I ordered the hojicha latte and it had a decently strong hojicha flavor but it was grainy. My friends ordered the matcha latte and matcha tonic and both were pretty good! I can see how the lattes can taste like pure milk with a splash of matcha powder since the powder settles a bit if you're not mixing it but overall it's not bad! Wouldn't say it's the best though. Costs around $7/$8 per drink so a bit on the pricier end. Service was excellent, I received my order within a couple minutes of ordering. There was a long line when I was there on a Sunday afternoon. There is some seating outside the store but no seating or area to drink inside. Only 4 people are allowed in the store at a time since they usually have long lines. Parking is available in the back with other shared businesses. Don't think I'd come back though but worth a try!
This could be one of SoCals Finest Coffee Shops and I dont use that term lightly. Tucked in a covered, attractive "arcade", the only sign that says you have arrived is a small Postcard sized sign that says "Mandarin." The shop is small, take out only but there is covered seating just outside underneath a sunroof. A small sign says since the shop is small, only four folks allowed in the store at once. Once you order, good idea just to wait the short while until your order is up. There is a rope outside in case there is a line outside, and there usually is, since this is a gem of a place. Hours are 8 to 3pm Their mixologist produces creative, but flavorful drinks, without being over bearing, or silly or sweet. Small batched coffee from Guatemala and other parts around the world.. along with tea. All high quality and Ive tried both their whole bean coffee and Chai. The usual suspects of Pastries are in a clear case as you order in case you want something to go with your coffee tea. I always stick to the Matcha Tonic. Ive only seen one other shop elsewhere do this drink but not as great as Mandarin. Definitely make it a must next time you are cruising Lake or near Pasadena
I always take my friends and family here when they're visiting: 1. Because it's so close to Caltech 2. Because it's the best quality coffee and matcha in Pasadena Mandarin is a little coffee shop on Lake Ave in a cute decorated alleyway. There is always a line out the shop past 10:30 ish AM until closing in the early afternoon, but it's worth and honestly the line goes by fast. Their Vienna latte has my absolute favorite cream top. Their cream top is so good that I used to get it on top of my matcha (also fantastic!), but they actually stopped allowing the up charge for you to add their cream to the matcha. Their pastries are brought in every morning from another bakery, but I'm in love with their everything and pretzel croissants.
Trying new shop besides the common one. The shop run by Asian and also near by shop. Interesting since I am not near Asian area but what a gem. We tried their favorite ones and I love specially the Vienna Latte. So yummy. Tried them and let me know how you like them and don't let the line scared you, it moved pretty quickly so no worries. The shop located in a cute alley kinda way. See pictures
We have come here a few times with our husky while walking near CalTech. It is cute with the colored paint on the windows and the Chinese coffee shop vibe inside. The Burlington Arcade (like a breezeway) that the cafe is located in is photogenic, too. On our most recent visit, we had one osmanthus latte and one Vienna latte. They were well made with a subtle, mild flavor. We also had two pastries: a white miso kouign amagn and a savory croissant. These were also good, and the service was fine. In the end, everything was okay but nothing really makes us want to come back - especially with long lines and very limited seating. Still, if you are in the area and haven't tried it, I think it is worth visiting for yourself.
Let me save you money... this place is not worth the hype you see on social media. I'm sorry but it's really not! I think if you're going just for the aesthetic aspect of it, then sure absolutely but if you're looking for your new regular coffee shop? Absolutely not. It's just mediocre. I ordered the matcha latte and an almond strawberry croissant and truly both just tasted like a regular every day item you could find anywhere. I was disappointed to be honest, since social media has hyped it up so much. I don't know if they warm up the pastries if you were to ask, but I was disappointed that they didn't ask if I wanted it warm. I think the croissant could have tasted better if it had been warm. The place is cute, but I truly don't think it's worth the price or the wait. The customer service was fine, they don't want the hallway getting crowded so they do ask you to wait which is partly why the line is long. The place is super small so it does get cramped inside while waiting for your drinks but they are fast which I was thankful for. All in all, it's a cute place but not worth the money.
