Enjoyed the food. I have been coming to this restaurant for over 40 years, but the atmosphere was horrible tonight and the new owners did nothing to help. Food great, guests behind had two children about two and three years old who were screeching at the top of their lungs all night. Worse yet they were standing in their high-chairs and we were scared they would fall. The mom was disengaged. Thankfully, Gramma tried her best to entertain the exhausted children, but it didn't help. We told the server and he wasn't sure how to assist. The back door was opened to help entertain the children, but it caused the restaurant to become quite cold. On our way out, the father of the children called me a lesbian and I ttold the mother not to bring the children in a restaurant until they are adults! I then complained to one of the owners and she said "what do you want me to do, cover the bill? I said yes that would help because our evening was ruined and she said OK". I proceeded back to ensure the server was properly tipped and on my way out another owner came out and said "you aren't going to stick me with the bill are you?" I responded I was told it was waived and she said "NO I will give you 20% off". This occurred after she spoke to the family "in Italian" to get their feedback. My recommendation don't go to the restaurant if you are a female with short hair and aren't Italian and don't speak Italian. CUSTOMER UPDATE: I appreciate the owners reply, but she made it very clear they don't get involved with customer disputes even though I mentioned we were upset that we were called lesbians in front of the entire restaurant and that it was humiliating and hurtful. Worse yet, she told me I was wrong to answer a customers question about why we were upset in the bar area on our way out! She told me I was wrong because they had a three year old child! Maybe she should have told the table in the restaurant they were wrong to call us lesbians in front of their 2 and 3 year old children!. read more

My husband and I stopped in for a quick pizza and started talking to the waiter, Michael, and he told us about the new chefs and the new menu they were developing. We ended up ordering salmon Vesuvio and grilled salmon. It was fantastic! Flavorful and cooked to perfection! Many of the new items he described sound great. Requested delivery. Service was fast, driver brought plates which was nice. Food was hot. Pizza was ok. Ingredients were flavorful and fresh, but the sauce.... I don't get it. I know everyone has their own preferences but I swear the last time I ordered from here the sauce was good enough that I quit ordering from my go to for the last 20 yrs. Ordered via GrubHub. The pizza was very tasty. Dropped one star for two reasons. The first issue was delivery took well over an hour, delivery guy asked me if I gave him a tip and he put the cold soda in the thermal bag with the pizza. So, I got a soda that was warmer than it should have been and, of course, a cold soda with the pizza cools it down. Not very smart. He asked if I gave him a tip, because "GrubHub" isn't working right. I asked, "Isn't working right?" And he said, "Oh no, not like that. The printer doesn't work right." The receipt he handed me was printed fine and listed the tip. All in all, a driver should not be questioning a tip. They should be happy to receive one. The semi-cold soda would have made me question giving the tip I did give. Another thing that does bug me a bit is the menu I was given had discounts for all pizzas and yet no coupons listed on GrubHub. Why not? It makes sense to not penalize someone for using their service. Adding coupons to GrubHub adds to their appeal. They are missing out on that added appeal and customers are losing out on cash. read more

Haven't been here in a few years but I will return since my food and service was very good. Heather was our server tonight and didn't have any problems. I didn't read the yelp reviews until after the meal- sorry they had a bad experience but the four of us said we really enjoyed our meals and will come again. OK, so in the past we have had service ranging from good to excellent but our last visit was jaw dropping weird... We get there about 5:30-6 on Sunday 7/18/16 a lady at the cash register tells us the kitchen is closing, we questioned that she says " I'll go check" she disappears around the hall into the kitchen, A man comes out shorter guy, maybe Hispanic, seats us pours water. We say the lady told us the kitchen is closing. He looks at us (rightfully so) like we got three heads, says " no we're open till 10 " OK, we just think someplace along the line, miscommunication. A party of maybe 10 then seats in our sight. The same lady comes out of the kitchen and says the kitchen is closing in an hour... WHAT !? We got up and left , I told the bartender they need to get their act together and we told another couple going in the kitchen was closing. I never been insulted at a restaurant like that before, Why would you make a point of telling someone the kitchen is closing, then make a point of saying it's closing IN AN HOUR, What I look like I don't know how to read and someone has to draw pictures of the menu for me? So glad to have fallen upon this place by a friend with a Restaurant.com certificate that hadn't seen the copier in quite awhile. I don't recall ever being in this part of Elmhurst. Started off with a margarita pizza appetizer. Just amazing with lots of fresh tomato and basil. The side salad was anything but an aside. With a mix of greens and lots of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, parmesan, croutons and a tasty house Italian - we were quickly stuffed to the brim. Forced ourselves to taste our entrees - eggplant parmesan for me; meat ravioli for my friend. Everything tasted so obviously homemade, which is a nice change from the canned taste of the Italian chains. While a fresh update to the location wouldn't be a bad idea, there's really nothing but overall accolades for this place. read more

