beans, etc. The corners by that U shape to get all the good food is mad crowded - such a bad design when they have so much space. Overall not much varieties compared to feast and the fruit section never gets filled and very limited on dessert/fruits/ice cream. The food were meh. If not the service this would be a 2 star. 2.5 stars I guess. Only reason we came is because we lived nearby and I never been. I have been to Feast many times. Went there on an a Sunday with four other coworkers. I think we got there around 11am almost 12pm. The host was so nice and quick, he thanked all of us for our service because we told him we were active military and gave us a discount. We were sitter quick, didn't have to wait for a table. It was my first time there and I loved it, the food was great and there was always a server that was checking on us for drinks or taking our empty plates away. It got busy towards the early afternoon, around 1pm. I noticed a lot of people were already waiting to be seated. I was glad we went the time we did. I was a big fan of Mandarin Buffet before covid, but it's hard to recommend in its current state. I was there at about noon on a Friday. The food has always been barely lukewarm, and it still is. It would be greatly improved just by being warmer. A lot of the items, including the sushi, tasted "off" and unpleasant. The siu mai was so awful that I actually spit it out. The crispy salmon skin was hard as a rock. The potstickers were burnt and stale in places, although the texture of the wrapper and the flavor were good. The chow mein noodles were still tasty, even though they were cold. The cheesy crab was the only thing that was warm, but it had a lot more onion than it used to. The pizza looked so bad that I didn't even try it. Even the sponge cake was old and dried out. I miss the soft serve. They did have a good truffle brownie and donut, though. Pro's: Good food, nice selection of items, clean dining area, and attentive servers. Will return again. Con's: The restroom lighting is controlled by an unprotected standard light switch. I brought my four year old son to use the restroom in the middle of dinner. Anyone that has a freshly potty trained child understands they can't wait. One of the stalls in the restroom was occupied by a fellow patron. My son and I entered the adjacent stall to handle business. Upon exiting the restroom with my son in tow, I hear the remaining occupant scream profanities. I turned around quickly to find that my son had flipped the light switch off upon exiting which caused the entire bathroom to go pitch black. My bad. Very subpar. Even for a buffet place. Not as yucky as the ones in he Everett area, and definitely better atmosphere. But the food was still overwhelmingly "meh" and several dishes were cold, tasted old or had no taste at all. I was excited to try the noodle options, as I am a middle connoisseur... but they had no flavor and just left an oily residue in your mouth. Wah wah. Best part was the ice cream and fresh fruit. Big contrast between Christmas 2016 and Christmas 2018 for a large family gathering (party of 10) in Redmond. I should have heeded fellow Yelpers Courtney and Willy who write frequent spot on reviews. Downgraded from a generous 4 star from two years ago, to this afternoon's reality = 2 stars. Analogous to the housing and stock market readjustng. Pros: Open on a major holiday, free parking, variety of items to select from, and others who does the actual cooking and cleanup. Giant holiday bear at the entrance. Ice cream was decent. Cons: Uninterested person at the host stand. The folks who kindly refilled our water glasses and cleared plates at least looked remotely dialed into the concept of customer service. Questionable seafood, sushi, and produce items. Rubbery dessert items. No pots of tea. Heat lamp and steam table items that were not to temp and greasy. Protein items sometimes were unidentifiable. Family gathering for Christmas Day where I was outnumbered, but Mandarin Buffet and Grill allowed us to convene in Redmond from Bellevue, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Shoreline. Better to just have head to Seattle's International District instead. For our portion of the bill, it was $25 per person. Quality wise for what was spent, could have done much better elsewhere. And minus the now rumbling stomach and discomfort! I remembered a much better overall experience two years ago. Poorest Customer Service Yesterday, we had a birthday treat for my wife and all our guests enjoyed the food. It was excellent and looks very fresh for a Chinese buffet. But I experienced a nightmare at the worst! I reserve for 17 pax and when we arrive I had extra guests for 3 more making us 20 pax. So I said, can we add them to the table? They did not agree but said we could use another table beside it. I said okay. So our guests arrive in different times and some were already eating when I arrived. Then, the other table we used was a little bigger because other waiter agreed to have it used. Then, we were all eating then came the supervisor asking us to move and not use that other table. I strongly objected and we have an argument infront of everyone else. Loud voices ensued. I said the other waiter allowed it. But still he insisted we moved. It's an Asian buffet. 