I wanted to love this place, I saw some reviews online raving about the matcha. Due to the small space, everyone waits outside until it's their time to order. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but in winter with some wind, that area functions like a wind tunnel and was freezing. The service was also quite slow, I appreciate the attention to detail, but when there's a long line outside it can be frustrating. I ordered the Matcha Latte and my friend ordered the chai latte. I like that non-dairy milk did not cost extra! I find their pricing to be very fair compared to other coffee shops around. The matcha latte was just okay, the matcha tasted dull. However, it was one of the prettiest matcha lattes I've had! My friend's chai latte was incredibly strong/spiced to the point she couldn't finish it as it was so concentrated at the bottom of the cup. I also got a pretzel croissant. Unfortunately their toaster oven caught fire according to the cashier so it was cold. Even cold, this was the highlight! The flakey croissant dough with a pretzel crust and salt was amazing. I'm not sure if I'd come back, I'd love to try the hojicha latte, but I don't think I would want to wait in that line again.
I went for the very first time on a Sunday morning. I got in line around 11, and the wait was about 15-20 minutes. Once I ordered though, they were super fast--my drink came out in under a minute or two. I ordered the Vienna coffee mainly because of the foam (that was the whole reason I wanted it ). I asked if it was sweet--the barista said the foam would be, but overall the drink itself wasn't very sweet. Personally, the coffee wasn't my favorite. I wouldn't go back for the Vienna specifically, but I might try something else because I am a foam person, and I feel like another drink might hit better. Now..the spinach and cheese croissant? That was the star of the show. So good. I wish it had been warmed up a bit more, but honestly the café is super tiny very much a grab-and-go vibe. You walk in, order, leave. There are a few tables outside, but it's definitely more of an aesthetic "come and go" spot than a sit-down café.
The Burlington Arcade is so gorgeous and mandarin coffee stand fits right in! While the storefront only allows 4 customers at a time, waiting outside doesn't feel bothersome because you're in such a beautiful space. While they do have citrusy flavors on their menu, much of their focus is on serving Chinese coffee among classics. I got the gui hua latte (which only comes hot) and it really grew on me, with the complex flavor combination of coffee, slight spice, and florality. Their Vienna latte was smooth and rich while their honey yuzu fizz was bright and refreshing. There are a couple of tables in the walkway, but I wouldn't count on doing work here or staying for a long period of time. Parking is pretty easy in the lot, though!
3.5 stars. Confused... I've heard soo soo soo much about this place. Even people from OC were telling me how much they loved it. I finally decided to go after my Saturday morning workout. There was a line but I get why because the place is so tiny only group is allowed in at a time. I did like that your drink is made a min after it's ordered so there's virtually no wait. The menu itself is super small only a few latte and matcha options, I got the Vienna latte. I thought it was good but nothing worth the hype and the line. I think there were 5 other coffee shops I would've rather gone to over this one. It pretty much tasted like the coffee I made at home the day before. Maybe it needed more sugar? Or flavor or something? I'm not sure something was lacking tho
After trying the coffee, this spot feels a little overhyped. The coffee was a little watered down. However my friends enjoyed it so it's probably just a hit or miss for different people. The service is amazing though! Overall ambiance and vibes of the shop and area is cute so I definitely recommend still stopping by for a visit. read more