I really liked this place. We just moved and we were looking for a new Italian restaurant. The wine list is pretty good. We had the pan pizza and it was decent. Not burnt, tasty tomato sauce and crispy crust. For an Italian restaurant the prices were very reasonable. The atmosphere was quite but we did come later at night and on a holiday weekend. But who wants to be around lots of noise when your in a nice setting and can actually hear each other talk. read more

Love the food (from the restaurant menu). Love the pizza. Love the fact that they deliver their entire menu - so, if you want to have some chicken marsala, or grilled salmon, delivered to your home - they'll do that. Here's the problem: almost always, when we order anything other than pizza, there's a problem with the order. (Usually an accessory item.) Sometimes, they'll forget the bread. Irritating, but not tragic. Sometimes, they forget to send one of the side salads - a few times, I've called, and they've either offered to credit my account, OR send someone out to deliver the salad. (No consistency there, but OK.) What I dislike the most, though, is the problem they seem to have with GrubHub: OK - for the longest time, Melina's website didn't have their entire menu listed - in fact, they STILL don't have a link to their pizza selections. (If they do, I don't know where it is on their site.) When I discovered that their entire menu (pizza and general restaurant) was listed on GrubHub, I was overjoyed. (By they way, this little tidbit - their entire menu being available on GrubHub - is mentioned NO WHERE on their website. I found it by chance.) This time, the problem was with description of the food we ordered: entree description said that it would come with a side of pasta, but we were sent orders of french fries instead. When I called to ask, they told me that their entrees have a choice of pasta or potato, and this is a problem they're having with GrubHub. I explained that this is NOT the way it was described on their menu (said a side of pasta - nothing about potatoes) they left me on hold - either they forgot about me, or was hoping that I'd hang up. In the end, I hung up and we had ate fries with our entrees instead of the pasta. This isn't the first time this happened, either. I decided to order entrees, and pick them up on my way home from work. (Yes, I ordered via GrubHub.) I was waiting for my order to be packaged, and I noticed (on the receipt) that we were being given french fries. I asked the person at the counter about this, and she went back into the kitchen to (presumably) have the order corrected. I assume that that the problem lies with Melina's choice of...well...choices. GrubHub probably only allows a certain amount of variable selections in a customer's order, and they would rather put those choices toward a selection of soup or salad, and not potato/pasta. That's fine - BUT THEN DON'T LIST IN THE DESCRIPTION THAT A SIDE OF PASTA WILL BE SENT, AND SEND HUGE ORDERS OF FRENCH FRIES INSTEAD! Having said all that, I'll still order from Melina's for pizza and yes, their general menu. I'll just have to make sure I write in every 'special instructions' slot available to NOT send me fries, but yes, please send the pasta as listed on the menu. read more

Tried to go there tonite for dinner. Monday is 1/2 price thin crust only, cheese....only to be told they had no servers. We could sit in the bar area, but it was extremely loud. We walked out. This was the last straw, will never go back. New owners instituted a new rule, where on Monday's if you order the 1/2 price pizza they no longer provide bread. Also, an older lady not sure if she is the owner, when she would wait on you, she would hover. There is being attentive and this was overboard. Every time we go in it seems like there are new employees, can't seem to keep employees, I would say that speaks volumes as to the new mgmt. read more

Take out order 18 inch cheese they told me 40 min. I thought 40 min for a thin crust odd but said maybe there busy. got there in 35 min picked up pizza got home and the pizza was ice cold. Called back and told them about the cold pizza and they were very rude did not seem to care did not offer another one or a discount. We were told we would need to wait 5 to 10 minutes for a table. We waited about 30 to 40 minutes. We sat in the bar waiting and never received service from the Bartender. We were ignored. Another couple waiting had preordered their food and that should have been a clue they did not have enough staff. The couple who preordered waited for a half hour as well. They had to stand in the hallway. Upon getting a table we waited an additional 15 minutes for soup/salad after ordering. When then ready to eat I look at my fork and it was dirty. It took another few minutes to receive a clean one from staff. The room was drafty because the back door was being opened repeatedly. I made a complaint to the waiter and he didn't know how to resolve the problem. I wore my coat throughout dinner. The atmosphere was very noisy and unenjoyable. The prices were on the high end so I tried to speak to the management about our experience. The management was rude. The management was uncooperative. It was a horrible experience. In a nutshell, dirty utensils, long waits, and rude management. I would have received better service at McDonald's. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice meal out. read more

