Love this place. My boyfriend and I order from here whenever we want sushi or Chinese food. Everything we order is always excellent! We are both rather picky about our sushi too, and it always tastes fresh from here. UPDATE: The last several times we have ordered, the food has honestly been terrible. The quality has plummeted and we are going to look for a new Chinese place. I was in town for work and ordered delivery to my hotel room. The food was generally pretty good. The potstickers could have been hotter, but it was 3rd party delivery service so you know you're taking a chance. The pot sticker sauce was very good. The Mongolian beef was a bit greasy and the meat was very tough. That's why this is 3 stars instead of 4. The wonton strips were crispy and the egg roll was good too. I would order again. I ordered a Spicy Tuna Roll (which wasn't on the menu) and the Hunan Beef dinner which included a cup of egg drop soup and an egg roll. To be honest the egg drop soup was the best thing I ate. Next was the shrimp egg roll; it too was good. It was very hot but had good taste. Then was the Hunan Beef; decent heat from spice, fresh from the Wok but nothing special. It came with fried rice that was very bland. Lastly was the Spicy Tuna Roll; Tuna Roll YES Spicy Tuna Roll NO. Except for one bite that had a glob of wasabi inside. A couple of work buddies and I went in here today for the lunch buffet. I read here on yelp that for the most part it was pretty good. And it was. Here's the skinny: From the outside it looks a little sketchy and inside it is outdated. Plastic water cups, old tables, and paper placemats. But your not here to eat the table so moving on. The food was pretty good. Everything was warm or hot. And to be honest the General Tso's was probably the best I have had. There was no funky pieces of meat like you often find at buffets like this. I got three helpings of it because it was so good. The other meat dishes had vegetables in them which were not overcooked or mushy and overall everything tasted authentic. The lo mein seemed a little dry but I don't eat it often enough to know how it usually is. The buffet has some neat features you don't often find such as shrimp toast and a bunch of different sauces for you to try. There were two different sushi rolls sitting out a California and what seemed to be raw salmon, cream cheese, and avocado. Both were simple rolls but they were good. I mean the buffet is only 8$ so they can't afford to get too fancy with the sushi. Lastly, dessert. Jello which was normal jelloy jello and some other little things. They have an espresso/coffee mouse chocolate mini cake which was pretty descent and satisfied my sweet tooth. The rest of the desserts weren't all that. All in all for 8$ it is a good deal for decent all you can eat Chinese food and the guy working (I am pretty sure he is the owner) kept refilling the food with fresh food and he also was very attentive to our drinks. The place may have looked old inside and out, the scenery was nothing to write home about, but the owner was friendly and professional? Also, the buffet was small enough so that the chef could consistently prepare the same dishes well each day? And they kept on the menu the old-school Americanized-Cantonese dishes that never should have disappeared - MSG included? Well, this is that place - at least for this area of Beltsville and College Park. Every town or suburb in the U.S. had a place like this, until many of them got closed out by the glitzy mega-buffets or take-out clones with the same photos of dishes above the counter in every joint, as if ordained by some committee. Okaaaay, I had to give this place 2 stars. All you loyal customers, don't hate me! Let me explain,.... First and foremost, this place offers lunch special deals on a Sunday, which is pretty awesome in my book lol. The crispy eggplant was just breaded eggplant soaked in oil served with a side of very thick and sweet brown sauce with a side of white rice. Not-good. My second order - The egg-roll was very different, but in a good way, it was soft and a bit doughy. Different. The Honey Sesame Chicken was hmmm.... not all that. Fried rice was simply that, fried white rice with no veggies or anything and the chicken was well sauced, but wasn't chicken-y enough, if that makes sense. Like it was over fried or something. The sushi this time was just not good. Plus, it arrived warm. Which is a MAJOR sushi turn-off for me! No, no. Well, the owner was nice. We ordered appetizers. I got tempura shrimp. My wife got the vegetable dumplings. There were two shrimp - each the size of a finger. The breading was like the dough on onion rings. Not what I expected. The wife's dumplings were mainly cabbage & mushroom - and flavorless. The duck sauce and mustard didn't help. For a main meal, wife got the vegetable Tempe soup (also flavorless) and I got moushi pork. The pork was a little better, but was mostly pork/cabbage. It needed to be doused with plumb sauce. Back in town for a visit after years away, we found this restaurant on Yelp and the reviews indicated it was well above average. When we arrived, it very much reminded me of a Chinese cafe that my wife and I used to frequent as a new couple, so you know I wanted this to be good! Unfortunately, the food was prepared amateurishly and with a heavy-hand, with salt (or salty sauce) as too prominent a flavor, and no real blend of ingredients providing taste. It was so sub-par, we don't know how this restaurant has the 4-star rating it does, unless it's because the majority of it's other customers don't know any better. My wife said it tasted like the chef cooked by watching YouTube recipe videos in the back kitchen (I had to laugh). To top it off, it was a Saturday night and there was one poor older gentleman handling greeting, seating, serving, busing, takeout, and payments. After we finished, we had to wait 15 minutes for him to get through a line six takeout customers long. If I'd had cash, I would have just dropped the nearest round number of bills above our estimated tab on the table just to escape, but I didn't and he eventually was able to make it over to us. read more