*Coffee Fix Adventures continue* Finally had the chance to come to Mandarin on Sunday. There was a line around 10:30am, which took us about 30 minutes total to get in, order, and get our drinks+pastry. I always ask if places have sugar-free syrup substitutes, and sadly Mandarin does not...they only had Stevia & Sweet'n Low. I think most of their lattes and signature drinks already come pre-sweetened... Hubby ordered their "Toasty" signature latte. Strong Rooibos flavor mixed with the espresso was unique & I liked it. However, their "Toasty" was noticeably smaller than the regular iced Latte that I ordered w/ Almond Milk. I didn't feel that their Latte was bad, but also didn't really like their espresso flavor as much as other coffee places I've been to. Just personal preference, I guess...When I consider the wait, I'm not sure it merits another visit to Mandarin. They ran out of the Kimchi Spam Musubi Croissant before 11AM, which was a bummer. We just got the Ham & Cheese Croissant, which was standard. Cute little alley on Lake Ave. & Mandarin is tucked in the back near the parking lot. read more

Came here with my best friend on a Saturday late morning on July 4th weekend around 11:30am. The coffee stand is located in the Burlington Arcade. I initially came here because I wanted to try it and because I wanted to get it stamped on my Pasadena Coffee Passport. There's plenty of free parking in the back. And meter street parking in the front, if you can find any. There was a line when I arrived and I waited about 30 mins. I got the following: - SIGNATURE- "Toasty" Iced - Cinnamon Roll I'm a big cinnamon girly so the two combined was heaven for me. I really enjoyed both. The coffee was very subtle and delicious. The cinnamon roll was so tasty, so small but packed with flavor. I can understand why there's a line. Will definitely come back but maybe earlier next time. The place is super small but super cutesy. And the staff is super sweet. read more

I had heard many things about this place so I thought I would try. The line was long but moved pretty fast. They have a pretty small capacity inside the actual cafe so it explains the long line. I ordered their seasonal Mandarin Mocha and the Capuccino. The Mandarin Mocha was a perfect mix of rich citrus and chocolate. There was even small pieces of pulp or mandarin pieces in the drink which I wasn't expecting but really enjoyed. I also got the Curry Puff and an Apple Caramel Danish which were both filling and a pretty good size. I will definitely be back here. read more
I got their iced Vienna latte and it was amazing. I asked for it to be 25% sweet and decafe, they made it happen, with smiles :) There was a line of people but didn't wait long, it went by quick. Service was great, parking is easy and price is on the decent side. Would definitely come back. read more

It's one of those places where you have wait in line for a bit before you can get your drink. I fortunately got lucky and had to wait only about 5-10 minutes, but as soon as I walked out of there, I saw the line get a lot longer, which means the line must've been about a 30 minute wait from the end on a weekend. I ordered the iced matcha latte for my coworker, and an iced vienna latte for myself. They also had some delicious looking pastries, so I ordered two of those as well. The drinks are good, but would I wait 30 minutes for coffee? I don't think so. However, next time I'm in this area and I see little to no wait, I'll be swooping by here. read more
Tip: Go on a weekday. Located inside the Burlington Arcade, the Mandarin coffee stand location is as cute as it can be. I've gone there a few times and tried both their vienna and hojicha latte. Both did not disappoint! Because the size of the coffee shop, they allow 4 customers inside the cafe at a time to avoid overcrowding. If you are impatient like me and hate lines, try to go there on a weekday. Usually the line moves quickly and I can get my hands on the drinks within 15 minutes, tops. read more

I have now been twice and all four drinks I've tried out have been absolutely phenomenal! Each latte from Mandarin really stands out from your standard coffee shop latte while still being able to maintain decent coffee. Really enjoyed the Gui Hua Latte specifically and I look forward to going back and continuing to explore their menu! read more
This place is def worth checking out when in Pasadena! Located in a really cute alley with an amazing ambiance that makes you feel like you're in France. The inside only has a 4 guest policy since it's really small and the line can very quickly get long. We got the vienna latte which was a really great latte! it's the most recommended and their signature for a reason. the cream is super indulgent with the bold espresso! We also tried the matcha latte and it was great latte with quarter sweetness! I don't prefer my matcha on the sweeter side and really liked the quality of it overall. Kinda bummy that you're not allowed to add a cream top to it even if you're willing to pay extra for it. Overall, it's a good find! luckily it wasn't super busy around the time we went and had an overall great experience. There's no indoor seating, but rather a shared common space in the alley with a few tables. read more
Finally trying mandarin after walking by 100s of times. At 8:30am on a Saturday there was about a 10 minute line. The shop is small with just a few staff but they work pretty quickly. I ordered: Vienna latte: 10/10 So yummy! The foam on top was delicious Kimchi + Spam Croissant: 8/10 It was good, but would have been better if they could have warmed it up. They had so many delicious looking options in their case, I would definitely try something different next time. They only have a few tables in the alley but it was easy to grab one as most people were taking their order to go. This place is really cute with the ambiance of the alley way. My friend & I saw a line outside so we decided to try it. I've also seen videos of it on social media. We tried the iced matcha latte & iced hojicha latte. We both got half sugar but the sweetness in the matcha tasted noticeable different compared to the hojicha, like it had no sweetness. I liked how the hojicha had a nutty & milky flavor though & service was pretty quick. Worth trying though! read more