Very disapointed and let down, we have been going here for a while and have wonderful food we always dine in. The owners are very friendly and nice. I had my daughters birthday party last week and decided to have them cater considering how good they are. I was let down. I made a big order 3 weeks ago and paid full in cash the day of, the food the day of the party shows up almost 45mins late, they blammed it on they forgot about my order. How can you forget about a order for 125 people? So the food shows up finally and I arranged to have burners so all my food can stay hot, the delivery guy had no idea whats going on and he didnt have them, so great now i have trays of food and its going to get cold and i have to feed 125 people. I called and a manager told me he will send his delivery guy to a Ace Hardware to buy me some, is this a joke? This poor delivery guy, he has to suffer because management cant do there job. Then as we set the food up ( with no burners) i have 5lbs of beef but NO bread, they didnt send that either. So now Im very upset, we eat here all the time and I was treated very poorly by managment. Finally Sal who is another Manager who knows what he is doing calls back and appoligizes, which was appreciated but needless to say I will never get anything catered from them again. They need new morning or day staff if they want to keep happy customers. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE! Made reservations for Christmas Eve at 6:30pm which apparently they close at 7:00pm but failed to communicate! They had four people clearing the table before we were even finished our meal. They turned off the music and lights. Rudest service I have experienced by far! They did not even offer coffee or dessert and when I asked for a cappuccino the machine was conveniently broken. I asked to speak to the manager and he literally ran from the kitchen to the bar to avoid me. I overheard the staff complaining that they had to stay an extra hour for us because I made a reservation at 6:30! How about I'm sorry ma'am we close at seven and the last reservation is at 5:30pm. Food is good however their service is not. I have been going there for 11 years and ever since ownership has changed the way they treat their customers has been awful. They have screwed up their deliveries more than a few times and their attitude is simply not very apologetic. Also i forgot one coupon for $5 off an appetizer after having ordered from them more than 50 times and their manager wouldn't make one exception and honor it. ...they can see in their computer system how much business I have given them. Nancy's has great pizza and should stick to that. The dinners there are barely average and the prices are ridiculous. When I saw the portion of Chicken Parm for what they charged me I got pissed. I don't know what the new ownership think they are but they are wrong if they think they are a top Italian Restaurant. They are absolutely no Roberto's, Angelo's, or even Momma Maria's but they think they can charge more for less. When I contested the bill the manager refused to take it off, offering me dessert or a gift certificate. I WASN'T born yesterday. This place needs to be out of business. I gotta tell ya, since the new ownership took over, this restaurant has completely gone downhill. After a series of messed up orders and bad service, the last straw was July 15th when I had a catering order to be picked up at 12:45 and when we got there it was not the correct order and they wanted us to wait 25 minutes and only giving us 10% off and then not deliver it unless we pay full price. Are you kidding? I have spent thousands of dollars over the years catering from Melina's and this will be the last time. The terrible service and constant mistakes are overwhelming including their unwillingness to admit their mistakes. The person I talked to said it was because there were two orders with the same name. I'm sorry, what? What does that even have to do with anything when you have my name and phone number and order submitted? Then both orders should've been made. My work usuallly orders catering from here. The sausage and peppers are out of this world. My coworkers loved it and will continue to order. We asked for it to be delivered at 11:30 and it was right on time. The driver was very friendly and helpful in setting up the pans. The food was never deliver and when I call them they told me that they needed to invetigate to give them 1 week. We order from here through work at least twice a month and have always had great service. The people answering the phones are always patient and very polite, the delivery drivers never slide our pizza and always have a smile, and the food is always really hot and fresh! The pizza is great, the salads are generous and outstanding, the seafood is always fresh and never fishy! We love this place! read more

Went for dinner and drinks on Friday night and had a great experience. Started in the bar with a few drinks and an appetizer. The bartender was friendly and attentive. Later moved into the dining room for dinner. Ordered another appetizer and a few glasses of wine. I was really surprised by the wine list. While the soup and salad were slightly average the entrees more than made up for it. The veal was fantastic and the pork osso bucco was the best. Pork fell right off the bone and the sauce on the risotto was very flavorful. Service was adequate and everyone was very friendly. Overall I was very satisfied with the experience and would definitively go back. read more