Decent independent Chinese restaurants are extremely hard to find in this part of the city. To be fair, I wanted to eat here twice before writing a review, and so I did. The first time was late in the buffet - 1:30PM after the buffet had been pretty well picked over, and clearly wasn't being replenished again for the 4 remaining lunch customers. (No one else showed up after I sat down). The second time was right out of the gate at opening (11:00AM) and I was the *first* customer. Unfortunately it didn't make much of a difference. Here are some observations: The General Tso's Chicken is fried well, but the sauce is too thick = diabetes bomb. Questionable chicken quality, too - I spat out chicken cartilage twice. The Hot and Sour Soup is thickish and unappealing. The texture of the chicken breast in the Chicken w/Black Bean Sauce is mostly chewy-spongy. It tasted like counterfeit chicken if there's such a thing. Bad! The Lo Mein is oddly dark / too much soy-sauce. Dark Lo Mein - no thanks. Fried Rice is standard fare, but slightly al dente which is probably unintentional. The Head-on, Shell-on Salt & Pepper Shrimp are smallish and a pain in the butt to peel. By the time you de-head them, peel them, and de-vein them, you'll pretty much decide it's not worth spending any more time in this depressing space than you have to for each miserable little shrimp you've complete stripped of any flavor. (Looks good in pictures, though!) I guess you could eat them whole? The best things on the lunch buffet are the almost too-oily housemade spring rolls (protein varies), the katsu-style fish fillet, and the katsu-style chicken thigh skewers. Sorry to say, but you're way better off going to Panda Express - the baseline for acceptable American Chinese food. read more

I'm a recent transplant from FL. Moved here for UMD and Chinese food is my favorite whenever I don't cook. I saw this place had good ratings so thought I would try it. What others have been saying in their reviews is true, the portions are very large. I have been twice and it's consistent and have looked at others foods as well to make sure. The kitchen doors were open both times I went so I got to see if it was clean and the kitchen was very clean. 5 stars for value, cleanliness and customer service I live in DC but was visiting friends in Beltsville and went to the Mandarin based on Yelp recommendations. I was very pleasantly surprised. Of all the Chinese American restaurants in the District and Wheaton, MD (the ones I am most likely to frequent) I like the Mandarin best because it is CLEAN. Places at Wheaton might be more authentic but many are unhygienic and let's not even talk about the District. We had the peppery and salt squid and pork fried rice and they were excellent - not greasy, not salty and no MSG. Also had the meat dumplings - a little doughy but not greasy; the pu pu platter for 2 could easily feed 4; and the wonton soup had a good broth that was not greasy or highly salted. The only bummer was the broccoli in garlic sauce which despite the name had no hint of garlic. However I'm giving a full 5 stars because any deficiencies were compensated by the very friendly reception and fast service. Definitely will start visiting my Beltsville friends more often because of the Mandarin. read more

I don't know why she said this or if this is true but then she told me the Sweet & Sour or General Tso's shrimp was better.... So I got General Tso's shrimp and it was decent. The breading wasn't the best but the sauce and shrimp was okay. When I heated it up again the next day the sauce turned to jello after being in the fridge which was pretty unappetizing. First time customer - did 2 Sushi Deluxe and a Miso soup carryout -Wow! The food was priced well, delicious and enough to satisfy both of our appetites for dinner. Been trying various sushi restaurants in the area but this was the best overall by far. EZ pickup and ready on time. I've never eaten AT the restaurant and can only review their delivery. That being said, every meal I've ever gotten delivered has been fantastic! Always still very hot, not like it's been sitting around waiting to be delivered. They have great food and great prices especially for the quality you're getting. The shrimp egg foo young, shrimp fried rice, chicken chow mein, and general tso's are all 10/10. Their crab rangoons are good but very filled. Egg rolls, spring rolls and dumplings are fairly standard, nothing amazing but very tasty. I recommend them constantly as they are one of the only Chinese food locations in our area that has consistently great food and service. read more

I decided to check this place out after a couple hours on the road to satisfy my craving for some sushi. The reviews here seemed to be informative and I had a tad bit more than average expectations that this would be a good dining spot just minutes from our hotel. So, I plugged the address in my GPS and we were off... We arrived and all looked OK....from the outside. It's in a little strip mall, which I read about and I have no problems with that. However, when we walked in the door, the first thing I noticed was the smell! What was that smell? How did it smell? Think rotting fish. Next, I noticed the extremely dirty and sticky floor. After that, the stack of paper mess on the table at the entrance was very unwelcoming. I feel as though if a restaurant owner doesn't pay attention to these types of small details, how can I trust them to prepare my food with any type of concern for my safety (cleanliness, quality). I peeked around the corner and only saw 2 people eating here on a Saturday evening. That was the last red flag for me.