I had a great experience! The staff was incredibly friendly, which made a big difference since it was my first time and I wasn't sure what to order. Gabriel was especially helpful--he was informative, welcoming, and guided me to try "The Toasty." WOW!!! It was absolutely delicious, with the perfect blend of flavors it was honestly one of the best iced coffees I've ever had. I'll definitely be coming back! read more
Was very excited to try this spot given the hype, though it didn't live up for me personally. As it is a very small shop, there is often a long line. On weekends, it looks as long as 40+ mins sometimes. I waited about 20 on a weekday morning. I got their most recommended drink, the Vienna latte. It was good, but I don't think I'd wait that long for it again. I also found their customer service to be lacking, as they have to constantly enforce a patron limit within the shop and send people back outside. What did really impress me was the quality of their pastries, I'd highly recommend trying a croissant if you are going to wait in the line anyway. My friend and I had both heard good things about Mandarin Coffee Stand, so we decided to drop by around 12:30 PM on a Friday. I ordered an iced matcha latte ($7) but thankfully they don't charge for alternative milk so I got oat! I found the matcha here to be a bit watery and bitter for my taste. Not sure if it's just the way it was whisked, but it didn't have the smoothness that I enjoy from other lattes. I do prefer lattes on the sweeter side, so I asked for sweetener to be added which helped the overall flavor a bit. The line seems to pick up as the afternoon goes on, so I would build in some wait time depending on when you're looking to drop by. As far as seating, there are a few bar stools indoors, but those are often used by customers who are waiting for their orders. There are also chairs and tables outside though. Overall, I wouldn't recommend Mandarin for matcha lattes but I'd be open to trying their other drinks and pastries (white miso kouign amann caught my eye while placing my order). read more

Listed as one of LA's best coffee shops for a reason! Highly recommend their specialty coffees. The coffee flavor is so robust and is accented with the added flavors, which are so unique! The toasty latte has Organic Rooibos, which gave it a mix of a tea and coffee vibe. The Vienna latte was just the right amount of sweet! Didn't get a chance to try the pastries, but they looked really beautiful. Outdoor seating only. Long line, and only 4 people allowed in the shop at a time. Baristas work quite hard to produce beautiful drinks constantly! read more
This place is always packed! Tucked in an alley between cute little shops, a good spot to go if you're nearby and craving a special latte. The Spanish latte is a great choice. Wait time can be long since they only allow 4 people inside at once but it moves by pretty quickly. read more

I love Mandarin Coffee, and clearly, so does everyone else--the line is definitely worth it. Every experience here feels personal. The staff never rushes you, and the quality is always top-notch. If you like your chai with a kick, order the iced chai latte--it's perfectly spicy. If you're a matcha lover, they serve ceremonial grade matcha, and I've had both the iced and hot lattes--both are amazing. My daughter swears by their iced vanilla latte, and the touch of shaved vanilla bean on top is such a thoughtful detail. Mandarin is located in the Burlington Arcade, so whether it's sunny or raining, you're covered. Sitting outside feels like you've been transported to London or somewhere charming in Europe. I especially love when they have pop-up pastry vendors, and just recently I picked up some freshly ground espresso from Peru--it smells incredible. Everything is made fresh, and the setup is both stylish and functional. Honestly, it looks like it could be overwhelming to work there, but the staff is always calm, cordial, and spot-on with every order. I always recommend Mandarin to friends and out-of-towners--it's a little gem that feels both elevated and welcoming. read more
We enjoyed our coffee from Mandarin this past Saturday, located in an adorable little plaza in Pasadena. They had a long line outside but it moves pretty quickly. I enjoyed a hot signature "toasty" which felt like it was a coffee & tea hybrid. My girlfriend really liked the Vienna latte which was well balanced and slightly sweet. While we waited, there was a group of carolers taking songs requests which brightened up the morning. Come check it out. read more
The alley is super cute where it's located. Love the vibes. The line is... really long. To be honest, I don't see the hype but since I'm never really in the area I wanted to give it a try. Line did take forever but me and my friend were chatting it up so it was not a problem. The matcha latte we got unsweetened with oat milk and it was pretty good. We then sat at the alley area and had more time chatting. I probably wouldn't come here again due to how long the line is but if you're looking for a cute place to chat and have matcha, I recommend it. read more
Thanks to my friend who suggested us to visit this lovely coffee shop on our girls date! Very unique decoration, chilling and comfortable vibe in deed. This is the BEST Sicily I've ever had, the citrus perfectly balanced the bitterness of the coffee!! Super refreshing at all seasons. Toasty latte is definitely heartwarming and cozy. Very smooth and silky texture. Expect a long line over the weekend. We went on a weekday and the wait was within 10-15 minutes. read more