3 stars is "A-OK," and I have a hard time giving ANY buffet more than 3 stars. But this is a good buffet. First, kudos to this business for lasting so long in this location. This location used to be a revolving door, so any business that can last here must be doing something right. It's a big space with tons of seating and tons of food. Most of the food is okay. One or two dishes are actually really good. Most are just passable/okay. A few I avoid (fish on a buffet anyone?). There's also a big appetizer/salad section and a large dessert section. This place is so good! We started coming here after Haiku Buffet management in Redmond merged with Mandarin. And we are so thrilled it is the similar cleanliness and even higher variety on the food! They have calamari to die for, fresh high quality salads and a whole range of sushi, Chinese, American and Mongolian grill. We came during Easter and it was surprisingly not busy, and good fare price ~$28 in Bellevue. The downside I remembered is that the crab was very salty and they didn't give our drinks when we first came in which is strange. Came with two friends on a weekday because we couldn't agree on where to eat but were good with something asian. Paid first fir three, and it wasn't cheap, just about $75, including tax and gratuity. Food was okay. Mostly consisted of normal Chinese buffet food, but I think the star of the show was the sushi, as fresh stuff was being made the whole time. The dimsum was subpar, with no Shumai or hargow. Typical stuff like fried rice, sweet and sour pork, broccoli beef, and kung pao chicken was just meh. No standouts there. There were some nice stir-fried green beans that were pretty fresh. The desserts were pretty limited with cakes cut in tiny, bite-sized pieces and fruit that wasn't very ripe. Proceed with caution. I read a few reviews from other Yelpers who noted that they became ill after eating here, so when I learned this would be the venue for an extended family gathering, I was concerned. I avoided the cold foods (sushi, salads and dessert, etc.) and stuck to the hot items as a type of preventative measure. Unfortunately that wasn't enough....the food left my taste buds satisfied enough, but my stomach sad. This was the case with at least one other in our party as well. No major food poisoning, but still - we didn't feel well afterwards and came down with stomachaches. I actually noticed that the "hot" food wasn't always kept hot enough. Whenever I returned back to my table after a quick trip to the buffet, most food on my plate had cooled completely. Out of the items that I tried, I found the honey walnut shrimp, veggie chow mein, garlic green beans and chicken wings to be highlights. The roasted duck (when I could find meaty pieces), was alright but tasted a bit bland and was on the drier end. Surprisingly, they have amazing french fries with delicious seasoning! There's also a "Mongolian Grill" station where they'll prepare you a fresh plate of noodles. Since there aren't a ton of veggie options in the buffet itself, you could always have them stir-fry a fresh serving of veggies for you here. When we arrived, there happened to be another family having a party at the same time as us. We were originally told that we could set-up in their back room. Once some of us were situated, the staff realized they had confused us with the other party and moved us out to a different section of the restaurant. Definitely a miss in terms of organization, but once everything was settled, the waitstaff was attentive and friendly overall. I'd be extremely hesitant to return again. If I go to a buffet, I don't want to feel a need to restrict myself from eating certain food items out of fear that I will get sick based on others' (and now my own) experience. I went here with my family last Sunday and we paid US$19.99 per person. This place got huge variety and it's a perfect place if you like seafood, Chinese and Japanese food. My favourite part was crabs, shrimps and oysters they were SO good! (MB also have crayfish, scallops as well)! Plus they grill meat /seafood right in front of you! Sushi tasted cheap, however I liked eating Salmon and Tuna Sashimi since I'm Sashimi lover! The food here is oily in general, but it didn't tasted salty. Chocolate fondue was great, MMM YUMMY! Fried chicken was so delish, but I was full to have another piece. Icecream machine was out of order that day and maybe they fixed it now? I visited recently after 2 years since they were closed for reconstruction. Quality has gone down after covid. Limited menu. No item except beef and dumplings was close to warm.