I absolutely love the matcha here and would come here every day if I could! Located in the beautiful Burlington arcade, the small cafe offers a variety of matcha and coffee. The interior is small and has no seating so the line is out the door and usually a long line but so worth the wait! Staff is always friendly and will help with any accommodations if needed. There are also a small variety of pastries if you're feeling peckish. read more

Another solid coffee spot in Pasadena, seems like artisan coffee places are on the rise but this one is legit. DEFINITELY prepare to wait in line unless you're here at odd times on a weekday. For a Saturday afternoon we waited around 35 minutes before we were able to order our coffee. The shop is TINY with a capacity of about 7 people. With 3 people working there's only room for 4 people inside to order at one time. The coffee shop has a minimalistic kind of vibe. Super cute and they sell coffee beans and merch inside as well. I ordered the Vienna coffee which was so rich but not overwhelming. The cream foam was delicious and it's such a cohesive drink. Would loved a gui hua latte as well but it doesn't come iced. 10/10 would recommend. Maybe not for your morning cup of coffee because of the long waits but definitely good spot for an afternoon pick me up. read more

Wow I have this place bookmarked for a while and finally got to try! Came on Memorial Day and the line was loooong! Waited about 35 minutes since the actual store is pretty small and accommodates 4 people inside at a time. I love the Asian fusion idea and I got hojitcha and the gui hua latte (important: you can ask for your drinks to be less sweet)! I really like the hojitcha - slightly toasty and almost have a chocolatey feel! Note: no matcha related drink as of now. It's located in a super beautiful and vintage building! There are some small tables outside. Staff were super friendly as well! read more

Oh boy, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I searched Apple Maps for matcha and found Mandarin. If you come here you must commit to standing in line for 30 minutes? Geez! I had to deduct one star for that because why must one stand in line? We ordered their seasonal drink, the mandarin mocha and it was tasty, but not "stand in line for 30 minutes" tasty. The inside of the shop only fits four people at a time and I did see people get shooed out of the shop for entering too soon and filling it past the capacity. I'd only come back if I got there at opening time and there wasn't a line, otherwise it's a nope for me. read more
So I have to say the line does move although it is always out the door. The reason being they only have space for four patrons inside so you will have to wait until they come out before you go in. Everyone is so polite and patient here so it feels completely fine with the long line. More time to enjoy the ambience and take pictures in this cute alley. The menu choices are posted by the window and I wish they had a QR code before the line since we're all just waiting around instead of having it right at the entrance. Can't go wrong with their popular Vienna latte and their homemade sweet cream. The coffee is really strong if you like strong coffee as it will definitely give you a jolt. It definitely taste better without a straw so you can really soak in the cream. Pastries definitely run out really fast so if you come anytime after 1pm you're out of luck. Plenty of parking behind and a lot of nice eateries to go around as you're enjoying your coffee or two! read more
I was going to give this place a 2.5 but i couldn't do the half so i gave it a 2. Im not sure what all the hype was about because it was not it. If anyone has had recoffee....they might agree. I tried the vienna latte that was one of the most popular drinks there and it was ehh... maybe it was also personal preference but it was too bitter for my liking. I dont need it super sweet but i definitely didnt enjoy this one. My gf and I got the same drink and mine seemed a bit off as well. I felt very nauseous after drinking it. I didnt get to finish the entire drink either because it was just not it. The cookie was pretty decent though. Nice and thin but not hard. Staff were friendly. The shop is pretty tiny...only allowing a hand full of people inside at a time. I dont think i will be coming back or recommending this place.... read more
Super overrated and not worth the wait. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and we had to wait 40 minutes in line just to order. It's a really small area so they only allow 4 people inside at a time. The workers are really nice, but there is just a lack of hustle or they are simply understaffed. Whenever I go to cafes and coffee shops in KTown, the lines move way quicker & drinks taste so much better. Outdoor seating is limited, but available. I've came here twice because I wanted to give them another chance and here is my ultimate verdict: The matcha latte with the cream top was not good. I ordered it sweetened, but it tasted so bland. The milk to matcha ratio was just off. I tried it with both regular milk and oat milk and both were below mid (the oat milk version was slightly more awful in taste I might add). Parking is convenient though. read more

I went around 9am on a Wednesday and they still had their signature line. I think I waited around 10 minutes before having my order taken. They only let 4 people in at a time, but the three separate people behind me didn't read the signs and crowded into the room. I went as early as I could to secure my choice of pastry. The chickpea curry puff (triangular shaped) is now my new favorite. The curry is delicious and the pastry is super buttery and flaky. The ham and cheese croissant is very tasty especially with the little pickle on top. I also got the seasonal rose hip black tea latte. I was hoping to get a hot latte on that cold morning but it only comes iced. I still enjoyed it and thought it had a pleasant flavor. read more
Was in Pasadena charging my car and yelped to see what coffee places were around. Mandarin Coffee Stand looked promising and was a few steps away so thought I tried. When I saw the line out the door, I thought this place had to be good! The storefront was cute, the interior albeit small was cozy and welcoming. Their display of pastries looked delicious and I enjoyed looking at their items for sale while waiting for my coffee. I asked the barista for a recommendation based on my preferences, sweet and creamy. She said the sweetest and creamiest latte they had was the Vienna, which happens to be their most popular one with homemade sweet cream. Sounds good to me! The coffee looked amazing. Why the three stars? One deduction was that they didn't have half and half, only almond or oat milk aside from their whole milk. Another star deduction was that the Vienna wasn't sweet at all like she said. It's good coffee that my husband would enjoy, but not enough flavor or sweetness. Cute place, but not for me. read more

I got the seasonal mandarin mocha, which was just the right amount of rich / sweet to be enjoyable without feeling too heavy. I first came here before it blew up on instagram & TikTok and I absolutely have loved it. I don't come as often just given its popularity and I try to avoid crowds as best as possible. My favorite items are the matcha latte and their "Toasty" signature latte. Today, I had their lemon loaf for the first time & I absolutely loved it! I love where it's located and overall vibe. I come to mandarin coffee quite frequently only because of one thing, their Vienna coffee! This place is located in the quaint city of Pasadena, tucked between an unassuming shopping center however quickly identified by their long line waiting out the door. I live in Covina, so making the drive to Pasadena and waiting in this line just for their coffee says a lot. I consider myself to be a coffee enthusiast and I haven't tried anything like this before. Vienna latte is the perfect amount of freshly roasted cold coffee with the subtlest amount of sweetness you could ask for. The cream on top of this drink is cloudy and balances the rest of the coffee perfectly. I recommend mixing the bottom half of milk with the coffee without interrupting the cream on top, then drinking it as is NO STRAW! it is very important to get the cream and coffee combo to achieve what Vienna latte is going for. Although I am raving about this godsend of a coffee I am deducting one star because of the wait. It will take about 30-40 minutes if the line reaches the end of the shopping center, it's not an enjoyable experience especially if you're driving from far. Mandarin coffee, is a coffee stand so only four people are allowed in per time and even then it does feel crowded. They are fast in making your drinks though as once you're in the shop you are out and can enjoy your drink at once. Cheers! read more
